Is the upgrade to Windows 7 'free' HP destructive?
Best Buy Geek Squad told me that the HP Windows 7 upgrade will totally wipe my hard drive and I need to reinstall and reconfigure all my programs and restore all my files. Is this true? It doesn't seem right to me...
(Of course if I pay them to do, they can preserve my programs & files).
Unfortunately, it is an example of someone trying to misrepresent something that isn't true only in very special circumstances, so that you will pay for the service. If you upgrade the equivalent versions of Vista to Windows 7 and may not move from 32-bit to 64-bit (or vice versa), a simple upgrade is possible. I still recommend a custom/clean install but the upgrade is absolutely an option. It is only during the passage of XP or 2000, or when swtiching since something like Home Basic Professional or swtiching to (or from) 64 bit as a custom/clean install is required.
BTW, if they said they can "preserve your programs" is a lie, pure and simple, to a custom setup / clean. If you do not format as part of a custom/clean install, your files will be kept, but functional versions of your existing programs are never preserved - they are moved to Windows.old in a non-functional State. Of course, if they are just going to charge you to stick the DVD in and run a standard upgrade, then most of the programs will be preserved, but they are really just in charge of inserting a disc and clicking on upgrade. They have no special training and (if something is wrong with an upgrade) can't do anything that you couldn't do yourself if you make a backup before continuing.

HP Stream 13: Beware of the upgrade to Windows 10
I have just told me that in Hp Support the HP 13 Stream is not recommended for the upgrade to Windows 10 due to the lack of space and memory for this new operating system.
I thought it would be interesting as well as alarming to soemwhat.
This occurred after I contacted them for help and a solution to a failed update of the ' Intel dynamic and thermal Framework Client Driver SP 72416. As a result, I did a sfc and dism scan to check the status of the file system and the final result are reports of corrupted files and source files could not be found.
I should add that at the moment windows 10 works very well on my stream and a recent update of Windows loaded and installed ok. I currently 11.5 GB of free space on the C drive.
HP support recommend reinstalling windows 8.1 provided to ensure a workbook entirely for the present and the future, because they anticipate the future updates and developments with Windows 10 is likely to produce more problems with the stream.
Now this threw me after all the recommendations pushes and apparent and challenges for the upgrade of this small notebook with 10 Windows. I'll hold fire for now with other changes, while I go over what to do next.
Someone at - it something to add?

HP Pavilion 15-ab032TX: after the upgrade to windows 10...
Hello... I have recently upgraded to windows 10 against windows 8.1 original factory installed. Now, after factory reset/restore my OS answer 8.1 original windows or windows 10 will retain as well as all the drivers? My recovery partition has also been updated with windows 10 or is there any means to do so? If I need to reinstall windows 10 can I go with windows ISO 10 or I'll have to do it from windows update? Can I make recovery fee/dvd player for windows 10 with windows/HP recovery manager after this upgarde?
Hello
1. depending on how you restore your machine, but using factory reset your machine will be back to 8.1 for Windows
2. no recovery partition will not be upgraded to Windows 10. You create the recovery/backup media BEFORE the upgrade to Windows 10 otherwise it can become useless.
3. Please read:
http://www.windows10update.com/the-Windows-10-free-upgrade-FAQ/
4. No, HP Recovery Manager does not work like that. You can use the Windows 10 tools after upgrade

Laptop Compaq CQ58: LAN Ethernet does not work after the upgrade to windows 8.1
After the upgrade of Windows 8 to 8.1, my Ethernet LAN is no longer in effect. Wireless LAN connectivity is OK. I run the HP Support Assistant and downloaded the drivers for 8.1. Hovever, I don't see a listed 8.1 for the LAN Ethernet driver.
It seems that you encounter the same problem, I did when I ran the free preview of the W10. I had this error on the card reader. I have no idea how to solve this problem.
Is there is no ethernet controller needing drivers in Device Manager, then it is probably the realtek lan adapter that has the number 12 of the code, or it is part of the motherboard that controls the ethernet adapter.
If you need Atheros bluetooth driver, then this is probably the one you need.
http://h20565.www2.HP.com/hpsc/SWD/public/detail?swItemId=ob_127984_1
Unfortunately, I won't be able to help you with question 12 code or ethernet.
IMO, they are insoluble.

Windows 7 Ultimate (MVP version) for the upgrade of windows 10
I read here on the forums that depending on your version (selling retail or OEM), your upgrade to Windows 10 license will be allowed to transfer to a future computer with new hardware or we will be limited to current pc hardware.
I have a version of Windows 7 Ultimate MVP, is - retail or OEM?
I would like to know because I want to buy new hardware (CPU, mobo, vidcard etc) in 2016.
Depending on the response, it might be interesting for me to wait for the Windows Update until next year and buy new hardware before July 29, 2016.
If the upgrade of Windows 10 has the rights to transfer to a new material based on the version of Windows 7 Ultimate MVP, do I need to install the version of Windows 7 first before the upgrade again to 10 Windows on a new pc?
Given that the "'free update is based on your current version of Windows 7 and is linked to your current hardware, you will need to re - install Windows 7 on your new hardware and then upgrade to Windows 10 GWX icon before July 29, 2016.

Is the complete software reinstallation required after the upgrade to Windows 10
People,
I have Win 7 Professional and opted for the upgrade to Windows 10. I have a number of licensed, like MS Office software, complete Suite Adobe and Autodesk software, for which I have no media or installation Setup files.
My question is after upgrade, I have to reinstall everything on my machine or all these software installations will be kept? Because I lost track of the installation for all these software media, it will be very expensive for me to buy everything new. App 'Get Windows 10' has not reported any of this software.
This was one of the main reasons I couldn't move to Windows 8, reinstall all of these software are unaffordable for me.
I'd appreciate any help on this matter.
Thank you
SID

Firewall blocking the upgrade of Windows 8 to 8.1 Windows - either ports or sites are blocked
our company has an external firewall by Fortinet. My boss has blocked everything that is humanly possible. Well so I can't do the free upgrade 8.1 on some Windows 8 35 computers. He claims that the firewall does not block anything. I however disagree. Something is blocking. I try to open the Microsoft Store and it closes before doing anything. I know that there are several ports blocked, it blocks any SSL web traffic and all Microsoft unless it has been expressly asked to be open. Windows 8 computers cannot download same normal updated via update automatic.
So, I need a list of websites and/or the ports used by Microsoft to facilitate the upgrade of Windows 8 to 8.1 Windows. In addition, SSL is involved in any way with these updates?
Anything that can be provided can help me to prove to this guy that his firewall is the bane of my existence. He wants me to these upgrades, but I can't do them unless I take the machines home and I'm frankly sick of doing this! Then he told me that he does not want to take me home systems. So, how I do my job? Help!
I really want to get these computers upgraded to Windows 8.1.
Thank you.
