Impossible to connect an external hard drive

I unplugged my hard drive of the computer and re plugged. I can feel and hear it runs that power is connected but there is no light on and the computer keeps telling me that it is unplugged. I have checked and re checked all connections. If the wire to the computer could be broken and if so what call? He isn't a regular usb cord. There is a wide connector at both ends.

  • Computer "not responding" when I connect the external hard drive.

    Hi all

When I connect my external hard drive to my laptop, it is detected and the icon for the material appears in the taskbar background. But when I go to my computer, it happens that does not. I can always open other programs etc that are not related to the hard drive, but nothing to do with the hard drive "fails". As soon as I plug it on, the laptop starts responding again. I tried it on another laptop and the same thing happens.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Wendall81,

-How long have you had this problem?

    Follow the steps below:

    Method 1:

Step 1: Boot in safe mode and check if the problem persists.

Step 2: If the problem does not occur in safe mode, you can put your system to boot (in normal mode) to solve the problem.

See How to solve a problem by performing a boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

    Method 2:

Run a check disk on the external hard drive.

For instructions, see check your drive for errors .

Note: If any bad sectors are found by running the check disk utility and recovery of the attempt of bad sectors option is checked when checking the disk for errors, data in the bad sector can be lost as they tried to recover bad sectors. Gokul - Microsoft Support

  • How to connect two external HARD drive satellite and the same printer?

    Hello

I have now two laptop Toshiba Equium.
What is the best way to connect them so that they can access the same external hard drive and the same printer?

    Thank you

    Hello

I guess the two laptops are in the same network; Home LAN or WLan. Right?
I this case I recommend you connect HARD drive and printer to one of the portable satellite.

Then you can share the HARD drive and the printer with other cell phones on the LAN.

You could add the network permission to others, and in this case the other participants of the network would be able to share the printer and HARD drive.

Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the USB controller drivers?

If so, have you installed latest drivers from the motherboard chipset?

Follow the steps below and check if it works:

1 download the drivers for external hard drive from the following link and check.

    2. click on the link to the HP Web site below to download the latest drivers. Search for drivers related to USB / external peripheral.

  • Connect an external hard drive to an iPod?

I have an external hard drive Free Agent for my computer, y at - it a cord that I can buy that I can plug my iPod so that I can play music/movies from my external hard drive to the iPod?

No, there are no cords.  There are devices available "HD" including wifi and with the application provided by the manufacturer of the drive, you can access and save files/media to the engine and the iPod.  The iPod is to use the application given that native apps of the iPod can not access the device.

    This is such a device

  • Impossible to duplicate to external hard drive using the CCC

    Hi all

I wanted to make a clone of my HD, because it started acting weird lately and decided not to make a clone of it when I get a new HD, but when I use ccc I select my boot drive (the one doubtful), then my drive external usb (2 TB) as my destination and copy everything BUT after 4 hours no progress but 4 points work but nothing is transferred. I formatted the external hard drive as it should be set to format less 10.8 in disk utility. So what I'm doing wrong here? Is there an easy way to do it? I think that I have V. 3.5 ccc, y at - it a bug with this version? BTW, my external hard drive is a USB 3 but compatible for 2 and my mac has no problem reading and writing to it. Any help with this or other means or programs to clone my drive is welcome.

    Thank you!!!

Have you checked for an update of the CCC?

Have you considered Time machine? You can restore from that.

    Clone - SuperDuper

    Clone - Synk

Clone - 6 tested Applications Software

Try using disk/restore to copy the data to a new location. Please note that this will reformat the destination partition.

  • Impossible to format an external hard drive?

So, I am trying to format a 1 TB WD My Passport external hard drive but get the error messages.  I recently completely wiped out this player because he was running extremely slow and when I try to create a simple format through the disk management I get an error message "request cannot be performed because of an i/o error".  He also sees the drive, in disk management, but there is no associated letter and he said that all of the disk is not affected (931 GB).  How do I get this problem?

In cases where the Disk Manager does not work, I use a 3rd party application EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition (freeware @ easeus.com). It allows to create a partition in the unallocated space, and then name it and assign it a letter then put it. Then, Windows will recognize the newly formatted disk.

I don't know why Windows won't do, but I had this happens on two external drives, and it works.

  • Lost volume after connecting the external hard drive

I had some movies I wanted to copy in one of my sharing folders, so I tied a drive hard usb at the back of my camera, but the nas don't seem to notice. I rebooted my nas and all of a sudden my internal volumes were absent and did not show the external drive and the system told me I have not put volumes in place.

My two internal drives can be selected for formatting as if I just do a reset to factory... can someone help me re set my volume, I have over my data already out there.

I guess its some sort of hardware conflict when I joined my outside, there dissregarded somehow my internal volumes.

Problem solved no. thanks to an hour on the phone with the customer service...

The naskey was not connected because I took out the usb to connect my external drive. Such a simple thing took all day to figure out.

  • Windows does not start correctly when some multiple connection for external hard drive USB hubs are connected

When starting, I have 2 USB hubs that connect to multiple external HD.

If I disconnect the hubs, windows always starts very well.

If I connect the HUB, windows delayed considerably the boot (approximately 5 to 10 minutes) and sometimes restarts the PC before getting to the screen of windows login, and after that the Windows logo is displayed during the start-up phase.

Some HD sometimes take to start I hear but why Windows is restarted and all simply just do not excluding the HD or hubs does not not as expected?

    Any clue?

    Hello Patrick,.

If other devices are working well, then clearly the USB ports have gone very well. I would say more that likely you have two defective USB Hub (it happens, I have several other defective in my junk mail boxes!).

Given that the hubs are relatively expensive, I suggest you replace the two hubs with more heavy duty those able to withstand the high external HARD disk requirements. Try Newegg.com and TigerDirect.com, sort by best rating.

The other thing, you don't mention if your hubs / ports are ports USB 3.0 and if you use a card like the adapter link. These configurations can sometimes cause problems, and it might be useful to re - check the different connections.

    Keep me posted.

And thanks a lot for this.

    Kind regards

  • Impossible to mount the external hard drive on iMac

I have a Seagate NTFS hard drive mounting problem on my iMac, do anyone know why?

I am aware that iMac does not support the NTFS format. Already when I plug the hard drive NTFS, it has been able to mount the hard drive and the drive will appear on the desktop. I am able to read the disk, but cannot write , which is perfectly fine.

The problem occurs when I finally had to write my iMac on the hard drive, so I downloaded the paragon of Seagate and software of dashboard that were meant to allow a Mac write to the hard disk. However, after installation, everything went haywire and the hard drive would not rise again. Remove the seagate software wouldn't help.

My iMac still detect the drive when I plug the hard drive, but I can't mount the hard drive to use it. All I want is to be able to read the drive.

Anyone know how I can get my iMac to climb back from the hard disk NTFS?

    I'm on El Capitan 10.11.2.

Try to uninstall the "Seagate dashboard and paragon software" and restarting your iMac.
