PS. I did some research on mackeeper and discovered it's more late was a scam, a very huge scam! Never download.

Is "Logmein" microsoft support service? is it a scam?
Is "Logmein" microsoft support service? I think I'm scammed me and allowed a so-called tech from Microsoft to connect to my computer and then hung up. What should I do now? How can I know if they are still connected and what they put on my computer? Help! I googled Microsoft Tech support and got this information
* original title - think I got scammed... HELP! *
No, it's not Microsoft. Almost certainly, they tried to put malware on your computer or steal information from you.
The best way would be to assume that you have been infected by malicious software - the best advice of deletion I've seen are given by SpiritX in infected by the virus-how to remove?
If you have any password, account / card numbers or pins on your computer, you had better likewise assume that they have been copied.
Good luck with all that,

Hey everybody. I have a question since lenovo seems to lack a complaints when it comes to this. I bought a used X 220 and can not identify whether she should be multitouch or pen of entry only on models. Screen part number is (according to lenovo page):
04W3462Model number is 42962WU
Touch screen with your finger does not work (if any).
I don't have a stylus (pen) currently since she was not provided with the laptop BUT:
Said property windows: no pen or touch input is available for this view.
Reinstalled windows freshly twice as well as drivers (once downloaded manually, twice used Lenovo system update)Says always the same and there is no tablet or pen and touch settings in Control Panel.
In some other subjects, someone suggested a similar problem as solution installation wacom pen drivers, lenovo Digitizer drivers etc.
Tried the drivers provided and with each driver throws the same error: a Tablet supported is not found on the systemMaybe there detect pen close to the laptop and it should be good?
A I just got scammed?
Thanks a bunch!
For all of you who have the same problem, it's a hardware problem (motherboard).

Compromised security fixing Macbook Air running Lion.
My mother got scammed and some people have taken complete control of his computer remotely. While she didn't give them his information of the Bank, they had total control and therefore no matter what on the computer that could be compromised should be supposed to be compromised. I plan to wipe the drive and reinstall the software. I was wondering two things...
Is the recovery partition that put on the computer somewhere safe to reinstall it from Apple?
She's not all backups. She has some JPEG files she wants. What is the best way to transfer? I was thinking a USB key I need to scan with Symantec antivirus. But I've heard that usbs are dangerous?
She has a Macbook Air. She was running Lion (10.7). I don't know until I get my hands on it tomorrow...
Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance.
Nothing on this box is entirely safe to be safe - even the backups can be suspect.
See re - install or try surgery? for a recent discussion of the present.
Your own USB drives are very likely very well. Yes, there are ways that USB drives you pick up in a parking lot or in trade shows can cause problems, but this isn't the case here. Buy the disc, erase and format it in HFS + on your Mac and allows to transfer what is important.
I would probably do a full backup of the entire system on an external drive, on the off chance that there is something else that may be necessary.
FWIW, anti-virus and anti-malware tools are not known to be particularly robust or reliable products, are not intended to detect backdoors, some have a history of having backdoors and security bugs in packages and are not designed to defend against what is happening in a growing number of people; against scams and phishing attacks, as has happened here.

Fixing security compromised Macbook Air

If you know or suspect that a hostile intruder had physical access or took control of it remotely, there are a few steps you should take to ensure that your computer is safe to use.
First of all, depending on the circumstances, computer tampering can be a crime, tort or both. If there is no chance that the case will be prosecuted, then you should do nothing without consulting a lawyer or the police. The computer would be the main evidence in such a case, and you do not want to destroy this evidence.
There is no need to run any kind of software "anti-virus" or "anti-malware". If I broke into a system and wanted to leave a back door, I could do it in a way that would be undetectable by these means, and I do not claim any special skills as a pirate. You must assume that any intruder can do the same thing. For example, commercial keylogging software - which has legitimate uses as illegitimate - is recognized as malware, because it is not also a malware.
The only way you can be sure that the computer is not compromised is to cover at least the boot volume and restore it on something like the State in which it was before the attack. The simplest approach is to restore the entire system from a backup prior to the attack. Obviously, is only convenient if you know when the attack took place and it is recent, and you have such a backup. You will lose all changes made to the data, such as email, that were made after the time of the snapshot. Some of these changes can be restored from a backup later.
If you are unsure when the attack occurred, or if it was too long ago for a complete restoration be convenient, then you should erase and install OS X. If you have not already at least two backups complete and independent of all data, then you must go first. A backup is not enough to be sure.
When restarting after the installation, you will be prompted to go through the initial setup process for a new computer. It's when you transfer data a backup in the installation wizard.
Select only users in the Setup Wizard dialog box - not Applications, and other files and folders or computer & Network Settings. Don't transfer the guest account, if it has been activated.
Reinstall the third-party software from original or fresh downloads - not from a backup, that could be contaminated.
Unless you have been the target of an incredibly sophisticated attack, this procedure will leave you with a clean system. If you have reason to believe that you have been the target of a sophisticated attack, then you need expert help.
The above fact, change all Internet passwords and check all of the financial accounts of the unauthorized transactions. This, after the system is blocked, not before.

A I get access to my files from unwanted prefetch?
Probably got scammed by the same guy "prefetch unwanted files. Problem is I followed through for awhile before I googled and found out it is a scam (while I was still on the phone with him). So I ran and consulted my Junk Prefetch (files showed it), but then I closed and hung up on him when I realized it was a scam. Am I compromised even if I just ran and closed?
What you did is harmless. There is no such thing as Prefetch files junk. When you type in Prefetch, it will display your Prefetch folder. The "Junk Files" part is ignored and is only a part of the scam to scare you. When you get the results the guy will tell you that it testifies to the virus or somesuch. Of course, it is nothing of the sort. They then ususally go to the event viewer and give you a similar story on the normal entries in the logs.

Hello. I bought this hp s510h camera at an online auction site, it was listed as "New" and the State of operation. I get it in the mail plug the cable of the charger + adapter and connect the plug to load. LED light the camera does not light, the camera does not, the battery not supported., am I right to say that the device is defective / does not work? User mnanual said that if the battery is faulty, the light should go and it isn't, that's why I think it's the camera and not the battery which is broken. I plugged the adapter into the socket and tested via usb with my flipcam and is it charged my flipcam. Micro usb cable looks good too. I think I got scammed. Don't know if I should waste money on a new battery or just ask for refund (the auction said no refund, so I think that I lost money). Thank you.
My next camera will be bought in a real store (authorized seller), not a sale at auction.
Buyer beware...
I know people who buy a lot of these sales at auction and usually the thing works fine. But there is no way to know the status of your bet either.
Yes, you are probably correct about the refund policy no since the auction is just the go between seller and buyer.
If you bought at auction Nation for example, they are good while giving you 24 hours to return a no element of work if the item did not indicate he was broken in the description. They will allow you to pass the warehouse and a test item before you bid if. If the auction is too far to go in person, I would consider buying also.
All you can do is the place you bought to call and ask.
I wouldn't bother with the purchase of a battery at this point because you have a good chance that you will be throwing more money. Yes, the light should always go if the battery is bad.

I got a phone call from one of the related foreign accent that he was with Microsoft Security and that my computer has been used or something to that effect.
I could hardly understand him. Is this another scam floating around? What should I do to report this?
Thank you
Short answer: Yes. It is a scam. Not much interest to report, as MS are well aware of this problem, but there is little they can do about it since then (I guess) most of the calls are created outside the United States

I got a phone call from someone who said they were from microsoft and my computer was in danger, unless I paid 130 pounds for a new warranty, is it a scam?
Hi Debra,
It's a SCAM! Microsoft does not make that neither have they partners that do and don't they hire contractors or individuals or even to find volunteers to do. There are probably thousands of these companies out there do every day - we get two or three posts like this (or more) each day ask about it. You are lucky who have recognized the scam enough not to be sucked in and eventually identify theft, infections, hacking your computer, convince you to buy software or services you either did not need or that do not really exist at all and all sorts of nefarious stuff. You'd be surprised how much contact us AFTER THAT that they realized they had been duped asking what to do. Don't waste time talking to these people, not give them any personal information it is, don't be fooled by what they can get allows you to see on the computer - in fact, not do anything they suggest on your computer or even to visit Web sites they recommend and for the love of God don't give them access to your computer.
Microsoft knows this is happening, but with these companies popping up like dandelions, or closing and changing names when discovered and operating mainly from abroad, it would take an army of lawyers to sue each other. They do the best they can, but they are just too many and more added every day. People need to pay attention to these things. They occur not only by telephone, but also by e-mail, instant messaging, mail and all the ways imaginable. Forget not that Microsoft doesn't this and hang up or remove the emails or messages or mail from someone claiming that they do because they know the information on your computer or that you want to get information from you to confirm your account so that it will not be closed and asking you your name of user and password and all sorts of other personal information. Microsoft DO NOT!
See below for additional information on this topic and what to do and how Microsoft works:

I'm glad you don't get captured by these crooks and save yourself a big headache. Continue to use the same caution and you should do fine.
Good luck and best wishes!

I just got a call that I think may be a scam.
I just receievd a phone call (# not available) at 07:00 a man of Middle Eastern decent saying my PC may be at risk of crashing and he wanted to guide me through the process to fix. I was suspicious so I asked for the name of the k. comp. everything he has worked for the phone # saying ask him back. He spoke quickly, as he was trying to confuse me. He got impatient when I asked how I had to know what it was or who he RM for. Luckily, I didn't make changes or to do what it has been educate me. I called the #. It looked like to ' Steve (same guy), he replied "*", not "Hi, this is Steve of so so." I'm not a techie person and could easily have been abused by letting him "Help me" and then having accsess my person info. I called a friend who worked for a COMPUTER company who told me that he was not interested in my PC, but in accsessing my personal info. Advice? Elizabeth

I got a survey of users of Firefox saying I won something, is it a scam?
A separate window jumped upwards and said: "congratulations, you have won the 2014 (Houston) annual visitor survey. I answered the questions in the survey, and then he gave me the choice of 3 prizes. That's where I stopped and realized that this could be a scam any. Firefox even done this kind of thing, because it seems really well done. If not, is there a way to declare this as a scam? If I win something, that's fine, but I want to assure you that it is safe first.
Thank youHello, unfortunately you are right to be wary of this. This seems to be a tactic of the scam and no real messages by firefox or mozilla, since we run this type of business or promotions, we focus on great software products development instead!
Maybe that's a problem caused by adware on your pc. Please go to Tools > addons > extensions and remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, the things that you have not installed intentionally, I don't know what purpose they serve, etc.).
Remove a toolbar that has supported your Firefox or the homepage search
Fix Firefox problems caused by malicious softwareIf it's a site that uses the firefox brand to draw attention or misleading users to participate in these surveys, you can report as a violation of the mozilla brand to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/legal/fraud-report/ so that other measures can be taken in this regard.
Thank you!
