Compitibility with Xeon processors

I'm new to VMware ESXi 5 and tried to install on a processor Intel SL7PG and got the error "VMware ESXi cannot work on this processor.  VMware ESXi requires a 64-bit processor with LAHF/SAHF support in long mode. »

If I update to the SL7ZC processor is it compatible?

Thanks in advance for the help

Hello and welcome to the forums!

If the CPU is lower, it does not support VT - x so that you will not be able to run 64-bit guests.

  • D20 - without with Xeon processor Hyperthreading?

    Hallo,

Since a few days I very happily use my new thinkstation D20 with a CPU Xeon 5506. However, when I start the Task Manager in Vista or Server 2008 I see always 4 processors. But I expect to see 8 processors using this processor Hyperthreading.

Question: is there an option in the BIOS to enable Hyperthreading? I've always found it. Or does this processor not support Hyperthreading at all?

    Greetings,

Should I buy this or not?

Well, if you get the Xeon V3 they are locked to 2133 DDR4 ram. The 5960 X and other chips I7 Haswell E will load any DDR4 speed and are not locked. So you can get the amount of fast ram with the I7 CPU. ECC adds an extra clock for the ECC cycle which is a marginal increase in latency ram. However, the difference between DDR4-2133 and DDR4 2666 is big enough, especially when it comes with 4 +, media. That's why you want unbuffered ram, but need you an I7 using it at a higher speed, 2133. Also there is at least some Xeon boards that used same handle without buffer ram, so maybe it's not an option on this Dell anyway. You certainly want the Quadro K4200 of pit and get a 980GTX card. The Quadros are slower and do not have HDMi 2.0. They generate more heat at this point than the 900 series cards. I would like to ask what PSU is that Dell however since this is a major limitation of upgrade of video and other cards if it is small.

  • What drivers are needed for windows 7 recognize a system with 4 processors, dual-core?

I have a HP ProLiant DL580 G4 with the following CPU specifications:

Four dual-core processors Intel Xeon 7140 M. All of them identical, but the specifications can be found here

I'm running Windows 7 ultimate or Windows 7 Enterprise, but the recognition of all the 4 physical processors is a MUST.

I can run windows on it very well, but he acknowledges that 2 of the 4 physical processors.

It seems it would be a driver issue, as Device Manager shows two devices having the status of 'unknown '.

If it is, in fact, a driver problem, does Microsoft have all the drivers available, or shall I seek third party?

I would appreciate any advice you can offer. Thank you!

I hope that someone will know better, but (from the search), so it seems that it only supports two:

    "Computers with multiple processors (CPU):
Commercial servers, workstations and other PC high-end may have multiple physical processors. Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and integral allow two physical processors, offering the best performance on these computers. Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic and Home Premium edition recognizes only a single physical processor. "

  • Intel ARK Intel Xeon processor E5-2620 confused v3 on the calculations for the CPU.

    Hello

I know that this topic is tedious, but the I am not sure of the ESXi County. Now I have to buy new servers, I have not in a long time. Intel CPU base use hearts and son. Intel Xeon processor E5-2620 v3, carrots = 6; Son = 12 and Hyper-threading.

    As defined by Intel:

Carrots is a material term that describes the number of independent CPUs in a single computer component (die or chip).

Threads, is a term for software for the base ordered sequence of instructions that can be passed by or handled by a single processor.

The total number of processor on an ESXi host hearts would be 6 * 12 = 72? or 6 If the Threads do not count in the calculation; which is I guess?

The number of logical processors on an ESXi host? (6 * 12) * 2 = 144? or 12 If the Threads are not count in the calculation; which is my guess?

    Thank you

    DRUMDUDESAN

Each physical heart can handle essentially only one thread at a time. With active HyperThreading is 2 by heart physical threads.

So 12 son is the result of:

    6 x 2-wire hearts each = 12 threads total

that presents itself as 12 logical processors in vSphere.

  • VMotion between 2 Hosts with different processors

    Hallo,

I have a server in my homelab I use for studies of VMsphere and I want to get a second machine to test advanced features such as HA, Vmotion etc.

My first server has a map of X9SCM-9 with processor Xeon E3-1230V2 (Ivy Bridge). I am currently running ESX 5.0 U2 on it.

I was counting on obtaining of material quality for the second host consumers because I don't want to spend a lot on it, so I thought that I need any CPU generation Ivy Bridge.

I tested today with a second machine with a Pentium G2020 Ivy Bridge, but when I try to Vmotion he says "the virtual machine requires physical features that are not available or disabled on the host... ».

So I figure there must be a difference in architecture regardless of the CPU beeing an Ivy Bridge CPU.

When I try to activate CVS it just me are going to the 'Nehalem' Version so my virtual machines running on host 1 would not be able to use all the features of the CPU since the Xeon.

So the question boils down to: what is the processor less which offer compatibility VCA L5?

Or is there something else to consider in VMotion between two hosts with different processors?

I got a shared storage, etc. of the same network configuration.

    Thank you

    Benjamin

    Hi Benjamin,

For compatibility VCA L5 want to look at one of the following models, Intel CPU:

    • Ivy Bridge: Series E3-1200-v2
    • HASWELL

I would recommend mental health that before rushing and a CPU purchase, check if a cheaper option would be, as Jon mentions in suppresss some fo the CPU compatibility checks so obviously, this is not desirable in a production environment, and must be applied in your study of VMware Lab to the home address.

    Hope this helps,

  • Can I get maximum performance with dual processor socket

    Hi all

a dealer offer me a HP workstation xw8600 with this specification:

    HP xw 8600
    Intel Xenon CPU E5440
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600
    power electric 1050 watts

Motherboard is a socket for dual processor with two processor E5440 xenon (12 M Cache, 2.83 GHz, four hearts, 1333 MHz FSB)

    My question is:

is the work of two processor together?  Or a job and the other spare part?

    and can I get sum of them?  Say I have: 2 * 4 core processor * 2.83 GHZ 22,64 = total?

    Thank you

The HP QuickSpecs for the xw8600:

You can see that there are faster quad hearts that the E5440, but those running with 120 or 150 watts max output each (4 cores) processor and the motherboard can detect those more power needs and want you to use the 'double height' radiators posted on this forum in the past, for each processor.

So this processor of 80 watt is the fastest, you can officially run only big radiator/fans with the smaller accompanying these processors.

The second processor is used... is not a spare part.  All 8 cores running simultaneously, each at the speed indicated.  Many programs can use additional drivers, so speed tests a computer running 8 cores are twice that of the computer that runs the 4 cores of the processor even speed.  For example, as previously posted here, some of my speed tests on a single versus installation double processor on the same workstation HP upped the partitions Windows 7 Windows Experience Index of 7.2 to 7.6.  Noticeable, but not a doubling.

Unless you have obtained the xw8600 for a purchase cost best eBay to them (which you won't) I would advise to buy a used Z600.  You will get a more mature workaholic.  Regarding the Z620... my work on those who told me that HP is still perfecting things.  Right now, it's more like a race horse.  So, there are a few good reasons to fall back a generation of the Z620 if you buy used... benefit from important and bugs costs worked better.  All you get to do all the updates that are available from HP for this workstation.

  • Problems after "WinFlash BIOS (for notebooks with Intel processors)" HP Pavilion dv6-1129tx

    Evening ladies and gentlemen.

I installed an update for my HP Pavilion dv6-1129tx Entertainment Notebook PC today (see details below). Against my better judgment I thought having the latest version of the BIOS might be a good idea, even if my laptop worked fine as-is.

After update BIOS F.24 I now have the following questions:

    (1) when the display on the laptop turns off due to being slowed down 20 minutes, he don't come back now. If I press any key to wake up, he will the internal speaker beep. As soon as I press power it turns directly to the output instantly.

    (2) I can restart is no longer. The portable computer shuts down normally, but when he tries to go back on it starts, but windows is not loaded and it just hangs. I have to turn off by pressing the power button, then turn it back on.

I installed it just this afternoon and I am posting this a few hours later, so I don't have time to notice other problems of performance after the update.

Long story short, does anyone know or have the original BIOS for my laptop (sp43821)? Or has someone at - it had the same problem and found a solution?

    Thanks in advance.

  • vSphere ent. more with 1 processor

    Hi all

I have a survey about licenses I have for vsphere (vsphere enterprise more with 1 processor) but one of the server I have 2 physical cpu with 6 cores of each.  What is the impact on my license?  This means I can't use the other cpu or I can use only 6 logical CPUS per server. or what?

Thanks for any comment or help, that you can add.

Although Enterprise Plus is good for up to 12 cores per license, you cannot divide a single license between multiple physical processors.

  • ESX4 with limitation / processor Win2008/SQL2008 Express

The documentation for the States of MS SQL 2008 Express

SQL Server Express uses 1 physical processor (including multiple nuclei), up to 1 GB of memory and up to 4 GB of storage.

I have configured the virtual computer with 4 vCPUs. and the operating system recognizes all vCPUs. When I fire a few T - SQL scripts to load som genereate, I see that only 1 vCPU is used by SQL Server.

My guess is that Windows 2008 sees the 4 vCPUs as processors of Cabinet 4 instead of 1 quad - or dual-core 2, and that is why the other vCPUs are not used.

The ESX is running on 2 x E5504 Quad Core Intel processors, see 8 cores in total.

Can someone comfirm that I 'think' is OK, but more interesting still, can anyone tell me if there is a solution?

How ESX are the cores of the processor / virtual machine and it can be configured with the processor affinity for example?

It's exact vCPUs are presented as individual processors, not not like the hearts on a priocessor - the operating system is not aware that these nuclei are actually the same physical processor.

Therefore, I doubt you will have much luck with a workaround to make the operating system thinks the vCPUs are actually more than 1 CPU cores.

    I'm sorry.

What Microsoft OS will allow me to have access to this memory? I don't know if it's a 64-bit computer. I don't think so.

Microsoft 64-bit operating system can read high-capacity RAM.

Vista 64 x is able to read up to 16 GB of RAM and
Windows 7 64 x is able to read a huge 128 GB of RAM.

I was wondering if there is any advantage or increase performance by dividing the two SSD between processors, i.e. to put each training into its own flex connector and pluggin then those in the respective location of each processor.

    Thank you

    Bench1

No, you should not see a significant change in the UC records Division. The FLEX connector is a custom x 8 PCIe 3.0 slot and therefore supports about 7880 MB/s to the entire map of FLEX. It's about 3940 MB/s bandwidth of each SSD m2 on the adapter.

Until your SSD meet or exceed the 4 Gbps by SSD, it is not a value of split.

  • PowerEdge T610 maximum RAM with single processor

    Hello

I would like to know is Server PowerEdge T610 capable of supporting some 196 (12x16Go) GB of RAM with Intel Single Xeon E5645 2.40 GHz processor?

    Thank you.

    Kind regards

    Stanley

    Not a chance.

The T610 supports 192 GB ONLY with the populous processors AND the latest version of the BIOS.  The reason is that the memory controller is on the processor, so if you have only one populated, while half of the slots in the system memory can be used - six locations associated with the populous processor.  With a single processor, 96GB (6x16Go) is the maximum.  More old BIOS do not support 16 GB DIMMS, so remember to update the BIOS (and other firmware system) BEFORE the update to any configuration using 16 GB DIMMS.
