I am trying to install Windows XP SP3 on a system with XP Pro SP2 volume license.

original title: I am trying to install sp3 on a xp pro sp2 license volume

as said, trying to update offline a retro gaming machine which is a xp pro sp2 (play volume license) with the standalone SP3 but it keeps throwing cannot install, kernel windows me.

thing is so far all the machine has on it is XP pro 32 SP2, adobe reader, firewall (disabled for the installation of sp3) software, avast (yet once disabled during the installation), the drivers ATi and catalyst (disabled at startup for installation) and .net 3.5 (necessary for the completed sale final catalyst 8.8).

any ideas what's happening people? and all work around solution or method will get SP3 to realize that the copy of windows is legitimate?

If it helps, it's a machine for windows update offline and the tool of the GAV aren't on that

OK, cheers for the help.

has caught ISO sp3 rather old stand-alone setup I had; and for some reason any has no exe work again even in safe mode but the iso.
My advice to anyone with a similar problem is grab ISO sp3 and use instead.m

  • I am trying to install Windows XP SP3, but get the error number: 0 x 80244019

I followed all the instructions on the solutions provided, the fix for me did not work and the patch it seems to work (in other words, some of the settings needed to be changed), but when I tried the update for the gazillionth time it still does not work.  I have an old computer HP Media Center - could that be the issue?  It is a circular, thorny problem because I need to update my browser as well, but some of these commands do not work because I have not installed SP3.  Ugh.  What other options do I have? This all started because I had to run the recovery after a crash. I guess that he put everything back to factory default.

I also download errors when I tried the advanced download SP3 which says [1] KB936929-SP3-X 86 - ENU .exe is not a valid Win32 application...

Thanks, I had already tried that and it didn't work, but then I saw a tip in an other thread trying to install using another browser.  Once I swithced to internet explore for Google Chrome download worked!  Hallelujah.

During the last attempt, I discovered that several dll is missing.  Here's the msxml6.dll, wups2.dll, c:\windows\system32\wucltux.dll and c:\windows\system32\wuwebv.dll.  If they are critical, where can I find them, and how do I get support.

  • Do I need to install Windows XP SP3 on Vista?

I recently bought a laptop with Vista Home Basic.  Update Microsoft keeps asking me to install Windows XP SP3 on my computer.  I have to install the SP3 of XP on Vista?  If this is not the case, how can I turn off the darn request?
    Thank you.

    Hi Rkroberts,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

The answer to your question is no.

You can choose to have windows stop offering you this update. Here's how:

    1.

Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button, all programsand then click Windows Update.

    2.

In the left pane, click check for updates , and then, when Windows finds updates for your computer, click view available updates.

    3.

Do right click the update you want to install, and then click hide update. The next time you check the updates, the update will not be automatically selected or installed.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
