Implementation of NAS unit

Hi, I'm going to buy a unit NAS RN10400 and hard drives 2x4TB, I want to put up with 2 x disks in Raid and add a 4 to drive to need how can I do this?

OK thanks, I thought I might add additional drives to the xraid later? so I would need to create a Raid 1 on the first 2 discs to give me 4 TB and another adding later as jbod, and then adding the last disk later as jbod would give me a 4 1 2 x 4 and to raid jbod to?

Perhaps clarify you what desired RAID configuration when you have finished.

With XRAID, you simply hot-insert 4TB additional disks when you want to raise the table.

2 x 4 TB initially gives you 4 TB RAID - 1

Adding disk 3 pushes the table 8 TB RAID-5

Adding disk 4 pushes the table to 12 TB RAID - 5.

If you want something else, you will need to use flexraid.

  • I can't change the read only files on my NAS unit.

I have a promise SmartStore MS4300n Network Attached Storage system that I have used for more than two years. I can access it from my Windows Xp and my 64 bit Windows 7 computer. Yesterday, I tried to move some files from my Win 7 to the NAS and I find that I can't copy on it. I can move my Win 7 7 NAS files. When I look at the properties of the files on the NAS, they all are now READ ONLY. When I try to change it tells me I don't have permission. I am the only user and I am logged in as admin. Yet once it has started here yesterday.
If I access the NAS since my XP I can copy data to the NAS even if properties files are READ only.

The problem is clearly with WINDOWS 7, how to fix it, it work well before and I need to use this device to check my belongings.

    Thank you

OK, looks like I fixed it. I found that even though I have my computer set up to run all updates automatically I checked windows update and found five that had not been installed. After that I ran the update now can I copy files to my SIN again.

  • SOLUTION: implementation of operating unit Org security without EBS integration

    Hi all

Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

    Environment

Applications of Oracle's BI 7.9.6 (financial and analytical project)
    Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10

    Question

I have implemented the BI Applications and uses LDAP (OID/MSAD) authentication to authenticate users of BI applications. It performs authentication successfully. Also, I need to implement the GROUP authorization and security OU_ORG, but as I do not implement integration EBS documented (as directed by Metalink Note ID 555254.1) I am looking at a custom solution.

To achieve this, I created a custom in the BAW database table that contains the information USER, GROUP, and OU_ORG. Then, I created separate initialization blocks for the security of the GROUP and the OU_ORG being triggered after the LDAP authentication. These SQL queries are inspired to return data to a Variable initialization. I'm lining up groups presentation OOTB GROUP values and I am able to get that block initialization to work as expected - the user has more privileges to see the links in dashboard and demand as I have it configured in the Web catalogue.

However, they can see all the data across all the orgs. Safety OU_ORG is back the correct org_ids in the horizontal variable, but I seem to be missing how OBIEE uses this to data security.

If you are able to help with a possible solution, that would be greatly appreciated. In addition, if it relates to a change in the level of the dashboard, responses or SPR, if you were able to include where precisely in these components that would also be very beneficial.

    Thank you very much
    Gary.

I suppose that you created a variable called OU_ORG populated by your own custom block horizontal init. Now, you must create a security group (or use one that is called OR Org based security OTB on the). Open the group, and in one of the tabs, you can create data filters. Create filters on the appropriate facts you want by applying a filter on the dimension of the OU using the variable above. Then using the variable GROUP, you must ensure that your users who belong to this group (the variable should get assigned with exactly the same value as the name of the security group).

  • Inexpensive iSCSI SAN\NAS

I'm working with an engineering company who will move several physical servers to a single machine running 3 1 VMs. ESXi host is a Windows SBS 2011 server, second is a Server 2008 (application server with very low load) system, and the third will be a simple file server running FTP and some shared folders for internal use (we could easily move the files to the SAN\NAS server). He comes to support 15 local users and 15 others in remote offices or on the ground.

The ESXi host is a Dell, or Supermicro system all of the ESXi compatibility list, that was the easy part so far. We have trouble finding an inexpensive SAN\NAS iSCSI device. Our needs for this SAN are limited. We plan on 3 virtual machines running on the internal disks of the ESXi host. The SAN\NAS will be mainly used as a target for backup for Veaem (and), but it seems prudent to support iSCSI specification where our needs change in the future and we must provide the ESXi host iSCSI access.

In my lab at home, I use a Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 6 on beta firmware that works very well. But I'm hesitant to put something with firmware beta in production. And, in looking at the options, none of the sellers of that I would normally think VMware still certified. I am referring to the business link D-Link, Netgear, Qnap and Synology. Now, they have all the beta firmwares according to different levels of support for ESXi, but I don't know that I'm uncomfortable that deployment in production.

I would appreciate any recommendations on some NAS units that will work or another approach. If you need more information, just ask andI'll be more than happy to do what I can. Thanks in advance.

Considered the px4/px6 EMC series?  Fully VMware and EMC used VMware, bring your own drives, etc.

  • ESXi5 + iSCSI NAS with MPIO, fairly reliable for file server?

I look at the different options to learn where to run a file server. The most logical choice would be to run a Windows Server 2008R2 in an ESX host using the esx storage, however the esx use accesed by iSCSI NAS storage. I'm worried about losing files due to corruption of either the VMFS or VM-file, this could happen with any type of storage, but the fact that the system of whole files be stored in a single VMdisk care.

I have a few other options, such as:

    (1) host the files directly on the NAS Server (it is supported)

    (2) set up a number of logic of the NAS unit directly in the comments of Windows Server (avoiding the use of a VM disk)

The approach let ESXi dealing with iSCSI would be more integrated, but I will be more at risk? If something happens to the VMdisk I would lose all the files it contains, it is probably something (power loss, iscsi network failure?), are there any tools to recover a corrupted vmdisk?

    Thank you

You'll be fine using an iSCSI LUN in ESX.  Your NAS device should be the biggest concern (if you lose the storage, you would lose any protocol any way).  Just make sure that it is a business device.  You could also potentially use NFS from your NAS device (if supported).  As with any environment, make sure that you back up!  You will not be at risk using iSCSI as an RDM.

  • picture change the white balance that has been implemented in the device after its import in lightroom 5

My pictures change the balance of whites and the global settings that have been implemented in the unit after its import in lightroom 5. Met someone with something like that? Thanks to you all.

    Alex

Screen 1 - this is what it looks like right after the import. The white balance is correct and just need a few changes.

Screen 2 - However, In a few seconds it turns into this by itself. This can also happen when editing is finished, if I remove the image in Lightroom.

Screen 3 - in order to restore it to a certain extent I have to select the predefined filter called 'Zero '.

That means that you have inadvertently applied a preset import to have checked in the preferences of your Auto adjustments:

  • Newbie - Question of Installation (before you begin)...

Good, first of all the question as I embark on the virtual path (or the path of virtualization?).  Here's the situation...

I have two Dell servers of very high quality (2-processor quad-core, 8 GB RAM, 1.5 TB of storage in RAID 5, double NIC, double P/S backup tape).  They were both purchased before I started and are total overkill for the needs of the Department.  I also have 3 old servers and a handful of former workstations that we keep around because they have environments that are required at all times and are running software that would be difficult to get your hands on these days).

Recently, we purchased a license for the development of the 1-vCenter Server 1 - VI3.   My initial goal is pretty simple (one of the more recent servers convert an ESX Server, hosting of server environment that currently exists on this area as well as several other virtual machines).  But before you start, I came with a few questions.

First of all, as I just mentioned, I want to take one of the more recent

servers (which is currently a backup from the Department Server)

and convert it to a host ESX Server (I've got the correct jargon of hope).  But I want to preserve the environment that are in this box as a VS.  Is there a way to do this?   Can I use the free Converter P2V and temporarily save the virtual server to a SAR unit and load/configure ESX on this server and finally pull on the virtual server of origin of the NAS unit file?  My concern is that I must have loaded somewhere ESX before I can create a VM, which will not work because the process of creating the ESX Server will scan the server I'm trying to keep.  No sense?

Second question: at the moment, I want to use the 1.5 TB raid configuration that is presently on this box (local storage) to store the virtual machine.  I'm 99% sure this is a SCSI configuration (I am currently off site and impossible to verify).  There are SCSI?  And there at - it no problem just by using local storage to the virtual machine?  Most of the configurations I've seen described online and in books use SAN for their virtual machines.  But the virtual machine I want to create is not "critical" systems  They are important, but if they were down for a day or two, it would not be the end of the world for us.  Finally, I would like to implement the ESX Servers redundant with external storage, but it is where I am at the moment.  Once I showed you the benefits, I will be able to push in this direction.  So for now, I want to use the high-end box that I like the epicenter of my virtual world.

I read a virtual infrastructure for Dummies, and it was actually excellent.  I was never a fan of the books 'for Dummies', but I did a little research, and the reviews have been very strong, so I gave it a try.  But I'd be open to other suggestions as well in terms of good books for a mid-level administrator.

Thanks in advance for the help.  I've learned over the years asking a few questions before a change of this magnitude is much better than labour in advance and hoping for the best.

    CareyBroph

1: Yes, you can use VMware Converter to convert physical machine virtual server vmware server instance and then use the converter to convert from vmware esx server. I would say a good backup and test the server vmware vm before deleting the physical installation.

Yes, in 2: SCSI is absolutely fine if caught serveris supported by VMware. The reason why most people use SAN or iSCSI is that they need a storage shared for clusters. You may want to consider this, too since you have the licenses required to run VI3 with ESX Server switchis and vCenter "ontop" and you eliminate the single point of failure of a standalone ESX Server would be. But as you said, the amount of the fine with the non-critical systems.

    Kind regards

  • Help!  Large iTunes library split into two locations, how to fix?

Long ago, I told iTunes to store its iTunes Media on a NAS file and I copied the iTunes folder all my D: to the NAS unit.  I also said iTunes to keep organized records and copy files of music added to the NAS.

I just found out by examining the XML file that iTunes thinks about half of my music files (~ 7,000 of them) are located on the D: drive and other ~ 7 000 are there where I want it all, on the NAS.  Number of files on the NAS which I however contained artist/album music files are empty; the files appear to have been erased and are still on the D: drive where the XML points to them.  Management of iTunes files (XML. ITL, etc..) iTunes is now current are also on the D: drive... those on the NAS are not kept up to date.

I thought my massive library - countless hours to rip my CD - safe on the multi-plate RAID NAS.  Goes, if I lose my D: drive (which I was backup is no longer) I lose half of my library and all of my iTunes administrative folders.  Ouch!

How can I get safely iTunes exclusively use the SIN for all the data files and of the administration?

If I re - copy data from D: to the NAS and edit the XML file to point to the NAS for all files, iTunes will not even watch D: for the management of the library?  How can I do forget d everything?

Thanks in advance for any help.

By modifying the file XML will not help at all - iTunes only writes to this file, the bed ever.  Assuming that all of your media plays correctly then you should be able to consolidate your library (file > library > organize library > consolidate files).  This will copy all the multimedia files that are not in the iTunes media folder location specified in Edit > Preferences > advanced to this location.  Note, however, that many reports suggest that iTunes + SIN is not an ideal combination; You can be better to use a standard external drive for your library and use the NAS device for backups.  You can also watch the advice to user turingtest2 on do a split cell library for more details on the optimization of available to your library.

  • DLNA - 'no file playable found ".

My BDP-S570 can see my DLNA server and browse the directory structure. However, he pointed out each directory as "no playable file found".

I have a mixture of .mkv, .mp4, .mpg and .vob files. The player sees any of them.

I had a similar problem on a player of Blu - Ray BDP-S570. I have a Western Digital external hard drive with a Twonky media server. The BDP-S570 would find the music repertoire, but gave error "no playable files found" when you try to play music. Interestingly, I just bought a Blu - Ray BDP - S580 player and it plays music on the WD external drive very well.

You're getting hammered by both ends.

Twonky V5.19 is choice of WD in the DLNA server software. It is broken.

You can upgrade to a working version by installing in the Twonky-5 directory, I'm running worm 6.0.37 and it is stable and rendering works well enough to make the functional WD NAS.

If you are not comfortable with Linux, do not attempt this without a step by step cheat sheet. WD's support forum has some. Remember that whenever you make a updated firmware for the WD NAS, you need to reinstall a functional version of Twonky. You will also need to pay for a registration of Twonky key after 30 days use.

I'm streaming movies mpg, mov movies and mp3 audio without problem. I was not brave enough to depart from this combination. I am currnelty using 2 WD MyBookLive NAS units.

Good luck; It took me more than a year of the WD does not as announced before I decide to make it compatible with the player Blu - ray Sony 570 and 46HX TV series...

  • Remove ReadyCloud android app

I can connect to the web interface of ReadyCloud and only to find my 3 OS 6 NAS units. If I use the ReadyCloud android app, I also find a former NAS unit that once, I have used (or tried) but who has failed a few months ago. I tried to empty the cache and the data on my android device but when I connect the device to the app reappeared, showing the status of 'unknown '. I found a similar question posted by "n_damian" in early 2015, and apparently the solution was sent by PM and is not included in the view of the forum. Any help is appreciated; I clearly have a workaround, but it would be nice to have a fix in place! Thank you.

  • Upgrade to 6.6.0

People have updated the old NAS units to 6.6.0? I 6.5.1 at the moment and wonder if it is safe to go ahead with the upgrade.

I also tested ReadyDR which works fine too

  • Degraded data please help im know if everything lost

Hi, I recently bought a "new" rn21400 4 unit without drive Bay and two new disks 4 TB Western Digital RED.

everything has been works well since I've set up three days ago, today I though I would transfer the last of my documents to the nas to my pc (approximately 250 GB of photos and music) before completing about 70% done the unit began flashing data degraded

When I checked the volumes on the admin page one of the disks is red and when the information arrives he says bad disk.

It is said with xraid on a raid level 1 I believe that must have 4 TB of backup?

What should I do? I was really not lucky and got a faulty drive or a simple restart and resynchronization or other difficulty there. There is a lot of data on the nas about 1.2 TB of films, working papers that I really can't lose, ive so them removed from my home pc as I well they have ended safely to the nas.

    Help, please

    RAID-1 provides redundancy backup.

With RAID-1 when a disk fails and you add a disk to a resynchronization is triggered. This puts heavy emphasis on all disks that the disks must be synchronized by sector. As the disk that was considered to be failed is added in the table it has probably been deleted. If the other drive happens to fail during the resynchronization (unlikely, but possible) then you may lose all your data.

So if your data is important just store them on an SAR unit. You need a backup to another NAS unit or somewhere else. However, if the primary copy of the data is on your PC then copy on the NAS server is a backup.

It would be helpful if you could send your logs as suggested BrianL.

You cannot add smaller disks to X-RAID volume, but you can disable X-RAID and create a second volume, or you can reformat all (for example to do a factory reset) and create a new volume using all four disks.
