HP ProBook 4730: An upgrade of the BIOS is not really necessary?

I did not the last update of BIOS, now, as of May 13, there is another.

My laptop seems to work well. I do not take the risk of bricking your laptop, unless there is a really good reason to take this update.

Kind of depends on if you subscribe to the school of "if it isn't broken, don't fix" or "There is always room for improvement".

If you decide to upgrade, be sure to read up as much as possible online to see what others have to say about the update to let others find any issues and benefits before you dive.  Review these comments:

  • Satellite A65 - Crash during the upgrade of the BIOS. Not now boot.

I have a satellite A65 s-1064, and I was upgrading the BIOS from windows. Suddenly, the computer turns off, and I thought that it meant that the update was made. I pressed the power button, and booted the laptop, but remained at a black screen. I thought maybe the BIOS was always something, so I left for a while. After an hour, I returned to find even on the black screen.

I pressed the power button to restart, but nothing happened. I finally had to pull on the power cord and the battery. Once I did, I plugged it back in and put the battery in, but nothing happened. No battery charging lights. No power lights at all. Nothing happens when I press the power button. My question is, could do a BIOS upgrade failure, and could I somehow reflash the BIOS without power?

    Hi Brandon,.

It is very unusual for an upgrade of the Windows BIOS cause this kind of problem. Normally, the power subsystem is quite independent of the BIOS.

Is there a reset button that you can use to reset the system your A65? (Sorry, but I'm not familiar with the A65). If so try to press it to see if this will allow you to restore the power of your laptop.

If you get no power at all (try removing the battery and then connect to the AC adapter), then it is possible that the power supply or the motherboard did not in this case, you will need to contact an approved Service Agent for the laptop repaired.

As for your question about flashing the BIOS without power, I'm afraid that this is not possible. You will certainly seized the restoreds power to your laptop you can proceed with your upgrade of BIOS.

  • 4730 proBook s: what version of the BIOS allows the activation of virtualization technologies?

I use Oracle VirtualBox with 7 VM Linux on my ProBook 4730 of s (OS is Windows 7 64 bit). Somewhere around the BIOS update F.20 my machines virtual Linux no longer works, because of virtualization technology has not been enabled in the BIOS. I tried to enable it in the BIOS settings, but he refused to be activated. So I followed the instructions to return to the correct known copy last BIOS on the recovery partition, and yet I could not enable Virtualization Technology in the older BIOS revision.

Then I went the drivers and software from the HP Web site section for my ProBook and downloaded the revision of BIOS Feb 2011 (apparently the earliest possible review of BIOS for my laptop model) and then flashed my BIOS with this revision. And virtualization technology setting STILL refused to activate it.

I've seen in this thread in HP forums:

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/notebook-operating-systems-and/HP-ProBook-4730s-BIOS-cannot-enable-virt...

anyone else with the model of my laptop had the same problem and the same symptoms: VMs worked up to a point in time and at that time there the Virt. Technology implementation option in the BIOS could not be reactivated.

    So my two questions are:

Any available for this model of laptop BIOS revision allows the activation of the option of setting of virtualization technology?

    and,

In the event of a revision, which one is it and can provide you a link where I can find a downloadable copy of it?

    LTW

OK, after you call the tech support of HP, I found the answer to my version of this problem. When I tried to activate the virtualization technology in the BIOS, I was logging in BIOS using my account in the BIOS. At least for me (and probably for others too, since it is advice from HP support gave me) it was bad. You must log in with the account Guest User of the BIOS BIOS, and when you do, a lot of parameters of the BIOS, including virtualization technology, can be turned on/off. So my problem is solved.

  • Satellite Pro A30: after disk HARD replacing the BIOS does not see DVD or HARD disk

    Hello

I bought a new Pro A30 of Satellite earlier.
Shortly after, I noticed the system sometimes
would freeze, with a rattling of the HD.
A reboot cold was the only solution.
I was told to replace the HD I did but the
problem persisted with the new HD.

I tried a known working HD and the problem still persisted.
At this point, the warranty period has increased.
Frost started happening more regularly, and
now, the BIOS does not recognize the HD player or DVD.
It starts and then try to boot from the network,
because he doesn't have a HD or DVD player.

At this point, I think I need a new system board.
Someone at - it other advice or seen this problem

    Thank you

What happens if you remove the CD/DVD drive or the HARD drive?
The laptop recognizes one of these devices?
Have you used the devices recommended by Toshiba?

  • Satellite L50 - PSKJNR - update of the BIOS is not compatible

    Hello.

Finally, you set a BIOS update driver on your site (a few days ago it was cracked).

I was so happy that started to read manuals on bios recovery (because I'm really scared of BIOS update). But for some reason I need a newer version of the BIOS (to disable the video card and bluetooth adapter).

Well, I started the file and got: "error. The bios is not for your PC"why? I am sure, I have chosen a correct version of the laptop!

    Hoping for an answer.
    Mike.

    Hello

Do you have something on your laptop or it turns with the factory system pre-installed?
From my own experience such BIOS error message may appear due to some missing essential Toshiba software. For example using Win 7 added value package is required. To help to win 8 Toshiba System Driver must be installed.

    Hello!

Please, someone tell me what is the problem with the update to v1.60 SP4220 BIOS? It does not start even do it according to instructions.

    I did the following:
1 download/have unzipped the package v1.60 since the BIOS page on a non-bootable floppy disk empty
    2. put the floppy in the computer
    3. turn on the device with the F12 key

With a floppy, I got the "non-system disk" error and another with a "EMBRL" error message missing. What is it, I'm not familiar with that one?

    You have problems?
If the laptop works well the update of the BIOS is not necessary! My laptop is about 6 years old and I have no day BIOS!

  • Satellite C660D boot - update of the BIOS has not

    Hello

In recent days, I get a blue screen of death with the error 'whea_uncorrectable_error', I read something about the BIOS update, because the error is probably caused by the previous version of the BIOS. I gave the updated correctly, but as soon as restarting my laptop, nothing has been started.

The fan and the keyboard work but nothing else. I tried to remove the RAM, remove the CMOS battery, pulling on the battery and holding the power button, but nothing seems to work.

Can you please help me and tell me how to recover my BIOS?

because the error is probably caused by the previous version of the BIOS.

Older version of BIOS does not BSOD... cause the BSOD appeared during the last day, but I guess the laptop worked correctly in the past under the old version of BIOS... the BIOS could not the problem here...

However, the fact is that the laptop is dead now... probably because the update process was interrupted due to the BSOD...

From my point of few the EPROM has to be re-flashed again using BIOS crisis disk...

Some people tried to solve this similar problem using the 3rd party crisis disk (use forum search the crisis disk to find similar topics), but it still does not...

That's why I think that in most cases only the Toshiba ASP may be able to reflash the EMPRO using the original disk of crisis

  • Re: Upgrade of the BIOS in a Toshiba Satellite L640

Hi all, how is life. I have a Toshiba Satellite L640 with LUbuntu 12.10. My BIOS is v 1.70. I think I should update, because the latest version is 2.70 and he could solve some battery problems.

The problem is that the bios upgrade software for the toshiba site is only for Windows. He is not yet back, in this case I could start from a USB Pendrive with FREEDos installed and do the upgrade.

Then, someone knows some way? I read you try to run the upgrade through wine application is not recommended. Also, I guess that it is not advisable to pass by VMWare, but I don't know about it.

Of course, I have no system to dual-boot, just Lubuntu Qantal.

    Thanks in advance

You are right. Toshiba offers WIN version only, so it cannot be used with Linux or by using the external device as BACK up to date.

What problems do you have with the battery?

  • SL510 crashed in the middle of the upgrade of the BIOS.

I had to reinstall the operating system (Windows 7) using my rescue disks after that my computer has been infected by a virus. The re-installation went well and I went to download a series of updates through Windows Update. I also did a few software updates via the tools of Lenovo. While it was the upgrade during the night, apparently he hung on the BIOS upgrade and did a variety of noises so my wife am bored off the computer. Now I just get a black screen when I turn on the computer. The hot spare no longer work. I also tried the BIOS boot CD (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS013595) and who did nothing no more. Any suggestions?

  • The upgrade of the BIOS for Satellite A200 PSAF6A-07G01N

    Hi all

I'm trying to solve some problems on my mother in computer laptop laws and it looks like a few things low level. I want to do a BIOS update, as on other laptops of my this has solved similar problems.

The problem I have is to find the good BIOS to use. On the Support download page I select the right model A200 PSAF6A-07G01N etc. You then get to the options of 4 or 5 and the version numbers and types are not very obvious.

    Model: A200 PSAF6A-07G01N
    OS: Vista 32 bit

I tried to download the only version of Vista 2.6 - 1.98 MB, but it gives me a BIOS for the PSAE3A not PSAF6A which is my model (are they the same?)
Filtering by Windows Vista & XP you get version 5.2 2.73 MB, but the name is very generic.

I don't want to kill the laptop so pointers on what BIOS should I use?

    See you soon

    Jack

    Hello

You probably have the Australian cell phone model. Therefore the right place to search for the BIOS is under http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/home

Go to help > downloads and choose your model of laptop. you will find BIOS updates for your laptop model.
