IMAP synchronization by age

I have a question about sync settings. I have an account which has been downloaded all messages locally for 3 or 4 years. Now, I decided I would just keep the last 90 days. By changing this setting, it automatically purge the body of all old messages?

Now, say I discover a message 2 years ago and it downloads the body. The body will be get purged after judging that it?

Thanks in advance!

I see. I do not think that 'days of the most recent synchronization 'x' ' option will free the space of messages already downloaded or "synchronized" respectively.

So it would be useful only if you delete both the Inbox folders and Inbox.msf of your IMAP account when Thunderbird is closed. Upon restart, it would only download the body of the messages from the most recent 'x' days.

So you could free up space previously occupied by older messages, but it is a bit tedious. And local disk space shouldn't be a problem these days.

So what exactly you're trying to achieve?

  • How mass-move messages from IMAP folders to local folders?

I've got about 150 records on my account IMAP, most of them are distribution lists that I subscribe to and using filters, they are automatically transferred to their IMAP associated with arrival records. As I do not have unlimited storage on my IMAP server I got the same folders under local folders, and once from time to time, I propose all e-mails from IMAP folders in their associated under local folders folder. Needless to say that this is quite heavy and time consuming so I wonder if there is a better solution for this?

Is there a method / extension that can mass-move emails from X number of folders on my IMAP account to X number of files under local folders?

Synchronize your folders subscribed for a copy in thunderbird.
    Then go offline.
Highlight the emails that you want to move
    Notes;
To select all emails in folder.
Click on the first email to get the focus, then Ctrl + A

    To select a block:
Click on the first email to copy
Hold the SHIFT key and click the last email

    To select several emails.
Hold down the CTRL key and use the mouse to select multiple e-mails

Right-click on email highlight and select ' copy to '.
Choose a folder in the local folders account.
Verify that you can access your emails with local folders.
If you have a copy in the local files, you can then choose to delete emails that are located in the imap folder.
then go back to "online" mode
IMAP folders will be synchronize with the server to update the server.

    How to switch mode "online":
Click on the screen icon black two located on the far left in the lower status bar

  • Question about Apple Mail IMAP

I have converted e-mail accounts on two computers (mine and my wife's) POP IMAP. We have two email addresses that are the same on both computers. We now see that delete or move an e-mail message from a computer also done the same thing, automatically, on the other computer. It's embarrassing, because some of us can delete or move one message before the other saw it.

Is there a way to isolate incoming messages on both computers to avoid this problem?

Yes, do not use the IMAP protocol.

Accounts IMAP synchronize the changes on the server, and will sync exchange for each client using the account. If you want to manage the same account separately, use rather pop.

  • What does imap mean?

I see this word in my list of labels and I can't find what it means

    Hello

IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. It allows a customer to e-mail (like Thunderbird) to access messages stored on a mail server. It is more modern and fully featured than POP (Post Office Protocol), which is the other major protocol for accessing e-mail messages. Most E-mail providers will now support IMAP.

  • BlackBerry Z10 Z10: Synchronization of emails does not work since yesterday (calendar and contacts are ok but)

    Hello

Since yesterday for (at least for me) reasons unknown my Z10 refuses to synchronize emails with gmail; has worked without any problems for months before.

Symptoms: calendar and contacts are synchronized but not e-mail.

I tried to delete the account and setting up again. Same results: contacts and calendar works, but not by e-mail.

Error message: "your contacts and your calendar accounts have already been added. Currently, the server imap.gmail.com is unavailable and your email account cannot be added. "Please try again later".

Please note that I sync with gmail via IMAP old plain - and IMAP synchronization works smoothly on my PC (thunderbird).

Does anyone else has experienced this problem since yesterday?

    Any cure?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones IMAP - No support? Help, please.

Yesterday, I became an AT & T customer and bought a "BOLD".

I really love the phone, but unfortunately, I have a major problem with it.  I can't IMAP works correctly.  I have two IMAP accounts; one is Gmail, the other is a private account with my host.

I configured both correctly (such as IMAP, pop3 no).  I followed the instructions on the Google site with care.  I searched the web and these forums and found hundreds of messages describing this problem, but not a SINGLE response.

The problem is, to reiterate: IMAP is down.  When I receive an email on an IMAP account, it is pushed to my BB.  That's great.  If I read or delete it on my BB, it is adjusted correctly on the server.  However, if I read or delete this email on the server (via webmail or any other application functional IMAP), it remains unchanged on the BB.  Yes, I checked all the settings of 'reconciliation '.  'Removal of reconciliation', and al.  This box is absolutely worthless...  I thought at the beginning, maybe it was just questionable Gmail IMAP implementation, but my host IMAP server works the same way, so it's too.

I installed the Google Gmail app, and even if it is very nice, there is some delay extreme in the update of the mailbox (like + 20 minutes), and by itself, it does not provide the notification icon of e-mail as the BIS email application is integrated at the top of the screen.  In addition to compounding this question is that if I go into the Gmail app and delete the new email, email REST still in the standard e-mail BB for this account folder.  In other words, don't always no IMAP synchronization removal.

Bottom line is, it would seem that the timing of deletion (and read) with IMAP is one-way only: from BB to a server; but ever since the BB server.

What I need to know is the following:

    (1) is there a way to make it work?

    (2) otherwise, this will to work correctly in the next few months?

Should if the answer is no, then which option I return the phone and get a well designed?  I don't understand how the so-called top phone for e-mail cannot do something as simple as good IMAP synchronization.  MANY people use the IMAP protocol now are not corporate/exchange users.

Any help/ideas on this would be greatly appreciated.

    (1) BIS service supports only a way of reconciliation. The device can delete the messages in the Inbox of the account, but the reverse is not supported. Gmail does not support wireless read and unread status, unlike Yahoo, AOL. Hotmail and Ms OWA accounts.

I assume you mean the gmobilesnyc app. You have an option of the application to turn the notifications so it will inform

you when it arrives. (According to Google discussion site) With regard to the duration (20 +) minutes of update that is

between the application mobile and Gmail. BlackBerry supports the soft, but gmobile is actually the front end fot traffic.

Once again BIS does not support two way deletion and Gmail does not read and unread status.

Bottom line is, it would seem that the timing of deletion (and read) with IMAP is one-way only: from BB to a server; but ever since the BB server.

Yes as he covered the other two statements. BIS, does not delete in two ways. Gmail does not allow the State read / unread.

What I need to know is the following:

    (1) is there a way to make it work?

    (2) otherwise, this will to work correctly in the next few months?

Google is just now with the possibility to synchronize the calendar and contacts as well.

I wish you could be a BlackBerry customer, but if the technology on BOTH sides of equations does not correspond to your

  • newly created missing folders

I recently created a new folder under Inbox and transfer emails in there.
I now looking emails but can not find the files.
If I do a search for emails, I can find them, but the file is still not under Inbox.
I also followed the thunderbird email on my ipad. The folder newly created with emails exist on the ipad, but I can't always see it on my PC.
    Any help, please?

IMAP accounts cannot be converted pop e-mail accounts You must configure them as if they are separate e-mail accounts. But other methods allow you to access the messages on the server, it would be preferable to use the IMAP protocol.

First of all, you can check the Inbox subfolder that you created is actually subscribed.
Right-click on the name of the e-mail account in the folders pane, and then select 'subscribe '.
You should see a list of all available records.
Make sure that the new subfolder of the Inbox is subscribed.
    Click OK

Please confirm that the subfolder is subscribed.
If you were to sign up to see the subfolder, and then this should fix the problem.

If the subfolder is already subscribed, do synchronize you all or only specified folders subscribed?
'Tools' > 'Account settings' > 'Synchronization & storage' for the imap e-mail account.
    OR
right on mail account in the folders pane, and then select "settings".
then select: 'Synchronization and storage' for the imap e-mail account.

See info at this link about the options to all folders to synchronize or specify individual folders.

If you have selected "Keep messages for this account on this computer", then all the files will be synchronized.
If it is not selected and you don't want all the selected, then you must click on the "Advanced" button to see the list of folders to synchronize.

The selection and click on all the ' OK.

now that the subfolder is subscribed and synchronized, it is displayed in the folders pane?

If everything is agreed and synchronised, but shows always do not...
As you use IMAP, this is where you would place these files and profile records.
You see the files in the folder of your profile?

Make visible the hidden files and folders:

    In Thunderbird

    • Help > troubleshooting information
    • Click on the view file"" button.

A new window opens to display your content profile folder name.

    • Close Thunderbird now - this is important.
    • Click the folder «ImapMail»
    • Click the name of the mail account file

If you synchronize your folders subscribed then you would see mbox files that contain emails.
MBOX files will have the same name as the folder.
    MBOX files have no extension.
name of the folder.msf files are just indexing of files that have no emails.
name of folder.sbd records are present when there are subfolders in a specific folder.

If a subfolder of the Inbox would unfold in the folder "Inbox.sbd".

    • Click on the folder "Inbox.sbd".

You can see a file without extension (file mbox with emails) that has the same name as the subfolder is missing?
If so, find the *.msf file that has the same name as the subdirectory and delete this indexing .msf file.

Now restart Thunderbird and to report on the results.

  • Thunderbird crash when sending a message or a copy in the sent mail

I use Thunderbird on Yosemite 10.10.4 38.2.0 (Mac), to connect to Gmail via their IMAP server.

I have been using Thunderbird for many years. The last two weeks, a problem has resurfaced. It seems that Thunderbird loses contact with the IMAP of Gmail server. Two things occur:

    (1) crashes when sending a message: it hangs on "connecting to smtp.gmail.com. After awhile, I hit cancel them and send again and the message passes through. (screenshot attached)

    (2) hangs when copying to sent mail: I compacted my sent mail folder and it still hangs. Yet once I hit Cancel, and he me reprompts. After clicking ok several times, he finally saves the email in the folder.

I am also intermittently an error message "unable to run filters on the message" or something like that. Sporadically, in this case it is so difficult to reproduce.

I have a feeling that the problem is actually the Google server. I was in a new access provider, so at first I thought it was related to this. However, I have tested this in two places, including my university network (temple.edu) and observed the same problems. So, I don't think it's my local network connection.

I found no information that Google has hurt. I think that other users would see the same thing. The problem with the copy sent mail before in older versions of Thunderbird. The usual alternatives were to compact the file and play with the process boundary setting.

This is the case on almost every message I send now, and I send a lot of email, so I need to help this debugging.

    Thank you.

By lifting the server indicates you have DNS problems. Something other r4eport as being useful is a ditch their ISP DNS and use Googles. It's
IP 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. For instructions, see https://www.opennicproject.org/configure-your-dns/how-to-change-dns-servers-on-a-mac/

However, do not check e-mail in the "sent" folder is also very annoying because I can't delete this folder.

Normally, Thunderbird saves mail in the sent folder. In the case of Gmail, all outgoing mail is autoatically added to the Gmail sent folder, and in the case of IMAP synchronizes it to the same folder in Thunderbird. So I guess that you are not using IMAP for your mail. Would this be the case? If you use POP, do a right-click on the account, select settings and folder on behalf of copies and put so save outgoing mail. Maybe it's that, for your EDU that Google do not save in the folder mail. In this case with regard to POPs.

  • Save the contents of local files on hard drive

Periodically, I get a warning that my mailbox is almost full. Emails, I want to keep have been in various folders named by category, under which, in my view, are called local folders (see doc "Send files" attached).
If I understand correctly, these files contribute to the quota allowed in my email box.
I want to record these files on my hardrive so I can easily access their content at will, thus freeing up space on my server of the ISP.
    Is it achievable, please?
I still use Windows XP sp3 if that's relevant.

    In Thunderbird
The IMAP folders show a remote view of the folders from the server.
You subscribe to view these folders.
Message headers are downloaded, and when you choose to read an email, it is downloaded in a temporary cache.
These e-mails are kept on the server.
If you pass in "Offline Mode", you won't be able to read them.

If you sychronisé subscriber records, a copy of the file is downloaded and stored in your Thunderbird profile as a mbox file.
These files synchronized constantly updated to show what is on the server, if you delete or move an email in Thunderbird records, it is also updated on the server.
These e-mails are on your computer and the server, but they synchronize.
If you pass in "Offline Mode", you will be able to read because a copy in your profile folder.

As the server tells you that your quota is nearly full, it is referring to any email in any folder on the server. So it is also any email in your email IMAP account folders.

How to keep a copy on your computer and be able to remove emails on the server:
You "sync" all your folders subscribed to get a copy of your profile.

    Info on imap folder synchronization.

When the synchronization is complete, go to "Offline Mode" to stop synchronization further these records.

    How to switch Mode offline:
Click on the blue screen 2 icon bottom left in the status bar. In offline mode, it will be 2 black screen icon.

Create a backup of your profile - for security reasons:
Store the backup outside of Thunderbird.
You can create a folder on your desktop called "Backup to" for them.

    Into account the Local folder:
Create a few folders named suitablly in 'Local folders' ready to receive emails.
Move all the emails that you want to delete the server, IMAP folders in these new folders in the account of "local folders".
Check that they have moved correctly by selecting view emails randomly.
When you are sure that you have a copy in the local files, delete some emails from the imap folder and double-check that you can still read in local folders, if everything is ok then delete the emails in the IMAP folder.

When emails are safe in local folders.
    Compact all folders.
    File > Compact folders.
    Wait for compacting.
then go back to online mode.

    How to switch Mode online:
Click on the black screen 2 icon bottom left in the status bar. When online it will change 2 blue screen icon.

Imap folder will be synchronize with the server.

Now connect to the Web Server e-mail account using a browser.
check records to ensure that the emails have been deleted on the server.

If you have a gmail account:
Also check the "All messages" folder because it is gmails archive and keep a copy of everything. Make sure that you don't delete emails you don't want or have a copy your local folders of Thunderbird - that removing this folder will remove e-mail messages in other folders.

Hope this information resolves your situation.

  • I want to use Thunderbird without saving e-mails on PC. How is that possible?

I want to use Thunderbird without saving any email to a local folder in my PC.
Can you help me please on this?
    Thank you.

There are two types - POP and IMAP
You will need to login to your webmail account using a browser and select the option to use the IMAP forwarding Protocol - assuming that the option is available.

E-mail POP accounts can only access the server Inbox.
Emails are downloaded to your computer and stored in your Thunderbird profiles folder. So this guy can't according to your needs.

IMAP e-mail accounts provide a remote view of files and emails stored on the server.

You subscribe to view these folders. Then the headers are downloaded and when you opt for the display of an email, the email is downloaded in a temporary cache.

Subscribed folders that are synchronized, download a copy of the file and store it in your Thunderbird profile. But these files are constantly updated to reflect what is stored on the server.

Your best option would be to create an IMAP e-mail account, you sign up to see the folders on the server, but do not select to synchronize subscribed folders.

E-mails stored in your Thunderbird profile on your computer load faster than those that must be retrieved from the server each time.

Info on the synchronization, so you can see how to turn on or off.

  • Can Thunderbird import emails and folders from AOL?

I still use AOL Desktop 9.6 on windows XP. I would use Thunderbird instead, but it will be my "registered PC" in several cases, 'Old' and 'emails sent? I experienced on a Mac with Apple Mail.app and found that it imported automatically all the old emails and sent to a Comcast account that had never been used with the webmail. My AOL emails could be imported from my PC or AOL servers. I really want to get rid of the AOL desktop software, as often, he runs several instances Aolsoftware.exe process and slows down the computer. Thank you.

In your account email aol Web, accessible via a browser, you will need to select "Reference of IMAP" to activate it.

With IMAP, you can choose to sign up to see the folders already on the server.
    In Thunderbird
Right-click on the Inbox folder, and then select 'Subscribe' to see the list.

Also, you can synchronize folders subscribed.

  • Why almost all the themes never fail to install in my v24?

Running Thunderbird 24.2.0 under Linux (Ubuntu) of Bodhi. Works very well, email yahoo via IMAP synchronization. I would like to install a theme or two that are easier on my eyes. I found a lot of great-looking themes, but can't get most of them to install. For some of them, I get the message "So-and-so theme is not compatible with the version 24.2.0" That's fine - I understand. But in MOST cases, it does nothing, no message, nothing. Very frustrating. I was able to install Charamel Silvermel and Nuvola, although I tried at least a dozen others. None of the .jar files (java) worked, and most of the as is; and there is no error message (explanations).

    My procedure is:
    Download the file
    Go to the Add-ons Manager
Click on the little gear icon
Choose install the module in the file...
Navigate to the file, and then click
    Voila! Nothing happens.

I'm a rookie looking for help.

Thank you very much, in advance!

I don't think that there is a list of which themes are compatible with every version, but in any case it is best to just install one and see if it works. Charamel both Silvermel work here, for the most part, on TB 31 and 35, Windows 7, although he also asserted in the Add-ons Manager.

The same is true of extensions: many others who claim to not work on the new CTS, do not work properly.

Since the last update, one cannot send or receive e-mails. It's showing that Mozilla thunderbird connects, but it just freezes. YPUR assistance would be greatly appreciated.

After reinstall Thunderbird, have you used the old profile or new profile.

Check with your IMAP/POP3, SMTP settings and the PORT.

Make sure that your firewall/Antivirus blocking is not Thunderbird.

  • When I closed and reopened my PC all my previous mail disappears. How can I stop this?

With outlook, all mails have been identified, when I started the PC, now when I run Thunderbird starts with empty folders outside of "Deleted".

How can I keep all messages in the po box until I delete them

IMAP e-mail accounts show a remote view of the files on the server. These e-mails are kept on the server. You subscribe to a folder. Then when TB starts and it will show you the folders subscribed and you select to read an email, the content of this file is downloaded in a temporary cache on your computer so that it is faster to retrieve other emails in this folder. When you close TB, the cache is deleted as well.

You can also choose to synchronize your folders. In this case, a copy of the folder and e-mail messages are downloaded to your computer and stored in the folders of your profile and you can access it in a State 'offline '. However, when you make changes, alter, move, delete etc, whereas this folder synchronizes with the file on the server and update it so that the two copies are the same.

In your case, it seems that you have created an IMAP e-mail account, but have not subscribed to the records.

By default, Thunderbird showing only subscribed folders. It's a way to manage the background image when you have a lot of remote folders and you don't want to see all of them in the files pane.

You are subscribed to a folder by right clicking the remote Inbox, selecting "Subscribe", developing the tree view of the Inbox in the window, and subscribing whatever files you want.

You can configure it to display all folders by unchecking the checkbox to "tools-> account settings-> Server settings-> advanced-> IMAP-> show only subscribed folders".
