Install XP Mode on a separate partition.

When you install XP Mode in Windows 7, you have to install on the same partition as the Windows 7 operating system, or you can install it on a separate partition?

The vhd in programfiles basis cannot be moved or renamed, if done, xp mode stops at the start.

To move the files under c, first to boot xp, instead of save mode the machine virtual., turn it off. (settings to prompt the user for action narrow close). Close the machine virtual., and then choose stop. This will remove the vsv file. Do not delete the .vsv file because it contains data if you have not registered in the virtual machine.

Now, move it "C:\Users\CHRIS.domainname\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows virtual PC\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Mode.vhd" to a desired location.

Parameters of xp mode open, go to the hard drive 1 setting and reposition the hard drive to the new location of the vhd. You should now be able to start the virtual machine.

I currently have Windows XP pro installed. (I have XP pro OS here too install disc) Is it possible to install again but at an another partition/disk? (So I have XP installed on a partition, then installed again on another partition create 2 places to start from).

And if I install using twice the same XP install disc, pourrais I update one of them using a Windows Vista ultimate upgrade disc?

(That leaves me with XP pro on one partition and Windows Vista on another.)

    Am I allowed to do?

    De : [Antonio Feitosa]

It is possible and perhaps even legal.  As the 2 operating systems are on the same machine, they cannot run at the same time. You have the right to run XP pro on a single machine. You also have the right to run Windows Vista on a machine using Windows Vista AND XP licenses and the license of Windows Vista is an updrage one.

The legal concept is the "notion of open book" in the sense that you can not open a book in two places or two pages at the same time.

Since the machine is the same, you can run Windows Vista or XP using the start menu.

But to get this work may require a boot manager other than BCDEdit, or use a 3rd Setup disk borrowed from someone. Or to play a few rounds with bcdedit and maybe partition software mgmt...

Because the partition scheme changed since you created this image system, you would not be able to give another partition. You will receive and error message indicating that it is not the same.

  • Can I have both Yosemite and El Capitan, installed on separate partitions on my Macbook Pro?

I want to upgrade my Macbook Pro (Intel Core i7 2.8 GHz, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3) to El Capitan. However, I have an important piece of the software - Avid Pro Tools HD 11 - which runs on Yosemite, but not on El Capitan. Can I create two partitions, each containing one of these two operating systems and then choose to start the partition of Yosemite, when I need to use Pro Tools? If so, how should I do this? Is there a support article, I can read to help me? Can you Yosemite partition contain only the BONES of Yosemite, and the rest are on the other partition? Thank you.

Yes, you can run them both. I guess the process is similar to this:

Having two OSs on separate partitions is like owning two computers, they are completely separate. You want to see in the two places will have to literally be in two places. Copy the files from one OS to another will be facilitated by a USB stick as if it were two separate machines, for example.

  • How to install XP from the CD on a separate partition recovery?

    Hello

I installed Windows Vista on my laptop satellite. What I want to do now is install the original (with xp family) on another partition configuration. Is this possible using the recovery disk? Or is the drive recovery automatically any format the hard drive?

    Hello

Well, I think that this should be possible. The recovery CD Toshiba Windows XP should provide an additional option (IE expert mode) choose partition.

First of all I recommend you create a new partition in Vista. This is possible in disk management.
Here, you can reduce the disk HARD size (first size the partition where Vista is installed) and on the open space (rest size HARD disk), you can create and activate the second partition.

After this procedure, you can boot from the Toshiba XP Recovery CD and try to install it on the new created partition.

  • Re: Qosmio X 870 - Win8 on a separate partition

    Hello
I have a Qosmiox870 and that means that I also have a Microsoft windows8 (OEM) product key

I have problems with conflicting devices drivers... and to grow the best way, I need to install a new fresh windows8 version on a separate partition. So on 1 windows I have 1 driver installed on the other windows of the second driver... so I just choose to start windows witch I need while I'm working.

BUT... I don't have an ISO for windows... I was just able to create 3 recovery DVD with the backup software pre-installed in Toshiba.

I can't download windows 8 from the microsoft Web site, because the product key I have is a Windows OEM,... to prevent people from abusing OEM, microsoft product only allows you to download the windows 8 ISO...

So where can I get an iso of Windows that would work with my key?

Toshiba offers notebooks with Windows preinstalled. It's not only BONE. It is the recovery image that contains the OS, drivers, tools and utilities. It is a kind of package. Preinstalled recovery image is activated and should not be enabled also.

Every laptop owner should create the installation of recovery disk with pre-installed software. On this point, the story ends there.
Toshiba does not provide any recovery by downloading image, and you can't get original recovery iso file as image. No morals and Toshiba. All you can get is original install disc of recovery, but you can create it yourself.

Your key belongs to the recovery image pre-installed so that you cannot use in case you try to install Win8 using original installation of Microsoft disk.

If your hard drive has enough free disk space, you can install a newer version of Windows on a separate partition and keep the earlier version of Windows on your computer. It's called a multiboot or dual-boot configuration. Every time that you start your computer, you can choose which version of Windows to run.

I'll run CS6 and MC6 Avid on the same machine (iMac) and thought it would be a good idea to put them on separate partitions to avoid conflict.  Avid apparently MUST be on the system (boot) partition... CS6 can be installed on a partition of internal drive without starting?

It can, but shared components will be will always find in your Application Support folder and library, so it's a moot point. you try to avoid something you can't influence.

One way would be to start the Firefox Profile Manager in each Linux instance and that it points to a profile of another Firefox installation folder, preferably one that has been customized in a satisfactory manner. You can then delete the profile by default in every Linux installation.

  • HP recovery discs will allow me to install Windows 7 on a different partition?

    Hello world

I intend on creating a system in multiboot on my HP laptop.  If all goes well, it will run Windows 7, Ubuntu 11.04 and the beta version of Windows 8 when it comes out.  Given that I do a partitioning to make it work, I'll have to reinstall Windows 7.  I wonder if the HP recovery discs will allow me to install Windows on a specific partition or is it just change to factory settings, install Windows 7 and destroy my partitioning work?

Here are my relevant features (although I doubt it's important):

    HP Pavilion dv6-3210us Entertainment PC

    Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1, 64-bit

    Hello

The recovery disks, everything will just return to go back to the factory setting, clear all custom partitions that you may have created.  A round way, that it would be to reinstall Windows 7, remove the recovery partition which will be re-created (and possibly the HP_TOOLS if this applies in your case) and to use the own windows utility to create an Image disk and that record to an external drive.  This can at least give you the option to restore the Image of a selected partition, if you need to.

    Kind regards

  • Installed Windows on the bad disk partition (C :) and meant for the recovery disc (e :)))

    Hello world

My question is that I installed windows vista on the wrong partition. When I tried to do a re-install for partition recovery (e), I saw that the drive (C :) local was still installed with my last error when I first installed it on drive C: (OS) that is full. I didn't want to do, that I was going for the recovery disk (E :).

If I re - install windows on the recovery disk now, he will have to complete partitions. I'm just completely start over as if I first had an empty space to install an OS right the first time around when choosing the right partition.

It is on a latitude D630, where the BONE was full and the Data 2 which is the recovery disk (e) has free space that should have (c).

Any help is grateful, thank you.

Make sure that the important data that you have on the drive is backed up.

  • Successfully installed XP Mode, but is not "Windows XP Mode" in the folder "Windows Virtual PC"...

Successfully, I installed XP Mode and the VPC and ran the first time very well. I installed a few programs and quit smoking. Now, I have a Windows Virtual PC folder in my Start menu. It has shortcuts to launch the programs that I have already installed and they work fine, but there is no way to start XP Mode in its own window that it was when I ran, so I can not install anything else.

All the info I've found say to select Start-> all programs-> Windows Virtual PC-> Windows XP Mode. However, in the installation of this entry is not. The only thing there is another folder containing the apps I had installed the first time.

Please offer suggestions for the restoration of the facility.

    Thank you.
