  Most likely, what you found, is that the iTunes version is the latest available for your operating system.

  The latest version of iTunes is 12.4.3.  This version requires at least OS X 10.8.5 or later version, or Windows 7 or later version.

  Note that the likely cause here is an older version of iTunes. Since iOS 10 is still new, it is important to have the latest version of iTunes installed. Currently, it is 12.5.1, that requires OS X 10.9.5 or later version must be installed:

  Since you currently have OS X installed 10.7.5, you'll want to update to OS X as well. You can see more info on how to upgrade to the latest version of Mac OS X here:

  The update is not just for iTunes. It is not possible to sync an iPhone on a Mac 10.6.8.

  Sync with iTunes on a Mac or a PC requires:

  • Mac OS X v10.8.5 or later

  Instead of trying to install v10.8.5, see if your Mac can run the latest available OS X El Capitan v10.11 > update of OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

  You would then have the latest version of iTunes installed in order to connect your iPhone to iTunes.

  You're out of luck.  For use with iOS iTunes 9, you need at least OS X 10.8.5.

  You can't get an older version of the iOS either.  If you must live without using iTunes with your iPhone, or get a newer computer.

  You've probably seen this already, but if not - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567 and http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 peuvent help (helped when my iPod is not in the same way).

  If no joy, as a trial of test creates a new user account and see if it can connect to that?

  I have an iPhone 3 g. It has been sitting in a drawer for years. One of my kids wants to use it. I plug in power and he says I need to connect it to iTunes. The Mac is an iMac 27 "5K retina end of 2014, El Capitan, 10.11.3 running. Is this a dead phone? I can't do anything with it?

  Just before this announcement, I saw an Apple logo appears on the phone. I thought: oh wow, I don't have need to finish this. Then he disappeared after about 10 seconds.
