HP Z420: compatibility Ram Z420

I inherit a z420 ready to go, but it doesn't have any ram. The processor is a v1 E5-1650, so it is of the first generation. I need to buy some ram and Crucial offers kits. I can't the 1866 'faster '? It's the same price as the slower ram.

I know that it will execute models that use processors v2.

Thanks in advance.

Hello

You could install 1866 MHz but adjust automatically to 1600 MHz because that's the bus processor front-end (FSB)

  • HP DV6 3103 sl-do not start with the new RAM

    Hello

    I have a Hp Pavilion DV6 3103sl with a dual boot W7 - W7,

I don't want to update the 8 GB RAM, and here's the problem:

I tried to add a new Corsair 4 GB of RAM for 4 GB samsung which is already there, it did not work.

so I thought that there was a problem of compatibility RAM of coupling of different brands and

I tried to use the Corsair only: it didn't work again.

Long story short, I tried two different 4 Go Corsair-1 Kingston 4 GB 1333 Mhz 10600

I tried alone without the RAM samsung and all three do not work with the laptop.

He continues to start again OR it gives a BSOD

What should I do? It is impossible that all the 3 banks of RAM I tried are defective...

    Thanks for your help

To properly upgrade the memory in your laptop or desktop PC, it is recommended that a pair identical memory compatible modules guaranteed of a well known brand is used to place the original single module. Remove the original module.

Ability to mix, brand, speed module... essentially of the differences in the module is usually held in one upgrade failed.

Samsung module memory + module Corsir = memory upgrade memory failed.  Kingston 1333 Mhz + module Corsair 1066 + upgrade module memory has failed...  These failures are expected.

    Hi all

I have an Intel Xeon Z420 E5-1620, and trying to increase the ram of 4 GB to 8 GB. I bought two sticks of compatible 4 GB of RAM and used to replace the two sticks of 2 GB of RAM that came with the computer. The problem is that my computer only reads about 4 GB. I went to msconfig and made sure the maximum memory was 0, but I don't know what else to try. If there is a BIOS update that will fix it, would someone please send me the link? Otherwise, I'm stumped.

  • Z420: E5-2630 v2 and compatibility z420

    Hello

    The question is very simple:

    I have a V2 E5-2630, is compatible with the z420?

    If not, how to fix?

    Thank you to.

    The answer is very simple...

The only way that a processor will work in a HP workstation is generally if it is listed in the part of the BIOS of a workstation's microcode.  Way easier to see if it is in the list is to get the HP QuickSpecs, and I don't know any way of the probe in the BIOS for a reading of workstations approved firmware.  The thing to understand is that just a processor theoretically should be able to work a HP workstation is not because it is possible.  It must be on the list.

Processors V2 work that in the Z420, Z620, Z820 workstations that have cards mothers "revision 1" (you and me who would call "version 2" motherboards ").  The way to see if yours is original or revision 1 is going into your BIOS and looking at your date of boot block.  Write that down and then see by looking here if you have the original or the motherboard later.  If you have the original, you're out of luck.

And, guess what?  I'm sorry to see that your processor is not listed in the last QuickSpec for the Z420 (but that's the last QuickSpec for the Z620).  So, you should be in luck if your workstation was a Z620 with the latest version of the motherboard (the one with the date of starting block later).

  • Z420: Z420 different revisions?

    Hi all

    Question

Are there two different revisions of the platform Z420 as with the Z400?

I have two different pdf for this product and a list of the Sandy Bridge E5 Xeons with 1600 Mhz memory and another inscription Ivy Bridge E5 V2 Xeons with 1866 Mhz memory?

How can we identify one from the other?

Is this the same motherboard and just a BIOS revision that opened the compatibility with these processors and memory?

Yes, there are two versions, the original "Version 1" and the "Version 2".  The original can run the Sandy Bridge Xeon processors that HP certified for it.  Version 2 can run the Sandy Bridge and more recent processors Ivy Bridge "v2".  A nice little article on the differences between these two generations of processors is linked below.  Again, assuming that you have a newer version Z420 you can generally only Sandy and Ivy processors listed by HP Brige can due to the firmware BIOS limitations built-in (there are rare exceptions):

    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2405317,00.asp

A trick that works for most HP workstations is to search, for example, 'Z420 spare parts' in Google.

Top results you see HP for that and noted in chapter of the processors of the Z420 there 700000 part number processors series with IB (Ivy Bridge) in the front as the available processors.  Note also to the bottom in the section below is a couple of 700000 motherboards part numbers.  This is the later Version 2 ones.  Le-001 is delivered by W7 installed. the largest number to W8.

I do not have the date of the BIOS boot block simple differentiation between Version 1 to Version 2 for the Z420, but it's the best way to know if you have a.  The dates of start for Z620 and Z820 block are 28/12/11 for the original and on 06/03/13 for Version 2 motherboards.  Look in your BIOS under the first tab for this... Your Z420 may not have the exact dates, but should be close, and you'll know that.

So, if you focus on the QuickSpecs and HP literature since the beginning of the era of 2013 you will start seeing Ivy Bridge being designated processors.

You can watch the Intel 'Ark' site under the approved HP v2 processors to see if there is only 1 sSpec code, and if so, you can be sure you are buying a used the same processor upgrade eBay to if you go this route.  Search on eBay under the sSpec code when you found on the site of the Ark... it will be linked at bottom left of the cover page for each processor that you are looking for.

I upgraded processors in Z400/Z600 workstations, but not yet a workstation ZX20.  Even proceeded, I'm sure, just more expensive.

    Hello

There is a wide range of motherboards, however it takes a little research to find the right one for you, you must first find the plug your CPU requires, next, you will need looking for what you need for your motherboard, and finally, you will need to know what price you're willing to pay.

  • Clocked at 20 degrees warmer since putting on 3.87 Rev A Bios Update on Z420 Workstation

    I have a question:

Not too long ago I put the Bios Update on A Rev 3.87 was considered to be as critical an update on my workstation Z420 (running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit), and lately I've found that the CPU idling at about 20 degrees more hot than before.  I used to hear creaking noises coming from the computer I learned normally come circuits on the motherboard power delivery, but as long as I heard those CPU would be on average around 50 degrees C at idle.  I hear these noises and now the CPU is on average around 70-75 degrees C at idle.  Not sure what the connection is.  HP performance Advisor tells me I'm in the normal range, but I want to just make sure that with programs like Autodesk Maya there, she become too hot and stop the machine.   I don't know what the temp high-end is considered maximum security.  This change could have due to the update of the Bios?

Thank you for your response and suggestions.  I check in my BIOS power management settings has been developed the extended mode, but the temperature has always hovered around 70-78 degrees at idle.  I checked Intel spec for this (E5 - 1650 6-core xeon) processor, clocked at 3.2 Ghz by heart, and although he said nothing on the TMax, he mentioned that the TCase (which he defined as the maximum temperature allowed integrated processor heat sink (IHS)) was 64 degrees Celsius.  Now my temperature of the case, according to my HP Performance Advisor version 1.7.7517.0 is only about 24 degrees C, but I put my fan a little higher CPU, about 2009 rpm speed.  This makes a little more noise, but my CPU temp has dropped to about 49 °.  "" Before the change of the fan speed has been slightly more than 1300 RPM while the Advisor I have always said that it is in the range "normal".  Is it good to get the speed of the CPU fan like that or do I have to go a little lower?

  • Change language of the BIOS of HP Z420 PC workstation

    Hello members,

I use a HP Z420 workstation PC. I bought this by a French seller, the BIOS menu is in French. It is anyway to change the bios to English language?

Go to HP.com, click on Support, download the drivers.  Put in Z420 in the product name, then select the workstation Z420.   This will bring up the page drivers.  Select the version of your operating system.  (This is the usual place to find drivers)

Under "Software - management system" down load the utility BIOS Configuration (BCU) (International).  This tool will create a text dump of your BIOS settings file.  We can change this file, and then use the changed file to update the BIOS settings.

In this file, there is a section for the "install language", with several languages listed below.  The language with the * in front of it is the one that is turned on.  In your case, remove it * before French and add it * before English.  Then follow the instructions on how to use this file to update your BIOS settings.

  • Compatibility with Equium P200 RAM

    Hello

    Is PC2 - 6400 S-666-12-1E with Equium P200-1ED compatible?
I don't know that I asked before I bought it, but now it does not start. So I want to know if it is because they are defective or got bad advice.

    Thank you

    H Jacke

It is not easy to give you the right answer because Toshiba offers info on the RAM modules tested only.
What I found in the specification is information that your machine can be upgraded up to 2 GB of RAM and the compatible RAM modules are:
    1 GB-DDR2-667-PA3512U-1M1G > Kinston KTT667D2 / 1 G
    2 GB DDR2-667-PA3513U-1M2G
    512 MB DDR2-667-PA3511U - 1 M 51

Unfortunately there is no information about the other brands. You can buy it and test it. If there is a compatibility issue just return it.

On a lot of the newer HP business desktop computers, there is no need to run programs to add S/N to the BIOS.

You can see if this approach works on the Z workstations as it does on the new HP Elite 8xxx.

After entering the Setup by pressing the F10 key, press on Ctrl + A to open additional fields in security > system menu IDs.

Enter the serial number of your PC inventory and serial number of chassis number.

Save the changes then and once when you exit the BIOS.
