iMac slow start was fast

My iMac, with 1 disk of merger to, was very quick to open the OS since multinational April 2015, then suddenly became very very slow to open recently.  For example the Apple logo appears in a few seconds and the load in a few seconds more.  Now the Apple logo minutes to load.

Latest version of the OS is 10.10.5.  It's 3.1 GHz Intel Core I7 processor.  The memory is 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.

No idea why the slow start happening?  Any suggestion would be appreciated.

If you put expensive RAM and/or incorrect RAM then Yes. iMacs are very sensitive to the RAM and you must use quality RAM, more experienced on these forums users use OWC (www.macsales.com) or critical (direct purchase). RAM should also be installed in pairs. If you purchased anything else, then after a report of EtreCheck of your system and we can look for obvious problems.

    Hello

There are a number of possible reasons, your computer may run slowly - virus infection or malware, missing to defragment the hard drive, too many programs loading at startup - and all with different causes / solutions. So here goes:

Virus/Malware - Download, install and run these scanners (only Avast so you do not have your own antivirus installed):

    Malwarebytes': http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html .

    SuperAntiSpyware: http://download.cnet.com/SuperAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10523889.html .

    Avast Antivirus: http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.html .

Disk Defragging - install and run this app: http://download.cnet.com/Auslogics-Disk-Defrag/3000-2094_4-10567503.html .

Startup programs - install this application, then select start only the programs you need to run at startup, as your antivirus, firewall, but not your Disk Defragmenter (examples):

    Splash Guard: http://download.cnet.com/Startup-Guard/3000-2239_4-10958203.html.

Also, your system's drivers are up-to-date? Updated the driver can also slow down your system. Go to HP.com and insert the complete your laptop model number in the search box to find your latest drivers.

Let me know if these speed up your pc.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite A300-1MV slow slow start-up and ongoing execution place

I recently bought a Satellite A300-1 mV it runs vista,.
I have the trial running Mcafee and other preinstalled software that came on the phone. My problem is that the startup of the computer seems to take a ridiculous amount of time to start, once past the ORB of vista, that it says please wait which lasts about a minute until the password request is displayed.

I had a quick glance in the problemreports in the Panel and concluded that the program of toshiba tempro was hung up at startup so disabled but doesn't seem to have any effect, I also find that when for example you double-click a photo thumbnail to view it, it takes about 30 seconds to appear on the fullscreen allthough, the window appears on the start menu to the low allmost bar immediately.

I defragmented the hard drive, scandisk, memory checking, virus check etc... I compared it to a friends laptop dell which has less memory, but the same processor spec and vista and that seems to work 10 times faster... any ideas?, I wonder if it is a program of toshiba at the origin of the problem.

However, I have a problem with acrobat reader from opening on its own and telling me it can't read the file (do not know what file)

I uninstalled it and reinstalled but still have the same question...! Help!

    Hello

Very nice thread on slow start up you will find under http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=134947

To be honest I don't like McAfee and I installed other antivirus applications that needs far more resources. Please read this interesting thread and let me know what do you think about this.

  • Slow start almost nine SL510! :(((

I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad SL510 laptop brand a few weeks again. Out of the box, he started up and run EXTREMELY fast & there was no problems. The only problem was that them were not "Lenovo/Thinjkpad' drivers such as hotkeys etc so I had to track, who was not a big deal. Apparently at random the computer now has started a strange process at startup. Directly after that the image of "thinkvantage access" Lenovo appears after you press the power button, a command line comes with the white screen and command prompt flashes for about 60 seconds. Maybe a little more or less, but of course it feels like eternity. It is never used to do this. After starting the computer quickly starts and runs and works as usual with no noticeable change in performance. The computer does a cold start but also a restart. I crossed and uninstalled and reinstalled all the drivers that I read in another post that might help. This does not alleviate the problem and I hope someone more knowledgeable than me can help. I read that a Windows repair installation could help, but as I am new to Windows 7 via this computer I prefer not unless necessary (I'm still a mentality XP lol, the new user interface is always sticking with me , so I did not to I would try all other options first.) Thank you very much for your time and help!

The solution: after I made my "recovery disc" I left it in the drive and it comes to the issue with slow start, as he was reading the disc (late I know I left it in the drive). Sounds was this: right click on the volume icon, open "volume control" options, under audio devices, check the box with the speakers. I don't know if this is checked in the ever and the speakers worked in any case, or if mode 'sleep' unchecked it. But since I checked it no problem sleeping and my laptop just had a good hour 10 sleep lol XD. Thank you SO much for all help I really appreciate it. I know that in my Google search others had similar problems so I hope it helps others in need.u

  • Very slow start and run for Dell Inspiron 6400 XP times

"I have a problem with an Inspiron 6400 brought to ' horribly slow start and run time.  XP Pro 32 bit SP3 patched up to date.  Cleaned up a lot of "undesirable", as the partially uninstalled programs, cleaned the files temporary etc. with CCleaner, cleaned and optimized the registry afer all the cleaning has been done, defragmented, tried to start without any of the boot files, disabled all unnecessary services and uninstalled virus checking software, (but ran several anti-virus controls) etc. - no help.   Safe Start Mode is faster, but... not at all normal - 1 1/2 minutes of screen to logon instead of close to 3 minutes.  A lot of memory (2 GB), which rises to 600 to 700 MB runnng all the stuff I've tried.  Hard drive is 1/3 used out of 120 GB with a 2 GB swap file.

One thing I'm still scratching my head over - beyond the horribly slow boot - is very slow access to files even though everything seems to work normally, but as molasses in January.  Looking at the performance of the Task Manager tab when I run a copy of a file (whether via a cmd window or with Windows Explorer), I see a near max processor would be and the other with a small business.  Even if the customer says he had been getting worse for some time, after checking and cleaning of all things 'normal', my next thought was perhaps a bad disk or disk controller driver, but chkdsk ran very well (although it took hours) even if I ' d I have already updated all drivers (and even the DVD firmware and BIOS) on the Dell web site.  Oh, and I ran Dell Diagnostics (from bootable CD) updates all with no errors found.  And access to the slow file even with symptoms had max-processor occur with a copy of the file on a USB key that seems to eliminiate the hard disk, the disk controller and the pilot.

The other interesting part of the display for a file copy task manager is that the processes tab simply shows System Idle 97 to 99%, with a percentage of casual for other processes as Explorer while I see 1 max out procesor on the performance tab.  That the same copy on your desktop shows 3-4% of the CPU usage and who is with active antivirus software.  I'm almost ready to fall toward a Windows reinstall, but would like to find the real reason behind this problem of puzzle...

It of almost as if he's using PIO instead of DMA disk access, but... don't know how/where to test this.

    Look at:
    and

Solved!   Thanks for the links, especially to each other.  An old but still a goodie!

For those who have enquring spirits (and anyone else who stumbles across this thread), the primary IDE controller has been set to PIO and locked it.  Who would have thought that Windows slowly reduced the transfer speed, whenever he saw 6 errors on an IDE device until it has been reduced to PIO and then he locked it?  But the procedures described in the link of winhlp.com showed how to solve the problem.

There are actually several problems that led to the final symptoms.  According to KB817472, the Atapi.sys has been improved in XP SP2 only degrade the speed of transfer on 6 consecutive errors instead of 6 cumulative errors.  And even though everything I have (Microsoft update) was seen and showed that this area was to SP3, I found that the driver for the controller layer IDE was the SP2 version.  Someone ran sfc previously perhaps?

Oh, and I know now that the Task Manager process tab does not time processor kernal, but the performance tab.  Good to know...

Thanks again to all who have responded.  Starting at the time of connection-question now is 40 seconds.   You'll love Untra DMA mode 5.   There is still a lingering question in my mind, since I've had the same symptoms of slow copy of a file on a flash drive.  Perhaps a link in some way to the way that Windows treats a flashdrive as a "drive"...

  • Slow start, stop, ~ does not etc. Help!

I'll try and be as organized as possible.  If you think you know something that could help please let me know.  I really need my computer is working again!

    Problem:

For probably 9/26 my computer worked do everything very slowly.  It's strange to me because it happened all of a sudden and it's generally pretty fast.  I called Toshiba and see what they could do, they just said to do a system restore which has worked for a day and then he returned to its slowness.  It works all programs slowly, everything loads slowly, often Microsoftword said it does not respond as well as internet Explorer.  My internet has been fast is now has slowed down a bit...

    My Info to the computer:

    Toshiba Satellite L305D
    3.00 GB RAM
    80% free space in memory
    Windows Vista Edition Home Premium
    Almost 1 year.

If you need me to tell you anything about it or just ask.  I would really like to find a solution to this.

    What's new

Good, then, a classmate and I have discussed the issue and I told them I don't think it was malware because I have two installed anti-virus software.  McFee and trend.  They told me that it is bad to have 2 because apparently, the programs will be fight between them?  So I uninstalled McFee, for now and simply tend.  Which fixed the problem immediately.  Now my computer works normally.

Another friend is always worried that it might be a virus?  Any suggestions?  My programs pick up nothing, so not sure?

Go to control panel > Performance information > advanced tools (left column). If you look up a few lines under performance issues, this will tell you if Windows knows what is causing slow starts and stops. If there's nothing there, you most likely have been affected by malicious software...

    Run these:

    Malwarebytes - http://malwarebytes.org

    SuperAntispyware - http://download.cnet.com/SuperAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10523889.html

  • Satellite X 200 - 25i - slow start on

    Hello

This cute portable X 200 - 25i and everything you've just bought a few weeks ago works great. But I just realised, it this slow start. It will take about 3 minutes to load all the software, and I did install something special... everything is factory shipped Vista, antivirus software for my mouse logitech...

I also replaced a disk, what WD 320, and the first with the OS is the original...

    Any help? Any ideas?

    Thank you all very much...

    Hello

My notebook booted up like a turtle. Do you know why?
Because many applications have been installed in the autostart folder or in the registry, run entry and this affected the start-up procedure.
I had Norton Antivirus installed and loaded always at the beginning.

I read that this software needs of too many resources and slows down the performance of the laptops.
I removed and instead of Norton, I use another program called Antivir antivirus.
It s freeware and my notebooks starts much faster than with preinstalled Symantec Norton Antivirus.

I recommend also using a small tool called CCleaner.
It repairs the registry of the operating system and remove all garbage and junk of the system.
    It s really nice

  • Satellite Pro - Slow start up and sound is messed up

I had my * Toshiba Satellite Pro * with * Windows XP * for a good few years now. She has always worked like a gem and only gave me no problems until a few weeks ago.

A few weeks ago I was downloading a program and with it the virus 'Antivir Solutions' very undesirable and unliked. I've done everything I can to get rid of this disaster (with the help of the support forums) and I think that I managed to get rid of it, but since my computer has not been the same.

I had trouble downloading a PDF document, a few days ago and it froze so I tried to restart that caused the computer to have a hissing fit, remove my user account which meant I had to configure everything again from scratch. And, now, the computer takes a good 45 minutes from the moment you press the button "ON" when it is ready to start working. Not to mention, it takes a good 10 minutes every time you click on an icon for the program to start actually...

I tried to defrag the system and you have tried to uninstall unused programs to speed up the computer, but it did not work.
I also ran several anti-virus (e.g. Norton, AVG, Microsoft Security Essentials) to make sure that I don't have wicked not spoil me, but they come clean.

May I also add the sound is messed up also. If I use the built-in speakers or external speakers, the sound is disjoint and broken. Like any video I have play.

I don't know what to do.
I can't really afford a new computer, but I need my computer to be reliable. I use my computer for 12 of the 24 hours a day...
    * What can I do? *

    Hi nicoletrist,

I put t know what laptop you have exactly, but I think that the slow start Windows is caused due to viruses you have or had.
A few years ago I also had a virus and it was causing a very slow start to the top, he did take up to 10 minutes until Windows has been loaded and the only solution to get rid of this used Toshiba recovery disc.

I would like to recommend you. Use the Toshiba Recovery disk to restore to factory settings and save your data, because everything on the HARD drive will be erased.
I'm sure after using the laptop recovery disk will work like a charm again! :)

  • Satellite U400 - color of the shell of edges and slow start of the housing

    Hi all

Just bought a Satellite U400-15B and am loving the laptop itself but have the following two issues.

First of all, regarding the case I noticed that on the edge of the high gloss base (where he meets the not shiny black plastic bottom) the paint is already peeling.

It is mainly about above the left USB port, CD drive in Rabat and at the rear above the battery (only visible when the lid is closed). It is very minor and is only visible when looked at her carefully, but obviously I paid a lot for this so do not want to look all worn in a few months. Someone at - it? I took a look at a few display models and its mixed, some are worn in areas similar some are perfect. I would like to exchange it, but I'm afraid that the replacement can be another problem like a dead pixel or may have the same problem only worse?

Second, I noticed that my laptop takes a long time to start compared to my old Toshiba A200 which also runs Vista. I removed a lot of bloatware and the Toshiba TEMPRO, which I heard is also causing problems, but I still have this problem. It seems to start fine until the Vista logo screen then it takes awhile, while displaying "Please wait".

Anyone has any ideas on this?

    Hello MrAK

If the laptop is brand new and you have a few days only I recommend you contact your dealer as soon as possible and. Talk with them and explain that you don't want to have replacement with dead Pixel or something like that. I hope they will understand you and help get new but 100% good laptop.

Slow start is discussed several times. I have Satellite A300 and commissioning was horrible, but now, after a slight modification it starts after only 1.5 minutes.

Any advice? Gather the HDD0 and space of two disks will be more fast laptop?

It s 2 GHz speed and 2 GB memory.
    Thank you

    Hey Buddy

You slow startup and startup has nothing to do with the HARD drive space.
Your laptop could start slowly, due to a large amount of processes that run in the context of the operating system!

What you could do, is first the msconfig and disable unnecessary applications in the Startup tab.

Use some applications cleaning CCLeaner (tool free) i.e. to clean the operating system and the registry. Last but least could not defragment the HARD disk to improve performance.

  • Satellite A100 - Questions about slow start, not in the DMA mode CD drivers

    Hi all

as you can see I have 3 questions:

    1. my Satellite A100-153 starts very slowly (current running avira antivir and sunbelt pfw only like on my other laptop which is older than this one, but not slow start)-anyone has any idea why (I would be very gratefull because I don't have reinstall win and all my stuff)?

2 Nero tells me that my CD is not running in DMA mode - where can I check and fix this?

    3. drivers - am I forced the drivers supported on this site or can I use the drivers directly from the manufacturer (ATI for my graphics card, Intel for my chipset realtek for my sound and so on)?

    Help is welcome!

    Hello

For me, it will be interesting to know what operating system you are using. Anyway, I'll try to give my short opinion on your questions:

-many other factors may be responsible for slow start. It is usually the OS configuration. I'll try to find an interesting article, how to make faster starting and I will post it here for you.

--entrer enter in the device IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers Manager, enter the properties for secondary IDE chanel and open the Advanced Settings tab. Is under transfer mode DMA if available? If this isn't the case, set it to please and after reboot check if the problem persists. DMA if available is usually defined as a default value.

-In general, you can use it but it is well known that manufacturers of graphics card don't support mobile graphics cards and laptop manufacturers are responsible for.

I recommend you to use the Toshiba drivers only. All of these drivers are put to the test.

    Good bye

  • Satellite L550 - system slow start

    Hi people!

Got a new Satellite L550 running Vista 32 - bit, everything seems fine except for a few things on this machine that goes like this:

1 system restore is one hell of a long process I have ever met so far-time is gasoline and 17 GB of restore disks its really a whopper!
    2. If you have any trouble with the 'text leap' (when entering) so I have. Sound the Alps Touchpad I found must be configured (by disabling the tapping) that's if you can find the tab 'Advanced' in the properties of the mouse
    3. I tweaked my startup programs, but this machine, of course, happens to a slow start. Any help here

Otherwise a pleasure to have abandoned another manufacturing in favor of elegant, intelligent Toshiba laptop and hopes that its evidence switch!

    Hello

I had a problem of cursor jump as well, but that was my mistake... I touched the touchpad accidentally during typing...
I could solve this problem by disabling the touch pad using the FN + F9 key combination.

PS; You have the latest version of the BIOS? Isn't it? Then update.

  • Satellite L300-1AQ - slow start

I bought one of these a few weeks ago. It takes more than three minutes to boot to the full desktop, I think that it is very poor. A friend has a non-Toshiba, which has a lower spec and it takes a minute. My son (even more low spec) Toshiba takes 1.5 minutes. I've already exchanged this laptop, but the alternative is just as bad - same again without installing any additional software. I contacted the assistance service, but they do not have much help telling me to use MSCONFIG and Google apps could be disabled - I've tried a few, but it made no difference. Most of the time is spent with a screen 'Please wait '.

In my opinion a core 2 processor (T5800) with 2 GB of RAM it not delay it. If I can't get help from Toshiba or here then I will get a refund on this machine - much as I otherwise it - only 3 minutes to the loan is completely unacceptable, especially when it is lower spec machines are so much faster.

    Hello

Many people here on this forum have reported the same. My answer is that you need optimal configuration of the operating system. If you have time, please take a look at thread
http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=134947 where I described my experience with slow start.

Please don't be confused because I write any other laptop model. In general this slow start is not mobile specific problem.
