Impossible to connect an external display

Hello

I have a MacBook pro 13 "with the latest software and updates to the OS. I tried unsuccessfully to connect my laptop to an external display, a Dell P2414H.

Unfortunately, this screen has a hdmi connector. I used the VGA cable with a VGA adapter / HDMI to connect to my Mac. I chose the VGA output on the screen, but the MacBook has not detected the screen. I can connect the external display with the laptop of a colleague who is on the 8.1 Windows / Ubuntu LTS 14.04 (dual boot). Thus, the HDMI, VGA cable adapter and the screen are ok because they work on other computers.

I also tried to plug in my MacBook at home with my external screen Asus (hdmi connection) and my Sony TV (hdmi connection). Everything worked well.

How can I solve the problem of connection with external display Dell?

Thank you

I do a lot of presentations (Keynote) to Mac external displays at events.

The new MacBook (12 ") is quite often problems, so I have to carry a MacBookAir as back-up in case where.

Problems can be no image at all, or two images (like 70% Keynote + 30% of office) and with spikes.

It doesn't matter if I use HDMI or VGA. And Yes, I know how to set the resolution in the workplace sometimes that the problem is solved by adjusting the resolution manually, but then the Macbook can jump to the resolution which does not by itself during the slide show...

I think that the problem only occurs when I have to go through a device such as a split, or when there is a lot of tech back stage.

  • Satellite P750 - unable to connect an external display via the VGA port

    Hi all

    My problem is the following:

I tried to connect my P750 (running on W7 x-64) an external display using the VGA cable port. Unfortunately, these devices recognize my phone. Laptop does not recognize the external display, you can see in the graphics settings as additional display, but the screen shows "no signal".

The computer always identifies the screen correctly, so it seems that there is communication from the screen to the PC, but not the reverse.

This has been verified with 3 separate screens and television - still the same. All the screens work properly with the other PC.

    I already have:

-try to play with FN + F5 / "windows" + buttons P - no change
-install the latest drivers BIOS and video site Web from Toshiba - no change

Suggestions how to operate? Is it possible that the VGA port is faulty?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

You have the same problems with a HDMI output port?
Usually, you don't need to change anything to get the external monitor works.
Press Fn + F5 several times until the monitor RGB (VGA) was selected
Since you can choose an HDMI output too, you should pay attention to this option.

Have you tried to change the resolution before using the Fn + F5?
    It s worth a try

Last but not least, you could set the default BIOS (press F9 BIOS and save the changes by pressing F10). But I don't very well if the BIOS contains some parameters of port RGB (VGA) m

As far as I know it is not possible to connect two external displays. I know that you can only use a port. If you want to use two screens you probably external device as Toshiba Dynadock.

My function keys stopped working, I am tring to connect my Alienware 2210 monitor I hooked up and working before, my computer tells me that it is not connected. The HDMI is plugged into my screen and my computer. When I'm on my desktop and I right click for inside, click Customize my display settings that I click on that opens and then click on connect an external display and it says no connection. All this was that I have to type FN/F6 to change the display of laptop to external display. I know it's a setting I prevent my FN keys work, but I don't know how to fix it?

    1. what happens if you use the function keys?

  • External display on HDMI overheating my Mac and drains the battery badly

    Hey guys.

I am using a MBP retina 2012 15 inches with an external monitor, a generic LCD 1080 p via HDMI without problems. And recently updated for Sierra.

The question starts immediately when I plug it into the screen. The Macbook seems to overheat and run fans above 4000 rpm, which is very audible and boring. CPU and GPU temperatures go above 70 degrees C (normally they make 50 +). The battery holds for only 1.5 hours, generally works well for 4-5 hours.
I tried killing all apps, followed a bad process in activity monitor, changing default resolution - nothing helps so far. The CPU is barely used by 10%, the memory pressure is fine.
It's just that time when I plug the screen - Mac starts bad feeling. Never, the problem occurred on El Capitan. Maybe it's a GPU problem, but certainly caused by the OS.
All the world had the same problem?

Try resetting the NVRAM (hold down the command-option-P-R on startup).

Also, try to restart in Mode without failure, then normally again.

Finally, try logging into your account, sign in to a user account (or the guest account) and connect the external display. Same problem? If it works fine for a new account then it's something in your own account which is the cause - perhaps an element of connection or some other system changes induced by the operating system previous and who does not play nice with Sierra.

  • Broken LCD - can not get external display

My screen is no longer good so im trying to connect an external display.

Been trying for hours to try to get the external display to work to boot.

Ive tried 2 sets of hd and svga cables change everything. The function key.

The laptop does not recognize the display, but seems to go in something or powersave mode.

The only way I can get the external display to work is if I remove the battery and wait a bit and then power

the display works with a notice on the screen that the cmos will reset to default settings then restarts

and back to where I was once again... IM thinking that it something in the bios that is the cause.

I thank you and hope I can understand this.

  • Interruption of the external connection USB - C display after sleep

I connect my MacBook (retina, 12 inches, beginning 2016) directly via a USB - C cable for an external display Lenovo X 1. The MacBook recognizes the display when I plug in the cable. I then close the MacBook and work exclusively in the external display. However, after that the MacBook wakes from sleep, he does reconnect not to display. This means that whenever the computer goes to sleep I have to disconnect and freshly plug cable USB - C to connect to the screen. Anyone know what to do the display remains connected?

    Hello forestforger,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community Support from Apple. I know just how you feel. I have a few different external monitors, that I use with my MacBook - I depend on everything working properly!

One way to solve this problem is by resetting the management system (SCM) controller on your MacBook. MSC helps to regulate the functions of some of the other material on your Mac. This article will guide you through how to reset: reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac.

Let us know if this works, or if you experience other problems, the entire community is here to help.

  • Re: Satellite A660-10W - connection external display with HDMI cuts sound on

When I use an external display via the HDMI, it mutes the sound of the laptop.
It's OK because the external display has a headphone/speaker output jack.

However, when I close the external screen (which I use for movies only) and to use the laptop only, the sound is cut all the time that the HDMI cable is connected.

I can't hear sound - by harman/kardon speakers or headphone - when the HDMI cable is disconnected (if the external display is turned on or off).

Is there a way to allow me to have the choice and use her laptop - even when the HDMI cable is connected - in order not to keep plugging and plugging on?

    Thank you

    It is clear.
If the HDMI cable is connected, then the digital output is defined as audio output by default and therefore you do not hear the sound of the internal speakers but on external monitor speakers.

You need to change the sound settings.

Go to control panel of-> sound-> reading tab and set the speakers to laptop as default.
Then you should hear sound from the speakers for laptop!
