HP media center m470n cannot start the recovery. F10 no work. HP pc system recovery isn't in the menus.

This m470n was seriously infected by malicious software.  After disinfection with MSE and ClamWin, works very well, but I would like to do a system recovery.  The fact recovery partition exists.  But the F10 at startup does not receive me at the recovery, nor is he a "HP PC System Recovery" entry in the tree of programs on the Start Menu.  (I tried another function key I can get to the BIOS OK menu.)  Is there another way to start Recovery?  What is the name and the path of the exe that runs 'HP PC System Recovery?'  Thank you for any advice you can give on this old machine, but still very useful!

Thanks for another excellent suggestion!  Use the Partition Wizard bootable CD, I see two partitions.

One is named HP_RECOVERY, FAT, about 6 GB, and it is the active partition.

The other partition is in anonymous form, NTFS, about 145GB.

I wasn't expecting to see the active recovery partition.  I guess that explains why the Windows computer management disk management Panel did not have the option Mark as active, because it was already active.

The c:\windows\sminst directory is missing, probably because the damage malware cleaning.

CherylG, you have been very helpful!  I don't want to take your attention to other people's questions, and the option of replacement drives $27 is a simple solution, so unless you're really intrigued by this weird problem, we can close.  Thanks again!

    I hope this helps.

  • get this pop up message "a necessary component of the Windows Media Center has not started properly. Restart Windows Media Center.

    Original title: Windows Media Center

Whenever I try to add videos (or whatever it is) on my media center it will not add and I get this pop up message "a necessary component of the Windows Media Center has not started properly. Restart Windows Media Center.

And I restart it, but it still gives me the same thing whenever I'll add things. I also have the Extender for my xbox 360 and video flies never show there either. A few moments ago, I got this working with my xbox and everyhting showed, now it gives me fits. Can someone please help

    Try this for me:

    Task Scheduler (Local)-> library of Task Scheduler-> Microsoft-> Windows-> Media Center-> MediaCenterRecoveryTask

If this does not work, try this:

    1. open regedit by clicking on the start menu and type "regedit" in the search box and clicking on the link of the regedit program that opens.

    2. go in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

    3. click on the file --> export and save a copy of this portion of the registry where you can find later if you need IT.

4 Note the values in the column of data to "ProgramFilesDir" and "ProgramFilesDir (x 86(). (If you have only one of those that, don't worry. I think that only users of Windows 64-bit will have both, but I don't know.)

    5. If you have a standard installation of Windows, the right for "ProgramFilesDir" column should read "C:\Program Files" and the right column for "ProgramFilesDir (x 86) ' should read"C:\Program Files (x 86)"." If they are not, try changing them to these values. To do this right click on the name in the left column and selecting Edit. Copy the 'correct' value of this message in the data value field in the box that opens. Click OK , and then do the same for the other (if you have two).

    6. RESTART. It will not work until you restart your computer.

    7. Open Windows Media Center and see if the problem is resolved.

    Hello

Do you mean that the external CD/DVD drive for PC card cannot be recognized in Windows XP?
Hmm I think I have an idea.
I think you should go to the Device Manager and remove the * Texas Instruments PCI controller card bus * and * Toshiba ToPIC100 CardBus controller *.
    Reboot the laptop.

After restarting, the operating system must install new hardware (two controllers carbs) and after this installation, you can try to connect the external PC card, CD/DVD drives again!

    Good luck

  • Cannot start the DSC Shared Memory

I'm under LabView 7.0 (I know its an older configuration), with DSC and Lookout CPB to make periodic communications to an Omron plc. I needed to update the nor-DAQ because the PCI-6220 card needs the driver. I upgraded to NOR-DAQ 7.5 and now a get the cannot start the Service Manager memory shared DSC. I uninstalled the DSC and reinstalled without change. I found in discussion forums that I need nidscsm.exe in the windows\system32 folder, but is not there. I am running Windows XP.

I have 2 configurations like that. 1 PC always connects to the controller even if the error appears, another PC connects any, lights flash but error timeout then comms.

    Thank you!

Sorry, maybe I had my names wrong. He was DAQ - Mx that I've upgraded to v.8.1 and that's where it messes up the communications of the OPC. I knew that if I install the DAQ - Mx without option checked OPC she always clears the NIDSCSM.COM as a service, but I can still use serial OPC communication. Strange...

    Hi jdmanel,

NOTE: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. 1 know if your AV (anti-virus) program is supposed to disable your Windows Firewall. Some do it.

    2. you do not do so in respect of the services? You do it in this way? ...............

Start > Search box, type ser > press the Enter key > scroll down to Windows Firewall...

under status, it lies and must say... Has begun

under Type of status, it must be said... Automatic

If it does not say that, right click on Windows Firewall > properties...

These error messages are a pain in the neck to extract useful information.

I suggest that you do a search online 'pilot audio free downloads' and find another audio program for your PC.

If you find something that works for your satisfaction - remove your original pain in neck audio software and make sure you make your audio program newly found the 'default' device.

Realtek and NVIDIA, for example get stuff good free audio driver.

If the new program does not work - it would be a good indication that you have hardware on your PC, drive problems and no amount of play more with to try to correct the audio software will help. Period
