In esxi 4.1 tape drive compatibility

This is probably a pretty basic question. I'm relatively new to vmware and trying to determine if our tape drive scsi 160/320 BHBBX-EY Quantum DLT - V4 model is supported in esxi 4.1 (using the free version). Looking at the hardware compatibility matrix, I see our offer of scsi cards but am not finding references for the readers themselves. This is a matter that if the scsi card is supported, then the tape drive should work, or I am simply not find the list of tape drives? It is a single disc, not an autoloader. Thanks in advance. -Bruce

Yes, no worries about the points.  Let us know how it worked.

  • Support ESXi 5.0 host FC connected tape drives in the virtual machine running symantec backup exec 2012

    Dear Experts,

    We recently purchased C0H19A: StoreEver HP 1/8 G2 6 - LTO Ultrium 6250 CF TapeAutoloader. The purpose is to backup of VMS data, I mean selected data in virtual machines, as for the exchange of data bases email for server accounts database SQL server etc.. We have a full VM backup plan, so using symantec backup exec software.

    We have this configuration:

    -TWO DL 380 Gen8 servers (running UPDATE2 Esxi 5.0), both servers have not all SCSI ports

    -One SINGLE HP P2000 G2 MSA FC Dual Cntrl storage

    -TWO HP SN6000 12 - pt Windows Pwr FC switch

    -HP ADF

    All them above are related to the CF. Symantec backup exec 2012 is also installed on Windows 2008 R2, which is a virtual machine.

    But now, we are unable to see the tape library autoloader through the virtualization layer in the device of machine Manager virtual backup exec. Reading on internet, I also found some details that connected FC tape drives are not supported by the Esxi hosts. We are really stuck in this situation, all the solutions to this. I also read the article from vmware saying configuration for Esxi 4.0 FC tape drives and later versions

    Installation of a physical server windows with Backup Exec 2012 and HBA and connected to above switches FC is the only way to see the ADF? Even after reading articles on the internet, I'm not clear, please guide what solution I have now to get this thing going, I really need to find solution to this.

    Waiting for answers.

    Kind regards

    Hello, I'm a Backup Exec support engineer and yes the method supported is only by connecting the tape drive to a server of physical media. See the introduction in the Backup Exec HCL on Configurations of http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH175582 and http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH146293 alternative

  • How to use the SDLT tape drive in the guest OS VM

    Dear

    now, I have HP DL380 G5 Server running windows 2003 Ent. with bus adapter host SC11xe PCI - E HP which directly connected tp SDLT Tape Drive as backup server and use for the backup operation.

    I want to move the physical backup to host vmware server and EMC AX4 allows you to have a backup online and allows you to take backup offline, SDLT tape drive

    My question is how I use the SDLT tape drive in guest OS vm and vmware knows "HP PCI - E SC11xe Host bus adapter" or not.

    Please let me know how to do this.

    Kind regards

    I have a G5 DL385 (AMD of the DL380 version) with a DLT3.   I use an Adaptec 29320LPE, appearing on the compatibility list.  We plugged a HP Ultrium 920 changer using the 'old method' SCSI passthrough.  We bought the Adaptec card, because we used initially ESX3.5.  We are now on ESX4.0, but for various reasons, the configuration left the same, so I have not tried with VMDirectPath I don't know if it is possible to use the SC11ex card, but if you arrive VMDirectPath at work, it seems then you need another SCSI card.

  • fibre channel tape drives

    What is the latest on connecting broadband fiber channel led to virtual machines? Is it supported? Otherwise, what is the best way to use a tape drive with ESXi/vSphere fiber channel?

    I use Acronis Virtual Edition in a VM and I'd love to Acronis can directly see the tape drive.

    Looking for suggestions.

    You may be able to make it work, but there are only a few cards that are same experimentally supported.  Couple that with a band CF device unsupported, and personally, I would not base my strategy of backup around it.

  • Are supported for FC connected tape drives?

    Hello

    Just to clarify with you guys, makes vSphere what ESX/ESXi 4 supports connected FC

    tape drives?

    My understanding is that in CF VI3, connected tape drives were not supported, but correct me if I'm wrong.

  • What external cable to adapter for dell 6Gbps PCIe SAS tape drive

    Hello

    I have an external controller of the HBA dell R220 with a PCIe (SAS 6Gbps) (Dell part in the 405-AACH citation number). I need this hook to a Tandberg StorageLoader LTO-4 - band - LTO Ultrium - SAS MFG auto charger. part: 7816-LTO which has on it a 26 4 pin x external interface shielded multi-channel SAS (SFF-8088) Mini.

    The seller (not dell) sent me a 1 m cable SAS internal (SFF-8087 to SFF-8482) which I am totally surprised how who can be connected even internally. Another question is, this internal cable is going to be useful for anything whatsoever for the tape drive login server?

    Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello Martin,

    Cable how do you have coming from the back of the tape drive?  If you connected a SAS cable to the two ports at the rear of the car, then it's your problem because you need only the disk IDE oucederomsurlesecondport be wired at the time.

  • Error 39 XP on dat72 tape driver code - cannot install the driver

    Help! In an IBM computer running Windows XP Pro SP 3 I am looking to replace a defective DAT72 IBM (Seagate) drive with another band DAT tape drive - the replacement drive came from Dell, but it's the exact same Seagate drive. For some reason, the new tape drive is first detected as a Seagate drive, then askes for a quantum qdatwin.sys file - the former disc one driver IBM). I downloaded the latest drivers for Quantum, Dell and IBM, and any driver I install I get the same message that "Windows cannot load the driver for this hardware device. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) ». I should mention that when I started this process trhe CD player had mysteriously disappered. I had the Code 39 error on the CD player as well at the time - but not on the tape drive. I went to States support of info on it and choose the "have them fix it" (or whatever it is) and it did fix (problem of CD which is). Now it seems I have the same problem with the Unwinder - but I can't find any info on how to fix this. Also, I tried resdtorign the computer at a checkpoint before the problems started - not question how I chose, I get the same error Windows cannot restore to the restore point - choose another. I tried 7 different restore points with the same results. I ran a full antivirus scan who come clean. Furthermore, I use Acronis backup software that does not all drivers of his own band - it relies on the drivers for the tape drive. Everything worked fine for a good year before it happened. At the end of my rope here.

  • Windows 7 x 64 can't install TUN/TAP driver?

    Hi, I am new to this form, so I'll make this quick. I tried to make a game in Korean, and initially, it worked. I had to use Hotspot shield for a long time, but all of a sudden when I went on the hot spot shield, it wouldn't work. I discovered the reason for this lack of a tun/tap driver. Many people have said I can get a MSVCP120.dll to get and get need me C++ Redist 2013, of which I have now, and it still doesn't work! I tried things like Hotspot shield and OpenVPN all around the world (I mean, in America, given that this used to work) and I cant seem to get one that is installable. I'm on a x 64 bit engine running Windows 7 with 8 GB of ram and the computer I am building has very nice pieces, but I finished it 12/25/13. So, how to fix?
    TL: DR, my 64 bit Windows 7 computer cannot install a TUN/TAP driver. What should I do? Thank you!

    Hi Jacob,

    The question you posted would be better suited in 8 Windows IT pro community that you are a VPN (Hot spot shield) software and try to connect to a game.

    Just spend two-channel SBT is implicitly:

    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARALLELISM 2 BACKUP TYPE TO BACKUPSET;

    or explicitly block execution:

    RUN

      ALLOCATE CHANNEL c1 DEVICE TYPE sbt;
      ALLOCATE CHANNEL c2 DEVICE TYPE sbt;
      BACKUP DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG;
