Some tools Anti Virus 'protect' your system so that they will not allow a restore of the system work properly.
For example, if you use Norton/Symantec products, you will see a message like this:
Restoration incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored...
It is also a popular Symantec problem (well, I'll be polite and call an "undocumented feature"...), they wrote an article about it:
According to what you use for malware protection, you may need to disable the product temporarily, do the system restore and then turn the products light up again when the system restore is complete.
Sometimes you need start your system in Mode safe and so that your protection programs are not running, and then do the system restore.  Tips from Microsoft in some of their articles that if the system restore does not restore your computer, start in Safe Mode, and then run the system restore.  It works for some configurations.
System Restore is sometimes so afflicted or Restore Points are suspicious, the best solution is to reinstall your system restore.  This will remove the old Restore Points, but sometimes it's the only way to fix a broken system restore.  You don't have to reinstall XP, only the part of system restore.
That can leave you with your problem of unspecified origin that you hope the system restore will fix (using a system restore is usually not equivalent to fixing the problem though).
Give these ideas some consideration if they apply to you.
Sometimes malicious will afflict your system restore to prevent you to find and remove malware.  It would much rather you trick into thinking that you need to repair or reinstall your XP when it is not necessary.

On my desktop XP 2.01GH with 512 MB of memory, 150GBdrive with space 11.1 GB used, creating a restore point takes 1 second to open. On my Vista laptop 2.1GH PC with 3GBmemory, 220 GB GB 60.5 disc, creating a restore point takes 3 minutes to open. I see other problems to users that it is quite fast but keeping in mind I am not getting any error messages or anything unusual happening, can someone please tell me why it should take 3 minutes Vista to open when XP takes 1 second? Would it be because of the higher space which need to be covered? If not, is there a way to speed up the Vista of 3 minutes?

I don't have a concrete answer except tell you what I did.
I had your situation several times and found out that if I did a cleanup of twilight and delete all except the most recent restore points, System Properties window would open much more quickly.

    Hello

    1. what exactly happens when you try to create a system restore point?

    2. you receive an error message when you create system restore point?

    3. what operating system is installed on the computer?

In the event that you use the Windows 7 operating system you can follow the steps below and check if the problem persists.

    Method 1:

    Step 1:

Locate the service associated with the restoration of the system or Volume Shadow Copy Service is started after the computer is restarted. This service can be stopped by some viruses as well, so you can try to run a scan of your computer.

    To check the service

    (a) click Start

    (b) in the start search box type Services

    (c) click on - RUN as ADMINISTRATOR

Check if the below mentioned services has mentioned State and type start.

    Shadow copy volume started Automatic\Manual

    Step 2:

Also check the dependency services that are required for the System Restore Service run.

To verify that double-click the service, and click the Dependencies tab.

This service must be started before the restore point is created automatically or manually.

    Method 2:

Try disabling the firewall and windows temporarily on the computer security software and then try to create a system restore point and check if that helps.

Follow the articles given below to change the settings for the firewall and security software settings

    Understanding Windows Firewall settings

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/Understanding-Windows-Firewall-settings

    Firewall: Frequently asked questions

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/firewall-frequently-asked-questions

    Disable the anti-virus software

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/disable-antivirus-software

    Note:

If you are able to perform the system restore after you disable the security software then you may have to contact the software publisher for the security software by disabling the firewall and security software is a potential threat to the security of the system.

  • Why Software Distribution 3.0 appears on my Microsoft (restore point) system restore almost every day?

original title: software distribution service 3.0

Why Software Distribution 3.0 appears on my Microsoft (restore point) system restore almost every day?  What is it?

The Software Distribution Service 3.0 Restore Point is created when new Microsoft updates are downloaded and installed.

Depending on the configuration of your system, the updates can be downloaded and installed automatically as we never see what is happening.

For example (this is what I usually see), if you use Microsoft Security Essentials and an update of MSE comes out every day, you can't "see" anything on your system to tell you about this, but when the ESM update is installed, a new called Restore Point "Software Distribution Service 3.0" will be created. "

If MSE gets several updates per day, you will see a new PR of 3.0 SDS created for each of them, so it would be possible to have several SDS 3.0 Restore Points per day.  Alternatively, you can have one for MSE and another for some other day.  Some days you won't see any SDS 3.0 created restore points.

Of course, there are other reasons, you might see a new SDS 3.0 Restore Point and you might be curious to know what is all just never one see you.

Among the technical support engineers Microsoft will surely be able to tell how to look at each new SDS 3.0 Restore Point you have and tell you how to determine exactly what was in this update of the Software Distribution (if you're curious).

The reason in question do not contain the required information may be because there is no incentive to enter the required information when you create a new question.

The odds on this planet someone reading "How to ask a question" before asking a question are extremely unlikely, therefore (if the forums wanted more useful), the forums Microsoft Answers would invite for information, when a new question is asked.

Even the discussion in the article "How to ask a question" is quite ridiculous that it does not describe the same basic information that should be in a new topic.

This gross oversight in the way the new positions are created in these forums in frustration results, guess, lost time and wasted cycles then message that this information is being collected.

  • Powers of laptop on but Vista doesn't come not after I tried to use the restore point?

My HP laptop running Vista had some performance issues (my husband has used it) he had begun to restart itself on a law on a regular basis in the middle of him to help, so I thought I would try to use a restore point to see if it would help.

He acted like he normally does to eat, but then it wouldn't start again. To be clear, the laptop turns on but does not boot to Windows. Windows error recovery screen turns on and gives the choice of Safe Mode, Mode safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt or start Windows normally Mode.

I have it turned back and tried to use it in each mode Safe Mode with command prompt because I don't know what to do if it came like that. Whenever I've tried these other settings I get tell screen... Loading Windows files... .you go really fast... system32 drivers start loading then nothing else to a blank with the cursor on it and then screen after awhile the screensaver out of lights but that's it.

I don't know much about fixing anything beyond using restore points, so I have no idea what to do.  Any help would be appreciated!

  • Internet Explorer cannot display the Web page - trying to restore as soon as possible a system restore point

I get Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage message on my cell phone.

I can get my desktop to connect to the internet, so it is not an ISP issue.  The laptop can see the router so it's not the question.

I ran the network diagnostic and that did nothing.  I call my ISP helpdesk and they said it was a known issue with Vista after last update.  Therefore, they suggested that I tried to do a system restore to an earlier point.

I tried to do this, but the system comes back and says that he did not work properly and gives an error unspecified as to why it did not work.

  • Trying to create a restore point, depriving me of administrator privileges

I had problems with my computer for months, and it comes from my computer get a virus. Fortunately, the virus has not caused huge problems, but she often closed my windows internet without any reason, among other things.

one of my friends said that restore the computer to the State it was before the virus took over. He said that research "System Restore" and then choosing a restore point it would bring to the way it was before the virus, and then he recommended update the computer to Windows 8.1, since I am currently on Windows 8.

I'm trying to choose the restore point, and the first thing that appears is a small window asking "do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer? I click 'Yes', and then the "System Properties" window appears. It gives me options click on 'system restore', 'configure' and 'create', but all 3 options are gray and I can't click on them because they say that they are all disabled by the system administrator. When I first encountered this, I've been on the standard account, so I switched it to an administrator. No change. So I created a new account just if I could put it to the administrator. Still no change.

I would really appreciate if someone could help me, it's really starting to p * ss me off, I am unable to make changes to my computer because it's telling me a minute that I am an administrator and then say I can't perform administrator functions even if I'm on the same freaking account.

You haven't said which OS has your laptop or which model is it. Create a Windows for Windows 7 or Vista repair disc, depending on which is installed.

Always start by trying to restore the operating system to perceive before even to consider so final option as a revaluation. The reasoning behind my statement is simple. An repair is non-destructive. An recovery is destructive and exterminates all what you had on your hard drive and start from scratch with no programs installed.
