Install XP from USB (mini netbook, notebook)

can I install XP from a USB key or USB hard drive.
I see things on the internet about third-party utilities to do. but then I see other places where it says that it cannot be done.

If this is not the case, what people are doing with no CD or DVD drive to install/reinstall windows?

Too risky and complicated.
I'll try to install XP pro or Ubuntu Server if possible. Is this possible?

  • x131e install Win10 from USB?

I'm trying to install 10 Windows from a USB key (created via the Microsoft Web site) and I can't find a way to get the computer to recognize it.

In the BIOS it has options to boot from a USB HDD, USB FD and CD USB. Move one of these to the top command of the start menu does not work. By pressing f12 displays a menu with 3 X entrances to start Windows, one for the hard drive (which is an empty SSD) and a network boot option. But there is no USB option. Displacement of the USB to USB2 and USB3 ports makes no difference.

Is there a way to get the computer to boot from the USB key to install Windows 10?

Or do I have to download an ISO of 10 Windows to create a CD and use an external USB CD/DVD drive?

Thanks for any help on this.

  • Cannot re - install Windows7 from USB key created with Dell Datasafe Local Backup

    Hello

I created Dell Datasafe Local Backup recovery media and stored on a USB key.

However my laptop Dell Inspiron has only USB 3.0 ports so when I try to boot on the USB it tells me: "cannot find the image of system recovery. "If you try to restore your pc from a USB 3.0 (blue) USB Port please connect to another USB Port, restart your PC and try Recovery.

If my laptop has no former USB 2 ports and, apparently, Windows 7 doesn't come with native support USB 3 so how can I re - install my system using the USB that I made Dell Datasafe Local backup?

I tried to make a set of Dell Datasafe DVD, but it is not I think that there is a bug in the routine of Datasafe Local Backup DVD recovery media.

Am I better off Dell asking to send me a re-installation OEM DVD set? How would I do that?

    Thank you.

First of all try to change this setting in the BIOS Setup disable USB 3.0 features to install Windows 7 from a USB Flash drive

Regarding the DVD of Reinstalaltion demand that I recommend. For US customers, there is a relocation brackets online application form. For customers not in the United States, you will need to contact Dell's technical support and ask for one. Customer numbers are available here. Once you have the DVD of resettlement follow my wiki A Clean install of Windows 7. If you have problems requesting the vote of reinstallation DVD on the poll here.

-I'm using the USB 2.0 ports (not 3.0) and I tried to a switch port to others as some nets has suggested, but that has not worked. (Ref my Mo is a MSI Z170I)

-Ive also confirmed that my BIOS is set to AHCI (non-RAID)

Any ideas of what I could try to fix this or what Im missing drivers?

Also, when I try to review for the drivers I see only a X: drive that does not have the same directories as on my USB key. For example, I downloaded the drivers SATA of MSI and copied on USB to see if that helps. But when I try to search for it I can not even find the files. Does this mean that my USB is not detected?

    Thank you

See if that helps the z170 and Skylake use xhci instead of ahci, so you will need a creative tool special iso usb.

  • How to install Windows XP on my NetBook via USB

Can you tell me how to install Windows XP on my NetBook via USB as there is no CD to my Samsung N100 NetBook?

Go to the Samsung's Web Site, click on the "Support" link and find/download a manual for your computer.  Somewhere in the manual (sometimes in the appendix) the procedure of installing Windows XP on your model will be explained.  However, having said all that, my bet on the response from Richard Harper and you will probably have to you beg/borrow/steal/buy an external USB CD-ROM drive.

A key USB bootable you have created by recovery media creator?

Go into the BIOS, use the tab of the System Configuration.

    Enable Legacy Support.

Plug the USB key into one of the usb ports.

Press the F10 key to save the changes and exit.

Now, press the F9 key to select the first boot option.

You should see the USB key as one of the options if it is in fact a bootable flash drive.

  • NB100 - Recovery vs iso from usb DVD

    Hello!

I bought Toshiba NB100 with pre-installed XP Home Edition and now I want to reinstall it using Toshiba Recovery DVD I got with the netbook.
The problem is that I have no DVD player in this laptop and I don't want to buy a scanner of the Clerkship - here's what I did to start an iso image of this dvd from USB:

    1. first of all, I did an iso image of the recovery DVD Toshiba using UltraISO app (and called it TOSHIBA.iso) - I checked the image in one of the virtual machines: all went well so I think the image is ok
    2. I used GRUB4DOS app to make my folder of grldr bootable, copied to usb stick to the root of my USB catalogue, created from images of boot/path/and copied it my TOSHIBA.iso image and created the menu.lst looking like this:

    TOSHIBA recovery DVD title
    find--set-root /boot/images/TOSHIBA.iso
    map - mem /boot/images/TOSHIBA.iso (hd32)
    map - hook
    chainloader (hd32)
    rootnoverify (hd32)

The menu.lst file has been placed in the catalogue of the root of the USB.

3 then I rebooted netbook, changing the order of startup in the BIOS and GRUB was loaded with option of TOSHIBA Recovery DVD - but when I chose him, after the ISO is loaded into memory, I get GRUB error 19 with the message "can not mount selected partition".

I would be very grateful if you could tell me what I'm doing wrong.
    Kind regards
    Artur

Hey Artur thank you very much
It's a very useful experience and I hope that other NB100 owners will be happy to read your thread.
Thanks again and I hope you say with us and help other NB100 owners with advice and tips.

    BTW:
You can now install from USB recovery image?
Do you use the compatibility mode or it works with AHCI mode also?

  • Satellite L30 - 11 d: update Bios to boot from USB

    I have a Satellite L30 11(d) bought Sept 07.

I'm interested in trying to boot from USB, at the present time, my bios does not.
I am looking to update my bios. There is a updated bios updated for me to download (3.10WIN).

    I have 3 questions:

    (1) 3.10WIN allows to boot from USB?

    (2) is 3.10WIN related to the use of MS Vista? (Looking at this article , it seems that the new phoenix / toshiba bios only allows panoramas...?)

    (3) how to settle?

(with ubuntu 7.10 works well... aside from the sound)

    As to the question;

    (1) No, it is not possible to boot from a memory stick USB HDD or USM

    (2) each BIOS for each series of Toshiba notebook is different! Please don t no matter what other laptop computer BIOS or fixed PCs. Satellite L30 - 10 d belongs to the series of the 3,10 and PSL33E BIOS is OS independent. If your laptop comes with XP then the BIOS supports XP completely. Of course, you can try to install Vista but it is possible that some features of the laptop as FN keys will be does not work

    (3) the BIOS should always be done in the Windows operating system. As you can see on the page of the Toshiba driver the BIOS version is called 3.10Win - version

  • How to install eRecovery CDs on a netbook without CD/DVD disc?

The eRecovery system implies that the user will be sent either CD or USB with software based on the system.  Well I got the CD to install on my netbook Aspire One AO722 who doesn't have a DVD/CD player.  So now what should I do?

Well, if you have the recovery disc, then you should be able to get an external SIDE and then run them after entering the BIOS and the boot priority to boot from USB.

  • Can't boot from USB-DM1-4020sa

    Hello

I just bought a HP DM1 Netbook AMD E-450 (4020sa).  I'm just getting started get the configuration of the computer and try to run through some diagnostics to make sure that the material is good.  I have created a 16GB bootable USB key with Memtest on it, formatted FAT32.  Works quite well on my desktop.

However, for the life of me I can't figure out how to boot from USB on the netbook!  I tried to change the boot order, updated the BIOS, trying all 3 USB ports.  Nothing works!

To the first pressing ESC then F9 for the start menu gave me 2 options, one to boot from USB to boot from the hard drive.  I could not choose the USB, it was selected on the hard drive of permenantly.  Now, I don't see the option at all!

I'm considering installing Win7 x 64, Ubuntu and in future Win8... so I need to know a USB booting is possible on this netbook.

    Help, please!  Thank you!

Well, although Memtest86 + v4.20 is supposed to support AMD E-series processors, maybe this doesn't completely still.  I created a key Reader USB with the ISO of Windows 7 x 64, following the instructions of Ars Technica and has worked without any problems whatsoever.

Anyway, do not know why the Memtest86 + won't work, but eh... Well.  The laptop can boot from USB.
