2. my fan is obviously full of dust (after 4 months) and my machine a lot less cooling. I rather it clean manually, not only with a vacuum cleaner, but this requires the opening of the back cover again.

Thank someone for any response.

  • I totally disable updates, so I stop doing a gazillion of pop-ups on an update, I don't want?

I am very happy with the version of Thunderbird that I use.

How can I totally disable updates, so I get a gazillion of pop-ups on an update, I don't want to stop me?

Tools > Options > advanced > Update tab

This is where the settings are about the updates.
    There are three options:
1 auto check and install updates
2 auto check but ask me if I want to install
    3. do not check

Looks like the second option is selected, it's check and asking with a command prompt. I also use this becaue I want to keep updated with corrections of bugs and security issues, but I want to update when I say and not when I'm in the middle of something important.

Thunderbird update will contain updates of security, bug fixes etc.
You should be aware that selection update may affect your security risk.

  • How can I get windows update to stop suggesting updates, I know that I don't want.

I have windows update set to alert me when there are updates available, but let me choose who is accepted. That's how I like it, and I don't want to change this setting. However, I don't want to know if there's a way to deny successfully an update, so that I'm not yet on this subject whenever I start my computer. It's a gene. I want to just delete some of the list. I don't want to stop doing alerts on updates that I can accept. I'm on vista Home premium. Thank you.

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and files numbered prefs-# .js and rename (or delete) the file prefs.js to reset all the prefs by default, including the prefs set via user.js and pref which is no longer supported in the current version of Firefox.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

    • Help > troubleshooting information > profile directory: see file (Linux: open the directory;) Mac: View in the Finder)

Windows hides certain default file extensions.
Among them are .html, .ini and .js, .txt, so you can see only file name without the file extension.
You can see the type of actual file (file extension) in the properties of the file via the context menu in Windows Explorer.

  • How can I stop unin wedging something I don't want not uninstalled?

I hit the key by! accident

    Hi Mary,

If you have uninstalled it, you really can't stop it (well, sometimes there is a Cancel button to do and that will usually work and sometimes if you stop it with the quick task manager enough it will work - but usually it gives just a messed installation and the program will not work properly or not at all).

If it's already done, one option is to use the system to a restore point BEFORE, did you uninstall and who must return things to normal with the program here and the work. If you use Windows 7, see:http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html. If you are using Vista, see:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/. If you are using XP, see:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial56.html.

If that doesn't work, then please tell us what OS you use, what you have uninstalled that you don't want to (name and version), and whether or not you have the original installation disks or downloads for this program.

I hope this helps. If not, please provide the above information so that we can direct you to resources that can help you (assuming he didn't MSE you tried to uninstall - then we will help you here).

    Good luck!

Understanding Windows Update and Extras in Windows Vista

Read the tutorial above on how to change the way you receive updates.

Vista offers four different methods for how Windows Update updates your computer. Below, we explain each method and when this is the recommended setting.

Install updates automatically (recommended) - if you select this option, then all the critical updates will be automatically downloaded and installed on your computer. These updates will install at the time, you specify the fields to install new updates. This is the recommended option for the majority of people because it ensures that you have all the critical updates installed automatically on your computer.

Download updates but let me choose whether to install them - if you select this option, Vista will download the updates on your computer, but not install them automatically. If you want to install updates, then you must install them manually. You should only select this option if you have a reason to not install updates automatically. Only advanced users should use this option.

Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them - if you select this option, you'll be alerted when there are new updates available for download and install. You can then choose to download and install the updates that you want. This option should really be reserved for people who know exactly which updates they need, or those who have little access to the Internet.

Never search for updates (not recommended) - if you select this option, Vista never automatically checks updates. This option should never be selected as it puts your computer are likely to be affected, infected or hacked
