Is a good PNY CS1211 SSD for my computer?

I own a MacBook Pro and I am wanting to upgrade the HDD with a SSD and I wonder if a PNY CS1211 SSD (480 GB) will be my fast computer. Also, I wonder if I can exchange my SuperDrive with a trolley that can contain a HDD/SSD without voiding my warranty. Please answer; Thank you very much!

I own a 13 "MacBook Pro early 2011 2.3 GHz with 16 GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 RAM.

SSD drives... OWC (macsales.com) or Cruical are most recommended.  I've been running a Crucial SSD for 2 years without problem.  Samsungs have many problems reported here... maybe because of thousands used if the questions are obvious but even Samsung does not claim full compatibility Mac on their Web site.

As for replace the Superdrive by 2nd drive... not really a 'guarantee' issue with a 2011 system that has left no guarantee.  But it is not exactly "authorized" by Apple.  You might get some resistance of Genius Bar if you take it in to... say... battery or display or the logic of Council's questions.  Probably if it was still in warranty the warranty would be void.

You say that you do not want to open the case.  Is it fair to clone the disk or you are not going to install it in the computer?

I have a HP 810-135qe Phoenix.  I installed a Samsung 840 EVO 500 GB SSD2.5 ".  It works absolutely great.  I cloned my HHD using the software of the Data Migration tool provided by Samsung.  In addition, the Software Wizard to adjust the performance of the SSD.  There is a section to download at the bottom of the page in the link I have provided.  It is one of the SSDS a few who has a good reputation for installation without changing the BIOS.

  • What SSD for early 2009 imac?

    Hello

I have a question to choose the good ssd for my imac 7y/o (9.1) since early 2009.

I found a few good SSD as the samsung 840 BX100 or critical, but I've also read several times that a ssd sata3 will use sata1 when installed on a sata2.

And that is why it is better to install a sata2 ssd.

IS that still the case today? Given that these messages are coming from 2013.

Or is that I can put in an ssd sata3 and it will run on sata2?

    Kind regards

    Ivo

SATA III drives that use the Sandforce controller will come back to SATA I speed if installed on a computer that uses the Nvidia MCP79 SATA controller. Samsung does not Sandforce. My Macbook in early 2009 with a Samsung 840 (pre Evo, not Pro) negotiates the SSD SATA II speed, connected to the MCP79.  OWC also still sells SATA II disks, I have one in my late 2009 iMac. I chose this drive, even if it was more expensive because OWC insisted that my model should have the Nvidia controller but in reality it has controller Intel 5 series. I didn't take my iMac except more than once.

    Confused? Yes I know...

  • Add the SSD for HP Pavilion desktop computer

    Hello

I would like to add an SSD for my HP Pavilion 500-035ed (office). I do not want to replace the existing drive, I would add a second drive.

I have already noticed a free sata connection and a free power cable, but I didn't notice a physical position for the support and the screws etc...

Does anyone know if there is a manual that describes the physical position for a 2nd drive in HP Pavilion 500-035ed (office)?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello

Look at the picture below and see if your model is configured for one SSD installation.

I see that your particular model is native/sold to the Netherlands.  There is a forum member that frequents this forum who lives in the Netherlands. Hmmmm that's a good guy!

  • Best SSD for a T420 under $ 200

    Hello

I'm awkward between a T420 and a 220 X, especially because the X 220 has a smaller screen and I don't know how I'll be able to adapt to that (I already have glasses, so...).

What is the best SSD for the T420 under $ 200? Almost any larger than 100 GB capacity should be fine for me as I intend to get a UltraBay housing and put the HARD drive.

    punjabimunda wrote:
Crucial than any other brand? I'm more interested in the series from Intel. Which Intel series should I watch? As I said, I don't have huge sizes. Good speed is a +.

The Intel 520 series is also very popular, as is the Samsung 830 series. They are all good. You could do a search on Google for reviews and comparison tests, but I suspect that you will be happy with any of them.

  • SSD for my Aspire V Nitro 15 VN7 - 571 G-72UZ

    I can add a SSD for my Aspire V Nitro 15 VN7 - 571 G-72UZ? It's super slow...

    Absolutely Yes.

Update to the SSD HARD drive is a good way to improve your PC. My suggestion is to only install the OS on the SSD if the HARD drive still works. Then use the HARD drive as secondary storage. This would save space on the SSD so you won't need to buy SSDS with capacity. I don't know what your operating system, but normally a 120 GB SSD is sufficient for the OS. And you can install some favorite programs if there is a lot of space left after the installation of the operating system.

Clean install and cloning two works, yet if you want to keep all the current personal settings, cloning is the best choice. You can learn more about transfer of HARD OS to SSD drive here. Note that after cloning or a clean installation, you will need to remove the old HDD or change the boot settings in the BIOS to check if the operating system starts. If everything is OK, reformat the partition to the OS on the HARD drive in Windows PE mode (you cannot format under Windows environment).

    Kind regards.

  • Compatibility SSD for HP touchsmart all-in-one PC?

Hey all, my parents have a HP Envy 23 Touchsmart all-in-one PC. The model number is 23-d117a.

He has a mechanical hard drive 2 TB in it, and I want to replace it with an SSD for Christmas. I have no qualms with opening on the back of the PC and on the hard drive Bay to do the physical installation, and I can understand how to clone the content of the hard drive on the whole quite easily.

I just want to know if there will be problems with compatibility. I guess most of the time a hard drive is a hard drive and that it will work as long as it uses the correct file format, but I don't know if HP has put any kind of limits on the machine that prevents him from working.

In addition, it is less important, but if anyone can recommend a good support to the smaller SSD fit into the 3.5 HARD drive enclosure and again the line upward with the connectors, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks for your time.

    Hello @Solidiquis,

I understand that your question is if there are restrictions on the use of a DSS on your parents HP ENVY 23 - d117a TouchSmart all-in-One desktop PC. As much as I know there is no restriction on the use of a Solid State Drive on this computer. In fact, I found this document for computer explaining the differences. FAQ of propulsion hybrid Seagate Solid State. As for the recommendation on the necessary adapter unfortunately I can not make a specific recommendation, but I believe that everything will work. Here is an example of what you are looking for StarTech.com 2.5 "to 3.5" SATA aluminum box drive hard adapter with SSD/HDD up to 12.5 mm height.

I hope that I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • SSD for HP Envy dv4 5312tx

    Hello

can I add an SSD for my hp dv4 5312tx envy?

that one is recommended? and how do I restore my 8.1 existing windows to new SSD?

    Kind regards

    Andy

Yes you can. Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

See page 38. The best SSD buy is a Samsung 840 Evo like this:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=9SIA29P1EC5222&cm_re=samsung_840_evo_ssd-_-20-147-248-_-product

I'm having a hard time finding information about the model you posted. Are you sure you typed it correctly? If you had Windows 8 initially I can link you to an OEM restore disk image. You can also clone the existing overhead for the SSD drive, but you should get a pretty good SSD size to make. You can also use the HP revovery DVD made from the HP Recovery Manager or you can rstore from a backup of Windows System.

Post back if you need more specific help.

  • Cloning of SSDS for SSD

I just bought a HP Zbook 1517 that works great on Windows 7. It has a 256 Gb Solid State Drive (SSD). After having used it for a few days and put away there files and folders I commonly use, I wanted to have a back up. So I bought a new SSD 256 GB and using another cloned computer the original SSD for the new SSD using Macrium software. As far as I could tell, an exact clone were made. However although the original SSD always starts the Zbook, I can't boot from the clone SSD. According to me, the bios must change, but I'm not totally sure what I should do. Help, please.

    Hello

I think that you need to fix the MBR. It can be done by a Windows 7 install disc or DOS environment with orders bootrec /fixmbr bootrec /fixboot and then.

Unetbootin is a good utility to do too much.

    (1) it will work with a u260

    (2) is it actually fit INTO the slot? Or it will eventually stick on the side of the computer

    (3) (it's a little sad), how do you get the open PCI slot? I see it on the left side, but it does not seem to come off. Why Lenovo put the slot just hide behind this piece of plastic?

  • Questions new installation HD SSD for MacBook Pro

I followed the online instructions how to install the SSD for my MacBook Pro. I then rebooted by Mac in recovery mode and formatted the drive in Mac OS extended (journaled). It was a little bit tricky message sometimes giving such as erasure of disk failures, but eventually it worked. I selected to install the OS on this HD. The image of the OS were first shown on OS X Lion, but my current OS is El Capitan. I just figured that he was installing the original operating system provided with the mac. The installation went well but then we he had finished wen timer back to 1 hour, 46 minutes. He made several times and after 6 hours, I decided to leave and start over. The second time after erasing HD and formatting again the OS that came was El Capitan for installation so I continued. This time, the installation has been completed and at the end says "OS could not be installed on my computer, reboot and try again." On the third attempt has received a similar message from the failed to install ' year error occurred during extraction of the files in the package "Essentials.pkg." " »

Anyone has any idea why this doesn't work or suggestions please?

About 2 months ago I reformatted my HD original as installed latest OS El Capitan as the mac has been slow. Does have a report with questions I get on doing the same thing with another HD?

    What model of MacBook Pro?

    Which SSD model?

    You have another Mac?

    Possible causes:

-Incompatibility of your Mac with this specific SSD. Recently, some users have reported what appears to be these incompatibilities

-You damaged the cable flex between the drive and the system board.  It is a common problem and causes intermittent problems initially and if it's even worse the Mac will see is even more disk

-You have an another hardware problem as RAM bad or other component.

    I'd do it

    -Run Apple Hardware Test

Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support

-Connect an external drive and install OSX on this disc and boot from this facility and see if you have any problems

-If you have another Mac download a compatible OS x Installer for the Mac App Store and create a USB bootable using device

    http://liondiskmaker.com/

and install OSX on the SSD.

This is the Office Mac Pro forum. I asked that your post moved to the appropriate forum.

I backed up my current HARD drive for Time Machine on a G-Drive external hard drive.  Can I restore my backup for the SSD of Time Machine, or are there additional steps?

    Thank you in advance.

Any SSD with a box 2.5 "will be compatible with your MBP.  I recommend OWC SSD or critical based on my experience and other participants of CSA veterans.

Installing the SSD is the same as for a traditional HARD drive.  Watch this video:

    https://eShop.MacSales.com/installvideos/macbookpro_13_unibody_early11_hd/

You must format the SSD in Mac OS extended (journaled) disk utility.  You can use Time Machine to restore your data on the SSD.

    You can follow these guidelines:

  • Addition of DIY SSD for iMac end 2013 now out of warranty

    Data sheet:

    • iMac (21.5 inch, at the end of 2013)
    • 2.9 GHz i5
    • 8GBs of RAM
    • 1 TB HARD DRIVE

He is now out of warranty, so I think about adding an internal SSD flash drive. However, I did no workshop manual and have never looked inside. However, before making such a change, I would like to know if it is possible, how it will be difficult and if one SSD 2.5 "can be added or a PCIe SSD if there is a slot on the motherboard.

If you have useful information, I would greatly appreciate your passing along.

The end of 2013 21.5 "has only one SATA connector on the system board so your only choice is to replace the hard drive, cannot add a second internal drive. You can find several guides repair for your computer here https://www.ifixit.com/Device/iMac_Intel_21.5%22_EMC_2638

If you decide to open your iMac and replace the HD you can consider upgrading your ram 16 GB as yours is the last 21.5 "with ram slots even if they are not user extensible https://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/1600DDR3S16P/
