Intel RAID Option ROM

I tried to get ESXi 3.5 update 4 is installed on my Dell Dimersion 8400 and have encountered a problem with my RAID controller.

A few statistics:

Chipset: Intel 925 X

RAID controller: 82801FR (ICH6R)

Hard drives: 1 TB 2xSATA

Given that ESX is not taken in the way Windows RAID support not I changed the setting in the BIOS to explicitly enable RAID (as opposed to deduction if there is a signature).  This allowed me to enter the Intel Application Acceleration RAID ROM (v4.0) option where I could create a RAID1 array with my hard drives.

After you have created the RAID1 array installation ESX failed (he had worked without any active RAID).  I've updated the BIOS and that seems to have fixed (no more panic: no bootable sector or similar error messages).

However, I don't know if my RAID array does not work correctly.  ESX shows only a single default data store, but it does not find the second hard drive.  My thought was that with material creating a table that ESX would only see a 'hard drive '.  The truth in my opinion?

Anyone has any ideas on how to test the table?  I guess trying to start individually on each disc?

Make me more comfortable, it's info pages Intel Application Acceleration RAID on intel.com explicitly that it does not support a list of Linux/Unix O / its.

I guess I'm looking for ideas or advice on the best configuration for ESX RAID1 with my Intel chipset.  Perhaps a RAID PCI controller?  Any advice is welcome.

Almost all Intel RAID chipsets are really just a software raid implemented in the driver.  ESX sees these as separate drives.

No really no way around it.

    • Card mother S5000XVNSASR

    • memory Kingston 667 MHz DDR2 ECC fully buffered main 4 x 4 GB

I have evaluated both the available virtualization hypervisors and concluded that VMWare ESXi 3.x is the best choice available. Track the version of VMWare ESXi 3.5 U3 works well on the configuration of the server above.

How much it would cost to buy a basic version of this software? Just the ESXi and VI3 Client Server with no support.

I can't understand the pricing options. ESXi said website is free but after installation, sales VI3 on the Windows machine shows a trail down for 60 days. Is - this trail countdown to ESXi server or VI3 customer?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Free ESXi will operate up to 32 cores if you.   In a very small number of cases ESXi has not been able to see all the hearts and which is usually resolved with a BIOS upgrade.  But is most cases, free ESXi with use all cores on the processor you are using.

    Hi KenMcC,

Yes, you can install this update. Hardware updates are not installed automatically. Need to manually install these updates. Updates are correctly configured only when you restart the system after their application.

Before applying this update, we recommend that you contact the support team of Intel to know the features of this update.

    Hello:

There is no way you can activate the AHCI in the BIOS for this drive.

The only thing you need to do is to install the latest driver/software Intel RST that supports completely SSD on the RAID drives mode including trim from the link below.  Third file listed.

You can ignore these reports because there is nothing you can do about it and no need to.

I hope someday, device manufacturers will be re - write these programs to not report problems on any PC with a 7 series Intel chipset or newer, when the disc is in RAID mode.

The hard drive is set to AHCI by default.

I wanted to put a regular SSD instead of hard drive in my G1 of 350 HP, but I can't figure out how to get out the disc.  It does not move.

Manuals says to release the cable and lift up the drive.  With what?  I tried with both hands and it is stuck fast.

I didn't want to damage, so I put this project on hold for now until someone post a YouTube video on how to remove the drive.

    One-piece

    Hi one-piece,.

Boot in the bios (F10 setup) and get off at the fall of peak.  Look at the setting for the sata controller mode and see if you have an option to select RAID.  I do not think that the motherboard in the P6813w RAID capacity according to the information I've seen made available by HP.

If you really want to RAID, then you could buy a RAID PCI card - E to support two data disks.

  • How to have SATA drives connected to an Intel RAID controller as removable drives

HI: we have a Supermicro Server with controller series Intel C600 and we would like to use some of their drives and ports as removable devices, to allow to copy media from one server to another. I mean:

-The controller has 4 ports with 4 disk on each, in total 16 records

-The first 4 ports will remain the same, not removable (BONES in Raid 1, media in Raid 0)

-Other ports (2-4) will be used with SATA SSDS, and we need to delete them via Eject hardware (such as a hard drive attached) and then be able to attach them on the backup server to read the media.

As far as I know, there is a DWORD I maybe need to add in the registry, but some help would be more than welcome to solve this problem.

It is the opposite, to not allow the HARD drive to be ejected.

Note: Serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. • ESXI 5.1 takes supported intel RAID?

    Hello, when I try to install esxi 5.1 on my server (it's a motherboard supermicro very X9SCL/X9SCM), I have configured a RAID1 (2 discs) and a RAID5 (4 discs).

I see all 6 discs, but they are not in RAID mode.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    Jason

This is because ESXi does not support software RAID. The best bet would be to find a RAID card with a cache with battery backup that is listed in the HCLof VMware.

  • Conversion of Raid 1 configuration to 1 normal hard drive with Windows XP Professional

I have a Dell Precision Workstation 380, which has been set up at the factory in Raid 1 with 2 Seagate 160 GB hard drives.  The operating system is Windows XP Professional.  I would like to delete the Raid 1 configuration and that the computer is a normal hard drive configuration 1.  Can someone help me with a step by step procedure to achieve this?

    Hi cbcenterplus,

RAID 1 means that you essentially two drives separated with identical information. In order to break the RAID is simple. Start on the Intel RAID Option Rom utility (ctrl + I), replace two disks drives non-members, and then restart your computer.  The 2nd disc will receive a new drive letter, and you can get in shape by using the disk management and have extra space.

  • Optical Drive turns W530 offshore running Windows 8

Running Windows 7, the optical drive stays on without any problem.

I would like to hear if there is a difficulty before you restore Windows 8. Win7 good for now.

  • Z210: Bad support/problem with recovery of an Z210 system when changing the RAID configuration backup

My Z210 accompanies stripped Bay RAID-0, which currently consists of 2 x 1 TB HDD where the OS partition. I want to change that in RAID-1 mirror, but as the application of TSRI does no such RAID level migration, I thought I would try another approach.

As a solution, I'd do a backup using the Windows backup and restore application. Then, I would change the table using the Boot ROM TSRI before restoring the backup to this new array. But obviously backup 1.9 TB in a table of 932GB will not

So, to make a backup, I firstly disabled 'System Protection' and the file 'Page '. This allowed me to reduce the OS partition to about 50 GB using disk management. Then I re - activate 'System Protection' and the 'Page file' before making the backup and the creation of a system recovery disk. This resulted in a backup of 35 GB that I stocked up on a USB external drive. And now a backup of 35 GB can fit on my reconfigured 932GB RAID - 1 mirror

As such, I cold booted my system and during the boot process, I pressed CTRL-I to get the State of mind RAID Intel Boot ROM. you, CTRL-I've worked only if I started cold and the HP USB keyboard directly connected the first USB slot at the back of the system. The first USB slot is at the top left when you look at the back with the portrait of the tower. Connect the HP USB keyboard in USB port or in the hub of my Dell monitor does not allow me to access the ROM to Boot Intel RAID!

HP should really study this fault

In any case, when I could access the Intel RAID Boot ROM, I deleted the RAID-0 stripped existing and created a new RAID-1 mirror. Obviously, the process is destructive and wipe the BONES of the table but that's what my backup was to

Then I started on the Windows system recovery disk, plugged the USB external drive and proceeded to recover my system.

Everything worked as expected with the operating system partition uses about 50 GB. A simple trip to disk management enabled me to extend the volume to occupy the space allocated, as presented by the RAID-1 array. As such, I find myself with about 932 GB partition that appear in the windows disk management tool. After a check disk and reboot (which fixed some minor issues) all seemed well.

    But no, everything was fine

Well that ROM boot RAID Intel sees that a mirror RAID-1 about 932 GB and the operating system sees a partition about 932 GB, both as expected, demand for Intel RST in windows States the following:

I don't seem to have indication of what type of table, it is, an options to change the name of the table or an option to check the integrity of the array through the TSRI application in windows. If something is screwed

But after the update for the application of iRST version 10.6.0.1002 Intel (the newest HP of) version 11.2.0.1006 (version Intel got very practice), the question seems to correct itself. Now the RAID, Windows boot ROM and the request of TSRI in Windows all agree that the table is indeed a mirror RAID-1 932 GB.

I don't know what caused the problem, if it's related to something that was wrong with the process that I used, if she is simply resolved by reinstalling driver, or if this is a fix for a known issue that Intel has included in their questions later from the pilot.

But what I know is that Intel has resolved a number of issues in the version 12.9.0.1001 driver (which is the latest version for the Cougar Point chipsets) compared to the old driver version 10.6.0.1002 HP has on its support page for the Z210.

And HP seems unwavering in his lack of interest in the Intels 12.9.0.1001 test pilot and then make it available on its support page for what is a product still under warranty

It is a mediocre service if you ask me...

Some HP forum administrator or HP support person hide these forums should impose it in the HP management station and get it looked at. The Z210 is still under warranty for some customers and HP needs to pick up the latest drivers available to all suppliers, test them and then release them to their customers via the support page for this product. All the rest is little change us all.

I was able to resolve the application problem Intel RST by updating to the latest v11.2.0.1006 Intel driver but it has highlighted a few points that HP should address, see linked post above.

PS: Add this post so I can mark the thread as solved.
