  It will be interesting to know if your external CD is a USB or PCMCIA device.

  You must make a Windows startup disk and add drivers for your CD-ROM BACK drive and then you should be able to recover the machine with this CD.

• TouchSmart ROM recovery procedure

  I've updated my BIOS on my TouchSmart 520-1020 to the latest BIOS on the HP site.  While performing the update, then screen went black and went through a series of 8 beeps.   I now get only 8 beeps and no display.  I realize that the 8 beeps indicate memory bad video, but everything was fine before the update of the BIOS.   There are jumpers on the card for the recovery of the ROM, but I was not able to find instructions on how to get it back.

• Satellite P10 - beginning of recovery with Windows 98 disc

  Having just bought a new PC to decided to clean the old a because it does not work well and often breaks down. I started to run the cd-rom recovery (startup pc, press and hold C, etc.) and the first screen showed a message on * from Windows 98 *! I quickly abandoned the process, and there is no change to my PC.
  As my old PC (Satellite P10) came with * Windows XP Home * I was surprised by the reference to Windows 98.

  I m not 100%, of course, but as far as I know it of normal that you see from Windows 98 for a short period because the installer of recovery is BACK/WIN98 founded but that doesn t mean Windows 98 will be installed.

  If the recovery disk contains Windows XP will be installed, but Setup of recovery based image on the BACK and if Windows 98 starts.

  You should try it! I'm pretty sure because as far as I know the same thing happened to me on my older Toshiba laptop.

  I just encountered error 1002 while using the recovery... Recovery successfully crossed reformattng my drive, but crashed before reinstaling the original content. It's okay if I'm trying to hard drive or dvd rom recovery, all this translates into error 1002. I did some research and it seems that it is a very common error in hp without adequate solution products. I think I'm out of luck because my warranty expired years ago... How can I solve this problem? For me, it seems that recovery content originally placed on my hard drive (and later burned on the DVD by me) had been damaged. I see 2 possible solutions here:

  -to order an another recovery of the drives together (although I saw a few reviews it did not)

  -buy the new "Windows" and install a new fresh install (I will be able to perform the new installation at all?)

  I'd really appreciate pointers as I really don't want to lose my money for a solution that would work!

• Tecra 9100 ' NMI: channel check "BSOD".

  My laptop two years Tecra 9100 1.7 Mhz computer faithful began to get a very regular blue screen of death. This occurs only when it is running on battery power and the error message is:

  The battery should t be worn, as I have little use, I even kept it out of the machine to avoid wear out that I almost never need to use the machine in a mobile context, i.e. There is a practically new battery! It's only in the past month (since I got wireless broadband) I used the battery at all.

  Just to remind the laptop is totally stable on the sector and never blue no screening while tension in this way. The problem occurs only when powered by a battery. I flashed the Bios up to v1.6 v1.5 with no effect. The problem occurs with a completely new install from the CD ROM recovery and also when it is fully configured with XP SP2 and all the XP2 post updates.

  Anyone any idea what's causing this error? Any diagnosis I could do?

  Sorry, but I have bad news for you. This message occurs if there is a problem with the main Board. I can't say exactly what it can be, but I think that some piece of hardware is not recognized correctly.

  Contact the Service partner in your country and Tony let check the laptop.

• NB200 laptop cannot boot from USB CD/DVD drive / blinking cursor

  I have a toshiba nb200 - 11L, a little less than 2 years (no guarantee!). Recently, it has developed a problem that prevented him from starting the system and all that happens is I have a flashing cursor in the upper left corner of a black screen.   For the installation of an operating system, you need to RECOVERY DVD. Put in the DVD player, turn on the unit and press the C key on the keyboard. Keep it down for a short period and the procedure of the facilities will begin.
