  • At the start of office shows icons and then goes to a blank white screen. I have Vista Home edition

When I turn on my Dell Inspiron with Vista Home preinstalled desktop PC; the system starts with the desktop icons and then goes to a white screen, absolutely nothing to click on display. I hit control, alt delete, then to display the Task Manager. I click on the Task Manager and the display shows nothing is running. now the taskbar displays the shortcut at the bottom of the screen icons. I then click on the desktop at the bottom of the screen icon and mode full-screen displays a complete picture, including the background with the regular complete icons. Why this happens, and how not to eliminate the white screen after starting? The Task Manager does not fix this.

next steps?  is there a way to access the BIOS?

    Thank you

There is a simple solution to this problem.  The HP Online Crash Analysis Team has finally responded to my email after 34 days.  I had given up hearing from them despite several requests to repeat.

I had completely disassembled the laptop trying to find the bios setting the jumpers on the motherboard in response to an idea contained in one of the PM, I sent... all to nothing does not...

OCAT told me to look in the BIOS under "system configuration" for the Native SATA support.  The last update of the BIOS resets this point 'activated', but that only works for Vista & Win 7.  This must be set to "disabled" for XP and previous operating system.

I hope that this post will save someone having to wait 5 weeks invest hours of work for a solution that took 3 minutes!

I tried to install some of Halo patches to see if that would fix the error (for example, 1.6 and 1.7), but when I try and open the patch .exe file I get an error message telling me to go to a microsoft Web site or try to update the game manually. In addition, I tried to contact Gearbox Software to see if they could help me, all they said was to contact Microsoft.

  • Satellite 2410 603 run diskcheck and then turns off after startup

When I turn on my PC it runs a check disk and tells that the following file is not valid: windows/prefetch\matcli.exe-061DBA
After the disk check, it starts up to the main screen and then stops as if I had pushed the power switch.

Is there a way to solve this problem without the recovery running disk (and thus losing all my data)?

    Hi guy,

MATCLI. EXE is a component of AOL Broadband and is usually optional (i.e. it is not necessary to run Windows).

The PREFETCH folder is from which your laptop try to play the file. It is an area where Windows stores copies of files that are usually loaded during the start-up phase, so that they can be pre-loaded in the cache, which allows Windows to start up more quickly.

It is advisable to clear the contents of the PREFETCH folder on a basis regular (Microsoft recommends a monthly purge of prefetch contents), but you can just delete the folder PREFETCH itself since Windows will allocate a new start-up.

Since you can't actually start Windows to delete the PREFETCH content I suggest that you try to start your laptop in 'SAFE' mode, since this will only start with the minimum of Windows files. If this succeeds, then delete the PREFETCH folder before you try to start Windows normally again.

As a final thought, it might well be a corruption on your hard drive for some reason any and it would be a good idea to run a utility to check hard disk in order to assess the State of your hard drive (using CHKDSK from Windows or a third party utility such as Norton Disk Doctor).

    Kind regards

  • recurring message on the entry owner program - will not stop after reinstallation of C4480

Since I had to re - install the software for my C4480 I continually get messages on the screen asking if I want to participate in the program of user input.  No matter if I accept or refuse, he returned again and again, to infinity.  I tried several things to stop this and have had NO success.  I'm under a system i3 with 8 GB of ram and Windows 7 Home Prem 64 bit with SP1.  I hope someone can direct me to a solution.  He drives me crazy!  Thank you!

Dave223Hello and welcome to the Forums of HP, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I see that you are having problems with the participation of the user program pop ups. I would say by completely removing the software, using a L3 uninstall. If you have any questions, I've included the following steps:

-Load your driver CD and go to the directory util\CCC on the CD
-There should be a list of batch files
    -Run the uninstall_L1.bat
    -Run the uninstall_L2.bat
    -Run the uninstall_L3.bat

Once the software has been deleted, I would suggest to reinstall the HP Photosmart C4400/C4424 all-in-One Printer series full feature software and driver.  Once you download and run the software, it wil give you an option of customization before installation.  Deselect everything, but the printer driver, and then install.

Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting operations. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

  • CHKDSK will not stop. When re-starting pc it goes back into the chkdsk command. When I try to boot in SafeMode (f8) happening in chkdsk. In addition, the CD/DVD does not work so I can't reinstall XP.

After installing windows update was the CD/DVD drive on my Dell desktop computer was not recognized.  I downloaded drivers from Dell.  My pc has stopped and went into blue screen mode.  I don't have the error codes.  I got into safe mode and tried to run chkdsk.  Now, it is in a loop constant chkdsk.  It restarts automatically and run chkdsk again.  I interrupt to start safe mode by pressing F8, it gives me all the options of safe mode.  But after I selected one, it goes in chkdsk again and repeat the cycle.  In addition, given that the DVD drive is not recognized I have no way at this point to reload XP.  The only thing that I have access to are 'start-up' and 'set-up '.  I can change these settings, but so far nothing that I changed it helped.  Thank you!!!

    kag187,
You need to access your BIOS (usually like F2, F10 or Delete at the moment it starts to boot, I must say on the screen).  Then set your boot order to boot with the CD player.  Then boot the XP disk.  If your system is not to see the player you have a hardware problem and nothing did\could from Microsoft, which would cause.  If the BIOS does not see your drive then ck with your OEM manufacturer for a firmware update or a new disk.

Good luck QQ learn to deal!
