HP 5540: 5540 HP printer don't wake up automatically

My printer HP Envy 5540 will automatically wake up when I give a print job. I have to manually press the touch screen on the printer to wake him each time after his idle for several hours.

I know the auto disable the feature after 2 hours, but according to the manual it must wake up if the printer is connected to a network. I have my printer connected to the wifi n/w all the time but I still have to intervene manually everytime when the printer has been idle for several hours. It's really frustrating.

I hope someone can help solve my problem.

Number of brand and model of the router?

These settings are to set up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, wireless devices stay better connected and makes your router secure and hack proof.

While the DHCP is convenient, devices like printers must always be assigned an IP (fixed) manually to avoid conflicts on your wireless network.

  1. Set a static in the printer IP address (click here) outside the range of the DHCP of the router (check your manual). It is for Linksys routers, but can be used for all routers. Check your DHCP range and change this first if necessary. More Help Wireless Printing is here (Windows solution 4, static IP).
  2. Or check in the printer that ' Auto Off/sleep/power saving mode ' is disabled the System Mode Time Out is set to zero (0) Use the built-in webserver (EWS) by visiting the printer address IP address in the address bar of your browser, click on settings tab/Auto Off. Or use the printer, printer Home Page (EWS) Wizard. Also check the properties of your printers.
  3. If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, disable the IPv6 option in the printer.
  4. If necessary and you have assigned a static IP address, try using auxiliary for the preferred DNS Server 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as DNS server.
  5. Wireless printers work on the band Wireless 2.4 Ghz not the band 5.0 Ghz.
  6. Make sure the printer is on the latest firmware by checking with the HP support site.
  7. Check all devices wireless in your home for interference. Check microwave, babyphones, phones, wireless and wireless alarm systems are a big culprit.  Any of these will knock at your printer wireless intermittently.
  8. Make sure that your printer and router are at least 5 feet independently of each other.

In the router: (refer to the manual of your router for more information)

  1. Use a fixed wireless channel as the 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
  2. Set the router to 20 Mhz only or 145Mbps router function.
  3. Always use WPA2-AES encryption (personal), but you can try the "mixed" mode
  4. Disable the WPS and never use it and disable the UPnP for the security of routers. No one can hijack your system now and help with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, research on the web).
  5. If you have a router dual band (2.4 Ghz and 5.0 Ghz bands), make sure the SSID is NOT identical, they must be different for all the bands, even for networks without comments.
  6. SSID broadcast should be enabled.
  7. Save all the settings. Food at the same time, wait 2 minutes.  Power on router wait 2 minutes.
  8. Marketing the printer and check that it reconnects to the router.

Windows 7/8/8.1 is discovered the system on or off?

  1. Control Panel/Network and Internet/network and sharing Center / advanced sharing settings.
  2. Under home or work (current profile) / network discovery.
  3. Select "Turn on network discovery" and save the changes.

Now the last thing to do once everything above has been tried and you still have the same problem, completely uninstall and delete the printer and its software.

Use http://www.iobit.com/en/advanceduninstaller.php .  Use of the powerful scanner at the end to remove all registry entries.

Now go back and reinstall the drivers and full software on the HP website.

Last resort effort - if your printer has an Ethernet connection, suggest you to get some adapters line and convert your Ethernet wiring for your printer.

  • P1606dn don't wake-up car for new print job

I have my printer is on my home network.  I use Mac computers.  I can print to the printer on the network of my three laptops more wireless, however, if the printer goes into sleep mode and I have send a new print job the printer don't wake auto.  To print, I have to manually turn on the printer, then it prints.  What is the solution to wake up off car for a new print job.  My old Brother printer would do that and it's maddening to have to go up the steps the Office to turn on the printer whenever I want to print.

    Hello

The auto power off feature completely disable the device until a print job come back on, however, this requires a direct USB connection.

For the network connection, you must disable the auto power off feature, the printer will always enter a power saving mode, but should be up and running once a being sent to throguh the network print job.

Follow the steps below to disable the automatic mode:

  • HP Envy 5540: Printer Hp Envy 5540 randomly printed the Network Configuration Page

    Hello!

I bought this printer about a month ago. Set up the connection to the printer wireless with my wifi, and my understanding is that the printer is protected like my wifi and use the same password in order to print something. I kept my printer connected and 'standby mode' since I put in place. The night last at about 23:00 when I was in bed, the printer turned on randomly and printed a "wireless network configuration page" that has had a lot of information, including the IP address and listing my name wifi as well as the names of my neighbors wifi in the surrounding apartments.

I'm trying to understand why this printed, because I certainly did not do. Anyone have access to my wifi, or has someone may simply try to print something and selected my printer as it should appear on the "list available connections on the computer of anyone, given that the printer is turned on? How could they print this sheet of network configuration if my printer is password protected?

I'm mostly concerned about someone who has access to my internet if they could print this page somehow, but maybe it happened just when they tried to connect to it, and it did not work while trying to fix MY printer?

I would appreciate any idea on the issue.

    Thank you!

    Hi @printerprob5540,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I saw your post on how your HP Envy 5540 randomly print a Network Configuration Page. I'm happy to help with this problem!

I find it very strange considering the only way to print the Network Configuration Page, AFAIK, is with the following steps:

    • Make sure that there are size A4 or US Letter, unused, plain paper in the feeder.
    • On the printer Panel, drag the screen to the left and then press Setup.
    • Touch tools.
    • Drag upward on the screen and then tap Network Configuration report.
    • A Network Configuration Page prints up to three pages of information.

My HP printer will not wake up to print from my computer. If I restart the printer, I can print from my laptop. I can get one or two impressions, but if I wait a while he won't wake the printer to print. The printer is connected to my wifi.

Can I print using my hp ePrint. I can send by e-mail to the e-mail address and print at any time I want something. The printer always wakes up using this method. I need to be able to print from my laptop, so I can easily print several copies.

I already took the printer from the list of printers on my mac and reloaded it back on. Has nothing.

I have reset the factory settings on the printer and it rehooked up my wifi. That no longer works.

Well wish you asked first.   But in almost every case like yours (less than ten), I told the person to try a new router.   Anyway... so far, a new router has worked, but not from the same manufacturer.

I hate personally... uh... don't like the Linksys routers.  Too many problems.   I got lucky with Netgear and now TP Link.  DLink routers seem to have problem also.   ASUS seems to be good.  You don't need to spend a fortune, or about $ 100 million will work fine.

I had an HP printer 5514 for 3.5 years attached to a Netgear WNDR3400v2, static IP and my edits above and never lost the wifi.   The router started failure and restart by itself, so I have now a TP Link Archer C7 where I just Redid the settings manually, pulled up and connected everything correctly and remains connected.   The printer could not and now I have a Brother MFC - J870dw that I love more than any HP and it connects very well and remains connected.

In my experience, your mileage may vary.

    Hello

    1. don't you make changes to the computer until the problem occurred?

I suggest you to check the parameters of the power management of the device on the network adapter.

To correct the settings please follow these steps.

    (a) click Start, type device in the box start the search and then click on Device Manager in the programs list.

    (b) in the user account control dialog box, click continue.

    (c) in Device Manager, expand network adapters.

    (d) right click on the network driver and then click Properties.

    (e) click the power management tab.

    (f) click to uncheck the checkbox allow the computer to turn off this device to save power , and then click OK. If the option is checked, then uncheck the option and apply the settings.

Once you have performed the steps, restart the computer so that the changes take effect, and then check the result.

  • T500 wakes up automatically mode standby when on feeding

Just got a new T500 and installed Windows Vista Business x 64 and all updates from Lenovo and MS. everything works fine except one small thing:

When I put the computer in standby mode och put into hibernation, he stayed there for a few minutes and then he wakes up automatically again. Then back to mode standby/Hibernation again. Then he continues in a loop this way.

I noticed this happends only on the current.

Nothing about it in the Windows event log. I've changed almost every setting in the BIOS but without success...

    Any idea?

  • HP OfficeJet 3830: 3830 HP wireless printer is offline in "sleep mode" and don't wake up to print

I've just set up a HP OfficeJet 3830 as a printer connected to my network wireless domestic (Airport Extreme Base Station router 802.11ac wireless). I was able to print-out of my MacBook, but when the printer goes into sleep mode, it appears offline and unresponsive to print. I have to restart the printer for her to appear online and respond. The printer will be in the basement, so it would be very inconvenient down to reboot just to print it. Kind of defeated the purpose of a wireless printer. I tried to disable the sleep mode to see if it works, but sleep mode settings cannot be disabled in the printer preferences. I already spent 3 hours to solve this problem.

I contacted HP technical support to solve the problem. The person told me restore default settings and then unplug the power to the printer and the router wireless for 30 seconds. After restarting the router, then the printer, we have connected the printer to the network with a static IP address. Who did the trick. Even if the printer is in "sleep" for several hours, it has not disappeared in offline mode, as it is done before. Problem solved for now. Hope this helps others.

    Hello

Try to disable the automatic stop of the printer function:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c02860533

If the options do not exist as described, plug in a USB key and look for options in the printer queue added USB as you can miss some options while using a print server to share the printer (as the basis of Apple).

If the same check persist for the difference while using a direct USB connection connected to the Mac or by the printer connected to the Base of Apple Wireless by method according to three within the OS X 10.9 section below and check for the difference:

  • Black screen on Macbook - don't wake after sleep

I have a model mid-2009 13 "Macbook Pro which is been updated for the last OS. For the last two weeks, I had problems make him wake up once he starts in mode 'sleep'. It seems not important whether she goes to sleep because of the closure of the lid or inactivity, and it seems not important to know if she was in mode 'sleep' for a few hours or just enter the mode 'sleep'. I try to wake up by pressing a button, and the screen remains black. I finally have to press and hold the power button until I hear it powering down and then press the power button to turn it back on. Can I get the nice message that said "you shut down your computer because of a problem" when it loads up.

I know that the device is on when the screen is black because it makes the noise to stop when I am forced to stop it manually. And whenever he refuses to wake up from the black screen, there a lot of battery when it finally loads up after that I turned it off. If he pulled when he falls asleep, plug the charger when it does not react with the black screen does nothing no more. And this isn't a case of the lighting of the screen being turned all the way down - I've tried too, just to be sure.

I'd appreciate really any suggestion or help, because I have no idea what to do. He just started to happen suddenly, and since he started it happens almost every time my computer will sleep, what is super frustrating. I don't have not download anything new or modifications to the right until it all started, and it started before I've updated to El Capitan and continued since then, so I really don't know what the deal is...

  • A30 - 203 hibernating then don't "wake up!"

Have owned my A30-203 for 18 months without problem - last night I close the lid and left in hibernation as I often do. Came back about two hours later - lifted the lid - nothing. Usually, he wakes up and expects that a mouse click continue. Don't respond to ctrl-alt-del or all the essential features. Start button / stop did nothing no more. Had to disconnect the battery and the sector. Restored power and power key - machine referred to the point after hibernation! Machine also was locked - ignoring all the keystrokes at the keyboard and mouse clicks. Tried to delete the file "hiberfil.dat" of the file system in case it was corrupted - did not work. Problem remains. Have turned off the Hibernate function now. Machine has been locked up since. Have also noticed that the cooling fans seem to stay longer (and stronger) than before. Laptop is still covered by the warranty of Dixons Coverplan - but don't know if the issues I've already mentioned. Help!

    Hi adixon

I put t know how many times you use the hibernation mode, but my experience is that if you use the hibernation mode constantly, it can happen that the laptop is a little confused. I use the hibernation mode in my office after work, but from time to time, it is advisable to do a reboot or turn off the laptop.

I'm sure that there are no any kind of hardware malfunction. I don't force you to do that, but I also know this reinstallation of the operating system with recovery CD may solve your problem. Before take you to the service partner, try reinstalling the laptop only.
