Installing XP on Portege R100

Hello.

I'm trying to re - install Windows XP on a Portege R100. I have a CD of tools & utilities but no system recovery disk. I have a Toshiba CR ROM that connects to the laptop through a cardbus. I thought it would be a simple matter of putting my XP install disk in and boot from that. Unfortunately, he gets of how most by installing little drivers, then just at the point where it happens with Windows startup, there's the bluescreen error message blue screen following error:

+ A problem has been detected and Windows has shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

+ If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps (and then continues to tell you to chkdsk/f) +.

+ Technical information: * STOP: 0x0000007b (0xf897f524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) +.

I had similar errors with other laptops by which SATA controller drivers need to be integrated into the Windows Installer disk. Is this a similar situation?

If anyone has any ideas / suggestions, I would be very grateful.

Kind regards

Steve

I saw 0x0000007B on my laptop previous installation of XP, it's a problem of HARD disk controller, usually caused when XP cannot find the correct drivers for IDE/SATA controller.

First of all, you need to use a CD of Windows XP Service Pack 2. You can integrate SP2 into the XP CD, google search for "Integrate SP2 XP"

I'm not familiar with this model, but you may need to use a storage F6 driver. Take a look at the Toshiba website for drivers or instructions.

    Hello

    I did a clean install on my Portege R100-11Z of windows 7 and later a new clean install of Windows XP Prof SP3.

    In both configurations, I have no sound from the headphone/microphone jacks. (yes I check all the options: mute / his wheele next / new drivers / Toshiba eliminate program "mute" e.t.)
    All the configuration looks OK. I don't see anny WARNING/message in the configuration settings.

    But I hear via a USB headset via the USB.

    Looks like the built-in sound card Driver works OK because I get the sound through the USB.
    What is the solution to get the sound through the headphone/mic shots?

    Thanks for your help/advice.

    But that the sound from the speakers?

    Theoretically, it could be possible that the headphone is faulty
    Inside the headphone jack there is a little switch that switches between speakers and headphones.

  • Portege R100 and software Cyberlink

    Hi people.

    I tried to use the Cyberlink PowerDVD software that should have come preinstalled on this laptop, but it does not appear to be installed. Where can I download a copy from this laptop?

    Also, is there a way to save the machine that I never received any CD / DVD in the machine when it was bought new

    Thank you

    Hi Clive

    Why are you offering this software must be installed on the Portege R100?
    Where did you find this info?

    As much I know as the Cyberlink Power DVD doesn't do not part of the image of Toshiba.
    On several sets of portable Toshiba the WinDVD software was preinstalled and could be used to play DVD movies.
    But I m the Cyberlink Power DVD is not available, and I doubt that the ASP can help you!

  • Funktion key off out of control on Portege R100

    Hello!

    I m new here and my English isn't the best. So I apologize, if I m typing a few words wrong.

    My problem: I install my old Portege R100. I was able to reinstall Windows XP Home on the R100 and especially all things are okay.
    Something that happens 'out of order' is the 'FN' key, this key is used to turn off the sound light, etc. What driver is needed to solve this problem? I have already installed a lot of things, but sometimes my computer asks me Toshiba common module. I thought that I ve installed several times, but he is not "a set-up-installation..."

    Something wrong?

    Best regards
    Rita

    Hello Rita

    I see that he just a problem. All Toshiba tools and utilities must be installed according to order of specific facilities. Toshiba common Modules must be installed in a first step, before you continue to install any other Toshiba tool or utility.

    On the Toshiba download page you can find the document Instructions of facilities. Check and install all the stuff following this order of installations.

  • How to install the OS on Portege R100?

    I have a Portege R100 by the usual means. It has been formatted so it doesn t have something about that. I read there are three ways to install an operating system. PC with USB CD-rom card, I tried without success since the pc card is a 32-bit card.

    I ve tried to locate some computer dealers but they've all sent me away. Where can I buy (live in Trondheim, Norway) good CD with the specific pc card that would make me start the CD of Windows XP Home edition? Apparently Toshiba doesn't have a webshop with accessories. Is there another way to install Windows XP Home edition?
    Can I boot from a USB pin if I copy the CD of Windows XP Home edition for that?

    IM desperate please answer :)

    Lars cordially

    Hello, Lars

    If you want to use the original recovery media in this case, you must use external Toshiba card PC CD/DVD. The recovery image contains disk driver and because of this, the reader will be recognized correctly and start procedure will work automatically.

    If you want to use the own external device, you must use BACK pilot to first use and after use of the drive. On this forum, one user recommended to copy the contents of the full version of Microsoft on the second partition CD and after that start the installation from there.

    I didn t try so far and cannot give you more specific information how to proceed.

    Bye and good luck!

  • Portege R100 - how to install after Exchange of HARD drive?

    Hello world
    I'm new to this forum and I want to know exactly where I'm wrong. I have this portege r100 laptop and the hard drive gave a few days ago. Because I am a novice when it comes to computers, I left the laptop with an engineer, that I found on Kijiji.
    Unfortunately, the engineer could not load any operating system on it. I go through this forum and loads found useful answers, but alas, still the same problem.
    Could someone guide me in the right direction. I would be really grateful that I have exams coming next week and really need the laptop.

    I don't have any CD-ROM compatiable only an external floppy drive.
    I tried to install using the windows startup disk (x 6 downloaded from the microsoft Web site), but after the 6 disc it asks me 3 options.

    1. press ENTER to install
    2. recovery console option of
    Output 3.F3

    When I press on enter is not superimposed my cd rom which I figured out is not compatiable. If I leave the connected cd rom it says unmountable boot disk. It gives me a bsod. Is there another way, I could install the operating system using only the FDD.
    I'd appreciate it really all the help of the experienced members of this forum.
    Thank you.

    First of all, you can not use any external CD/DVD drive... you must use a compatible and recommended by Toshiba.

    Secondly, I you could try to connect the HARD drive to another computer using the USB caddy.
    Then copy the i386 to the HARD disk folder.
    Then, you can run the winnt.exe file to start the Setup program.

    Once configuration is complete plug the HDD to the Portege and tries to start
    It is only theory, but maybe it won't work

  • Install an operating system on the Portege R100 laptop via my RIS server

    I am trying to install Windows XP on one of my laptop Toshiba Portege R100 customers via my RIS server, I install the RIS server correctly with network card drivers, but my problem is that the laptop says "NTLDR is missing, cannot resume" and restarting the laptop and I would remove the battery and put it back in front of the laptop would work and then I could get to the PXE boot agent and then it would crash and I would still have to the whole process.

    I know that this problem is to do with a corrupted CMOS sensor but how am I ment to Flash bios without using it to boot from a floppy drive (external).

    Please help it's driving me crazy!

    Thank you

    More details!

    Hello

    If a "NTLDR is missing" message that this indicates that the hard drive is not bootable. I think that the Portege customer cannot boot from LAN (RIS server)
    Have you enabled the option in the BIOS correctly?

    Check if the network boot protocol is enabled. You can choose between PXE and RPL.
    And if the LAN has been defined first in the boot order.

  • Portege R100 install XP on the replacement drive

    Help, please

    My hard drive in my R100 went bad and I replaced it and it became a nightmare to install XP.

    I spent 2 days on this subject, and I can't break! I have the original Toshiba USB floppy drive that can be accessed by cell phone and a desktop USB external CD/DVD drive mounted in a USB chassis. It's the Sony DRU - 540A. I tried everything on this forum and it does not work.

    I copied the I386 folder in the C: / once I'd fdisk and formatted it and when windows was running from the CD it came to try to find the asms file. When I run the Portege R100 Recovery Bootdisk V1.1.zip he can see my Cd/DVD drive however the virtual D: it creates, causing the PC to freeze when I run Windows NT.

    Please help because it's pretty darn painful!

    Thanks Brendan

    Why would you copy the files from the CD to your HARD drive? To install an operating system, in your case Windows XP just boot from the CD and follow the instructions given by the installation routine.

    You can change the priority of booting into the BIOS settings, or by pressing the C key laptop start upward.

  • USB 2.0 blue screens on Portege R100

    Hello
    I have a Portege R100, when you insert a USB 2.0 device it blue screens and you can t do something. But if you insert a USB 1.1 device, he is very well, I tried the upgrade to Windows XP sp2 and this t hasn't helped any ideas.

    Thansks

    Hello

    Try to remove the USB entries in Device Manager, and then restart the device. The ports should be recognized and installed correctly. In my view, it cannot happen without any reason. It will be interesting to know since when this problem started.

  • Portege R100 and Linux - function keys not working do not and the latest version of the BIOS?

    Hello world

    I have a Portege R100 (PPR10L-13G10P). I am trying to install Linux and when you try to access function keys (F6) the computer does not allow me to... no idea why?

    Also, what is the latest version of BIOS for this computer? And where it can be downloaded?

    Thanks in advance!

    Terrence

    Hello

    At first, I must say that Toshiba doesn't support Linux in general if you are alone with this problem.
    I hope that someone will be able to help you a bit.
    If you want to discover the latest version of the BIOS, just enter the BIOS settings and check it out.
    BIOS version latest won't help you at all, so my opinion is that you shouldn't change anything.

    Anyway, the bio download page is - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_bios.jsp

    The feature keys F is supported by special tool Windows and it only works on Windows.

  • Portege R100 and RIPREP

    Hello

    I'm having a problem with RIS and my laptop Toshiba Portege R100. When I try to extract an image from the notebook using riprep, it keeps failing. This happens even with a vanilla XP installation. All other my laptop works very well except this model.

    I noticed that since the file riprep.sif the last lines are missing from the torn picture failure. A successful image should look like this:

    [OSChooser]
    Description = "test image - Toshiba R100"
    Help =' '
    LaunchFile ="%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%\templates\startrom.c om»
    ImageType = SYSPREP
    Version = "5.1 (2600) '"
    SysPrepSystemRoot = "Mirror1\UserData\WINDOWS".
    HalName = halacpi.dll
    ProductType = 0

    An image failed would replace the last few lines with the following information:

    [OSChooser]
    Description = "Windows Professional.
    Help = "this will install Windows Professional in a standard configuration.
    LaunchFile = "%INSTALLPATH%\%MACHINETYPE%\templates\startrom.co m '.
    ImageType = "Flat".

    I also checked the riprep.log file to see if there was no problem there. There are some services that were not arrested before the images were torn off. However, these services also appear in other newspapers of riprep files other images which have succeeded. I also stopped these services before starting the imaging process, but the problem persists.

    I rip an image successfully just now. I showed a colleague what happens when I tried using riprep, and it worked. I was pretty stripped, but this was the first and last time.

    I should also mention that the configuration of the network is DHCP statistics. I also tried to give a static IP address.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    If you need further information do not hesitate to contact me.

  • Configuration and closing the new disk for Portege R100

    I just set up a new 40 GB HDD in my Portege r100. I think I need to format the disk before that it will work. How to do this please? I downloaded and installed the latest version of the bios

    Hello

    If the HARD drive is already detected in Windows Explorer, right-click on it and select format. If this isn't the case, you can use programs like Partition Magic or even your recovery CD to do a first formatting. If you use the recovery CD, the OS will install again, so you have to format the HARD drive again with Explorer.

  • A few questions about the Portege R100 upgrade

    Hello

    I have a Toshiba Portege R100 of America with 768 MB of RAM, 40 GB HDD, DVD-ROM on the PCMCIA card. I want to renew the Windows XP Pro Notebook by updating the material.

    -How can I update a larger HARD drive?
    -What RAM should I update?
    -Can I upgrade the processor?

    Thank you for your help.

    holger112

    Hello

    You cannot switch the processor!

    You can upgrade the HD, but because it is an interface 1.8 "HD with an ide (50 pin ATA) the best you can find is a 60 GB HD (Toshiba MK6006GAH 60 GB) you can find them on ebay for a reasonable price

    You can easily switch from memory with a module 1 GB pc2700-dimm ddr1 (like kingston or corsair) in replacement of the module of 512 MB to a maximum of 1.2 GB.

    You can buy them everywhere

    Also note:

    install XP on a R100 is not very easy, but you can find lots of information on this forum, as here:

  • Portege R100: No restore CD - is WinXP installation possible?

    Hello!

    I had recently a well used old Portege R100 with a Toshiba PCMCIA CD that comes with it. He unfortunately did not come with the recovery CD and the hard drive has been formatted to him!

    I tried to install WinXP Pro many times now come to the conclusion, sad every time - the computer starts successfully in Windows Setup, but after finishing to load all the files needed it crashes with a Stop (0x0000007B) error. After some research I realize it is because the default XP install disk not having not sufficient not all drivers for the R100 hardware found on the Toshiba Recovery CD.

    Does anyone know if it is possible to install from a standard Microsoft XP disk or is it the only way to use the Toshiba recovery disks?

    Or even the creation of my own recovery CD by adding the necessary drivers for a standard XP disk?

    Thank you very much!

    Marko

    Hello Marko

    As far as I know the image of recovery for this unit contains the driver for the outdoor unit and installation with recovery media is very easy. I didn t try to install Microsoft WXP but if your device has a drive HARD with two partitions try to copy the CD of Windows XP Home edition on the second partition and start the installation from there.
