In WIN7Pro folder options

As a new user of WIN7Pro having just upgraded from WinXP, I could not access the folder options to change the type of program with which open certain files (Viewer Windows, or Notepad etc.) AYONE can help me please?)

To associate programs with file types, the simplest method is to follow the following steps:

  1. Find a file of the type you are interested in (if necessary, turn off "Hide extensions of known file types")
  2. Right-click on the file and select 'Open with', and then select "Choose default program"
  3. Select the program from the "Recommended programs" list or click the Browse button.
    • If you use the Browse button, locate the executable file for the program desired in C:\Program Files\ or C:\Program Files (x 86).
    • You will probably get off multiple levels of folders.  For example, the executable file of Word 2010 is C:\Program Files (x 86) \Microsoft Office\Office14\Winword.exe.
    • If you clicked browse, after clicking on the executable program to select it, click on the button 'open '.
  4. Ensure that there is a check in the box "always use the program selected to open this type of file"
  5. Click OK

  • "new folder" option grayed out

I was organizing my files photo in year folders and subfolders of months on an external portable 1.5 TB harddrive. I've only used less than 1%, so I have a lot of memory still available. Suddenly my "new folder" option is grayed out. How can I get this working again? (The file is available, but I don't want this kind of file.)

You format your drive Seagate for a Mac? It is delivered formatted for Windows and if you are wrong in the installation of the software on the drive, it will be read/write until the software stops, then you will be able to read the disc.

Select the drive, then the get info (cmd - i). See if it says that the format is NTFS. If this is the case, it is formatted for Windows and OS X can only read the drive natively. You can install a third-party software to read and write, but it is apparently not well maintained and seems to fail to update to OS X.

If this is the case, I would say you move the files to another drive and then format the drive as Mac OS extended (journaled), then move the files back.

  • Downloads of Firefox 4.01 files but windows gray downloads on the 'open' and 'Open containing folder' options and I cannot trace files

Three days ago, that I've upgraded to Firefox 4.01. I downloaded several files that were ok. Yesterday and today I downloaded a powerpoint file and a file *.dmg to apple.

On the download window these two files, I can see with the total mb in size. However when I right click in the list of files in the download of the "Open" window and "Open containing folder" options are grayed out. What more I can't find these files anywhere on my computer when I use Windows Explorer to search for.

It seems that this happened after I tried to download a Firefox Add the of http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/addons/64761/amazonassist-0.7.2.6-fx.xpi and my antivirus picked up the horse of Trojan JS/Kryptik.AK and put an end to the connection. Is there a link with the problem that I am facing?

    I use Windows 7 Professional, Firefox 4.01

If these entries are grayed out, then it means that the files are no longer in the original download location. If you don't remove them then anti-virus software or cleaning may have deleted their.

  • Folder options - view the hidden files and folders

    Hello

On this same laptop, there seems to be a problem with * Folder Options - Show hidden files and Folders.*

Every time I have to 'see' this option to display - then I go back to check/confirm the changes - but the box is new 'unchecked '. Despite clicking on apply then Ok to save the changes. The changes are never saved...

I have used other laptops of this same option and it worked fine.

Please indicate if I need to apply or change other settings for this to work?

    Kind regards.

A reasonable explanation from Microsoft for this?
To be honest I have never heard talk about something like that. ?:|

Have you tried to roll back the BONES to the bygone era? Maybe some update is responsible for this.

Hello moomiss, can you advise what operating system you are using?

If Windows 7, you can use Windows Explorer and open a folder and in the upper right corner of the screen and searching Options tab and select the Details option. This should change the selection of detail screen. You would need to perform this procedure on each folder you open only once, and it should stay that way. It can change from time to time, due to Windows, unknown error recovery, but most of the time, it must remain the way which set you.

    Hi K K D,.

    ·         Which application do you use to watch the movie?

    Follow these steps:

    (a) click Start, Control Panel, Options of folders, File Types.

    (b) scroll down to the file extension you want to associate and high brightness.

    (c) now, click on "Change". In the open with dialog box, select the program you want to associate with this extension.

    (d) If you don't see the program you want, click 'Browse' and navigate to the '.exe' file programs, select it and then click on 'OK'.

I want to display hidden files, but the "folder options" icon is not displayed in the Panel, is not available under 'Tools' in the folder.  All the answers as to why?

This can be caused by malicious software.  You should download, install, update and scan with both free scanners:

With XP Home, you are usually asked to boot mode safe... but on the Home version, that Simple file sharing can also be temporarily disabled with a registry change.

  • Why MS never decided that the default folder options / "Hide extensions of known file types" should be active?

original title: a Question about the names of file/folder options

I have a generic question that apply for all recent versions of Windows.

Why MS never decided that the default folder options / "hide known file extensions.

    types of files"should be active?

If file extensions invisible brings no end of confusion to anyone trying to resolve anything.

The first thing I advise in various forums troubleshooting

must * allow * file extensions.  That is so my question - why MS never chosen

Let them invisible by default?  It seems a strange decision - and cause no end of

    confusion.

Because there are a few users who would be accidentally when trying to rename a file change or remove the extension and in doing so the file would not open.  If this post answers your question, click mark as answer .
