Management fan PowerEdge R610 on debian

Hello

I have this server with Dell OpenManage packages installed, R610 srvadmin!--

Now... the server is incredibly STRONG because of the cooling system and regardless of the preset of the tha, I choose the BIOS (Maximum, OS or application Active performance) coolers are always + 8000 RPM.

I've been Googling all day to see if I can manage it but no luck, when I try to set the value using the tool of OpenManage cli I get:

chassis root@test:~# omconfig fans index = 0 warnthresh = default
Error! Fan threshold setting unavailable for default index: 0.

And that's how fans are looking like now:

root@test:~# omreport chassis fans

.. And so on, all the same.

Please, I'm completely lost, if I can't handle this with dell OpenManage tool, then what?

Thank you

I'm not expert EP but IIRC, OpenManage allows you simply to see what fans and to manage notification settings when fans behave outside of their speed designated. In other words, you can set how fast you will be informed of an issue or how fast the server will be stopped automatically - nothing more - IIRC.

I'm not too sure how fast a ' normal PE R610 turns her fans, but all depends on what is installed inside the frame, load CPU and ambient temperature. If these details are set out, maybe someone can indicate if your fan speeds are 'normal' for your R610 or if you have a h/w flaw that should be addressed.

In fact, Dell has designed the EP cooling strategy based on their vision of how their machines should be used (in the cooled server room) and based on the guarantee that they provide (years). As a result, Dell provides no tools or methods to manage the logic of the operation of the installed equipment with the speed of the fan which operates between with temperature sensors. This logic is in the BIOS/BMC, and this is a no go area for owners, you can not play with these predefined curves/settings. BIOS and BMC firmware updates can also help to calm your machine if Dell has improved/changed the logic...

That being said, some have found their BMC/BIOS of piracy and the slowest fans workaround in their old machines not supported, see this page of the project and this project page for some insight on what might be involved if you want to go this route not supported...

    I have:

    PowerEdge R610 PERC 6i

    3 x 146 GB SAS RAID 5

    OS: Hyper-v Server 2008 r2

I just added three more 146 GB SAS drives

How to expand the RAID 5 from there?

I was reading up on managing open but have not seen a clear passage until you get it the best way to operate.  Thanks in advance.

In OMSA, go to storage, PERC, virtual disks and select Reconfigure in the drop-down list of tasks available for your RAID 5.  It will start a wizard, through the addition of the new drives in your RAID 5.

Physical disks must show as the first LOAN (if the display of Foreign Affairs, which must be cleared before you can do anything - storage, PERC, Information/Configuration, foreign/erase in the menu drop-down for the controller).

  • ASR PowerEdge R610 power defined at last but autostart

Last week we had a power failure regular and a PowerEdge R610 Rev II BIOS 6.4.0 server has been stopped since in Windows 2008 R2 cleanly.

Power was cut to electricity works and then restored about an hour later.

The server then started by itself, I checked the relevant setting in the BIOS and it's on last for AC power recovery.

Is this normal? The server was closed when current was cut off so my expectation would be that she would remain offshore until it is started manually, via the DRAC or on site.

The main issue is that the power was then cut again, this server has been turned off correctly by the UPS software and then turn it back on again when the power supply has been restored, which is good to know that worked well. But the server would have to stay really off for the night.

The server is ON before the login admin to open a charge tap down. It is the last power state of the system. Test the same steps with the AC Power Recovery mode set to Off and see what happens. The system must remain in the disabled State.

  • Is it possible to connect two DELL PowerVault MD3200 single PowerEdge R610 Rack Server

We have the SQL cluster with two nodes (the two PowerEdge R610 Rack Server) connected to the DELL PowerVault MD3200. As we are short on space, the idea came to add additional DELL PowerVault MD3200 to the cluster. Is this possible?

    Hello, IPM.

Yes, you can add an another MD3200 to your R610 server & get both to work.  As you run lack of space, you can also simply add a MD1200 if just needing space as the MD1200 is cheaper than a MD3200.  The MD1200 will connect via your MD3200 sas & can provide you with the additional disk space if that's what you're looking for.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Hello-

Anyone know how to upgrade R610 so that I can install 2012 from the BIOS?

I tried as 'other' to F10 and it failed with pilot errors. I tried to update the firmware with the management of the ISO and the same thing happened.

Is there a method I'm missing?

    Thank you

    Princesly,

The R610 takes in 2012. You tried to start directly on the support of 2012? Looks like you were trying to use a Dell OS installation disc.

What happens when you start Media?

Also, have you tried to install it using the lifecycle controller (F10 on screen Dell)?

  • Upgrade memory PowerEdge R610

    Hi all

I have so few R610s I want to upgrade the memory on. I have read the documentation I found to support, but I'm still a little confused. They are all single-processor (the A side) with six 2 GB DIMMS. (12 GB total) I need to upgrade to 20-24GB. If I read things, I can't use the B side, since there is no processor... What would be the best way to do this and there at - it most clear documentation on how memory banks/channels work? I read that this is a difference where you are installing the module DIMM (A1 A2 A3, etc), but I couldn't understand this past. I've also read that if you use all 6 on one side, it decreases the speed of the bus at 800 mhz. Is this correct? I appreciate any help!

    Thank you!

    Hello

With BIOS update 1.1.4 it supports two DIMMs per channel at 1333. Given that the system has only two DIMMs in each channel, it will run at full speed with all slots populated. So to get to the memory quantity you need six 4 GB DIMMS. FTP://FTP.Dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_poweredge/PowerEdge-r610_Owner%27s%20Manual2_en-us.PDF

  • Looking to replace a RAID in older (UCS-61) with a new (UCP-51) Perc 5i controller on a PowerEdge r610 server...

    Hello world

I'm looking to get RAID 5 in an old R610 capabilities we have laying around. The new controller seems to be compatible with the server and he knows well. Whenever I start the server with the new Perc 5i card it gives me:

"Invalid pcie card found in the internal storage location.

    System stopped! »

Is there a step in this process I am missing? This is my first time doing something like this and get beat. If I put the old controller to back in or no controller at all, it starts without a problem. I've updated the BIOS BIOS server Dell R610 version 6.4.0.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The PERC 5 is not supported on the R610.  You need the PERC 6 / i.  The PERC 5 might work, but you cannot use it in the location of storage dedicated; you will need to try another location PCIe.

  • PowerEdge R610 - Event log: unexpected error sense

    Hello

One of my clients PowerEdge servers had an unexpected shutdown over the weekend. It came immediately after a few minutes, VMs were all running, etc. I checked the logs and noticed that it was an error that read:

    Event log: feel unexpected: Encl. PD 20 path 5842b0b045d63200, PEH: 12 00 00 00 04 00, meaning: 24/05/00: 0 controller (PERC 6 / i integrated)

Is - this error is something worrying? Just want to make sure that the server is not dying or something.

    Thank you!

It's usually nothing that should be worried. 'PD 20' is usually the bottom of basket.  If you are still concerned with it, I would recommend that you check your basket and PERC firmware/driver is up to date.

I also suggest the OpenManage double-check to ensure that you are not read any questions about records and double check your battery status.
