  (1) I formatted the HARD drive and reinstalled the operating system of * Windows 7 x 64 Ultimate SP1 *.

  Then I downloaded * ONLY the BIOS and drivers * of [his downloads page | http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/computers/satellite/p750/psay3a-02t001/download?os=25]:

  (2) I've updated the BIOS for * v1.90* (the laptop came with v1.80)

  (3) I have installed all drivers:
  -LAN and WiFi
  -Chipset Intel latest (available)
  -all video drivers (NVIDIA Graphics, Intel HD Graphics and Intel HDMI)
  -Card reader
  -Realtek HD Audio (later)
  -Synaptics Touchpad
  -USB3.0
  -IR
  TV tuner
  However, I * cannot install Bluetooth driver (v8.00.06 (T) *)...

  I installed on a cutting and not because the automatic switch works because it isn't always. It came with a remote control that is almost as good, so don't mind the fact that automatic switching does not work well.   Realtek Audio Driver
  HD SRS Premium Sound Technology
  ATI HDMI Audio Driver
  Synaptics Touch Pad Driver
  AMD USB filter driver
  Realtek driver LAN wireless
  Filter driver package Realtek Bluetooth
  Realtek LAN Driver
  Realtek card reader
  TOSHIBA system driver
  And then continue to install the utilities and the specific tools of Toshiba.

  I suggest you to uninstall all the audio drivers from the computer.

  And the answer is: I had installed the latest drivers (and thanks to response above realize did not need graphics driver, although the HP site indicated as well), BUT the HDMI audio driver does not appear until I plugged in the TV, duh... I was not expecting to see the disconnected HDMI option  Once I have connected to the TV, it seemed. Subsequently, it does not show as a disconnected option.

  Lesson learned: after reinstallig, connect to the TV.

I was completely baffled because the audio was working perfectly fine before the upgrade to Windows 8.1. I tried several solutions posted on other forums, such as install other drivers and uninstall the IDT High Definition Audio Driver and then scan for hardware changes. I checked the HDMI cable and it works very well with the other laptop.

  Device Manager is needle 2 device:

  IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

  When I open the properties of the audio device high definition, that is to show:
