I downloaded the new version, but firefox says always that I must update - why, and if there's a step 'install' miss me why are there no instructions on how to do?
Why Firefox didn't insist that I still use version 3. It doesn't matter when I downloaded faithfully new versions when he tells me to do so-recently version 8. whatever (today). If "downloading" is not enough and there is also a stage of 'install', I still find anywhere in Firefox that tells me how to do. I restarted my computer, but this does not seem to make a difference. He always tells me that I use an outdated version that soon is not supported.
There are 2 ways to update 1) using the built-in update function and 2) download an install version complete.
Let's do #2 for now. Go to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/ and download the exe on your desktop. Closing Firefox. Run the installation program that you downloaded to your desktop. Open Firefox. If you always said you run the 3.6.24 version, your user agent can be spoiled. If this is the case do the following:
Enter about: config in the URL bar and press ENTER.
If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access this page.
Filter = general.useragent.
The preferences that are bold, one line at a time, right-click and select Reset.
Then restart Firefox

I get throughout the download process and move it in my applications. He then asks me if I want to replace the old version with the new. When I click on replace, a new window appears with the fact that my computer does not have privileges for the operations so I can not complete the process. Well, that really gets me, is that it appears always say that I need to download the new version. I don't know what to do.
If he has problems with the update or the permissions then simpler is to download the full version and trash the version currently installed to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the file on the desktop disk image (dmg)
- Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
- Trash the present application Firefox to do a clean (re-) install
- Install the new version you downloaded
Your profile data is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you will not lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re) install Firefox.

I received an email saying it was the reporter that I was using an outdated version, and I wanted to download the new version of firefox. I clicked on download now. I am running windows 7, if I get a backup it box. I save it. so I open run it. When I click Run, I received a message asking if I want to run something from an unknown source... then I hit Cancel.
I don't think that Mozilla will send e-mail to its users and ask them to update to Firefox. I have never received such and I have been using Firefox from the day that it was released. Users will have to use its built-in or from its Web site update. This email is probably a scam. You must remove it immediately.

I have followed the instructions to download twice, said that my download is complete, but still seem to have the old version with the message to download the new version, so I'm going in circles
Your user agent string (identifies the version of the browser) reports that you have Firefox 3.5.19 and not 4.0.1
A quick look to confirm which version you have, if the bookmarks menu has an object called "organize bookmarks" you use Firefox 3.5.19, if it has one element called "show all bookmarks" you Firefox 4
If you have Firefox 4, you must reset your user agent string so that it correctly identifies the version of Firefox.
- Type of topic: config in the address bar and press on enter
- Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
- Locate the general.useragent.overridepreference, right-click on it and select Reset, this function will set the default user agent string in Firefox 4
There are other user agent string settings that may have changed, but these are no longer used in Firefox 4. You can reset them if you want, for details, see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Websites+or+add-ons+incorrectly+report+incompatible+browser
If you have Firefox 3.5.19, you can use the integrated update system. In using the menu, select "Check for Updates" and it should offer to install Firefox 4.0.1

Notification of an update appeared, I proceeded to update, attempted to launch the new version and I was told it is not compatible with mac os 10.4, the version that I currently use. How can I get the old version of firefox back so that I can continue to use this application?
You can get it here - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

I want to get firefox, keeping all bookmarks.
Download a new copy of Firefox and save the file to the desktop.
- Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current version of Firefox.
- Do not remove the data of a personal nature when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Delete the program folder Firefox before installing newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
- It is important to remove the Firefox program folder to delete all the files and make sure that there is no problem with the files that were the remains after uninstallation.
Your bookmarks and other profile data stored in the Firefox profile folder and will not be affected by a relocation, but make sure that you do not select delete data of a personal nature if you uninstall Firefox.

I can't download the new version of firefox
When I drag the firefox icon in the applications folder, it tells me I don't have permission for some components. I am the administrator of the iMac, so I am using should have permission for downloads etc.
If you get an error that you do not have sufficient permissions or have other problems with update to update then easier is to download the full version and trash the version currently installed to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the file on the desktop DMG
- Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
- Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
- Trash the present application Firefox to do a clean (re-) install
- Install the new version you downloaded
Your profile data is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you will not lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

This question is so incredibly basic that no one has asked before. But as naïve as it may be, I just want to be sure, because if the old version is not uninstalled, I don't know how to make that happen.
Thank you.
Eric
If you install a beta version, by default it will not replace the existing version and is installed in its own directory. If you download a release version, it will be installed by default in the standard installation directory and replace what was previously installed.

I'm unable to download the new version of Firefox.
I click Download but no icons appear on the screen to be slid into the applications folder. An icon in the downloads, but not Orange Firefox, just the metal icon. What is my problem?
The thing in your download folder is a "disk image". You must double-click it and it puts a white 'disc' on your desktop. It should also open a window with a Firefox icon and your applications folder. Then you can drag it to the applications folder. When you're done drag this disk to the trash. I have google as my default homepage on my Mac. This morning when I opened Firefox Google home page fills the entire page, there is no menu or toolbar at the top of the page. I tried to click on F11 but it fills just the search bar with an f. I tried right clicking and clicking on 'ESC' but which does nothing. I tried to screw up my version of Firefox and download a new version, but when I opened it, it opened to the Google home page and there's still once a menu or toolbar. I did not restart my computer once I downloaded the new version of Firefox. I'll try that right now.
On Mac, command + shift + f should also switch between normal view and full screen.
Another method that may work is to drag the pointer of the mouse completely to the top of the screen. If the tab slides to the bottom bar, you can right click (Ctrl + click?) an empty area of the top (or right click on the button '+') and you should get a context menu runs with the option for Mode full-screen output.
Does it work?

I got the message to update my browser, I went on the site and download the latest version of Firefox. I update my plug-ins as well. However, I always get the message that my browser is obsolete. I uninstalled it, reinstalled, without success. Please help me. When I go to help and select about Firefox, I have that I use the latest version: 6.0.2.
Check general.useragent preferences on the topic: config page.
You can open the topic: config page through the address bar just like you open a Web site.Filter: general.useragent
If all general.useragent prefs are "BOLD" (user set) then right-click this pref and select reset.
It would be probably due the FBSMTWB on the end of your useragent that you had added the Fast Browser Search toolbar extension.
