Installation CD, WRT54G2

I feel some time get an answer for this.

I ordered a WRT54G2 router to my network home.  We have a satellite, wired computer 1 and 2 laptops and a connection console Xbox 360 with wireless connections.  My 3 year old WRT54G worked up to lately, even if a firmware upgrade a couple of days can extend his life a little.

I read that Netmagic software comes with the WRT54G2 installation CD.  A reviewer of Amazon.ca said his network has been "hijacked" by this software, he was not happy with it.  All I want to know is: if I run the installation CD, will be Netmagic installed on my system, or is this an option that I CHOOSE in order so that it can be installed?  Same question for the security trend software.

On my old router, there is an OPTION to install the Norton firewall, which I did not choose.

So... when pop you in the installation CD WRT54G2, what do you see on the screen?  There are screenshots somewhere?

I don't want any additional software installed, I just want to the router and keep my current settings of the network and security.

Thanks in advance for the answers.

As I've seen with Network Magic Software, when you run the installation of the router software, it automatically installs the network Application of Magic. I used to recommend when I was a technical support agent has been set up the router manually through its website based GUI. But if you're not familiar with routers GUI installation, then by running the software is very good, but after all is installed, you will need to then uninstall Network Magic via-> All & Remove Programs Control Panel.

  • problem installation WRT54G2

I just bought a new router wrt54g2 and Dell inspiron laptop and keep implementing stalled the installation with 'ethernet cable connection error' guests. All connections by modem, router and computer are tight. I can 'ping' the router successfully and have tried other cables ethernet with the same result.  The control panel of the computer says that the ethernet works correctly. All the lights are on on the router. Y at - it no other check/try? or can I set up my wireless router? I hate to use it without warranty for my network.

Throw the installation CD it doesn't help.  To connect through a cable to 192.168.1.1 to your router with empty user name, admin password.  Manually configure your router.  Once done, you can configure your connection wirelessly with security.

  • Help installation WRT54G2

I recently to plug a new WRT54G2 after the death of my faithful WRT54. I installed my old 54G a few times before, never through the use of the CD (it's unnecessary), so I thought it would be a fairly easy installation. I copied my old router settings (192.168.2.1 etc.) but I was not able to get a connection to the internet. I use a modem RTA1320. Now for the strange part... I was able to connect to "Steam", the game by the WRT54G2 like Skype application. Because of that I thought that the problem could be with a pesky anti-virus or firewall, so I disabled both (including the windows firewall), nothing helps. According to cisco Network Magic program, I am connected to the internet, but I failed to connect with firefox, internet explorer or google chrome (I deleted all browsing history, cookies etc...). I restarted both modem the router again, but I am confused. I'm sure it's a mistake to simple configuration on my part, but it seems very strange that I can connect correctly to steam and to play online with Team Fortress 2 (cannot download good maps) and yet I can not connect to the internet through a wired connection or wireless on a vista desktop and laptop XP computer. Can someone give me a hand? (I'll try to restart again after this post and it will probably work ^-^)

Just as I predicted, I have reset to the default values (something I had not done) and it worked. I myself used reverse physcology.

  • Second installation WRT54G2 Error321

I bought my router, WRT54G2 yesterday n it has installed and worked fine. But today, when I reinstall the router using the Setup Wizard from linksys easylink, he met 321 (ethernet cable not found) error. I skipped that and install the LELA. LELA shows there is a router and so I can not use LELA. I search the Web and they suggested to open IE and browse to 192.168.1.1, but I can not enter. Can someone nice enough to help me?

    Thanks in advance.

There is no need to re - install the router if it is already installed... If you were to add another computer to your existing network, just connect it with an ethernet cable and it needs to connect to the internet...

If you were to add a wireless computer to your existing network, simply locate your wireless network (ssid) and enter your WEP/WPA Key(if any) and it should connect.

No need to run the CD/LELA to add another computer...

However, if you are unable to access the web interface of the router, it is possible that the IP address of your router has changed something else and isn't so more 192.168.1.1... Well, you still have Internet?

To find the IP address of your router, you must leave a computer connected to the router, then, click on start > all programs > Accessories > guest... A black box will appear (command prompt)... In the command prompt window type ipconfig and press "Enter"... Look for Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection address IP, subnet mask, and default gateway...

The default gateway address is the IP address of your router...

    To access the web interface-

Open an Internet Explorer browser on your computer (desktop) wired page. In the address bar, type the address of a default gateway (just type numbers, do not type http/www) and press ENTER. Let the empty user name & password use admin lowercase... This should give you the router web interface...

  • Installation of Verizon FIOS Internet/TV with WRT54G2

Great, I finally got to work!  Thank you very much!!  For anyone who is trying to add a Linksys router for your FIOS TV/Internet connection and have your Linksys as principal and still have your FIOS widgets/guide/VOD to work, please read below:

1.) wireless disable and DHCP on the AT

2.) release the IP address of the WAN Interface on AT and then turn off.

3.) Linksys to connect instead of AT

4.) renew IP Linksys address and check the connectivity

    IMPORTANT STEP
5.) change of Linksys IP to 192.168.1.2 (something else as 192.168.1.1, which is the IP of your router.  Restart the Linksys.

6.) connect the cable to the LAN Port (1-4) on Linksys LAN Port (1-4) on AT.

7.) power on AT and confirmed you can connect to 192.168.1.1.  Now you should be able to connect to both routers respectively by typing the IP into a browser (192.168.1.1 = AT and 192.168.1.2 = Linksys).

8.) TV receiver reboot by disconnecting the work of Widgets/Guide/VOD device and make sure that.  In addition, if you check the DHCP table on your Linksys, you should now see that the Linksys assigned IP to your receiver cable (IP STB).

It's her! everything should work. IF anyone has problems and needs help, let me know.  THANKS again ONCE abandoned!

  • WRT54G2 router and printer Canon MF

I have a WRT54G2 router connected to the modem DSL from Verizon.  The router is connected to the laptop dock via ethernet, and network connectivity in the dock and grace wireless is perfectly fine.  I set up WEP security, and it was OK.  Operating system is Windows XP Pro.

I recently bought a Canon MF 4370DN network printer/fax/scanner and plugged into the router with an ethernet cable.  I have hard coded a 192.168.x.x IP address in the printer, installed the drivers and set up the printer on the laptop to print via a TCP/IP port.  The first installation has worked well, and first of all, I had no problem printing or scanning through the network.

The problem is that the connection between the printer and the laptop falls repeatedly, if the laptop is connected or not.  This can be corrected temporarily by turning the printer on and for the duration of the session, all functions, including printing work very well.  But if the laptop is turned off and later started, the connection is lost, until the printer is recycled.

The printer also has a USB port and I think the simple creation of an additional USB connection between the printer and the dock, but I wonder why the connection through the router guard get lost.  Any ideas?

    Thank you

    dvepaul

The laptop is always connected to the wireless network when the connection between the printer and the laptop is lost?

If you have no any connection problem with your router, I guess it's either your printer or your laptop...

You should try to uninstall the printer drivers, reboot the PC and install the printer costs, see if that makes a difference... If there are any updated drivers for your printer, try using those...

  • Connecting two routers WRT54G2 to extend the signal

I have available two routers wireless broadband Linksys G (WRT54G2), given to me by a family member. We use one of the routers by itself for some time, but have no adequate signal throughout our House. I decided it would be easier to design the floor plan of the House for you to see his situation compared with the rest of the House on the walls that do not. We have the HughesNet satellite internet which is on the roof just about the location of the modem and router at the bottom right of the image.

What do you think would be the best location of the main router? I read it would be more centrally located, because the signal travels horizontally and vertically. I just bought a 100' Ethernet cable being the only one that we had what the HughesNet Installer provided us with which is about 4'. I initially thought I would be the cable from main router to the basement where the second router is placed since the signal there is about 1 in 3 bars on my iPhone. The signal on the floor in the ranges of the main room (room at the top in the middle of the image) of 3-5 off 5 bars on my laptop.

I wanted to just put a post sooner rather than later to see what your views were on the location of the main router and I have to increase the signal.

Let me know if you have any questions to a better response.

I have updated the firmware on the main router.

If you want to configure the router as an access point 2 then the connection will be LAN to LAN which means the LAN port of the router port main o the 2nd router's LAN... But before you connect to the main router.

You should first connect the 2nd router to your laptop, go to the configuration page. Configure wireless settings it is firstly, ethier you set up another name and password is all up to you. Then change the IP address to a number of 192.168.1.x(any fera l'affaire) and disable DHCP... then after that connect to the main router.

  • Router installation

I am trying to install my router but I get the error message that my ethernet cables are not connected. I tried several times and each time I know that cables are in correctly. Is there anyway to fix this?

If it helps, I'm using XP and my router is WRT54G2.

    Thank you!

    > Any way to solve this problem?

Yes.  Don't use the installation CD or LELA.  Connect to 192.168.1.1 and configure the router manually.

  • WRT54G2 shapes my download no reason speed

    Hello

I have WRT54G2. First I have the installation with the wizard CD, and I had an internet connection. After 2-3 days my just wireless stop working and I reset my router and configuring it manual. My ISP provides a static IP address that I entered correctly and my internet connection is working, but there is something really interesting. My download speed is 1 MB/s (I pay for 10 MB/s) and my download speed is 10 MB/s (I pay for 10 MB/s). When I do not use the router my download speed is OK, but when I route my internet connection through the router, it becomes 1 MB/s. The version of the firmware was 1.0.0.1 and I level to 1.0.0.3 but the problem persists. I checked for QoS parameters, but it is disabled. Only, I can't understand why the problem stops then I decided to ask for help here.

    Hi again...

When I cloned the MAC address of the network adapter to the router the download speed is OK... It is really strange. Problem solved. I think that whole thing was because of my ISP...

    I have a WRT54G2. Modem--> router--> computer (wired connection)

    . --> Computer (wireless)

The wired one works fine, I also have my wii connected via WiFi and it works fine. But I recently reinstalled my windows and now when I try to connect it says I can but not internet. It happened to my cousin while he was trying to connect with his laptop.

Computers running xp, the wireframe is sp3 and the wireless is currently sp2 (new installation).

No one knows how to fix?

I started the 'Wireless zero configuration' how I relised that I had been putting my key wpa lowercase when it should have been capitalized.

Case sensitive was the problem :/

  • Xbox 360 cannot connect to WRT54G2 router network.

I just bought a new router WRT54G2 specifically use for xbox live. I put my fine computer, using an ethernet cable from the router to the computer. And I used the installation disk to create a network name and password. But when I use the wireless adapter to connect to my network, it does not. And even when I manually type the name and the WPA code, he says that it can't find the network. The settings I enabled SSID broadcast. So I don't know what to do from here. Any ideas?

    Who is your ISP?

Try the following settings on the router...

-Change the channel to 11-2 wireless, 462

-The tab Advance Wireless... Change the interval of tag to 75, the Fragmentation threshold to 2304, the RTS threshold to 2304

  • Cannot check the Internet using my WRT54G2 V1 router.

I have Blue Ridge cable Internet.

I can connect to the internet perfectly by directly connecting the cord to this laptop that I am.

I ran the CD for my WRT54G2 V1 router, and at the end of the installation it says my router is configured, but he said that it was not connected to the internet.

I tried several times to fix this in troubleshooting, but none of them worked.

I DID however just simply disconnect and reconnect the router after about 10 attempts and I've been on the internet for about 20 seconds. (I looked for something on google and found research.) But internet is turned off and it just says "Local".

I want to connect to the internet using this router and thus be able to connect the members of my family with their laptops through this router.

    Thank you.

  • Help with installation of DS

Sorry for the double post, but I accidentally changed DS DSL on the line object with the spell checker.  That's how frustrated I am.

I bought a router WRT54G2 year last to connect my Ipod touch to the internet.  I assumed that later I could use it for my DS as well.  Well I tried and failed.  I know that my router is not setup to WEP and reading the other discussions, I've learned that's what is needed for the DS.  I tried to type in the http://192.168.1.1/ everything that comes is a Verizon DSL page and nothing like than what everyone else has described.  I don't know where else to go to change settings.  I don't have a wireless network tab when I go on my network connections via the control panel either.  My Ipod touch works fine with my existing network, so I know I did something at the point where I put in place, but I get more and more frustrated trying to set it up.  Help, please! I'm at the end of my piece.  Although I'm not computer illiterate and I network completely illiterate, please write to me in terms the most basic you can.  Thank you very much

Hello Reneester, the reason why your Verizon home page comes and not your Linksys page when you type in http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar, because a DSL connection uses the same just like your Linksys router IP address (especially your DSL provider who is Verizon). To enter the page of the Linksys router, you must check what IP address your PC from the reception of your router.

How to do this? (follow these steps on the PC that is connected to the router)

    > click Start and select Control Panel

    > on the left side of your control panel, try to switch to Classic view , and then click it, but if you need to switch to the display of the category then your control panel is already in Classic view.

    > click on network connections

    > Search for LAN connections and right-click to bring up some options

    > click on status

    > a small box will appear on the screen, go to the Support tab and note numbers default gateway. It's the IP address of your router and this is the number that you type in the address bar of your internet explore.

    > once you are aware of your default gateway, close all open Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox and type the numbers.

    > Press ENTER and it will come with a box of user name and password. The default router password is admin and just leave the empty user name, but if that does not work then try to memorize the router password you setup when first configure you the router using the installation CD.

    Hope that helps! Good luck!
