  If Sims Setup calls for another drive then I guess it's looking for a second installation disk or it has encountered an error and can not read the disk it uses currently.  Make sure your disc is clean and Unscratched.  If yes you can check with the Support of EA , because they are the creators of The Sims.   It should be possible.  The XPS 8700 should come with unused bays where the blu - ray player can be adapted.   But I must warn you that you're dealing with electronics when you do the upgrades and installs.  Please make sure that you watch videos that explain all the security requirements when it comes to the delicate pieces.

  Here is the link to the manuals for the 8700 XPS.   It has both a guide and the specifications for you to review document.  Again, I strongly recommend reading the safety precautions section and "before you begin" to get a better understanding of what you need to do.

  It should also be a section in the manual to know how to install a replacement disk, which will essentially be the step by step instructions.

  Good luck and don't forget to follow the safety guides and installation instructions completely.

  I suggest that you consider getting an external adapter or place the new drive in an external enclosure. Install Mac OS X on this subject here.  When you are satisfied with the way it works, and THEN do the transplant.
