HP Pavilion p7-1020: upgrade to USB 3.0 (P7-1020)

Hello!

I've had my p7-1020 for several years now and I'm very happy with it. However, it has currently only USB 2.0 ports and I would really like to install some ports USB 3.0 for increased efficiency. I have previously updated the video card in my PC so I'm uncomfortable, go inside the Tower, but I need help with the technical aspects of this upgrade.

First, I wonder if it is possible to add a USB 3.0 port on this computer (as in, do I have enough / correct type of PCI, power connectors, etc.)  I want to know if there is any special consideration I should do when choosing a piece of hardware.

Second, if it is possible, what is the effectiveness of this new material would be? I read on some other sites that have even thought that it would be possible to add hardware USB 3.0 for older machines, other limitations of the system could stop him to be very beneficial. Could this be true in this case?

Thanks in advance.

Hello

HP sells a USB 3.0 PCI-E x 1 card.  I used this USB card in three different PC and it works pretty well.

    Hello

No, no point to do so because the chipset on the map inside is ONLY for USB - 2. But according to spare PCIe slots on your machine, you can buy PCI USB3 card such as one of these:

  • Pavilion 6235 upgrade with USB 3.0

I want to upgrade my Pavilion 6235 with a USB 3.0 PCI card.

Any suggestion / manufacturer that works?

    What else, keep in mind?

USB 3.0 is supported by the motherboard?

    Thank you!

Your MB supports USB 2.0 devices.

If you want to upgrade to USB3.0 you can go for a PCI-E 1 x add on the map like for example this one:

If you are looking for in your MB chipset nVidia MCP61P (rev A03) race it should support the PCI-E 2.0, giving full USB3.0 so support.

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 laptop 6199us and there just USB 2.0. I read that your motherboard and processor must be able to run USB 3.0 if you want to change anything out. How will I know if my computer can run USB 3.0?

If it can run USB 3.0, I would like to either Söder USB 2.0 ports and put it on 3.0 ports or buy a small surfboard USB 3.0, for a HP Pavilion DV6T-7000 and replace the two USB ports that are not attached to the motherboard.

Please let me know if this is still possible or if I am simply not understand what the computer needs to run USB 3.0.

    Will007, welcome to the forum.

You will need to purchase a PCI Express x 1 card.  There are three of these locations on the motherboard.  I'm not sure you can see the full power of USB 3.0, but it will be certainly faster than USB 2.0.  Number of computers most recent didn't reach speeds of USB 3.0.

    Hello Parvezb ;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your post on Windows 10 Upgrade and wanted to help.

I never cease to be amazed by the amount of misinformation that MS representatives give people on Win10!

Rumors started about Win8 NOT be eligibile for the Win10 upgrade because people could not do it from Windows Update. But later, MS released information on the upgrade paths, and he showed be extensible Win8 to Win10 using Win10 media.  So what rep MS told you that he was not eligible for Win8 doesn't even know their own products!

You CAN actually go to Win10 when you want - using the tool of MS Media: 10 Windows Installer using the media - Windows help authoring tool

With this tool, you have the option of (1) creation of installation of Win10 (USB or DVD) media, (2) download an ISO file, (3) update the PC directly.  If all you want to do is updated on this PC, then choose the option: upgrade this PC now.

    Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.

Indeed, I am of the India.

First of all, I would recommend what I felt the better for OUR laptops. Mine is a DV6 6121tx with the config following-Core i7 2630QM at 2.00 GHz with TB up to 2.90 GHz

    12 GB DDR3 RAM

256 GB SSD + 640 GB HDD (will tell you more info on my dual setup of HARD drive later.

    HD6770M 2 GB with DDR5 Mem

So everything I post here, you can directly go and fix it.

For my double HARD - SSD drive setup, here go it.

    1 video - http://https :// www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmUkk2gdoC8

    2.Caddy -http://www.ebay.in/itm/Universal-12mm-Laptop-Optical-Bay-Hard-Disk-SATA-to-SATA-12-7mm-HDD-Caddy-/321405307668?pt=IN_Laptop_Desktop_Accessories&hash=item4ad53fcb14&_uhb=1

    3.cable -http://www.ebay.in/itm/USB-to-Slimline-SATA-7-6-MicroSATA-converter-cable-/221439545145?pt=IN_Computer_Components&hash=item338ed34f39&_uhb=1

4.SSD - GB to 256 GB Samsung 840 EVO (best value) or 840 Pro (expensive, but with the best possible performance). Buy SSD that from PrimeABGB - the best online store for SSDS.

Just a few errors that I don't want to make you-

1 put the SSD in Caddy and cable of optical drive on a HARD disk. Reason: your SSD will be connected to the Sata 6.0GBps port. You may think that you can directly put a SSD instead of HARD drive and put the HARD drive in the caddy, but HARD DRIVE could vibrate in caddy culminating in his death.

2 carefully remove the ODD mounting plate and put it on the caddy. You get an extra façade with caddy. With cable, you can still use your DVD burner drive as external.

For your RAM, anyone with a 1333 MHz will be. CASE latency for most of the brands are the same. Do not go for a 1600 MHz, as it will be a waste of money.

I should also the total list of expenses involved in this upgrade-

    1 SSD EVO - Rs.11, 000

    2 SSD Caddy-Rs 750

    3.cable - Rs.650

    4.4 GB OF RAM-~ 2600

    Total - Rs.15000.

Believe me, you will fall in love with your laptop again.

Just a word of warning-reading on google how to make the best of the SSD. Its much different from your HARD drive and a lot of need to follow different practices. Also, I recommend for a 128 GB, as I personally have 185 GB free on SSD after winning 8 + all apps + 3 heavy games installed. So you can save any amount it.

    Good shopping

  • HP pavilion p6000: memory upgrade

Have a Pavilion p6000, SN MXX0490MHH, product # BT543AA #ABA.  Provided 4 x 2 GB with 8 GB of ram installed on the chips.  Operating system is Windows 8.1.  Upgrade to 16 GB and bought 4 x 4 GB DDR3 1333 MHz, DIMM parts.  Does not seem to accept the new memory.  Question: Is this good memory, and this system will support 16 GB.

    Hello

Explain what "is not except" means. Windows is not except the new memory or the BIOS does not recognize the memory or the PC does not start with the new memory?

We cannot answer your question, given the information you have posted.  You can certainly search the forum for others who may or may not have success the upgrade of your particular PC model to 16 GB.

Try to clear the CMOS memory. If this does not solve the problem then test each one dimm at a time.  Don't forget, with the former PC HP DIMMs need to be a game.

Try this memory bootable Diagnostics CD. Download memtest86 iso file and burn the disk using Imgburn.

Memtest86 4.20 more Installer USB.  Test each dimm one at a time then as a complete set.

  • HP Pavilion 500-311no: the hp Pavilion 500-311no upgrade

Hp Pavilion 500-311no desktop PC, I bought a few years ago and now I feel like I would get some more power out of it then is it possible to upgrade this computer. I use mostly this pc for a game so what I'm looking to upgrade is the gpu. It seems that the motherboard supports the latest grphics cards and I think they should also fit the case. Incase of replacement parts, the power supply needs to be replaced probably as well. Also overclocking motherboard support and how the overclocking and replacement parts affect warranty?

    Greetings,

You have some positives on your side:

    PCIe available x 16 slot 3.0.

    UEFI BIOS.

Your chassis will limit the duration of the update of the graphics card.

You have only a 300 Watt power supply.

Most of the HP motherboards cannot be overclocked. I have a processor Intel 4820 K. HP offers limited overclocking abilities with this processor.

Check the measurements on the existing power supply.  A diet of 600 runs most new graphics cards high-end. NVIDIA cards tend to require less energy than equivalent AMD cards.

Check the height of the rear panel input/output where the x 16 slot is to determine the maximum length of a new card.

Shop for a new card graphics and power supply when you know your limits. The high-end cards are usually double slot. Make sure you have room to install a card double slot. You need to be able to burst a second plate of input/output rear panel to install a dual slot graphics card.

Modular power supplies reduce tangles of cables in the chassis.

    See you soon!
