  If you have not saved the document before the reboot - and Windows always give a lot of warning before restarting automatically - while the file disappeared.  There is no way to recover; System Restore does apply to system files, not data.

  You click the Show/Hide in the Standard toolbar.  The location of this button may vary depending on the version of Word that you have (that you did not state).  Click the button again to make the marks disappear.

  My 8630 Pro of Officejet newly installed works fine except it won't print a picture of the logo in a Word doc and a Quickbooks invoice. The logo image is near the top of these two documents. I use this in a small business. My other 3 types of (all HP) printers print the same Word documents and invoices from Quickbooks without problem. Convert .pdf files works but is not an effective workaround solution in a business environment. The printer test page shows that I use mxdwdrv.dll name driver, config file UniDrvUI.dll and driver version 6.00. Ever run HP Update, Print & Scan doctor and confirmed the new firmware.

  Thanks for the tips. I had one of my guys call the support company and he now works correctly with the driver Deskjet 6980. I seems a little slower, but works perfectly for us. I think that the phone call was more than 2 hours.

  Adobe Reader does not install a pdf printer. The full version of Adobe Acrobat'd.

  Word has its own pdf creator. It is found under file > export.

  Suggestions:

  1 do a system restore. Choice of date where you did NOT have this problem as your restore point.
  Start button > Search box, type system restore > press the Enter key > uac prompt > click on choose a different restore point > next > select dates as your restore point, until the click > next > finish
  To sit and wait. The machine restarts when it's done.

  2 use this tutorial and rebuild your cache of icons: use Option. Easier.
