Information on Fan PowerConnect 2848

I have a red fan light on my device. Tried searching the forum but no results there. User Guide missing details on other fans that say there are 3.

Hoping someone out there can tell me what size fans are in this unit, so I can be ready to replace without having to take down several times.

Thank you!

Hello

Fans of this switch are not replaceable, the whole switch needs to be replaced.

  • How to go from su mode not supported on Powerconnect 2848?

    Hello

I need swicth managed mode to unmanaged mode on Powerconnect 2848. I pressed the mode button and rebooted but still solid green light it which indicates that swicth still in managed mode.

How can I do this swicth not managed again?

    Thank you

Change the mode switch to the 'managed' to 'mode not supported' clears the configuration of the switch. Change mode "managed" "managed" mode enables graphic management interface and sets the system to the factory settings. There is no way to back up the configuration of the switch.

Always a good idea to be in the current version of the firmware.

To restore the default switch, press the button Mode for two or three seconds and then release. It should then restart on its own, do not manually power cycle it.

    Web Interface method

Open a Web browser and connect to the IP address of the switch management.

Type the appropriate user name and password, and then click OK.

In the left navigation, click the plus sign to expand the system, file management, and then restore the default settings.

    Reset to factory CLI

Reboot the switch, the switch is reset, look for the line to appear that says Autoboot in 2 seconds - press RETURN or Esc to abort and enter prom. and when that happens, press or or to access the start menu.

  • PowerConnect 2848 - several VLANS on the 1 port does not

    Hello everyone.

I have a Dell PowerConnect 2848. My router is a Netgear SRX5308. In the router, I've created several VLANs (VLAN ID 10 and 20) and would that pass to the ESXi server. If I connect the ESXi server directly to the router, everything works as expected. My VMs are picking up correct VLAN based on the parameters of ESXi.

I need the 2848 between the two, because I need to add more devices and other servers with a VLAN specific.

Currently I use port 25 for switch 2848.

I put the switch to managed mode.

    I created switch-> VLAN-> belonging to a VLAN, VLAN ID 10 and 20.

I select 10 VLANS and put the T on port 25.

I select the VLAN 20 and put the T on port 25. (I also tried to put a U on them, just to try, but did not work)

But my virtual computer are not able to reach the DHCP on the router.

    Spanning Tree is enabled.

    I'm obviously missing something...

I have already passed last week banging my head on this, but have not been able to pass traffic along.

    Help, please!

So you're on the right track. If port 25 is facing the router? What port must face the ESXi Server? That port should also have VLAN 10 and 20 should be labelled.

  • Reference Dell PowerConnect 2848 OID for CPU time and memory

    Hi all

This is my first post in this forum. I searched all the messages that can solve my problems, but I could not find so if there is already an existing post and I couldn't find it please guide me to it.

My case is. We have a few Dell PowerConnect 28xx switches in our network. We want to monitor things like the CPU, the temperature, the use of the RAM usage. We use Solarwinds IpMonitor monitoring tool. I downloaded the MIB, I could find the download of Firmware from Dell drivers and downloads page. I went through the entire MIB, but I couldn't find an OID for the foregoing.

So if anyone can help me please what OID is used for usage of CPU and RAM temperature it will really help me.

Please let us know in case we need more information on my side.

    Thank you

  • 2848 hangs at "standalone", managed led flashes

    Hello

"PowerConnect 2848 power on but does not start, crashes at the AUTONOMOUS UNIT", 192.168.2.1 does not. It may be a hardware problem but I would like to try flashing via xmodem - this is a last hope, despite the fact that, initially, I see "Decompressing SW of image-1 100% OK ', then 'mode of operation - mode is managed. HW Polska is 00.00.02.

I tried to enter the Menu of Advanced Start (Shift Ctrl 6) to clear the flash and download the new firmware but switch request password. Does anyone know what is a default password for advanced to 2848 boot menu?

    Thanks in advance!

I apologize, I had touched previously not Ctrl + Shift + 6 when you are connected to the switch in the lab. This time I tried using Ctrl + Shift + 6 and asked for a password. The password that worked for me was "troya". I would like to know if this password works for you. If you continue with this method, be sure to save your serial number, MAC address, you have to reenter this information once you have chosen this option.

You can be able to achieve the same goal with a less invasive method, selecting option 2 in the start menu. This option erases the flash file. Then, you can use option 1 to load the latest firmware.

    Keep us informed.

  • 802. 1 x per MAC address with power connect 2848

    Hello!

I use 'Authentication Port' on my PowerConnect 2848 switch, the RADIUS server is Windows Server 2008 R2.

Workstations authenticated correctly and everything works well.

For my devices VoIP which does not support the RADIUS, I would add the MAC filtering.

    Under Authentication Port-> Port of choose-> Authentication Type, there are 3 options, "802. 1 x only', 'MAC Only' and ' 802.1 x & MAC»

    1. What is the difference between MAC only and MAC & 802. 1 x?

    2. as far as I know, when you use the MAC option in 802. 1 x switch RADIUS one server sending requires authentication with the MAC address in the user name and generate a password in order to create user names on the RADIUS server with this information and filter like this just addresses MAC I agree.

The question is, what is the password to the 2848 sent to the RADIUS server in this situation, use a password that is preconfigured for all authentications of MAC? or it uses the MAC address as password in addition to the user name field?

And additional information on what I'm trying to accomplish would be great,

    Thank you very much!

From my understanding when it is set to 802.1 x & Mac port must first check the device to be compliant, 802. 1 x if it is not then it will try to authenticate using the MAC of a device as the user name and the password. If the MAC address has been placed in the RADIUS database, then it will be able to authenticate.

Unfortunately, it seems that there is no information on fan replacing on the laptop of the G10. These documentations are not for public use, but only for the Toshiba authorized service providers :(

Apart from this fact it s not advisable to disassemble this laptop if you have no experience! During the disassembly process, you could damage the motherboard or something else

  • Satellite M50-PSM53A has the constant fan noise

    Hi all

A year ago I upgraded my Satellite M50 (PSM53A) from Windows XP to Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. I also downloaded the BIOS update for Vista from my region (Australia) Web site so that the BIOS version is now 5.00. However, Toshiba has not last updated BIOS for this model since February 2007 and as a result that my fan is constantly making noise whenever I use the computer (and turn off at all).

The fan sometimes slows down depending on the load of computer work, but is not completely silent and on and blowing out it was Windows XP. In addition, the underside of my computer is not hot as it was on Windows XP, instead the breath fan and no heat is felt on the underside of the laptop. I also changed the settings in the Toshiba Power Saver under power options in Windows Vista, and this does not seem to make a difference in noise levels.

I was wondering if someone could help me with this problem and if anyone knows a BIOS update or if Toshiba will provide a? Because, in all the teething problems, that I had in the upgrade to Vista, it is the only question that I left to correct.

    Kind regards
    -Adrian.

    Hello Adrian

Either a little more realistic and objective s. You have a designed for Windows XP Home edition laptop and now you use the new operating system. I recommend getting some info on Vista and the first interesting info is that Vista uses more resources than the old Windows XP Home edition. More resources mean more pressure on the CPU and other hardware components. The result of higher performance is more heat.

To protect the equipment sensors send information on fan/fans to run and cool the material. So, for me, it's the logical result after installation of Vista. I don't understand why you need this BIOS update should fix this.

BIOS update is designed to install Vista and use of different Toshiba has also designed tools and utilities. I assume that the physical protection is high priority and why to change the values of the fans for Toshiba and may damage the material.

Anyway, if you have installed all try them Toshiba tools use different power plan. For example, use the balanced power plan and define the method to the minimum level of cooling.

On my laptop preinstalled Vista he reduced the activity of fan cooling but the performance is still good and I can work without any problems.

    Good bye

  • xw6400 & xw6600 secret fan: quiet workstations

My best info on tweaking of the workstations xw6400 and xw6600 to run more quietly without increasing the internal temperature when measured with specific utilities has been noticed (and also BIOS) in the xw6600 is attached.

I mention the speed reducers of Noctua fan resistance, 4-wire, and those that work very well for fans of memory and the chipset. Also, I swapped the xw6600 parts in the xw6400 (fans and broadcasters) the advantage of the most recent HP engineering.

Overall my versions optimized for these workstations run as quiet or more calmly than the Z620, at little cost. The 4 speed reducers son PWM-preserving you seek are more easily purchased through a pack of 3 of Noctua, found if you google NA-SRC7. Use one on your memory fan and the other on your chipset fan and fan of memory if you have a xw6600. Other methods of note are more than a project, but I recommend doing at least the addition of the adapter.

    See attachment:

A little added information about fan of little chipset of the xw6600 who run very fast in the xw6600 and is slow. The Northbridge chipset on the xw6400 has only a radiator... not a fan of any other movement of air attracted on the radiator by the memory fan. I saw no deficit of cooling by dropping this 3745 up to 2752 chipset fan speed. About 1 k rpm speed reduction significantly reduced the total noise of work stations, however. The same concept goes for why add a reducer of Noctua 4 son LNA to fan fan speed memory of the xw6600... lower the speed and noise of the fan with no measurable in time of the memory increase, while maintaining the ability of the motherboard to increase the speed of the fan automatically if necessary.

HP uses the PWM controlled EFB0412HD Delta 40x40x20mm which has one - modifier 7R49 (on the label). These modifiers to identify fine details of the fan, and for is this it indicates that control PWM has been added, the wires are short and white connect type conventional PWM.

If you never had to get only a replacement fan 3 son he will run to 12VDC full speed, with no gas HP PWM applied. Here is the RPM:

3-wire (son PWM is unplugged or 3-wire fan): 7500-8500 (measured on several xw6600s)

No adapter and with reference HP PWM applied Butterfly: 3745 (average)

"Adapter 4 son Noctua LNA more reference HP gas: 3101"

"Adapter 4 son Noctua ULNA more reference HP gas: 2752"

Noctua ULNA 4-wire adapters are difficult to get, but at least add in adapters Noctua ULNA NA-RC7 4 wires on your xw6600 fan memory and chipset fan. Those who are easy to find in a 3-pack by searching for "NA-SRC7.

Attached are the specs of the Delta with the version HD of this fan 12VDC highlighted and a pic of the fan with this modifier code on its label.

  • DELL PowerEdge R730 (Gen 13) always 100% fan (16000 RPM +)

    Hello

I have a brand new R730 DELL. Since the time I first started the box, the beginning of fans out to what I consider normal speed, halfway through start, then for as long as the box is enabled, the fans are strong and spinning to their maximum rate 100% or about 16000 RPM. There are 6 fans in this area.

I have updated the BIOS to the latest firmware 2.2.25, I also updated the firmware from LifeCycleController to the last 2.40.40.40.

Dell technician has been there twice to replace 1) all motherboard (motherboard) and the other 2) maps PCI riser (who had the button intrusion).

The server fans still spin 100%.

    I did:

    -the flea power drain

-the IPMI command to turn off cooling for PCIe

-remove all memory but 1 chip in A1 and deleted 8 SSDS.

    Turning always to 100%.

When you look at the installation of the fan to the iDRAC, I can't even set a custom value because the beach is stuck at 100-100%.

There is no additional PCI or PCIe cards installed.

Does anyone have an idea what is happening here. It does not seem right that this fan run at 100% all the time.

Looking at the configuration of the system, the server was shipped with 2 processors Intel Xeon E5-2689 V4. These processors have additional thermal requirements and so RPM fans' will operate 100% as a trade off. Based on this information, the fans run according to the needs.

Please, I'm completely lost, if I can't handle this with dell OpenManage tool, then what?

    Thank you

I'm not expert EP but IIRC, OpenManage allows you simply to see what fans and to manage notification settings when fans behave outside of their speed designated. In other words, you can set how fast you will be informed of an issue or how fast the server will be stopped automatically - nothing more - IIRC.

I'm not too sure how fast a ' normal PE R610 turns her fans, but all depends on what is installed inside the frame, load CPU and ambient temperature. If these details are set out, maybe someone can indicate if your fan speeds are 'normal' for your R610 or if you have a h/w flaw that should be addressed.

In fact, Dell has designed the EP cooling strategy based on their vision of how their machines should be used (in the cooled server room) and based on the guarantee that they provide (years). As a result, Dell provides no tools or methods to manage the logic of the operation of the installed equipment with the speed of the fan which operates between with temperature sensors. This logic is in the BIOS/BMC, and this is a no go area for owners, you can not play with these predefined curves/settings. BIOS and BMC firmware updates can also help to calm your machine if Dell has improved/changed the logic...

That being said, some have found their BMC/BIOS of piracy and the slowest fans workaround in their old machines not supported, see this page of the project and this project page for some insight on what might be involved if you want to go this route not supported...
