  No, VCOPS will check the license from a server. You can check for the time that you connect on the admin page. There is a line called: "vCenter Server license: This is probably the first recorded vCenter server.

  I'm planning my system now. My boss went ahead and bought some of the SRM licenses. I intend simply to protect my main site to a single restore site. I have three ESX host with two procs on the main site. I know that I need a second license of Virtual Center for the recovering site. Do I need two licenses of server MRS? I have one now. I have also only licensed processor SRM. I need five more. Is this correct?

  About six years ago, I got a laptop with Windows 7 on it. It rained a little. A friend helped me later exchanging the hard drive for an SSD to operate even more pleasant.

  A year ago, this laptop has melted its motherboard. A repairman has helped me to recover the files and install the HDD in the shell of a used laptop from a similar model, and it worked well again.

  Then came the big 10 Windows upgrade-a-thon. I was quite happy with Win10, until just a month ago, when a required update bricked the thing. It would start up, go through the login screen and then the monitor would go black and the computer wouldn't do anything. Even attempted hard - reset would put it just in "standby mode".

  A friend ended up having to recover my files again before you wipe the drive and reinstall 7. The problem is, I have no idea what to do for the activation code. The original laptop is recycled probably at this stage, the current has a label with all the ink dispelled.   I downloaded a video of my own using the Firefox Addon to unplug myspace page. It saved in my files, but when I try to open it, I get a message that says: 'a licence was not issued for this computer. When I click 'ok', it brings me to the block Presonus Studio One asking me to purchase a license now. • Issue license ROBO

  Hoping someone can help me solve a license problem I have...

  We have several hosts of ESXi 5.1 existing in the branches (1 per branch), they are currently licensed using the free version of ESXi. I would now like to add these servers to a new Server Standard central vCenter 5.5 so they can be managed through that. For this we bought licenses of VM ROBO 125 (Standard) licence.

  My plan was just to add a hosts to vCenter both and change them to ROBO licenses however the first snag I hit was that you can't add a free licensed with ESXi host to vCenter, just enough so I thought I'd just change it back to the eval method to add it and then modify and utilize licensed ROBO. However, it seems that the eval mode has been fully utilized until the free license has been added so I can't change it back to the eval mode.

  I then noticed that we had a business license of 5.5 spare CPU 2 on the vCenter, so I added the host (change so that it uses this license during the import process). It worked and the host is now in vCenter using the company key 5.5 (although it shows as using a key Enterprise 5.1 of the same number), he didn't complain that the license key was invalid due to me using a key of 5.5 to a host 5.1 of the license.

  However when I went to change to use the ROBO button, I get a an error 'A specified setting is not correct: licenseKey " and it won't let me change the license ROBO. It is not clear to me why I am getting this error, but is there a specific problem with a host from a host permits licensed ROBO (I have not found anything about it)? I found this article VMware KB: licensing to a host ESXi fails with the error: a specified parameter is not correct: licenseKey which indicates that there might be a license version number issue however I would have thought I would have got this error when I tried to apply the license 5.5 host to the host in the first place but that has worked well. The ROBO in vCenter license just said v5 rather than v5.5 is therefore a specific point of ROBO license version and I need to downgrade to get a license for 5.1 or is going on here about something else?

  I could be wrong, but this could be linked to the ESXi/vCenter Server version you are using. If I understand correctly the ROBO new licenses properly, by VM license requires ESXi and vCenter 5.5 Update 2 or later (see for example compare VMware vSphere Editions). In previous versions ROBO has been licensed by processor.

• vSphere 4.1 5 upgrade and licensing issues

  I currently have two server PowerEdge 2900. They each have two processors to 4 cores of each and 24 GB of RAM. Each server has a license in advance of vSphere 4 for 2 physical processors (1-12 cores). I also have vCenter 4 Foundation installed and licensed.

  I am looking to buy a new PowerEdge 620 with 2 processors, 8 cores each, and 128 GB of RAM.

  I want to do the following.

  1) upgrade the vCenter 4 to 5 license. Upgrade 2 CPUs with a value of 4 advance to 5 Enterprise vSphere vSphere licenses.

  2) update my installation of vCenter vCenter 4 5.

  (3) install ESXi 5 on new server PowerEdge 620.

  (4) migrate all virtual machines (guests) to a PowerEdge 2900 server to the new server 620.

  (5) Server Decomission the 2900 now blank.

  (6) keep the other server 2900 HA around and the low priority. VMs (I'm undecided as to whether I should upgrade to ESXi 5 on this one).

  Changes to licenses of 4 to 5 seems like a maze, but according to my calculations, 2 processors of licence 4 set to upgrade to 5, should give me enough for 2 CPUs and 128 GB of vRAM on the 620. It's my first time going through an upgrade like this, so I was hoping that someone with more experience could weigh in on this plan. I'm completely missing something, and he will be missed horribly? Any extra info / advice is appreciated.

  Don't worry about this. Only old license on the portal keys will be disabled when you upgrade the key to v5. There is no license on your systems check, which will disable the host or vCenter Server.

  PS: Although there is no verification of the license, it is your responsibility to ensure that the old and the new licenses are not used simultaneously. It would be a violation of the EULA.
