Is EQL supports ODX?

http://www.Petri.com/Windows-Server-ODX.htm

It works on EQL?

Yes, the EQL supports ODX Windows. Make sure you use FW 7.0.7 or because it has been a major difficulty for Windows ODX/VMware VAAI.

Take a look at TR1096 "Using Dell EqualLogic storage with Microsoft Windows Server 2012".

    Hello

Since it has not been used, I suspect it is no longer under contract? The service contract is what keeps your license for the software and firmware that Dell is in charge of the PS Series SAN associated.

If you will not be able to update the firmware, if that's the case. If it's somehow, then you download the firmware on the site eqlsupport.dell.com, login required. The upgrade would take action a bit. 4.2.x->->->-> 7 6.0.x 5.2.x 5.0.10.. 1.x-> 8.1.x-> 9.0, which is common. There is a firmware u; Guide with each version of firmware that includes a table with this in grade.

Note, firmware update requires not never delete data or resetting the table.

Once that access you the switch, you'll want to level it as well. Many patches associated with iSCSI for the switch.

    Hello world

I've encountered a weird problem our PS M4110 of storage. When I ssh into the management console and a command (for example: pool see the default selection), it returns a correct output - information on the default pool. However, when I send the same command as part of the ssh command (for example: ssh [email protected] "hen see the default selection"), - after a successful authentication -, I get the message ' unsupported command: pool see the default selection.

I use ssh it very long with all kinds of devices, and what's more, I have a vague memory that actually used to work even with this particular case. Someone has an idea of what could be a problem?

    Hello

When you connect as grpadmin, you are in a group CLI program. This is not the same thing you are trying to execute commands via SSH. Orders are not passed IN the CLI program.

If you want to run commands, download the Scripting Host tools since EQL support site. You select the Firmware version that you are running. You can use the current version of the same family. That is, if you run 7.1.0 you can select Package 7.1.x version. You can find a link for the Scripting Host for Linux and Windows tools. These have all the files you need to use PERL or Python to script on the chart commands. There are examples of included scripts. I prefer PYTHON PERL for how its text handling and better support for SSH. PERL seems to do better through TELNET which I do not use. Installation of PYTHON PARAMIKO makes it transparent.

If you install the HIT / ME software that includes also all the PowerShell cmdlets, you need.

I looked and looked. with nothing does not.

When the Group has been set up, two passwords have been set. For grpadmin and one for the password 'membership '. This 2nd password is required to add another Member of the group.

This solution from EQL support site explains how to change that. It is also in the Administrator's guide.

  • EqualLogic & large virtual file shares. 4 TB +.

    Hello

We have accumulated a large amount of raw video and it begins to grow at 2 TB per year.

We currently have a virtual windows file server with an OS of RDM level to Equallogic volume.

Is - that the best way to continue to 10 GB + or have us think differently?

    vVols?

    Thank you

    Damien

    Hello Damien,.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure what you're asking.

EQL supports up to a volume of 15 to. Type of GPT partition supports this format. Depending on how your data is stored, you can use several volumes of inside the VM with RDM. (letters of different drives or mount points) That would avoid the use of dynamic disk and extend volumes. Each virtual machine can have four adapters virtual SCSI with 15 drives on each card. Which is about 900 TB per server. Instead of using RDM, you can use the inside the guest MS iSCSI initiator to connect to EQL volumes. Who removes this limit of 900TB. That would allow to use the Host Integration Toolkit for Microsoft. Improved MPIO and uniform/snapshot replication. Also add support SCSI UNMAP to W2K8 R2 &. He was born in 2012 & R2.

Re: 10 GB +, I'm assuming you mean 10 Gb Ethernet? 10GbE doesn't impact much the size of storage if you grow only at 2 TB per year. There are benefits to 10GbE, of course, if you intend to go anyway.

vVols works very well as RDM. So not real huge advantage here.

Questions I would have is what the IO load you currently see? From SANHQ. What is your current EQL HW and ability? The latest addition to the EQL family, the 6610 has up to 84 drives each and you can have 16 of them in a single group. That is a huge amount of space with 6TBG readers, 1.3PT of RAW capacity.

  • Snapshots created with the EqualLogic VSS provider are not displayed in SAN HQ

    Hello

Poster for the first time. We have just implemented an EqualLogic SAN, PS6100X network, and we're having performance issues between our DPM backup server, one of our hosts Hyper-V and VM images stored on the San. I will try to provide as much information as I can

    Environment:

Dedicated iSCSI using Dell Force10 switches network

    hyper-V (Windows Server 2008 R2) 3 hosts
-2 hosts has a NETWORK 4 port GB dedicated adapter connected to the iSCSI network; 1 host has connected to the network iSCSI NETWORK 2 GB dedicated ports card
-Each Hyper-V host computer has a dedicated on the EQ SAN, RAID-50 volume that stores the Hyper-V virtual machines
-EQ VSS provider installed on all hosts Hyper - V 3 and works correctly

    Using DPM 2010 for backup

Problem: on Hyper-V hosts 1 and 2, any/all backup activities are very slow. On the Hyper-V host 3rd, however, activities related to backup all are incredibly fast! We compared the NIC configurations, HIT / settings ME and ASM, but we cannot understand why it is so slow on hosts 1 & 2.

In addition, whenever DPM 2010 tells the EQ VSS provider to create a snapshot, we see the snapshot being created in the EQ Team Manager, but he does not appear in the list of iSCSI connections. According to the documentation SAN HQ, instant and volumes should appear here.

We also disabled TcpAckFrequency for all 3 hyper-v hosts. It helped a little, but there is still a HUGE difference with regard to backups of the DPM.

We're pretty sure that there is something misconfigured on the hosts Hyper - V 1 & 2, given that the host Hyper-V 3 has no performance issues.

How can I get snapshots to appear in the list of iSCSI SAN HQ connections?

    Version information:
    SAN AC = 2.2.0.5924
    Storage Array Firmware = 5.2.4

There are two different issues in this post for the SANHQ doesn't show only not iSCSI connections.

Now SANHQ displays the correct total connection number but doesn't provide details of connections individual iSCSI for snapshots, which it should. So in the meantime use Workgroup Manager that shows the details for each snapshot (I know that's not the best answer, it's a short term solution).

The fact the SANHQ shows details of instant connection does not mean that they aren't here and I can't imagine anything to do with the question of the DPM.

The real difficulty, look for upcoming beta SANHQ and subscription for this on the EQL support site. You can do it now.

  • Reference Dell EqualLogic 6010 initial configuration

Hello. I have a dust collection Dell EqualLogic 6010 in my test harness. He was sent by another office, for reasons unknown. I would use this feature to unload a few backup copies of vm in the development of our san to this device of 16 smaller disk. I only have one switch that comes with it, but for its intended use, this should be good. I only will link a physical server to it where my backup software. (I wish I could just direct connect, but I read that it is not possible, or at least not recommended) The problem is... I don't know where to start.

I tried to put in place of guides, manuals and Setup guides, but the single pdf I find is more on limits, best practices, what he can do, etc., rather than from step 1. (like, indications which include the implementation of rails and all that usually skip us... lol) Can anyone help with a quick course guide or accident? Maybe point me in the direction of certain documents?

For example... series in I do? If so, what are the default creds? There may be a default ip address that I can connect my laptop in to start the initial game up? Or y at - it a config that I can run on the same subnet as EMC VNX implemented who will find unconfigured devices? I really can't find any of this set up information of this device. I hope someone can help.

    Thank you very much. :)

    Hello

You have a username on the EQL support site? The documentation is a quick installation guide.

1.), you can use the serial port. 9600,8, n, 1 NO flowcontrol. (Series cisco cables do not work) Grpadmin default login, password grpadmin. (assuming that it has not already been implemented)

2.) If you have an EQL support account, you can also download the HIT for Windows or Linux. Who has the Remote Installation Wizard software. Who will scan the local subnet for the not configured matrices. Then allow you to configure it through the user interface.

Re: switches. You need a 10GbE switch. The 6010 will not negotiate until 1GbE.

  • VMWare using only 1 IP of EqualLogic PS6000

I have a new configuration of vSphere with 2 hosts ESXi (Dell R610s) and all my a new EqualLogic PS6000 storage. I use the Broadcom NIC for iSCSI (all other traffic exceeds a secondary NIC 4port). Right now I use 2 ethernet ports on the R610s and PS6000 for iSCSI. I followed the instructions in the document "setting up VMWare vSphere software iSCSI...". "Dell for 2 different iSCSI VMKernel interfaces configuration. The PS6000 uses an IP address of the 10.30.1.1 group and the 2 network cards are 10.30.100.1 and 10.30.100.2 (all with a 255.255.0.0 netmask). The problem I have is when I connect the R610s to the PS6000 via the IP 10.30.1.1, the PS6000 only redirects them to 10.30.100.1, forcing all traffic from these two hosts in the same VM. I tried connecting a computer non - ESX (my Mac desktop computer), and it sends me to 10.30.100.2, so this interface works without a doubt. What I'm trying to understand now, that is exactly how I have VMWare to connect two IPS to distribute the load between the two interfaces on the PS6000. The PS6000 reports 2 connections by volume of each ESX host.

Does anyone have an idea what I should look next?

    Thank you.

I opened several requests for EQL support about something similar to this. In many cases when I migrated a table in an existing pool, or when I activated interfaces more I don't see connections spread. I saw the following:

-Select Eth1 and Eth2, wait a few hours, run IOMeter tests, all connections are always on Eth0

-Restart the controller, now all connections are on Eth1 and Eth2 with none on Eth0

-Wait as the rest of the weekend and check Monday, iscsi connections are balanced.

The above situations have happened to me a few times and I have been informed that the balancer connection will be finally doing things. I think something has changed with this code over time, it was that the balancer spreads connections very quickly.

  • Update Firmware PS4000 EQL 5.2.1-> taken 6.0.5 supported?

I just wanted to check with the community, since I've revised the release notes for the firmware PS v6.0.5 and did not see the "supported upgrade paths as the other versions have always had.

I'm okay to upgrade a 5.2.1 directly to 6.0.5 PS4000? Or do I need to install an intermediate firmware version?

    Thank you very much!

Yes, 5.1.x or 5.2.x can go straight to the 6.0.5 firmware. The matrix is in the Firmware Upgrade document for 6.0.x, not release notes.

  • Drive not supported PS6100

    Hi all

I'm looking to see if there are SCENARIOS for the error message dreaded "drive not supported" other than a player who does not EQL firmware on it. Initially, we ordered accidentally a W347K to replace a failed drive of 600GO, which are not EQL brand, is so not surprising that we have seen the message disc not supported. Then, we ordered a drive of one-third of the brand EQL and installed it. The label looks like a dell/EQL/enterprise storage with p/n 02R3X label, and he turns and looks like it should work fine, but we get the same error of unsupported disc. DOA drive? Firmware incompatibility? No matter what else it could be? I think somehow, the seller has replaced the Equallogic firmware, or printed their own label and slapped on top of a generic label of seagate. I don't have a way to physically watch the disk myself so I paint no doubt some unfair conclusions.

    Thank you

I've been double check something. It is possible that a failed drive may show as not supported.

There is something you can try if you can restart the table. Remove the drive and wait two minutes. Then restart the table. This will failover to the other controller. Insert the disc again and see if it shows up. If it still comes up not supported, I would ask your salesman for another drive.

  • Connection of the EQL team

    Hello

Our systems have been designed and constructed by a dell partner, but I was unable to find articles online back up their design.

    6xR810 with 8 network ports

    2xPC6248 switches

EQL PS6500X completely filled 8 ports connected network (4 active)

R610 servers run 2012 R2 and have two teams configured integrated using making team with 4 NICs assigned to each team.

-'1', that has all the virtual NIC connected and uses LACP to team.

"iSCSI team" the independent switch value.

When I look at the use of the adapter, it looks that only 1 of the 4 network cards takes virtually all traffic with the rest of the idle.

I know that from 2012 team R2 is supported for iSCSI, but is this correct configuration in this case?

    Thank you

    Hello Bob,

EQL does not pool. Which is why you see only a single connection. You must configure MPIO with the iSCSI initiator. You should have a connection on the EQLsupport.dell.com site. You can download the HIT / ME software, v4.7.1. This will include software to optimize the MPIO specifically with storage EQL. iSCSI should be on its own IP subnet, so spend 2 x NICs for iSCSI and the other two for your normal aka traffic 'LAN '.

  • Shopping for EQL #2 in addition to the current PS6100XV

    Hello

Right now I am in the final stage of shopping for an additional EqualLogic add additional space to our current (and only one) PS6100XV (24 x 600 GB 3.5 "15 k raid-10 disc). Altought, we could add a type unit E, I decided to add another unit SAS written first, as we do very little (50/50 averaged about 2300 IOPS / s total), the third unit will be a SATA if performance wise allowed.

The new unit is going to be a PS6210X (24 x 600 GB 2.5 "10 k disks) that is provided with 2 x 10 Gbit port dual controllers were our current unit has 2 x 1 Gbit quad port controllers (Greens). As I said there is no problem to run the 10 GB on 1 GB modules and put the in a group (network of dedicated btw).

After making sure that our current unit has recent firmware which is > = the new firmware units, it should be simple enough or are there warnings, I might be missing here?

    Hello

Are you planning on moving to 10GbE in the future? Yes, specifically the series 6210 controller can operate at GbE. It is the only painting of 10GbE EQL can also. The 6210 will only work EQL FW v7.0 or more. If the existing Member will have to be upgraded to the current version of 7.0.x.

If you are not planning on moving to 10GbE, you might want to consider getting another system of 6100... Only downside to race to GbE 6210 is there are only two ports in total vs the 6100 with four Gigabit Ethernet ports.

Given that you are currently using dedicated port mgmt, the new unit will also need configured this way.

What type of switches are you using? Make sure that the connection between the switches is sufficient to support the additional load of I/O. So if they are not stacked switches, you may need to increase the trunk ports. This is a common problem, one sees, adds another Member and performance falls down due to lack of Inter-Switch connectivity.

  • Reference Dell acceptable EQL PS4100xv latency

    Hello

    I had a Dell PS4100xv with 3 three servers connected via 2 x PC6224.

The total consumption of the IOPS / s does not exceed 600 IOPS / s. Most of the OPS / s time is about 300 IOPS / s. In looking at SAN HQ, OPS are / s taken max supported by the table on the RAID 6 should be about 1500 ms.

The latency is about 20 to 50 ms. However it reads about 80 to 100 m, but it is not maintained.

What is the acceptable latency for the EQL? I have Windows 2008 R2 SP1 and some Linux virtual machines.

    Application performance is acceptable.

    Thank you

    Paul

OK, that will certainly be delayed ACK and / or LRO. In addition, should check that MPIO has Round Robin with IOs by path to 3. (Default for RR, 1000 IOs before moving paths)

This link is a PDF which covers all the best practices for ESX + EQL. There are some very important parameters for the performance and redudancy in this guide.

    en.Community.Dell.com/.../20434601.aspx

The question of priming is probably different from the issue of latency. Given that very few of IO to the SAN occurs during startup. If you look at the EQL GUI, you can see the speed at which the connections met.

  • Using NDMP for backup battery Dell EQL PS4000 volumes

    Hi team,

One of my existing clients is pleased to use NDMP to backup volumes and vsphere two data warehouses are on Dell Eql PS4000 table.

    (a) how can we use NDMP with EQL?

    (b) what are the required components to enable this feature to make I need to FS7500 or any software backup?

    (c) procedure and configuration of activation NDMP with EQL?

    Please advice possible options.

    Thank you

NDMP is not supported by the table itself. The table is storage of blocks, NDMP requires access to the files. The host to connect to the storage must support NDMP.

With a FS7500 you can do. You will need to create based NFS data warehouses and migrate all virtual machines there.

They looked by backup software existing for VMFS data storage? Because the backup software must support NDMP anyway.
