iMac slow start caused by the spotlight?

For some reason, my iMac i5 2013 end has always been slow to start (at least as long as I can remember).  its quick access through the actual boot process but, once I connect to my profile, there are about 5-7 minutes to load and become usable.

  • I tried to make another profile and started in to confirm that it was my profile.  It is exclusive to my profile.  very good start.
  • I reformatted my mac and reinstalled OS X and recreated my profile.  Problem comes back in a month or two.
  • Took a look in the system log and found that his 'looks like' spotlight is very slow on this topic for some reason any.  I turn off the projector and the question is basically gone!  This feels like dressing difficulty however, no idea what continues?

Here is the log from BEFORE I turned off the projector: it won't let me post the log because of his characters... but here is a screenshot of the suspicious party...

  • Satellite A100 - Questions about slow start, not in the DMA mode CD drivers

    Hi all

as you can see I have 3 questions:

    1. my Satellite A100-153 starts very slowly (current running avira antivir and sunbelt pfw only like on my other laptop which is older than this one, but not slow start)-anyone has any idea why (I would be very gratefull because I don't have reinstall win and all my stuff)?

2 Nero tells me that my CD is not running in DMA mode - where can I check and fix this?

    3. drivers - am I forced the drivers supported on this site or can I use the drivers directly from the manufacturer (ATI for my graphics card, Intel for my chipset realtek for my sound and so on)?

    Help is welcome!

    Hello

For me, it will be interesting to know what operating system you are using. Anyway, I'll try to give my short opinion on your questions:

-many other factors may be responsible for slow start. It is usually the OS configuration. I'll try to find an interesting article, how to make faster starting and I will post it here for you.

--entrer enter in the device IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers Manager, enter the properties for secondary IDE chanel and open the Advanced Settings tab. Is under transfer mode DMA if available? If this isn't the case, set it to please and after reboot check if the problem persists. DMA if available is usually defined as a default value.

-In general, you can use it but it is well known that manufacturers of graphics card don't support mobile graphics cards and laptop manufacturers are responsible for.

I recommend you to use the Toshiba drivers only. All of these drivers are put to the test.

I myself (yesterday, successfully) moved my hp5520e to a STATIC IP (dynamic ip previously) address simply because dhcp-router-use by other devices & users wanted I had to run the utility 'Update ip address' too often for my taste.

And today I started noticing a POSSIBLE SECONDARY EFFECT of this change, namely that there now seems to be a "silence relics" after clicking "Print" in any application - to which sometimes feels like 20 seconds before something happens.

  • my laptop is slow start!

Hi my laptop which has windows xp of slow start and may take about 3omins you load a screen all the programs an icons on my desktop. I used prior winows of care to scan my laptop own an also used iobit smart defrag, but it is still slow. I also removed a lot of used programs. I also used my mcafee security software to scan virus ect but it is still slow. can anyone help?

    Thanks Adam

    Try scanning preforming using http://www.malwarebytes.org/

    and

    http://www.systweak.com/AntiSpyware/download/

    or

    http://www.lavasoft.com/

    or

    Spybot Search and destroy

then use spywareblaster to protect your pc and firefox as browser. for firefox use mcafee siteadviser and adblockplus and no scripts to increase your security.

I would you recommend using avast for the best time of the boot (it's what I think)

Try preformaing disk cleanup and disk défragmentent using windows one.

minimize your startup programs using msconfig (just type it run in)

Make sure that your windows is up to date as well as pilots. Find disk errors and preform scannow sfc.

Try using msconfig clean boot preforming, clear all your startup programs and no windows services, and then restart see if it makes a difference, if it then allowed the u off to see which one is initially slow start. If the clean boot did not help then steps above should solve the problem.

Use ccleaner to clean the junk files on your pc. It can also speed up your pc.

If you put expensive RAM and/or incorrect RAM then Yes. iMacs are very sensitive to the RAM and you must use quality RAM, more experienced on these forums users use OWC (www.macsales.com) or critical (direct purchase). RAM should also be installed in pairs. If you purchased anything else, then after a report of EtreCheck of your system and we can look for obvious problems.

  • Satellite U400 - color of the shell of edges and slow start of the housing

    Hi all

Just bought a Satellite U400-15B and am loving the laptop itself but have the following two issues.

First of all, regarding the case I noticed that on the edge of the high gloss base (where he meets the not shiny black plastic bottom) the paint is already peeling.

It is mainly about above the left USB port, CD drive in Rabat and at the rear above the battery (only visible when the lid is closed). It is very minor and is only visible when looked at her carefully, but obviously I paid a lot for this so do not want to look all worn in a few months. Someone at - it? I took a look at a few display models and its mixed, some are worn in areas similar some are perfect. I would like to exchange it, but I'm afraid that the replacement can be another problem like a dead pixel or may have the same problem only worse?

Second, I noticed that my laptop takes a long time to start compared to my old Toshiba A200 which also runs Vista. I removed a lot of bloatware and the Toshiba TEMPRO, which I heard is also causing problems, but I still have this problem. It seems to start fine until the Vista logo screen then it takes awhile, while displaying "Please wait".

Anyone has any ideas on this?

    Hello MrAK

If the laptop is brand new and you have a few days only I recommend you contact your dealer as soon as possible and. Talk with them and explain that you don't want to have replacement with dead Pixel or something like that. I hope they will understand you and help get new but 100% good laptop.

Slow start is discussed several times. I have Satellite A300 and commissioning was horrible, but now, after a slight modification it starts after only 1.5 minutes.

  • Starting problem with the gray screen on iMac

    Hello everyone

I'm a bit puzzled with a problem I'm having with my iMac 27 "a model late 2009, bought in early 2010, I had built at the time with 8 GB ram, 2 TB HD and fastest i7 Quad core processor available at the time.

I'm running El Capitan, and all wise OS is perfectly up to date.

The other week, after a systematic restart, I have a gray screen and little else.  Another reboot and everything was "normal", so I did not concern me unduly.

Today, after that the Mac had been idle for a time during a call, the screen fell asleep as usual (I do not SLEEP the computer itself), but during his return and touch the SPACEBAR and key "ESC", the screen remains black.

So I made a forced shutdown and restart.

I get the screen gray and normal startup (no other sounds) chime followed by the apple logo and the startup progress bar.  He gets to halfway through the long, and then instead of bring to the top of the login page, it's just going to a gray screen Uni.

So I restarted in safe mode, OK and ran disk utility a couple of times - at the first crossing, he noted, there a problem with the map of partition which can cause problems starting, but on the second passes and the following, everything has been noted to be OK - and the SMART status of disk has been verified.

After a reboot - the same question as above - of carillon, gray screen with the apple logo, progress bar and then just a gray screen.  I did another secure boot and re-run of disk utility, rebooted into recovery mode and run disk utility.  And again, no problems reported.

Another reboot and the issue was always there.

So this time I rebooted into recovery again mode and downloaded a new installation of El Capitan.

Unfortunately, there is no set - it is always start on a gray screen after the startup chime, the apple logo and progress bar.

I have also removed all my account account startup items and disconnected all USB devices.

I'm a bit lost for what to do next to be honest!

Is there anything else I can do software wise, at home, or is it time for the repair material re shop perhaps?

Thank you very much for your words of wisdom and support

    Kind regards

    John... :-)

    John here again: :-)

Just a quick update which may help to determine what the problem is: I restarted in safe mode, after the reinstallation of the operating system was unable to initialize properly - grey screen again.

However, as I have a home network, I found that I can not connect on the network with my MacBook Pro to the iMac, see all my files user on the iMac and even copy them across to the MacBook Pro with no problems.

Everything on the iMac is saved via Time Machine on a Western Digital Firewire HD 3to.

I also have uncompressed manual 'straight' copies of my music, movies, documents folders, etc, for an old time Capsule, currently acting as a bridge to my ethernet network wireless, and provide additional backup for those critical files - my music for example is ripped 350 odd CD, all legally purchased in ALAC on iTunes on the iMac - which represents a couple of months of work... lol... no way I want to lose that!

So I'm a bit of a loss.  Disk utility reported no problem with the drive... I can boot into safe mode and recovery, but normal mode 'mode '... I always get the chime, the screen with apple logo and progress of the gray bar, then goes to just a gray screen instead of the login page.

    Help!

My beloved Einstein had a hiccup!

All comments appreciated and thanks again - hope this extra info helps

    Kind regards

    John... :-)

Start in Safe Mode , and then repair your hard disk and permissions:

Fix the hard disk and permissions before Lion

Boot from your OS X install disk. After the installer loads, choose your language and click on the button continue. When the menu bar appears select utility drive in the Utilities menu. After that the charges of THE select your entry from hard drive (mfgr. (State SMART is not reported on external drives Firewire or USB). If the drive is "verified", then select your OS X volume in the list on the left (subentries under the entry for the road), click the first aid tab, then click the repair disk button. If THE reports any errors that have been corrected, and then run repair disk again until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, click repair permissions. Wait until the operation is complete, then exit FROM and return to the installer.

Wait until the operation is complete, then exit FROM and return to the main menu. Select restart from the Apple menu.

Restart your computer normally and see if it helped at all. Then do little maintenance:

For disk utility can't handle situations, the best third party is Disk Warriorutility;  Fixed DW only for problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by the corruption of directory; Warrior drive 4.x is now compatible with Intel Mac.

Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will boot Mac running Snow Leopard or earlier. He cannot start Mac that came with Lion or later preinstalled, however, DW will work on these models.

    Suggestions for OS X maintenance

OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are supposed to take place on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. Maintenance scripts that are run at the beginning AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep). If this isn't the case, then a great solution is to download and install a shareware like Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacronor Anacron utility that will automate the maintenance regardless of whether activity if the computer is off or asleep.  Dependence on third-party utilities to run periodic maintenance scripts has been significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have little or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later version, and must not be installed.

OS X automatically defrags files smaller than 20 MB in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files it little need to defragment the hard drive.

Under no circumstances should you install operating MacPaw or ZeoBit software (CleanMyMac/CleanMyDrive or Mac Keeper, respectively.) You don't need special software to keep your computer.

Common pop - ups include a message saying that the Government has taken over your computer and you pay release (often called "Moneypak"), or a false message saying that your computer has been infected and you need to call a number of tech support (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it to be resolved. First of all, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and that your computer has not been assigned. This "hack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so don't pay not money, call number, or provide personal information. This article will give an overview of the solution to remove the pop-up window.

    Quit Safari

Usually, these pop-ups will not go by clicking 'OK' or 'Cancel '. In addition, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in grey, including the option to leave Safari. You'll probably force quit Safari. To do this, press command + option + ESC, select Safari, press on force quit.

    Relaunch Safari

If you restart Safari, the page will reopen. To avoid this, hold the "Shift" key when opening Safari. This will prevent windows since the last time that Safari was running since the reopening.

It will not work in all cases. The SHIFT key must be maintained at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window is displayed again. In these circumstances, after force quit Safari, turn off Wi - Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then restart Safari normally. He'll try to reload the malicious Web page, but without a connection, it will not be able to. Leave this page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com and try to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet and the page that you entered is displayed rather than the malicious.

    1. There is no anti-malware software can detect 100% of malware out there.

    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect all targeting the Mac.

    3. the best way to prevent breaches the most is for you as the user is aware that

the most successful malware attacks rely on sophisticated social engineering

techniques preying on human greed, * and fear.

4 Internet pop-up windows telling the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on

your computer is designed to trick you into installing their malware thinking it's a

    protection against malware.

    5. some of the anti-malware market products are worse than malware

go where they are supposed to protect you.

    6. be careful where you go on the internet.

    7. don't download anything from sites, you know are safe.

8 avoid links that you receive in email, always be wary, even if you get something

you think a friend is, but that you did not expect.

    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume that it is malware.

    Troubleshooting Applications

I recommend that you download a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaneror hiding a Cocktail that you can use to delete the former newspapers and archives, cleaning, etc. Corrupted cache, logs or temporary files can slow down the application or OS X crashes and panics of the kernel.

If you have leopard snow or leopard, then for similar repairs install Applejackfreeware utility.  If you do not start in OS X, you can boot into single-user mode , where you can run Applejack to make a set of routines for repair and maintenance of the command line.  Note that it takes 1.5 AppleJack for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later versions.

    Basic backup

For some people, Time Machine will be more than enough. Time Machine is part of Mac OS X. There are two components:

    1. a panel of Time Machine preferences as part of the system of preferences;

    2. a request for Time Machine, located in the Applications folder. It's

used to manage backups and restore backups. Time Machine

requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the

    drive being backed up.

You can also get an external drive at least equal to the size hard disk internal and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the disk utility's restore option. You can also create and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (the order is not significant):

    1 Carbon Copy clone

    2. get backup

    3 already seen

    4 superDuper!

    5. Synk Pro

    6. Tri-Backup

Visit The FAQ XLab and read the FAQ on the backup and restore.  Also read How to back up and restore your files. For using Time Machine, visit FAQ Time Machine of Pondini for help with all this time Machine.

    Additional tips

Make sure you have a sufficient amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run simultaneously. Make sure to leave a minimum of 10% of the capacity of the hard disk as free space.

Add more RAM. If your computer less than 2 GB of RAM and you use OS X Leopard or later, then you can do it with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion works much better with 4 GB of RAM that is their system. Most concurrent applications, that you tend to use the more RAM you should have.

Always have at least 15 GB, or 10% of the capacity of your hard disk as free space, the largest. OS X frequently accesses your hard disk, so offering enough free space will keep things slow down.

Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:

    Before Mavericks

Open the activity monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select all processes in the drop process .  Click the % CPU column heading twice to display in descending order.  If find you a process that uses a large amount of time processor (> = 70,) then select the process, and then click the quit icon in the toolbar.  Click the force quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Don't forget to mention the name of the runaway process, so you can find the cause of the problem.

    Mavericks and later versions

Open the activity monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select all processes in the menu display .  Click the CPU tab in the toolbar.

This problem occurs often because of a corrupted cache or the preferences file or an attempt to write in a corrupted log file.

  • Vista in conflict with security programs? Mega-slow start, ctrl-alt-delete = ' login process failed create the security options dialog»

    Hi all

Have a laptop HP here with heavy problems! After the connection, it slows right down until it takes at least 5 minutes just to open the start - menu it hangs just with the whirly-circle thing. If I do ctrl-alt-del, the screen goes black and after a few minutes, I get the message "Login failed create the security options dialog» The Task Manager does not open. I managed to slightly improve things by disabling the user account control (miserable thing anyway) - it's just too slow, but now the Task Manager opens about 50% of the time and the other 50%, I get the message a little more lively 'failure - security options '. If I leave the phone that it will sort itself out after about 45 minutes, after which it ends to load every startup process and behaves normally. If I boot in Safe Mode, all right. I also ran virus checks - no nasties - and there is nothing surprising in the event logs.

After an extensive search on Google, I have established that many people - all users of Vista, surprise, surprise - had the same problem, dating back years, pretty much when Vista is released. (This laptop is perhaps a year old). Some corrections were proposed, but the majority concluded that the deactivation of their safety programs, regardless of what they were, did the job. This laptop is running Windows Defender and TalkTalk Internet Security, provided by F-secure. Disable Windows Defender made a slight improvement in speed. Deactivation of TalkTalk Internet Security returned the laptop to normal operation. I strongly suspect a fundamental conflict between Vista programs and safety - that we must all know that Vista is rather prone to bugs - but why Microsoft hasn't issued a fix for this? I don't want to go around without security. Nor do I want to download a new program of security and have the same thing happen againn weeks down the line. Someone had the same problem or found a permanent solution for it? I am barking the wrong tree here? I'll try uninstalling a few recent Windows updates to see if any of those who triggered the hissing fit.

Okay, I think that I fixed it. I will post the solution for you all poor users of Vista with the same problem. Corrections of spare is located in the following Vista forum thread:

    Error-message-login-process-has-failed-Create-Security-Options-Dialog

So after that I've identified the cause was the Internet of TalkTalk security program, I did some messing around in msconfig and reduced to the function FSGKHS, alias F - Secure Gatekeeper Handler Starter. If I disabled this service, everything has worked, and if I booted up with no other process or running services to all others as the stuff of F-Secure (with the exception of group policies which I think is an essential service?), I had the same problem. Certainly FSGKHS. However, I did not know why. Everything I had was a vague notion that maybe it was a key to registry corrupt or something. I don't know why I even thought to this. And if I hate the registry cleaners, I couldn't think of any other way to identify registry problems. So I created a restore point and ran CCleaner. It came with a bunch of registry errors, but none of them were related to a F-Secure or files of TalkTalk. I told CCleaner to remove it anyway and booted up with FSGKHS running, just on the offchance. Whaddya know? He is cured. Don't know why, but it works perfectly normally from start to stop (fingers crossed). I know a lot of people have solved this problem by disabling their safety programs - maybe they had a corruption of the registry too? A kind of strange thing to register/security/Vista. Anyway, go try CCleaner before you reformat your drive hard peeps and let me know if this worked for you.
