  Try the steps below to uninstall the existing entries to printer and software.

  Note: Make sure that the printer is not connected to the PC by USB.

  1. Press Win + R to open a window to RUN.
  2. in the window RUN, type %temp%
  3. Opens a window of time, and you will see a list of file names starting with 7z...
  4. Open who has the printer name in it, and then look for the name of the folder UTIL > CCC,
  5. then search for uninstall L3.bat and double-click it to run it.

  Once the uninstall is complete, reboot the PC.

  Now run the HP printer Installation Wizard to install the printer s/w.

  The recovery discs are for the particular computer, they came with.

  If your computer is pre-installed with Vista, it is classified as an OEM license and is not transferable.

  The license of Vista OEM is related to the original computer it is installed on and dies with the computer.
  You cannot transfer it to another computer/laptop

  To answer your question, update usually retains your personal data (bookmarks, passwords recorded, etc.).   I had to reinsall Windows 7 (64-bit) and am trying to install the drivers.  I first tried the latest driver, but there was an error of installation, so I tried the base driver and the same error came.  I ran a disk check and its not finding the problems of difficulty.  Any suggestions?

  I found the problem finally.  HP requires you to have your registry database, set Program Files directory on your C: drive.  After I re-installed windows because I don't want things to my SSD, I've changed the default value.  It is a ridiculous failure in HP software.
