HP Pavilion p6 - 2220t: Thunderbolt just zapped my hard wired network adapter

Product name: HP Pavilion p6 - 2220t Windows 7 64 bit

Product number: B3F79AV #ABA

Motherboard:

  • Manufacturer: Foxconn
  • Name manufacturer: H-Cupertino3-H61-uA TX
  • Name of HP: Cupertino3

Integrated LAN:

  • Technology: CG-RTL8171EH-gigabit Ethernet controller
  • Data transfer speed: up to 10/100/1000 Mb / s
  • Standards for the transmission: 1000-Base-T Ethernet

In my opinion, than a bolt of lightning just zapped my hard wired network adapter.  Everything else is fine, including the wireless network adapter.  But my computer doesn't even know he has a LAN adapter.

It does not appear in the network and sharing Center > change adapter settings.  Only the connection wireless network card is listed.

It does not appear in Control Panel > Device Manager > network adapters.  Yet once that the wireless adapter is listed.

My AT & T Modem is fine and the wireless router that I plugged it is fine.  The lightning did not affect them.

The Web page of the modem displays my pc as part of home network devices but shows its status of 'off '.  I think that if I click on scan for devices, it would pass in the list because there seems to be no current communication between the modem and the card ethernet at the moment.

I am however connected to the modem via my wireless router and from there, connection to internet is normal.  So, I don't think it's a problem of modem.  This same modem provides TV service and phone as well.

I think that for some reason any that the wired adapter got zap and disappeared.  And since there is no way the computer to find it, I do not think I can load drivers or something like that.  Since this is a 'built-in LAN' I think too which may mean it is part of the motherboard and I can't just insert another card.  I don't know how in any case.

(1) it sounds like my adapter was killed?  Or y at - it another way to diagnose his health when the computer doesn't even know it's there. (Usual tools find no problem because they only check the wireless connection, because any other adapters is located.)

(2) can I solve this problem by getting a USB Ethernet adapter, rather than take to the shop for repairs?  Especially if I have to get a new motherboard.  BTW, what does 'Integrated LAN' means?

(3) my USB ports are 2.0 so I know it is not necessary to get a faster USB Ethernet adapter.  But is there anything else I need to know on which is compatible with this computer?

Thank you for your help.

(Usual tools find no problem because they only check the wireless connection, because any other adapters is located.)  It doesn't sound like the adapter was fried.  It's hard to explain when nothing else seems damaged.  However, it can happen.  I've seen some strange things happen to electricity.

(2) can I solve this problem by getting a USB Ethernet adapter, rather than take to the shop for repairs?  Especially if I have to get a new motherboard.  BTW, what does 'Integrated LAN' means?  Yes.  Here's a page on the Amazon site that lists several adapters.  I used a USB adapter with my game Omen HP laptop and it worked fine.  Integrated LAN means that the Local network adapter is a part of the motherboard and it cannot be replaced.

(3) my USB ports are 2.0 so I know it is not necessary to get a faster USB Ethernet adapter.  But is there anything else I need to know on which is compatible with this computer?  You are right.  While USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0.  No, none of the adapter should work.

My hp pavilion g7 as lx503av bed is no longer the wireless network card. instead of the icon being displayed wireless, I have only the icon of LAN. When I checked the Device Manager, the wireless network card was not shown. Once I scanned for hardware puts a couple of times, the adapter that presented themselves and the LAN icon changed the wireless icon. When I clicked it, it says "no connection is available" until my router is turned on and just next to me. Here is the PAGE of SUPPORT for this office.  It doesn't have a wireless adapter.  It has a wired aka the installed ethernet card.  The wireless adapter is a piece of hardware and must be purchased, not downloaded.  There are choices in the type would work better for you - USB or PCI x 1.  It may depend on the type of network you want to use.  The new highspeed options may require an adapter corresponding to the specification of network router in order to achieve faster speeds of the AC.  If you look at the "n" speeds then most can do.  Also be aware of the bands 2.4 and 5 GHz for newer routers.  If all this sounds "Greek", then perhaps seek help from a friend.

I know it's just a warning and it doesn't seem to affect the performance of my computer that I can say, but I would like to know why it's happening.

Well, I found the task that updates HPSA in Task Scheduler.  I disabled it by using the Properties window.  On the chance someone may be interested, I'll post how it turns out.

I hope that I can now keep the HPSA listed for my computer with no additional alert to update again HPSA that generates several warnings and is not compatible with my desktop computer Pavilion p6 - 2220t and/or Windows 7 sp1 64-bit operating system.

This disabled the HPSA update only not any other.  It seems to be a standalone update for HPSA.

    Hi there @tikaro23,

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome! It is an excellent site to find answers and ask questions. I understand that you have a problem with your Wi - Fi on the laptop HP Pavilion G6. You mentioned that you can't detect a wireless network.

I did some research and found a great document for you called HP PC - troubleshooting wireless network and Internet.

What happened with you have attempted to use the resolution of the problems mentioned in the link you so much?

Have you tried to restore the BIOS?

Have you tried to connect directly to the Modem/Router?

Have you tried to boot mode safe?

You can maneuver in Mode safe without problem?

In my research, I also found a Support Forum on the page called Microsoft Community after upgrading Windows 8.1 for Windows 10, no wireless networks are available.

There is a post of RajithR. Read his message in its entirety. (I also provided it below.)

You said you tried to uninstall the driver. Are - what you got to do it in the order shown below?

    • Uninstall the driver of network card in Device Manager,
    • Reboot the laptop twice,
    • Reinstall the driver.

Please use the HP Support Assistant, it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase or this update of need.

I know you said you tried to update the driver also. Have you tried to do it in the Device Manager in the order given below?

    • In the Device Manager
    • Click the network adapters to expand
    • Right-click on the network adapter family
    • Select software update of the driver
    • Choose search for automatically updating driver software.
    • Once the installation is complete, restart your laptop.

Please follow the troubleshooting steps above and the re-post with the results, information from the above questions and HP Pavilion G6 Notebook PC model number.

    Thank you!

  • Pavilion network adapter are not not in Device Manager

My Pavilion P6330f lost the internal network adapter (no internet connection, adapter are not not in Device Manager).  Is it possible to re-restore/refresh it?  I tried to do a scan to refresh hardware, but it doesn't show any internal network adapter.

I was able to get back on the network by installing a wireless network adapter via the disk support provided with the wireless USB device and using Device Manager.

It seems that the internal NETWORK adapter has gone (fried) and I need to install a new NETWORK adapter in one of the expansion slots.  Other options?

    Is this a common problem?

    D.

No, it is not common, unless your home has experienced a surge\dropout of power or a bolt of lightning. What you are experiencing, this is usually the result of thet.

Since your office worked five years ago, he certainly provided you a reliable service. You might consider looking for a PC replacement in 2015. SCP last usually about five years before replacement is required.

Wireless, it's that a good option as no extra wire is a good thing.

Hi, for the past few weeks my network adapter drops connectivity at any time and the only way it can be "solved" by deactivation/activation of the connection but even that does not always work. Or restart the laptop. From time to time, it disappears from the Device Manager too.
