Install Windows 7 on Vista

When I try to install windows 7 on my system, I get an error of 0x3e7 autorun.dll. Any help on how to set it to get a clean install. I got the victory & drive upgrade to Dell as part of a set of improvements that was available when I bought my PC.

An upgrade should be done out in a Vista operating system.

You can make one in place-setting day (repair install) using the dvd.  Who reinstall Windows, but does not remove your programs, drivers and files.  You should back up your data first just in case.

The dvd must be equal to the same service pack level or higher than the windows that you fix.  Check the label on the dvd to see if includes a service pack.  If this isn't the case, you must uninstall service packs on your system before you begin.  Subsequently, you will need enable back again to Windows Update.

Start the in place--update by inserting the dvd while the office is running.  Click on install now on the start screen, enter your product key when asked and choose install upgrade when the Setup Type selection screen appears.

Until you do, you can run the System File Checker, because it can replace the files with the right that are cached on your damaged system.  Click Start, type "cmd" in the search/Run box and right-click on the CMD icon at the top of the results pane.  Select run as administrator.  When the cmd window type "sfc/scannow" at the prompt and press ENTER.  When the scan is finished, close the cmd window.  Reset.  That can solve your problem without having to reinstall.  It can not but its worth a shot.

    Hi Rachel 30,.

We would like to get a better understanding of this issue, so we can better help not only you but other users with similar problems.

Did you run the compatibility check before installing windows 7?

You try to upgrade or perform a new installation?

What are the games you try to uninstall and you uninstall them completely?

    Method 1:

Download and installation of the Upgrade Advisor. Read the following article.

    Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

    http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=1b544e90-7659-4BD9-9e51-2497c146af15

Once you have downloaded install Upgrade Advisor and run it on the system.

    Method 2:

Before you install Windows 7 you should check if the system is compatible or not.

    1. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the DVD drive.

    2. click the installation option, after the system automatically checks the compatibility and it generates a report.

You see an error message in the report?

If Yes, then what is the error message you get?

If you want to perform a new installation of the backup of your data and follow method 2.

    Method 3:

If this does not work then you may need to perform a clean installation. Follow the steps mentioned below.

Warning: In a clean installation, existing data will be deleted. These data include settings and personal data. Back up your data before you perform a new installation. After installing the operating system, you must also reinstall all programs.

    Step 1:

Perform a new installation of Windows 7 by starting the computer from the Windows 7 Vista

Note The computer must be configured to start from the DVD drive. For more information on the configuration of the computer to start from the DVD drive, see the documentation provided with your computer. Or contact the manufacturer of the computer.

To perform a new installation of Windows 7 by starting the computer from the Windows 7 DVD, follow these steps:

    1. start the computer.

    2. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the DVD drive, and then close the drive tray.

    3. restart the computer.

    4. When you receive the message "Press any key to boot from CD", press a key.

    5. follow the instructions to install Windows 7.

If Windows 7 is now running on your computer, you have completed the installation successfully.

To begin troubleshooting, follow these steps:

    1. Make sure that Device Manager is open, and that the device that has the problem is selected. You can perform certain resolutions recommended by the Device Manager.

      1. Right-click my computerand then click Properties.
      2. Select the hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
      3. Double-click the type of device that has the problem. For example, if you have problems with your modem, double-click Modems to see the devices in that category.

A list of devices appears. If a device has problems, the unit has a red exclamation mark next to it. If a device is unknown (usually because of missing drivers), the device has a yellow question mark next to it.

      4. Right click on the device that has the problem, and then click Properties. This opens the device properties dialog box. You can see the error code in the State of the device of this dialog box.
    2. Use the Troubleshooting Wizard, if it is available, to help you diagnose and solve your problem.
      1. In the device properties dialog box, click the general tab.
      2. Click troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard. The wizard will ask a few simple questions and provides a solution to your problem, based on the answers you provide. If the Troubleshooting Wizard is not available, go to step 3.
      3. Follow the resolution steps provided by the wizard to resolve the problem.
      4. Check the device status of the device properties dialog box to see if the error is resolved. If the error is resolved, you are finished. Otherwise, go to step 3.
    3. If the Troubleshooting Wizard does not have you helped to solve your problem or was not available, search for your error code in this article.

In an attempt to solve a problem, using all the help I could find online and in help, I somehow ended up with 3 drives (C, whose space is very low) (D, which it WAS, the original disc and only) and the so-called ' Simple Drive (I think) which is only unallocated space.» Is not a computer scientist, I am to the point that I want to uninstall Vista, then reinstall it. Can I install and older version of the Windows operating system, eliminate everything, then reinstall Vista 'strictly '? I don't want to create havoc more than I already have! Thanks for any help.

    Hi PCPuzzle,

Please take a look at the following article regarding the installation of Vista.  In particular, please go through the section onThe Windows Installation by performing a clean Installation:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista

In the instructions, don't forget to go through step 1 that talks about installing from the disk and step 7 which addresses your partition problems, where to install, delete etc.

    I hope this helps!
