HP Pavilion s5280t dead?

My s5280t (HP Pavilion Slimline Desktop, purchased late 2009) suddenly "died" this morning. not sure what exactly is wrong with it...

I have run most of the time, which suggests (surprisingly for me) in the owner's manual. each time a program will choke after working too long, so I'll restart via the menu stop. went this morning and noticed that Windows takes to always 'shutting down '. This produces every once in a while, so I'll manually it turned the light switch on the top of the unit off. I'll usually wait a few minutes, then click the button again to turn it back on. for some reason, it does now. no clear blue power, without fans or boot drive, nothing.

I tried plugging it into another outlet to see if it had nothing to do with it, but still nothing. I noticed that a small light at the back of the unit (on food) lights when plugged however faints after disconnecting the power cable. you don't know if it tells me that the power supply is ok or not.

any ideas? I'm assuming that somehow the power supply or the power switch main himself died suddenly. could be a fuse, but I don't see any what fuse (assuming he did a fuse that could be replaced). It seems strange that he was seemingly minute running ok, but would not be able to back off, he.

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

-justin.

(probably not related, but I thought I would mention...)

I don't think that it could have something to do with the hard drive, I think it would be at least tries to start if that was the problem. However, I noticed that a few months the SMART self-test has failed during its verification of diagnosis. from a Google search, it seems that this means imminent failure of HD and seems to be a common problem. It's pretty ridiculous, the thing is not yet three years old and already the HD is about to die?

jbuonacc,

You must read and follow the power supply (PSU) test procedureand other tests listed here

Tests shall be made with the box to open.

Hard drives are not lacking. Disconnect the wires on the hard drive and report any error diagnostic.

  • Pavilion P6000: Dead PC?

Hi, I need help on my desk. My PC has 6-7 years now, and I have not activate it for almost 2 months now. I just reactivate it recently and it worked fine for a few minutes, so I went alone and when I came back, it is 'dead' and there not may start more. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you for the additional information.

If it were me, I would buy a power supply at least 500W.  It won't cost much more and it will give you more power for peak usage periods.  According to me, it may even the PSU last longer because it puts less stress on this issue.

I love Corsair products.  A modular power supply is good for small boxes.  Allows you to use only the cables that are absolutely necessary, allowing a better air circulation that will keep the cooler components.  This is a power supply that will work for you.

750 GB hard drive on my Win 7 Home Premium desktop is completely dead. [See data recovery? below.] With regard to the new replacement unit 1 TB, I don't have recovery discs (my bad) and can get a USB bootable HP for $30 in 5 days.  But if I will Windows 10 in any case, would it not easier to simply direct that, assuming that I can download from the MS site?  Is this possible or do I have a valid Windows installed before 'upgrade '?  I have the serial number of windows etc. since it is a 64-bit licensed machine Win 7 legit bought new at HP.  There cpu: AMD Phenom II X 4 830 (D) 2.8 GHz and 6 Gig of RAM. From W10 v1511 that you do not have to enter a key when it is stored in the bios, W10 will find that during the installation, so you can just go right to the 10 and spend 8 installation.

Even if it is not stored in the bios, you can enter a product key valid W7 orW8 during installation of W10 and he will accept it.

  • Pavilion g6: hp pavilion g6 dead

    Hello

    my laptop does not start.

When I hit the power button, the power button lights up in solid, solid [orange] turn on the wireless button and caps lock button flashes slowly.

What ive been reading indicates that this is a blown cpu.

    two questions:

    1-is it worth fixing?

    2. How can I access the files on the hard drive and transfer them to my new computer hp laptop?

    any guidance is appreciated.

It won't be my fault if for some reason, the hard disk is dead. If the Board got fried by a power surge which can also kill the drive hard, but very rare. Your data in all likelihood are safe. You may need to take ownership of the files on the old drive until they can be transferred, but Windows should do it just for you. Post back if you need assistance.

HP recovery discs: I have them, but cannot use them because the DVD laser does not (CD only)

Hello, I'm recovering from the corruption of BIOS, hoping that it is not a failed mobo.

I downloaded the latest BIOS update for my system, but I can't this file to install on an external USB key using HP instructions to restore the BIOS.

To 1.11 step, I don't get the "HP system BIOS Update Utility" screen. Instead, I get this:

    My questions:

    1. is there an easy way to get this .exe on a USB? (I tried 3 computers and 3 cards USB, WTH then?)

    2. If not, can I just unzip and create a bootable USB in another program by copy/pasting the BIOS file?

    3. is there anything else I should try before flashing the BIOS?

Thanks in advance for your help. ^^

UPDATE: the "BIOS error" was in fact the video card that failed due to repeated overheating. The repair shop, replace the video card and repaired the overheating problem (I don't ask how), and my computer is like new.

For those who have a similar with their computer, my error "BIOS" problem (as it is coded by flashing lights of my computer) turns out to be a video card has failed.

The repair shop, said that what happens when computers overheat frequently, which mine did. Thus, they have changed the video card and solved the overheating problem, and my computer is in working condition.

  • Pavilion DV6000 - dead wireless network card

    Model: HP Pavilion DV6000

    Series: {information}

I bought this laptop from a friend about 8 months ago. Everything worked initially, but one day... the wireless off (a few months ago). The switch does nothing (light orange rest).

I tried to call support, but I was told that I have to buy something for them to offer any kind of support because it is out of warranty. I would also like to note that the call took time because of a strong accent of the Indian woman who took the call.

I've updated the bios with the latest version.

No wireless card does appear in Device Manager at all.

    I have Windows 7 SP1 64 bit

    ----

From what I've read so far, it's a VERY a common problem with the Pavilion DV6000 (they should have issued a reminder on this subject because I have heard say that laptops from 1 to 7 of this model I have this problem.) I also read that it may require a motherboard replacement to get the wireless working again.

If anyone has information about how I can solve this problem, I would be very grateful.

Replacing the card is not expensive. All you need is your Jewelers screwdriver.

Here are prices ranging from $ 46.00 USD 15.  Just Google the part number of Broadcom. BCM94311MCG

  • Pavilion a1257c Dead drive hard lost recovery disk.

I need a hard drive and a recovery disk.  Any hard drive works?   In addition, the recovery disks are still available?

Geekster, do you have any recommendations as to where I could buy a recovery disk?

    0Seeker1340, welcome to the forum.

Yes, you can use any SATA drive of the computer.  I suggest buying a 500 GB drive, 7200 RPM.  This will give you a lot of space.

Here's a guide to get recovery discs if they are available:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/bph07143

I would be surprised if they are available, however.  There are sites online that sell older HP recovery discs.

  • Hard drive installation of the HP Pavilion ZT1155 via 2.5 "to 3.5" IDE connector

    Hello

I was invited to focus on the recovery of data from a laptop HP Pavilion ZT1155 dead. The system has been errors during Windows XP startup - chkdsk complained of bad sectors. The machine now starts at all. While the BISO reports the HD as a present, try to boot from it translates a message "a disk read error has occurred. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart. »

The user wants to retrieve the data of the machine if possible. Needless to say that nothing has been saved.

I removed the hard drive and tried to connect it to a Converter 2.5 "to 3.5" IDE. But it does not.

The hard drive is a Toshiba MK4026GAX, capacity 40GB 2.5 ". But HP seems to have added only a different style instead of the 44 normal IDE connector male pin connector key. One that's here now is marked 'SUYIN 22146' and is a long, rectangular slot with connectors inside edge. The manual for training on the Toshiba site made no reference to this.

I unscrewed the top Board circuit and this connector seems to be integrated in the device. It is not only the standard IDE connector plugging, but rather replaced it altogether.

Anyone has experience with this type of hard drive, or advice on how I could connect it to a regular system of 3.5 "IDE?

    Thanks in advance,

    Paul.

The connector you see is covering the standard brass pins but fits down tight, it looks like a solid plastic cover. Simply pull on the part of the connector until you get a separation of the body of the car and then carefully 'walk' it off the pins.

  • 500-300na Pavilion: problem with Pavilion 500-300na (mother of Memphis-S) - Dead / no beeps sound and video

Hello - I hope someone can help me please

I have desktop PC HP Pavilion 500-300na.
The PC worked very well without problem - I went for a stay of two weeks during which the PC was not in use and power was turned off. I'm back from vacation and the PC does not work now.

When you press the power button, the LED lights up, CPU fan, electric fan and the two spin system fan. There is no video. There is no beep error codes. What is it - actually dead.
If I hold the button for about 5 to 10 seconds, the fans run down, but the rest spinning CPU fan.

    What I've done so far:

    Tried another monitor.
    Tried a different power supply.
Powered by the motherboard on its own with any other disconnected.
Taken the Cmos battery on the motherboard for 1 min and replaced it.
Clean the dust from the fans (they were not so bad as to be honest).

The machine worked with in PCI16 slot video card - I removed this for the test. As I can't get into the Bios, I can't put in the work of the "mother video card." Not sure if it is a problem.
The unit has a strip of 8 GB of ram DDR3 - I tried this in another location without any changes.
I have not tested the ram. I have not tested the CPU or deleted one of the fans / heat sinks.

Thanks for any help you can provide
    Chris

Okay, I think THAT I managed to fix it and understand what the problem was.

I think the problem was double - first of all, before the problem started, Technical Assistance from HP have a BIOS update and download. I think that this update changed the Startup Configuration in the BIOS to "ENABLED" Secure.

Not really a problem. . BUT...

The video card I was running was a riser and secure boot DISABLED neeeded and legacy support ENABLED.

I have reset the BIOS using the jumper (bios password) information – I also did a 'blind' changing information from the bios to switch to the use of the video of the motherboard (bash F10 for 10 seconds at the start, then three arrows down, then two returns... This pass BIOS to "Apply default settings and exit"). I don't know who really helped, but the machine comes up in life.

I put the information here, in which case another experience a similar problem.

  • HP Pavilion 17-F122DS: laptop is dead, had failure ID

First of all, I'm not savy with laptops, seems to be 'Magical' for me, who said: I got an error, or omission ID and don't know what to do now, he showed me this "failure ID WRONG 3: 3-78C7L8-MFPV7F-60U303 'I think it's most likely a death of a party, but what exactly? Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

    Hi @nrasupporter ,

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome. It's a great site for information and questions. I looked in your question about your HP Pavilion Notebook 17 - f122ds and label identification failure MAL3H3-78C7L8-MFPV7F-60U303. This error is failure of Quick Test on drive 1. What this means is that your hard drive has failed.

I recommend the first thing you can do is to back up all your personal files etc as soon as you can.

The laptop suffered a Jolt any? I was wondering if maybe reinstalling the HARD disk would be useful.

Here is a link to check to see if you are in warranty. Page 35 of your manual shows you part numbers. It's the section I would use 778192-005 1 TB hard drive 5400 RPM, available for Windows 8.1 9.5 mm. Page 95 shows you how to remove the HARD drive.

Do not hesitate tocontact us if you need assistance.

    Thank you.

  • Pavilion dm4 (Windows 7) - Switchable Graphics is dead

    Pavilion dm4t-1100

    Windows 7

    64 bit

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 graphics card

For the past year, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 is always on, and I'm unable to switch to the Intel HD Graphics.

If I open the Catalyst Control Center, nothing happens when I click on Power Saving GPU. In addition, Intel HD Graphics does not show as an option in the drop-down list (see below).

However, the Device Manager shows the two devices and gives me the option to disable the two:

I have a Manager friend who works on Intel graphics issues, and he advised I have download and reinstall the graphics Intel HD since the Pavilion dm4t-1100 driver. I did, and when I try to reinstall it, I have this message:

Not being able to solve this killed my battery, and I want to fix this problem before I kill another.

I read in one of them that I'm able to roll back a device driver to get this working. Is it possible for this situation? If so, which of the two devices I restore?

    Any other suggestions?

    Hello

I think that the driver you are referring to, is available for download directly from AMD, unfortunately it won't work because it will not include the required Intel gpu driver or the Catalyst Control Center custom necessary to control your switchable graphics - downloads directly from AMD are generally for machines that only has an AMD graphics chip.

If you can't find the original version of HP of the AMD software to reinstall via Recovery Manager, try to download and install the switchable graphics driver on the following link: it's of an earlier model contains the two drivers required gpu and custom CCC.

    http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp48501-49000/sp48551.exe

When the installation is complete, restart the laptop - as I mentioned earlier, you may need to restart two times to get this to configure correctly.

    Kind regards

  • HP Compaq Pavilion 471: Pavilion dead 471

My mother 471 died. I have removed the hard drive to remove data and can not see the drive on a Dell PC. Using win 7

I asks me to format the drive and XP it is seen that in the computer management and then described as unallocated and 5.7 GB in size. The hard drive is a 40 GB Maxtor ST340015A. HP cache data if not fitted with a HP desktop computer? Thoughts please.

N ° HP is not that. The hard drive is just a regular MBR partitioned hard drive Windows OS environment.

Given the age of the hard disk, it can have, in a manner of speaking, left the building. Hard drives don't last forever.

There may be options available if you really want to delve into the inner workings of your IDE drive. You can replace the IDE card which is within the envelope of the disc and it could solve the problem. It is only if you are a lucky person. The problem is to find the card that works will open your drive, considering they are more manufactured.  Map source to swap meet and second hand shops.

  • Pavilion slimline s5-1554: s5-1554 Dead - PSU?

Computer was found dead.  I tried to start button, no response.  Follow-up of hp, troubleshooting guide: power green light continued and when trombone placed at terminals p1-17 and the ground, power supply fan came.  However, when reconnected and push the button start absolutely nothing happens.  Once fans started to turn for about a second, but stopped.  Troubleshooting Guide says if the power supply fan turns on when connected to the p1-17 mass, food should be good and should then consider the motherboard, memory, other causes.  However, I am skeptical.  My stomach has always said it is feeding.

I have an old computer that died, but has a good diet that would not be good, he would work to connect to see if it lights just like a test?  Other thoughts before you start exchanging parts as a diagnosis?

    Grumpy44, welcome to the forum.

I agree with you that it could be the power supply.  I've heard the PSU works using the paper clip, but still not be good enough to run the computer.  If you try to use your old PSU brand sure the power connector ATX is correct.
