The desktop icon question
When I refresh my desktop or restart my computer, all the icons on my desktop are moving to the left. I drag them back where I want to, and the next time that I reboot, they are to the left. Running MS XP on this computer.
How can I fix them in place?
HelloI suggest you to change the Auto settings fix the registry.Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:322756 how to back up and restore the registry in Windowsa. click on Start and then run.b. type regedit and press to enter.c. navigate to the following key.HKEY_USERS\. Every thing seems to have returned to normal, but when I restarted my computer all the icons on my desktop and all programs in the start menu disappeared, and yet, all programs are always in: Control Panel > add/REMOVE programs. I can still connect to the internet by going to-Start > my computer > view > go to the desktop. How to get back all the icons on my desktop. I tried a click right, but in vain. I also ran a scan complete antivirus. any help would be appreciated.
Thank you Joel S. Before I could put your advice into practice a friend recommended a friend who advised me to do a system restore, which he said he would be happy to do it for me. So look like an easy option, I agreed. It seems to have solved the problem (fingers crossed), but now it seems that I need to format the hard drive. If you have any tips on formatting hard drive I'm all ears. Thank you Owen

I can't move the icons on my desktop by dragging them (I use to be able to) how correct them where I can move them again (I can't delete them either?)
Hello
Thanks for posting this question in the Microsoft Community.
If I understand correctly, you are not able to drag icons on the desktop. I'll certainly try and help you in the matter of fixing.
To help you to propose measures to solve the problem, I would appreciate if you could answer the following questions:
1. Since when are you facing the issue?
2. you have any security program installed on the computer?
3. what happens when you try to remove the icons?
4. do you get an error message?
5. are you aware of any changes made to the computer before the show?
Run a full scan using the Microsoft Safety Scanner and check for infections.
Note: there is a risk of data loss if all the files are infected and which can be removed in the cleaning process.
If the problem persists, start the computer in safe mode and perform a clean boot. Clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
Note: when you are finished troubleshooting, follow step 3, mentioned in the article to start the computer to a normal startup.
Hope this helps and let us know if you need more assistance. We will be happy to help.
