Is it possible to do the restore DB sauvegardΘ FS?

Hi all

I would like to share the question I recently confronted... Here's the scenario

We took cold backup dB (calibration to 900 GB) of disk, via RMAN. We took FS (file system) backup of this backup disk to tape using Legato MML. There is demand to restore the DB using the same backup and be hosted on another server. We had two options:

(1) do a restore of FS to the target (in the same directory structure) and to restore with RMAN

(2) PCS of all backup sets to the target (in the same directory structure) and to restore with RMAN

We chose the first, but it was a lot of time... I believe that another time demanding.

I doubt if its possible do DB restore directly from (FS backup disk to tape backup) tape rather than do restore FS and do restore DB?

I thank you for your answer as soon as possible, we expect several of these applications in the near future

Jils

Hi Jils,

Temporarily your san migration will be (much) faster compared to the tape backup and restore.
Anyway after you configure rman, the fra and the NBM (coldbackup) procedure would be:

Make a backup of the fra:
connection target;
Connect the catalog rman/define_pwd@define_rcv;
stop immediately;
bootable media;
backup database;
ALTER database open;

The fra to tape backup:
connection target;
Connect the catalog rman/define_pwd@define_rcv;
run
{
allocate channels c1 type 'SBT_TAPE ';
allocate channel c2 type 'SBT_TAPE ';
backup recovery area;
output channel c1;
output channel c2.

}

On the second server

connection target;
Connect the catalog rman/define_pwd@define_rcv;
# could be that you must set the dbid
# set dbid = define_dbid;
STARTUP NOMOUNT;
run
{
allocate channels c1 type 'SBT_TAPE ';
allocate channel c2 type 'SBT_TAPE ';
Restore controlfile;
SQL 'edit the editing of the database';
restore the database;
SQL ' alter database open resetlogs;
output channel c1;
output channel c2.

}
Kind regards
Tycho

    Dell Studio 540 Quad core 3, 2 GHz (don't remember exactly?) processor

    Windows Vista Edition Home Premium

    In general, everything was working fine until I ran the auto update for Vista. I don't know exactly which updates made it crash (that's the downside to update automatic, I guess?), but what happens is;

    PC powers up correctly, and everything seems to be in order up to and including the connection procedures. Once connected, the first error message pops up saying: "Windows Explorer" is not working properly and has restart. This will make a loop again and again, and as long as the error is running, I'm not able to perform all actions either. The only thing I am able to do, is to run the Task Manager, but if I try to run applications, programs or processes there, the Task Manager itself is in need of a reboot. So, basically, the only action I can perform the Task Manager is turn off the PC safely.

    Helps out;

    Ran memory diagnostics, no error found.

    I ran system restore, not detected no results. (....) According to me, if I could run Vista system restore as soon as Windows Explorer is stable, I can choose a restore point prior to the restoration defined point in chest upward and it will solve the problem.

    I ran the repair of the system, but the PC does not recognize a problem, according to the definition, the start sequence works as it should.

    I ran the security modes to see if I can access previous system restore points, but like windows explore does that no action can be taken. It's the safe mode; Base drivers and base with network connection drivers.

    I ran the command line safe mode, that works very well, but don't really know what I can do from there.

    I have the option to reinstall the OS, but I hope a response must be made of this? My thought is;

  • Recovery partition exist but the RESTORATION is not possible

    Hello world

    I have a problem for my laptop (Dell XPS 15) recovery. I have the RECOVERY partition on my computer with all the files... all together 7 GB including Factory.wim. During execution of the restore process, described millions of times on the internet, I've not found an option with "DATASAFE."... "neighter"restore to factory State. I tried different ways, but the main thing is that the COMPUTER does not see the FACTORY.wim. I get notification indicating that the IMAGE file was not found. What could be the reason and how can I solve this problem.
    Thank you very much for all the feedback.

    Damian

    Hello
    Sometimes, the problem is solved by the person who posted it... and when his ppl makes you forget the forum.
    Therefore, here. I had a partition that had all the files recovery. But, as mentioned previously, I could not restore to factory stage.

    What I did was copy THE FILES from the recovery partition RECOVERY (there is a folder named Recovery) in windows-> recovery... or as long as the file is placed in your computer... I had to look it up.

    Bottom line is I search in MY COMPUTER the EXACT files that were contained in the file Recovery on a recovery Partition and replace them. (of course, to make a copy in CASES WHERE). When I started computer even once, I could already click the ICON of RECOVERING FACTORY...

    YES, it WAS so SIMPLE... and no HELP DELL MOVE FINGER IT...!
    Hope this works for you

  • Satellite A10: How to use the restore CD?

    Hello everyone,

    I would like to restore my Windows due to problems of somes, so I inserted the recovery of (1) CD. The partition of loading began but very slowly. After you insert the CD 2 ° (only after a couple of hours), I left it for a few hours. When I got home, the display shows the command-line C: >.
    The command C: > dir /p gives something like

    Tools dir
    Restore.bat
    ....

    Could someone what happened? What do I do now?

    I thank very you much for any suggestions!

    Hi Torcy,

    I would normally not more than 20-30 minutes to complete the recovery. The progress indicator should show a steady increase up to 50%, after which it should invite you to insert the second disk.

    It is possible that you laptop has problems to write to the hard disk. You can check this by listening to a sound of rattling repeated during the restore process. It is also possible that your CD is having problems reading the recovery disks. Check them for dirt scratches or fingerprints.

  • Unable to get the restore to work - Satellite 1410 disc

    I have a Toshiba Satellite 1410. During a restore of system with restore disks, I forgot to plug it. During the windows set up (this screen where you put in your country and all that) the battery has flat that I plug!

    I tried to throw the disc again, as it came with a box when I rebooted that said "the system is not fully restored. Please re-run Setup '. So I turned off and restart, then the message goes up after that windows image appears during startup.

    I bought this laptop second hand so I have all the manuals or books with him, I do not know the keys on which support to MSDOs not that I know what to do from here, I do not know which key press during boot up to get the CD to work, I have pressed the keys left right and Center and found exhaust takes me to a page of the system but anything to get the CD to run again that I thought would get just the restoration will once again.

    So now it starts up saying ' not completely restored system, please run the installation again.

    Someone know or seen this before, and someone can tell me if there is a simple answer, which key support during the start up or how to fix this?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

    As Daniel said in the first assignment by pressing the C button the laptop should boot from the disc. Please press that several times the C immediately after the laptop from.
    Then you can be sure that the option has been enabled.

    The other possibility is to enter the BIOS and then to change the initialization of the order on CD/DVD first

  • Satellite M70: How partition the HDD via the restore CD?

    I'm going to format and reinstall XP on my Toshiba satellite M70 via the restore CD.
    It has 40 GB of hard drive. I want to ask is an option in the recovery CD to partition my HD before you install the OS, just as we can do so through XP CD?

    Enemy thanks any help.

    Of course, it of possible to create a partition with the recovery CD Toshiba delivered!
    You must use the recovery expert mode.
    So to change the size of the partition in the ghost window. For example, from 40 GB to 30 GB. In this case, 10 GB remains free.

    After the installation of the OS, it must go into disk management in the computer management. (right-click on the icon my computer Manage)
    Here, you only have to make the visible 10 GB partition.

    Another possibility is to use a Partitions Magic 8. This tool allows you to create and manage partitions after installing Windows

  • Is it possible to clear the CMOS on my Satellite L100?

    Hello

    I recently bought a Satellite L100 170 and it would boot for Windows XP but it had the button "restore active desktop." However after the reboot it now disappeared to a password screen before Windows starts.

    Someone has ideas on this and is it possible to clear the CMOS as in a normal desktop? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Al

    Well it of not possible to do of this type on the desktop. The architecture of laptop motherboard is simply different! You can also not to remove the BIOS password by removing the CMOS battery! This will not work!

    There is only one solution! You will need to contact the ASP in your country for assistance. The technician was able to remove the password using a special program of Toshiba.

  • drive hard accendentily wiped with the restoration of the system, trying to recover the backup. How can I do this?

    HP Pavilion Slimline s3320f desktop PC

    Windows Vista

    My brother tried to get my hard drive to a new computer and accedentally erased the hard drive.  the computer has been saved before this wipe.  I was wondering how to restore or to access saved information. There are about 9 GB of backup files.

    The hard drive has been reinstalled in the original computer and everything works fine.  I just get this info.  Please help if possible.

    The recovery partition is not a backup of your data. The sole purpose of this small partition must perform a full restore from the hard drive to the first day, as if you just bought the computer.

  • Is it possible to change the location of the default download for windows updates?

    I have a problem with space on the C drive and need to have the windows updates to download to a different location is it feasible?

    Updates are automatically downloaded to the subfolder WINDOWS\Software Distribution\Download.
    They are then unpacked on the drive that has the most free space available and installed from there.
    The contents of the subfolder download is empty regularly.

    There is no way to redirect where updates are downloaded for security reasons.
    Suggest run you Disk Cleanup to free up space disc.

    If the installed operating system is Windows XP , you can also remove old system restore points
    by clicking on the More Options tab and then click on the cleaning the button in the system restore .
    You can also resize the disk space used by system restore by opening System in Control Panel.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    Click the drive that SR is followed, and then click the settings button.
    When disk space use , move the slider to Min in order to reduce the amount of retained restore points.

    In Windows Vista / Windows 7 , there is no such possibility in Disk Cleanup .
    In Vista , the only recourse for the restoration of the system is to uncheck the box next to the disk, that it monitors the disable, click
    Apply, then OK. Will erase all the restore points.
    Turn it back on, and then create a new restore point.

    In Windows 7, you can open System in Control Panel.
    Then click on the System for the Protection link in the left frame.
    Click the drive that SR is followed, and then click the Configure button.
    Move the cursor located under disk space to delete old restore points or click the delete button to delete all restore points. Then create a new one by clicking on the button in the system restore in System Properties .

  • Is it possible to reset the date of the last virus and update the spyware definitions in XP?

    I have xpsp3.  I was looking at my calendar to find out what day of the week, an event that happens in November, and unfortunately I forgot to go back to the date of the day before I have updated the definitions of viruses and spyware on MSE.  Now, MSE think my latest definitions of viruses and spyware are obsolete, because they were supposed to be updated three months from now.  So my question is: is it possible to reset the date of the last virus and update the spyware definitions in XP?

    Correct the date on your computer. Remove the antivirus/malware product and reinstall.

    -OR-

    To restore before the update, use the system restore. Make sure the date is correct. Update.
