Do you think we (or rather you) will be able to decipher this problem or are - it probably that I have to reinstall Vista and SP1, and then try again to install SP2...

My #1 concern is the fact that your computer has been & still lacks so many updates of security reviews.

    • Support for Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) ended on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. Computers still running Vista SP1 "will no longer updates [i.e., updates published after July 12, 2011 so you're now nearly three 3 years behind on security updates critical!]. from Windows Update"until SP2 has been installed (this will require several prerequisite updates be installed first).

Even if we managed to get SP2 installed, there's a very good chance that one or several updates released since July 12, 2011 will not be able to install.

Then there's the fact that your computer - and the data on it - has been at risk for so long.

Therefore, the only way you can ever trust the computer sescurity again would be of formatting the hard drive - and then do a clean installation of Windows (Vista or Win7).

See the poster in this thread and follow the instructions of (my) WHOLE (to-the-letter & in order! ) to restore your computer to a State safe & functional: http://answers.microsoft.com/thread/c44429fb-3f7c-4646-8529-5a97bb3cd0eb

If you need additional help with the clean install of Vista, please start your own new thread in this forum & advice: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-system

If these procedures are outside your technique "comfort zone" - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the local computer, reputable and independent (i.e., not a "BigBoxStore") computer repair shop & let them do the work.

Note: The computer must NOT be connected to the internet or local networks (i.e. other computers) in its current state. All your personal data (e.g., banking online & passwords credit card) must be considered at risk, if not already compromised.

Wish I had better news for you.  Good luck!

  • Problems with Windows Vista update error code I get is Code: 80096001

    Hi gang,.

I need help I can get at this point. I am currently working on a machine to a customer who had the rootkit zero.access top. The machine works like a champ, now that it is all clean; but for some reason any Windows Vista refuses to update. Let me mention the operating system before proceeding. The operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. When I try to run Windows Update, the machine has a total of seven updates to install; This is especially important and option. In the important section, the machine is trying to install a security update and that is 9. In the optional section, the machine is trying to install the driver as updates: video, network, etc. The PC is already running Service Pack2. The error code I get is: 80096001. I tried every fix that Microsoft recommends, even the Microsoft Fix It tool. Nothing seems to work. I had a simular problem before in Windows XP. If my memory is good, I had to go to the entry in the registry of Windows Update and apply a DWORD here, or something; I don't remember exactly what I did. I can tell you that I checked the registry and there is literally no key to change in Windows Update. Any help or advice would be great, this question is about to drive me crazy.

    Thank you

    B A C K G R O U N D:

I am running Vista Home Premium (32-bit version) and I need to upgrade Adobe create Suite 3 (CS3) to CS4. The problem comes from the fact that CS4 requires Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) and I'm unable to install SP1.

So, I would be very grateful if there is someone out there who could offer some advice to help me correct my current system with SP1, allowing installation both need the software Adobe CS4. Someone has an idea of what I might try next?

    3. Computer is then restarted again (or maybe it goes directly from 2) 3) without a re-boot inbetween?) and now I am facing a window called "Start up repair" telling me "your computer is unable to boot"... here I just have to click Next and the computer now spends in the order of 45 minutes to fix the system. • Problems to install Vista SP2, error 0x80070bc9

Hi Mick Murphy, I can't install SP2, although it should have been downloaded automatically until I'm having some strange problems with my Vista so I'm trying to verify that this update is installed correctly.  As it has been dated to 2009, I do not remember exactly but think I had a problem and claimed a record that never came.

Anyway your connection link see that as a mistake!

I tried a reboot before reinstalling clean but KB948465 gets up to now and shows then I think a mess of Ox80070bc9 error (sorry, but I'm starting to get confused by all of this.)  I then read to use the KB947821 Hotfix but who wants to install both versions at the same time;  Thus abandoned that.

    Help!

  • Cannot install Vista SP1, error 800F0816

I reset my computer to factory settings. I went on the installation of the updates that come with, until the time came to Vista SP1. I did the thing, he started to install and when it restarted it sent me to the thing system restore and it has not stopped. I was forced to 'pull the plug' and reset my computer to its previous state before installing SP1. Everything was OK until I did my format. Could this be a problem, that I don't have my original graphics card and RAM on my pc (I have them again).

What else could I give you, so that you can give me the best possible solution. I just want to know where the fault is and how to fix it. Even if I have to buy new hardware or something like that. Could it be, because I did a format and I have all the drivers and other updates, so that my computer crashes after I turn it on in the morning?

  • Impossible to install Vista SP2 - error 800f0900

I run the update package and invites me to accept the license. It fails then after about 10 seconds with this error. I tried several times to install the service pack, including the stand-alone version. Other updates were installed fine.  I've disabled my AV (norton) software and closed all programs. I have cleaned the update of Windows, as shown in the steps "General Windows Update troubleshooting" and still get this error. I searched high and low for articles related, and that this error pops up regularly in previous discussions. I ran many times analysis tool, including a new on the list updated as recently as yesterday and I still have this problem.

The system is a Dell Studio 1737 with 2 x 320 GB drives. No further questions. Help!

Great help, thanks.  In any case, I found a day 1 Norton Ghost backup on DVD from when the system was brand new. I restored all files in the directory windows\servicing\packages for patches of two problem (955839 and 853839) and catalogues of CSI corrupted in windows\winsxs\Catalogs\

The response was so corrupted files and installed SP2.  I would have found it much more quickly if, when the tool DONE, he actually TOLD me to look in the newspaper! I had taken a correct end of the update TO mean that she couldn't find any problems.  Seriously, I would put that!

    Hello

Please join Microsoft Community where you can find the necessary information on Microsoft products!

You can not install Vista Service pack 2 and get the error with code 800f0a09 and the message that there are problems with the driver for dell latitude.

The problem may occur if some of the components of the update are corrupt.

What is the full error message that you receive?

I suggest you follow the steps mentioned below to check if the problem is with the update components:

Method 1: Reset the update components

    See the site:

How to reset the Windows Update components?

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

Warning: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. See the site:

    Disable the anti-virus software

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-in/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. • Problem re-installing VISTA after the removal of Windows 8 Preview Release, all I get is a black screen with a message "Not found operating system"

I recently tried Win 8 on my VAIO laptop spare parts on which I ran Vista, after having previously deleted all the files and documents (I don't use often the laptop). Having concluded that Win8 will really work correctly with a touch screen (and the display size was bad as well), I uninstalled WIN 8, understand that I have to re - install Vista from my rescue disks. This I tried successfully a few months previously to make a clean reinstall. However, after removing 8 WIN via the Control Panel, I can't re - install Vista now. All I get is a black screen with a message "The operating system not found" and the rescue disks do not register. What can I do? I like Vista (although I now run Win 7 on my PC) and really want to put it back. Grateful for the advice.

Well I finally fixed it by tweaking the BOOT BIOS settings and find something along the lines of VAIO Setup. I'm afraid, I just don't remember exactly what I did, but suddenly I found and ran 'VAIO Hardware Diagnostics' gave me a heart when it announced "no error was detected on the Vaio. Then I saw there was an entry for 'VAIO Recovery Utility - Recovery Wizard' and everything started to load. Since the 2 recovery discs I had. Finally, I ran MS Office and Small Business CD-ROM and now everything is back the way that it used to be. Here I had taken more note of how I got to the well Recovery Wizard. I hope that I never have to do it again!

Cannot install SP2 (KB948456 - X 86) on a laptop Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP1 with all updates of Windows installed.  Quickly fails after it starts with error 0x800b0100 in the system log.  It's a fully verified SP2 full download.  I did a full chkdsk /r who fixed some issues.  Removed AVAST.  A running Fix It tool that fixes the problem with crypt services.  Scanned for malware with MRT.  Scanned for malware with MalWareBytes.  Scanned for rootkit with the McAfee tool.  Run the sfc/scannow, that signals mistakes.  The CBS. System will not install KB972036 - States does not apply.

Referring to 956702 KB notes that the http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=167357 link that needs 32-bit is 64-bit.  In addition, it specifies SP2 - which obviously I do not have.  But I manually downloaded the apparently correct tool and ran it - get does not apply.
