Intel ARK Intel Xeon processor E5-2620 confused v3 on the calculations for the CPU.

Hello

I know that this topic is tedious, but the I am not sure of the ESXi County. Now I have to buy new servers, I have not in a long time. Intel CPU base use hearts and son. Intel Xeon processor E5-2620 v3, carrots = 6; Son = 12 and Hyper-threading.

As defined by Intel:

Carrots is a material term that describes the number of independent CPUs in a single computer component (die or chip).

Threads, is a term for software for the base ordered sequence of instructions that can be passed by or handled by a single processor.

The total number of processor on an ESXi host hearts would be 6 * 12 = 72? or 6 If the Threads do not count in the calculation; which is I guess?

The number of logical processors on an ESXi host? (6 * 12) * 2 = 144? or 12 If the Threads are not count in the calculation; which is my guess?

http://Ark.Intel.com/products/83352/Intel-Xeon-processor-E5-2620-v3-15m-cache-2_40-GHz

Thank you

DRUMDUDESAN

Each physical heart can handle essentially only one thread at a time. With active HyperThreading is 2 by heart physical threads.

So 12 son is the result of:

6 x 2-wire hearts each = 12 threads total

that presents itself as 12 logical processors in vSphere.

Should I buy this or not?

Well, if you get the Xeon V3 they are locked to 2133 DDR4 ram. The 5960 X and other chips I7 Haswell E will load any DDR4 speed and are not locked. So you can get the amount of fast ram with the I7 CPU. ECC adds an extra clock for the ECC cycle which is a marginal increase in latency ram. However, the difference between DDR4-2133 and DDR4 2666 is big enough, especially when it comes with 4 +, media. That's why you want unbuffered ram, but need you an I7 using it at a higher speed, 2133. Also there is at least some Xeon boards that used same handle without buffer ram, so maybe it's not an option on this Dell anyway. You certainly want the Quadro K4200 of pit and get a 980GTX card. The Quadros are slower and do not have HDMi 2.0. They generate more heat at this point than the 900 series cards. I would like to ask what PSU is that Dell however since this is a major limitation of upgrade of video and other cards if it is small.

  • vSphere CPU for vMotion - Intel Xeon compatibility

Can anyone point to an article that shows what Intel Xeon processors are compatible in a vSphere cluster?

A host with a Xeon 54xx series procs can join a cluster with Xeon 55xx series procs or a series 56xx procs?

    Thank you

Take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003212 which lists the compatible CPU types. Article has not been updated for ESXi 5 day yet, so you can see the different names of basic CVO in vCenter 5.

  • Compitibility with Xeon processors

I'm new to VMware ESXi 5 and tried to install on a processor Intel SL7PG and got the error "VMware ESXi cannot work on this processor.  VMware ESXi requires a 64-bit processor with LAHF/SAHF support in long mode. »

If I update to the SL7ZC processor is it compatible?

Hello and welcome to the forums!

If the CPU is lower, it does not support VT - x so that you will not be able to run 64-bit guests.

  • ESX4 / Intel Xeon L5335 / VT / VT - d / vmDirectPath

Am just concluding the planning phase for a complete reorganization of our (small) VMware infrastructure.  Currently have 2 x popular Dell PowerEdge 2950 with 16 GB of RAM as ESX 3.5 hosts.  Are four-core Intel Xeon L5335 (2 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) processor.  As I buy some new Dell R710 my production ESX hosts and installing vSphere 4.0 on them, I want to reuse my 'old' ESX hosts:

1 for the virtual machines to Test and run backup

1 for the purposes of the DR

In the host used for virtual machines to Test/Backup, I want to use vmDirectPath to connect two external SATA hard drives.  I've been watching various documents and discussions here.  In a discussion, someone has posted:

«Do not mix VT - d (VMDirectPath i/o) and VT (hardware assisted virtualization).»

I checked the VMware documentation: http://www.VMware.com/PDF/vsp_4_vmdirectpath_host.PDF

I looked at Intel CPU for the L5335 documentation: http://Ark.Intel.com/product.aspx?ID=30791

After all this, I'm confused.  The Intel site, says the L5335 supports 'VT - x'... is that "Vermont", "VT - d" or something else?  What's the story by saying 'do not mix VT - d and VT'... I mean, that's what that means yet?

If someone can clarify for me, that would be appreciated.

    > In the case of a #2, we would usually say "mix them" as a phrase meaning the same as "do not confuse them. # 2 what you mean?

    Yes, exactly.

    Thank you.

  • V2 Intel E7 processors do not support virtualization!

Hi everyone having issues with Intel these days.

When you check the specifications of the CPU Intel E7 v2 family there no virtualization VT - x support in the record.

Please see link below the list of processors intel supports virtualization.

    http://Ark.Intel.com/Products/VirtualizationTechnology -> E7 No. v2 processors here...! ?

Also check in with an E5v3 in snapshot comparison table attached. There is no virtualization technology.

ARK | Compare Intel & amp; #174; Products

When you check the Vmware support matrix, this CPU seems to be very good for virtualization.

I'm confused. Same Intel USA cannot give a clear answer to this question. So if there is no employee of VMware here, could you please escalate my request?

    Thanks in advance.

Today, I see that they have updated the plug. Now, it is well

Looks life officially E7 V2 CPU virtualization support

  • Impossible to run the 64-bit Intel Xeon 5130 CPU clients

    Hi all

We have a small group of two boxes of DELL.

A newer PowerEdge R710 with processor Intel Xeon 5550 and the other older

PowerEdge 2950 with processor Intel Xeon 5130.

    Both running ESX 4.0

both platforms should support 64-bit OS.

When you create a customer I can not select a for example Windows 2008 64-bit. When I start this machine on my PE 2950, it starts, it loads are installing windows, DVD and shortly after I receive a message saying that he needs a 64-bit processor. ??

Pass the customer to another host, installs and works fine. We saw the same thing with Windows 7 64 bit (and probably with the 64 bit OS).

I just restarted this host and went into the BIOS to see if the CPU has been in support of 64-bit, it was. And if the VT CPU technology has been activated, it was.

    Still no luck, however.

Someone at - it an idea?

Your processor supports Vt - x ( http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=27216).  Have you tried a BIOS upgrade?  Also, check out this document, http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8978

  • Intel Xeon with DDR3 vs Intel Core i7 with DDR4

    Hello world

I need to improve my old HP Z200 workstation because my processor is not enough for a film in GH4. In the Task Manager, CPU is often 100%...

But I don't know which is the best, an i7 or Xeon.

I don't know if it is better to change my motherboard and my CPU to an Intel Xeon E5-2620v2@2,1GHz keeping my existing DDR3 ECC 16 GB memory or change my motherboard with an Intel i7 5820K@3,3 GHz and the purchase of new DDR4 memory not 16 GB ECC.

Solution 2 is a little more expensive, but no matter if this better than solution 1.

Both CPU are 6 cores and cache 15 MB. Hope this is better than my Quad Core Xeon X3450@2,67Ghz

And sorry for my English, I'm from France

    Thanks for your help,

    Best regards

    Nico

Definitely go for the i7 - 5820K. It is much faster than the Xeon slow.

  • Intel Xeon E5640 VS E5649 for VMWARE

    Hello

I'm new to virtualization and working on getting a server for my lab to try VMware. I plan on getting a dual processor, 24 GB, 1 to SAS, HP Proliant DL380 server. I have two options for the CPU. Intel Xeon E5640 (4 core) processor clocked at 2.66 GHZ and Intel E5649 (base 6) 2.53 GHZ. What would be better for virtualization? several nuclei or better clock speed?

Initially I will install Cisco CallManager lab on this server. Later, I might add few more VMs.

    Thank you.

Welcome to the community - certainly more hearts - with more cores allows the ESXi host to have more locations to plan the VM virtual processors

    Hello.

Is it possible to run the dynamic migration between servers Intel Xeon E5410 and Intel Xeon E5506 processor?

Try to migrate will cause an error as UC and hostbitys do not match.

I don't mind to give up a part of the 'new feature' the Core i7.

    Thank you

    > I; m impossible and VCA (like a Core2 family and another family of Core i7).

You must turn off all the virtual machines on the host with 55xx Xeons before turning on the VCA.

  • Basis of VCA for Intel Xeon Core i7 32nm

    Hi all

I have a two-node cluster, each node processors are Inter Xeon CPU x 5660.

I think I need to apply the update 1 or later in order to get the CVS working with these processors compatibility. I actually applied update 2 and I don't always get the opportunity to apply the level of reference Intel Xeon Core i7 32nm.

There is a part of the process, need me to make this option available?

    Thank you very much

Had to downgrade BIOS - seems the 2.1.9 and 2.1.15 versions are buggy...

is the only one that worked without any problem: 2.1.3

    Download here: ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/R710-020013C.exe

    now vmotion etc works perfectly.
