How long to keep the security updates?
Each security update is stored on my hard drive. What I need to keep or are just executable files that can be emptied after the installation?
Hi bobsleigh pilot,.
You must keep all security updates are offered by Windows Update. These updates are provided for more security of the computer and it is recommended that you do not remove all the files associated with the windows updates.

When is it safe to remove the old updates and patches recover disk space?
I have a LONG list of updates from windows to windows xp, Media Player, microsoft, etc. in a way at the time where I got first computer and set on automatic updates. I'm sure that they consume valuable disk space but how do I know which ones can be deleted without problem?
Never. If you remove them, it defeats the purpose of the patch/security updates. Your calculation returns to a previous state vulnerable.
If you need space, get an external hard drive for all of your data.

original title: failed to get the security updates and critical update for Vista (KB2541763), to load for Vista
All the other updates, including security, for other Microsoft software will open (WIndows Explorer, Microsoft Office, etc.).
This seems to have started after downloading and installing McAfee on 6/17. Updates have been well before that date.
Service Pack 3 is installed.
All updates important/critical loading fine up until this date. I have 11 updates essential and important to load.
I totally removed McAfee from the PC, including the stage you purchase from McAfee for cleaning the system. Now run the ESET security suite.Hi Dan,.

Did not receive the security updates June 2016 for Win7 Pro.
Two of my three PC Win7 Pro received June downloads security on 15 June. My third pc from today (July 1) did not get these downloads. The last time it was in May.
I told Win. updated LOOK for downloads but it sets just there saying looking for UPDATES. I waited an hour long, but nothing happens after that research, keep just on & on.
Please note... I have no problem to download other applications.
I wrote the numbers of June security update KB of my other PC. Where can I download them manually?
Try the following: manually install the client June 2016 update rollup package, including a new version of windows. Earlier versions may not manage patch day KB3161664 June. This would be a solution for now to install it manually, but with a high probability of the issue of his return on the day July patch.
https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/KB/3161608
Before you install the updates manually, the value of the automatic updates to 'never check updates' and restart to avoid any research activity to interfere in the background.
Best regards, VZ

You are prompted to install the security update even if the update is already installed
I use a laptop which has downgraded from Vista Home to Windowx XP Pro w / SP2 (although maybe it's not relevant). Issues installing security updates through Windows Update before today have never known. I am prompted to install the update from a security XP KB956744, what I have done. I installed it through Windows Update and automatic command prompt directly. I even posted the update as something to ignore, but I am always prompted to install it. I also tried to uninstall the version on my machine, and then reinstall the update, but I am always prompted to install it.
Two questions:
1. because I received a prompt saying that it has been successfully installed and it appears in Add/Remove Programs, I can safely assume that it has been installed successfully even if I continue to prompt to install it?
2. If my previous question is true, how can I window update to ignore this update even if I have already reported as such by the normal means?Thank you.

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for posting your query on the Microsoft Communities.
It might be difficult when things don't work the way it should be on your computer. This problem may occur for corrupted or missing drivers or due to conflict of third-party application. However; We will try to refine to see what is causing this problem and try to fix it.
Please help me with the following information related to this issue:
- Do you have a message when you say "a problem with a multi card driver?
- When exactly the computer crash or freeze? It is tempting to access a particular application?
- Do you mean that you are not able to install updates when you say "he does not accept the security updates"? If so, you receive error message?
Follow the steps in the following link and check:

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2681286/en-us
See the section on Windows 7
Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.
If you are not able to install Windows updates, I suggest to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter
which will automatically fix some common problems with Windows Update.
Open the Windows Update troubleshooting tool
