irreversible bios update made noisy fan (8710p, 8710w, 8510p, 8510w, fan, F.20, F.0E)

Hey.

I just want to share my experience with the update of the bios on my computer hp 8710w laptop and talk to HP support. I've updated F.0E to F.20 and after that this fan went wild. In windows 7 it works very well every boots 2 / 3, or more. All fans of time runs fast, no matter what the system load and temperature are. What makes the portable noisy.

I used to use linux and it just fan slow down after spinning up to cool the system. It is really something that you want to have, because it becomes a noisy vacuum cleaner with an excellent machine and quiet.

I have enough evidence to assume that the problem was caused by the update of the bios. First of all, it started exactly after the bios update when nothing else has been changed. Secondly, 5 years ago I had a very similar laptop (8710p) and when I have updated the bios to F.0F, it's the same thing, but I fortunately downgraded the bios and everything was back to normal. In addition, reported others on the internet and these discussion forums.

Now with the update of F.20... There is no way to downgrade. It's embarrassing: HP has released a update this feature breaks... and there is no way back (except the replacement of the card system, which is expensive for laptops out of warranty).

I was the cat and then talk on the phone with HP support. They are not really very close to professional. First, they said that my windows 7 is not officially supported and should I install xp or vista. I have xp installed specially for them, and which consumes a lot of time. Of course, nothing has changed. And they actually all drivers for windows 7...

The best advice of hp support has been trying to install all previous versions of the bios. I reported a failure on each one, then only, they found in the description of the version F.20 could not be downgraded. After reading the forums here for 15 minutes, I knew much more technical support on my laptop and the question, lol.

After talking with me for a time very long (like 3 or 4 hours) and say that I try to restart my machine, or start with the Windows key + b, etc., they said that my laptop is out of warranty, and there is nothing that they can help me with.

I confess that the laptop is out of warranty... but only suffers from the update of the official firmware that cannot be downgraded. Yes, I know I'm supposed to buy a new replacement HP laptop. But... This look bad.

Now, I'll get a replacement bios chip, programmed with the previous version of the bios and soldered to the motherboard...

Hello to the guys at HP support. They are nice people who try to be useful, they don't know anything about their products :-)

Hello programmers to the HP bios... Please... Please be better, please learn that bugs can be corrected.

Problem solved! :-D

I downgraded to F.0E

  • Satellite Pro P200-15W: after Bios Update 1.90 incredibly noisy fan

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro P200-15W, I recently made an update to BIOS version 1.9 and seems to have been a big mistake.
After restarting the computer, I had a lot of software deconfig and the fan has become incredibly noisy.

I have the problem with the Toshiba Vista registration software, I get this message: "registration of Vista has stopped working". I read other discussions, I don't want to just disable it in the start.ini file, I would actually solve the problem if there is a way.

Is there a way to change the configuration of fans? I read a post from Toshiba on another model of laptop that has had the same problem of noisy fans after an update of the BIOS, they gave that a solution with a new version of the BIOS, is there a way to reverse the BIOS to the previous version? (recovery CD will be useful for this purpose)?

    See you soon

    Edgard

    Hello

It seems that the picture of the fan was changed and renewed in the new version of BIOS, and so fans run fall.
Why the table fan has been changed?

Well, usually something like this is necessary to improve the reduction of the internal temperature while the CPU and GPU are running with maximum performance.
This helps to prevent the equipment from damage!

Usually, the recovery CD formats the whole HARD drive (partitions too) and installs only the image of Toshiba on the notebooks of HARD drive.
The image contains the OS, drivers and additional software and has nothing to do with the BIOS update.
But you can try to recover the laptop to see if you can solve the problems of software as "Vista record"!

If you want to reverse the BIOS, you will need to contact the ASP in your country!

Sorry, but all I can suggest.

    Best regards

  • Satellite A500-1E4 (PSAR9E) - noisy fan stops is never (BIOS version 1.60)

Hello from the Czech Republic, I have also problem with noisy fan on my new Satellite A500-1E4 (PSAR9E) (i430M, GT330M) on 64-bit Windows 7 over Office Standard - see http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=46719&start=165&tstart=0.

Today I have updated the bios to 1.60 (from 1.20) and there has been no change. When the laptop powered to the top of the adapter in all modes the fan is running at 60-70% (sometimes at 90% - my office is perhaps quieter :-(). What laptop power battery in normal fashion fan and high performance race to 60-70% (loud sound) and in the economy mode to 80% (very noisy). It's crazy that in economic mode produce more noise than mode high performance. The CPU temperature is cca. 37-43 C, GPU 48-57. Fans of course never stops and all it's standart office. No intensive work or games. I can't imagine in games.

Can someone help me please, I'm really helpless. Or this fixes only bios 1.30 and next version not?

    Hey Buddy,

I think that it of really difficult to say why this happens, but in my opinion you should provide more details about your operating system and drivers.
Are you running the Toshiba factory settings or you have installed another OS?
Fan sometimes high activity is due to a different display driver. Have you installed the latest display driver form Toshiba (NOT nvidia)?

Old BIOS versions, you can get an authorized service provider

  • Satellite U840W-10J - noisy fan and the version of the bios

    Hello

    more top of the machine when you run tempro said new version of bios is available, the link to it is [Satellite U840W BIOS 6, 40 - WIN | http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory = 2 & selFamily = 2 & selSeries = 198 & selProduct = 7570 & selSh ortMod = null & language = 13 & selOS = 40 & selType = 4 & yearupl = DST & monthupload = & dayupload = & useDate = null & mode = all Machines & search = & action = search & macId = & country = all & selectedLanguage = 13 & type = 4 & page = 1 & ID = 84640 & DISO =-1 & driverLanguage = 42]

But when I go to the bios, it says the version of bios is already 6.4 - which is strange since the release of this version of the bios date is 10/07/13. And I don't know that I don't have day of the bios for this version this month :)

Why does say new version is available?
Would be - that there's a newer version available, that only that it binds to an evil?
Even if I download and try to install it, it says that this version of the rom is the same.

Second question is noisy fan, most of the time is at very high speed (and because of the odd design, when the laptop is open, screen - which becomes really hot fan).
Since no other laptop I used make these noises, if I really need to update for the bios? But which version?

Health Monitor shows the 77% fan speed - and I'm not playing games or whatever it is, cpu is always below 10%, I m doing nothing, just a light browsing can turn up to such percentage. What I've noticed, is that it becomes this top still when HARD drive this is - like application installation, download updates, etc... I have download the latest drivers intel to drive HARD, all drivers are more recent. Or is it only noisy due to bad design (fan blowing on screen), and I can use it for heavy work and just have to ignore the noise of the fan?

Last updated driver to trackpad kills finger double scroll btw, so, maybe you guys could solve the problem too? Since I had to go back to the old version.

BTW, the machine is only two days old

I think that you should not be confused on BIOS. Maybe there is a problem with Tempro. This process runs automatically and it is possible that there is a technical problem. If you have latest BIOS is OK so Don t you worry about this. Just continue to use your laptop and don t change anything.

What about cooling fan? Cooling fan is controlled automatically and according to the temperature CPU cooling fan works more rapid or slower. When you play the games you need more performance, so use leverage plan high performance. For each day of activities, use the balanced power plan. It will reduce the CPU usage, but it will be good enough for low level activities. What you can try is to change the options for the method of cooling. You can find it in the advanced power options. It should reduce fan cooling and portable activity should run quietly.

    Play around with these options.

    Hello

Everyone has noticed that the fan turns on more frequently and made more noise right now than in the previous BIOS (1.80)?

  • Pavilion G6 - 1061ee BIOS update error causing the extreme fan noise

    Hello

It been a while since that HP has completed a new update of the BIOS for my Pavilion G6-1061ee, I got v f.63.

But now, they have made a new update of BIOS that is v f.65 I downloaded the file (the insydeFlash BIOS update) and when I run it and press START, my system freeze suddenly and EXTREMELY increase fan noise, it's like my CPU usage is 300% then in a few moments, the system shuts down and I could not be able to turn on the computer again , So I had to unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery then return everything back to be able to turn it on.

So can anyone help me with this problem.

    OS: 8 64-bit Windows

RAM: 8 GB (Original was 4 GB... And added another 4 GB)

    CPU: Intel (r) Core i5 CPU M480

GPU: Radeon HD 6470 M with Intel HD 3400 grapchics

    - And thank you

    Kind regards
    Pedro Marthon

    Hello PedroMarthon.

Are you currently overclocking the graphics card?

In order to solve this problem, I think you should uninstall third-party drivers and use the official drivers for Windows 7 and the workaround posted by my peers.  The reason I suggest, is that the use of third-party drivers could cause strange problems and it will be easier to solve the problem.

What I would say is remove the third-party drivers and then using the method posted in my response above.  Once the process is complete, I would try and then update the BIOS again.  If successful, you can remove Windows 7 drivers and again use your third-party drivers.  However, I'm not against the use of third-party drivers.

I appreciated the way in which you have been given to work with me, so I went to come your messages of congratulations.  If you think that I was helpful please click the White Star under my name to give my messages of congratulations.  I would really appreciate it!

I will keep an eye out for your next answer.  I wish you a nice day!

  • Satellite A500: update BIOS V1.50 is fan noise problem reappears

I have a Toshiba Satellite A500 with fan noise problem.
It has been partially resolved the upgrade of BIOS from v1.20 to v1.30, according to this thread:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=46719&start=0&TSTART=0

Yesterday I updated the BIOS v1.50, and the sound of the fan returned.
I do not recommend this upgrade if you have had the problem of fan noise.

I have downgrade BIOS v1.30 and fan noise problem is solved again.
I know that people have problems to get the downgrade to BIOS, so I describe the process in this thread:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=50577&TSTART=0

Thanks mate for sharing this with us

But perhaps you could use the v1.5 BIOS and could reduce or reduce the activity of module cooling in Vista/Win7 power management settings.
It would be interesting to check it out

In any case thank you for this info

  • Satellite L750-A218 - fan run faster after 3.30 BIOS update

    Hello

Here's a new show, I have am experiencing after the BIOS update.

In my view, that the internal fans turn all the time by placing my hands near the keyboard. According to Toshiba software fan speed is 50% + while I do nothing. On the other hand, it is 25% before the update.

They are updating the BIOS to give the laptop more ventilation or something.
It's weird. CPU temperature is 45%. I upgraded from 3,00 to 3.30, for your information. Thank you.

P.S. The speed of the fan is stuck at 50% + and wont go lower than that.

What bothers me the most is that when I put my hands on the part at rest I feel the vibrations of the fans. I use the keyboard a lot and it is a huge nuisance. Is it possible to get the old BIOS, the BIOS updated not did me not a backup option. Also, I don't have a problem with the voice of fan (s). Its low.

Edit: Just downgraded to 3.10. Its the same thing. Couldn't find the 3.00 version, I've had anywhere. It's frustrating.

  • Satellite U500 - 11G - noise of the fan speed after BIOS update

    Hello

    I have the Toshiba Satellite U500 - 11G.
I've recently updated the BIOS because my CPU fan did not work under Ubuntu,
But after the update, my CPU fan speed is faster then normal and make a lot of noise (even if the CPU is cool) when I use Windows 7 is still stay on fast speed making a lot of noise.

Do we sort of degrading the BIOS or thw way to earn the slow CPU fan speed?

    Concerning
    Sagar

Update BIOS because of Linux? You know that Linux is not possible on this laptop model?

In any case, to reduce the fan sped Please reduce the cooling in saving settings method.
Control Panel > Power Options > go to your preferred power plan settings and choose advanced power options > Toshiba saving settings > cooling method > set to optimized battery.

  • Satellite A200 - BIOS update and fan activity

    Hello..

I have the Satellite A200-1AH (PSAE6E). I have installed the version of the BIOS 2.10 update and electric fans started working out loud. I want to install v1.30 BIOS (the best for me) but I can't find it anywhere. Can you help me please?

I noticed that Toshiba has updated versions of BIOS 4 times in 4 months. So does that mean? I want to have the mobile rear silencer

I guess the Toshiba engineers have changed some values in the new BIOS update and thereby you have noticed this problem of fan. I think they have a few reasons for this.

If you want to have the old version of the BIOS, you should try to contact authorized service provider in your country. They should have.

  • Pavilion 500-046: fan runs loudly after BIOS update

So I downloaded the BIOS and sends an update notifications HP wireless. Consumer Desktoop PC BIOS update HP (family ROM SSID ZAEO). After the restart, the fan on my PC very strong rotates every 30 seconds or so for about 15 seconds then turns off; sometimes even more frequently. It's never happened before. Anyway I can fix this or go back to the old BIOS or something?

Then I opened my PC and went home with a feather duster and a vacuum. This ended the problem.

  • OptiPlex 160 BIOS updates not (because the fan is missing?)

    Hello

I just had a 160 of Optiplex opportunity (model DC01T) with BIOS A06 and have tried everything so he could update BIOS A10, A09, A08 or A07.

I downloaded the BIOS in DOS/Windows unified and put it on a key USB of FreeDOS.  When I run the package, it runs through everything and then restarts, but never actually updates the BIOS.  I tried to install Linux on a USB Flash drive, install the Dell OMSA tools and use dellBiosUpdate pointing to the A09. HDR file.

For some reason any that also fails because the module dell_rbu does not ' / sys/class/firmware/dell_rbu / ' as it should.  No amount of copy 'init' to ' / sys/devices/platform/dell_rbu/image_type "also helps to correct this problem.

The only thing I can think is that when the system restarts it goes to a "Fan Alert!" message because this unit didn't come with the fan & HD support.  I have one on its way, but if this warning/error is clearing the BIOS update flag then everything should work once the fan comes and I get that connected.

If this is not the case is there anything else I should try?

I finally got figured out if anyone is interested.  The fan error could be the cause of the normal update to fail, but by using a bunch of switches, you can force the update to install, and then restart.

    Hello

You can set Windows Power plan settings in order to improve the cooling system.

    Changes in the operating system:
--> Power Options control panel--> change the parameters of plan--> change power avancΘs--> TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings--> cooling method

Changes in the Bios (power management):
    Intel Turbo boost Technology

    Changes in the operating system:
TOSHIBA HW Setup--> the CPU frequency mode

    Try this settings:
Plan (Toshiba power save) optimised battery
Technology Intel Turbo Boost (BIOS) - disable
    The CPU always low frequency

From my experience, this should reduce the noise.
