idrac7 vs Dell OpenManage

Hello

  1. Of idrac7 on we can monitor each reflection without need to install OpenManage on server operating system?

  2. With idrac7 us have no advantage install OpenManage on server operating system?

  3. With idrac7, we can manage the storage with any kind of PERC?

Thank you

David Costa

  1. To iDRAC 7 and more you will have the ability to monitor and alert on all the material that is in a server. If you want the information available in the iDRAC of the operating system, you need to install iDRAC Service Module (ISM) or OpenManage Server Administrator (OMSA).
  2. Yes, you will get additional information, for example with the ISM you will get:
  3. Yes

  • Dell OpenManage, ESXi 5.1 & reconstruction of bays RAID online

I am owner of a Dell PowerEdge T420 with ESXi 5.1 installed and I was wondering if it is possible to rebuild a RAID array without having to restart the server.

I was under the assumption that the use of Dell OpenManage running on Windows Server together with the Dell OMSA VIB would allow management of virtual disks when the system is online.

I am able to see the State of health of the RAID via OpenManage arrays, but can't seem to perform management of tables.

I was mistaken in that assumption?

    Jmartincic,

You can simply reinstall the failed drive to start a regeneration. In the OMSA with ESXi graphical user interface, it's only a tool of surveillance. You cannot trigger something from him, although only with regard to the controller.

  • IBM Director is similar to DELL OpenManage?

    Hello

We use DELL and OpenManage Server for a few years.

We will use IBM X 3650 server to run the new ESXi host.  We would like to know if IBM Director is something similar to DELL OpenManage?   Wouldn't be a free download?

In OpenManage, it is necessary to install the agent on ESXi host and use OpenManage on a physical server to access these agents on ESXi host.  Since we don't have server IBM, how these agents on IBM server are accessible?

    Your opinion is requested.

    Thank you

IBM Director is free for the basic material followed (if the hardware is IBM).

From what I remember that the server software is free and each piece of the IBM of hardwre that you buy - includes a license for the control of internal agent server IBM Director software.

As said above for more sophisticated functions that there is an additional cost.

Most of the management will be through the IMM (term of IBM for DRAC / ILO).

You may be required to install some specific VIBs IBM or a custom of the ISO http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/x/os/vmware/esxi/

  • The Dell Openmanager on Esxi5 server administrator

    Guys,

I'm having problems installing software from Dell (Dell OpenManage Server Administrator) in one of our servers that use a VMWare Esxi 5.0 operating system

Dell OpenManage is a software management that allows a proactive monitoring, diagnostics, and notifications on the server hardware.

I'm following the procedure indicated by the Dell documentation:
    http://media.community.Dell.com/en/DTC/attach/omsa6.5%20For%20esxi5_kb.PDF
starting on page 13 (installation of Server Administrator for ESXi).

In the manual, we have 2 ways to do this:

    1. using the vSphere CLI

After it we have this result:

    C:\Program VMware vSphere CLI > esxcli - Server x.x.x.x vib software install/var/log/vmware/Dell_ d

    OpenManage_ESXi_OM650-offline_bundle - 467660.zip
    Enter the user name: root
    Enter password: *.
    Result of the installation
    Message: host is not changed.
    Restart required: false

    VIBs installed:
    VIBs deleted:
    VIBs skipped: Dell_bootbank_OpenManage_6.5 - 0000

    No changes were made.

2 - using the VMware vSphere Management Assistant

Again, we have the same result:

    Enter the user name: root
    Enter password: *.
    Result of the installation
    Message: host is not changed.
    Restart required: false

    VIBs installed:
    VIBs deleted:
    VIBs skipped: Dell_bootbank_OpenManage_6.5 - 0000

Anyone has any idea on what could prevent installation VIB? Attached is the installation package.

    Hello

Please check out the original VIb file and you'll get another VIB file inside by the name Dell_OpenManage_ESXi500_OM700-offline_bundle - 643291.zip.

    Using the vSphere CLI

    1 copy the Dell_OpenManage_ESXi500_OM700 - offline_bundle - 643291.zip
    file to the var/log/vmware/Dell_OpenManage_ESXi500_OM700-offline_bundle-643291.zip.

2 close all comments on the ESXi host operating systems and run the ESXi
    host in maintenance mode.

    3. If you are using Windows, go to the directory where the vSphere CLI
utilities is installed and run the above command
    to step 4.
If you are using vSphere CLI on Linux, run the command in step 4 of
    any directory.

    4. run the following command:
    esxcli - Server
    install software vib d/var/log/vmware /.<>
    OpenManage file >

    5. type the username root and the password of the ESXi host when you are prompted.
The output of the command shows a successful update.

    6. restart the ESXi host system.

Use software esxcli software esxcli or get vib vib list to confirm the installation.

  • Dell Openmanage 6.1 reports SCSI errors in the console, what do mean?

We have installed 2 new Dell servers with VMWare ESX 4 and also installed Dell Openmanage 6.1. So far so good, dell openmanage seems to work very well, we get not errors in starting services. But we get strange message (see screenshot) every two seconds the kernel in the console, including reffer a sort of sici device. Does anyone know what this message is about and how get rid of?

    Thank you.

Looks like you are having the same problem I had with of my new race ESX 4 and Openmanage 6.1 R710. I found myself by opening a ticket with Dell and they came back and said that there was a problem with the inventory collector. Specifically, I think it has something to do with the FCAC as I recall the conversation.

They do the following and it solved the problem. Oh and put the host in just in case maintenance mode.

    CD/opt/dell/srvadmin/cm/invcol

    MV invcol invcol.bak

    srvadmin - services.sh reboot

At the time, Dell had a tentative date of update OpenManage to solve the problem.

  • Dell OpenManage Server Administrator 6.0.3 and ESXi 4

I try to install Dell OpenManage Server Administrator version 6.0.3. I managed to install this sub ESXi 3.5 update 4. It says in the instructions activate OEM CIM providers by setting Misc.CimOemProvidersEnabled to 1. Misc.CimOemProvidersEnabled is supposed to be located under various advanced however, ESXi 4 is not. Anyone know where the moved the option or y at - it a new way to activate this feature with ESXi 4?

You do not install agents on ESXi directly, they will come in the injected code of VMware/Dell as a variant of ESXi.  Indeed they are not installable on ESXi end-user.  HP already has similar variant for ESXi 3.5.  But to my knowledge, no hardware vendor has ESXi 4 variants yet out.

  • ESX 4 and IPMI / Dell OpenManage Server Administrator

Does anyone else use the Dell OpenManage Server Administrator software on their ESX host?

I do a cleaning/new ESX 4 installation on a Dell PowerEdge R900 server.  I installed the OMSA without error, but when you try to start the service, you get a "driver ipmi departure: "message. "  The web interface is running, but he tells no hardware information.

She acts as IPMI is not installed at all, but shows an RPM query:

    VMware-ESX-drivers-IPMI-IPMI-si-DRV-400.39.1vmw-1.0.4.164009

    srvadmin-ipmi - 5.5.0 - 364.DUP (appears after you run the install OMSA)

I tried to install using the srvadmin script OpenIPMI - openipmi.sh and get:

Status: OpenIPMI driver Module is not loaded in the kernel.
Recommended action: If OpenIPMI modules are available on the system.
Run "modprobe' command to add the kernel modules.

    I looked in ' / lib/modules/2.6.18-128.ESX/kernel/drivers/ ' for a modprobe IPMI driver, but can't find.

ANBODY have any ideas on where to go from here?

We have confirmed with Dell a few months previously, 6.0.3 required for ESX 4 classic, due out within 30 days of the release of GA of ESX 4 classic.  So I'd wait for 6.0.3 unless it is already available.  Dell said that they expected to be interrupted as soon as GA.

  • Installation of Dell OpenManage on ESX 3.5 update 3

    According to this article:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1003459

There's a patch to install before installing Dell OpenManage.  The document refers to ESX 3.5, and 3.5 update 3.  So I wonder if I still need to apply this patch before installing Dell OpenManage.  We will install OpenManage 5.5 on a PowerEdge 2950 III Server v.

    Thank you

You don't need this patch if you use update 3. (You should not this patch if you use the update 1 or later). VMware in general roles until all of the fixes in the next update.

You can also view this document, calling the patch only for 3.5. http://support.Dell.com/support/eDOCS/software/eslvmwre/Systems_Mngmnt/ESX_OM/HTML/OM.htm (table 2-1)
