Issue of Migration cold

When you perform a cold migration when starting from CD you get a prompt that shows "no available network connection. You want to update the settings of the network at this time. "

My question is when you click Yes, you get the options to statically assign IP, subnet, default gateway, and dns...

Here - would you enter the IP address of the physical server you are trying to migrate? or would that be a new IP for VMware Converter to connect to the network?

It depends on the operating system and the type/use of the system (e.g. domain controller, Exchange server,...).

Basically, you shouldn't ever hot convert a domain controller, because this will usually damage the AD. For Exchange of data bases, etc., you should consider to stop services to have a consistent state without open files.

  • Issue of Migration cold very Simple...

    Hey guys,.

I'm relatively new to VMWare, infact, I take the vcp - 310 exam tomorrow, lucky me!  In any case, I have a very simple question, basically I can't find all the information on how to do a migration cold or in fact if it is the right solution to my problem.  I rebuilt my server ESX (3.5) and kept the VMFS volume local orginal up thanks to its VMs located on it.  Now, I want to attach them to the newly installed ESX, I can easily create new ones and add the drive but that is not the same, for example will be difference NVRAM, VMX, etc. files.  Is "cold migration" what I'm looking for?  Or is there another way I can fix this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

witch hunt... Just find the data store in which the virtual machine is on, browse this data store, find the virtual computers folder and inside you will see a .vmx file.  Right click on that and choose 'Add to inventory' and follow the prompts.

  • Migration cold - how many simultaneous servers

We have a customer moving servers from one host to another host in the same ms. We do a migration cold because there are some limitations to this customer and no SAN/storage network so all local drives on the host server. Although we can now do vMotion without storage applications SAN/network has some limitations too and client wants to move which is supported by the seller and do not go by what VMWare can support. Our question is when we make cold migration using vCenter doing this option, stop comments right click migrate host and data store servers how can we move simultaneously at once a single server at a time, or we can do more than one. Any help would be appreciated. I am less familiar with this side of vmware, so feel free to ask for more information in case if I did not understand our scenario.

    VCenter is 5.5

Esxi host on source version is 5.1 and destination is 5.5.

There is a little math to do, but you can see the rates here: https://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-55/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.vsphere.vcenterhost.doc%2FGUID-25EA5833-03B5-4EDD-A167-87578B8009B3.html

  • Migration cold trip via lan or san?

Assuming that VM moves to the data store CF on the same host or different host with the same access to FC storage shared... migration cold trip via lan or FC san?

If you change data on the same host warehouses, data are transferred through HBA.  If changing hosts but vm location does not change, it changes just the host on which the virtual computer is marked (e) on.  If you change hosts and data warehouses, it goes on network.

  • Make pseudo migration cold with free ESXi 3.5 VI Client?

Even if I used VMware products for years (Workstation, Server), I'm still pretty new to ESXi.  I started using the free ESXi with the idea to be able to live migration between ESXi hosts.  However, I then discovered that you can't do vMotion with free stuff.  No biggie; I probably don't need it anyway.  All I really need is the ability to move virtual machines between ESXi hosts.  I'd settle for migration cold.  However, after reading the article on migration in the basic manual Admin, it seems I have to use Virtual Center to be able to do.  Am I wrong?  And I'll take it, Virtual Center is not a free download.

But do I really need to Virtual Center to move virtual machines between ESXi hosts?  It seems to me that I could just use VI client to do a migration of the nickname 'cold '.  Is there something wrong with the following scenario:

    1. all VM files are kept on a central NFS server.

    2. I stopped the VM on HostA.

    3. Add the virtual machine to host b inventory.

4 remove the virtual machine from the inventory of the HostA.

    5. I turn the VMS on host b.

Of course, this is not automatic and not stupid, but it's free so I can't complain.

Thanks in advance for any information or advice you can give me.

No, and that's all a 'cold' vmotion is anyway...

Take a look at this http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9400 (ghettoQuickMigrate.sh) (free vmotion)

  • Migration cold vcenter server VM to another logical data center

    My version is 5.0

I have a vCenter with multiple logical datacenters.

I'm under vCenter on a virtual machine on a host in a datacenter.  The SQL Server with the vCenter database is on the same host.

I need to move the two virtual machines to a different host in another data center.

All LUNS are accessible from both hosts.

I'm under standard vSwitches, not distributed.   The vSwitches on each host have exact same exchanges that are put in place.

Can I migrate successfully cold other guests off the power, remove them from the inventory, save them with a new host and power back on.

However I'm not sure how to migrate the vCenter cold and SQL VMs.

My first thought was to turn off the power, connect the viClient directly to the guests in question and delete them from the inventory on the current host and save them to the new host.

What I don't know is if the vCenter database will have a problem with the location of the machine since I do change out vCenter.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

Welcome to the community - you thought initial is correct since migrate is a function of vcenter but Word of warning make sure that you select Remove flexible financing inventory and not delete from the disk - remove inventory will remove form VM guests of stocks without deleting the VM disk shape.

There will be no problem with access to the database-

  • vDS to migration cold vDS

Is there an easier way to cold migrate a VM from vDS VDS service without removing the vNIC?

My current environment has 2 data centers physically separated with about 15 guests in each.  vCenter is configured with each data center physical with a single Datacenter/15-host Cluster and vDS defined for each.

The current process before the cold migration is to remove the vNIC (s), and then migrate the virtual machine to the desired location.  Is there a way to better or easier to do this?  My dvPgs exactly the same labelling would solve this problem?

For this kind of scenario, we have created the following workaround solution in our environment:

Create an additional vDS (we called it TransferSwitch), add all the guests of all the centres of data/clusters, but without any physical connection.

A migration process cold one cluster/datacenter to another then realized in three steps:

    1. connect the NIC of the virtual machine to the TransferSwitch

2 cold migrate the virtual computer to the destination

    3. connect the NIC of the virtual machine to the destination vDS

This avoids remove/re-adding NIC of the virtual machine and all the consequences (as a new device detected in the guest operating system, with a different MAC address).

You can create the right TransferSwitch temporarily for each VM migration, but we decided to keep everything permanently.

  • Migration cold with snapshots

What is the best way to cold migrate a virtual machine with photos, if snapshots may be taken first?

    Thank you

    Hello

    (1) turn off the virtual machine. Remove the virtual machine from the inventory...

    (2) move the file to the virtual machine of the old data to the new data store store & browse the data store.

Add 3) the virtual machine to the new data store inventory.

    (4) it will contain snapshots.

  • Issue of migration

    Hi guys;

Looks like I'll buy a new iMac today.

I have an iMac (27 inch, mid 2011)

    My question is this.

Can I migrate my Info for the new mac?

The new mac has Thunderbolt 2 entered the back whereas mine has 1 bolt of lightning (I'm assuming that it Thunderbolt 1 due to age)

Also, a new will be accompanied by El Capitan and my current mac is running Yosemite. Is this a problem?

    Drew

Neither should be a problem - you can also ask at the store when you buy.

And all the apps that worked with Yosemite should also work with El Capitan - check the developer site (s) to see if you need to update.

  • DMVPN spoke of issues after migration double ISR2 3925 hub to ASR-1001 X

    Hello world

After our hub solution migration DMVPN double ISR2 3925 to ASR - 1001 X (running asr1001x - universalk9.03.12.03.S.154 - 2.S3 - std.SPA.bin) we started to have some problems with tunnels rays beat (which goes up and down) and sometimes never came.

Running 'show dmvpn' speak it is stuck in State PNDH to our hub. To solve the problem, we run 'stop' and then 'non-stop' on the tunnel interface to actually speak that DMVPN Monte. Also runs "clear encryption session " on the shelf often solves the problem. So, it seems that the question has something to do with IPSEC.

When the problem occurred, and then debug crypto ipsec, crypto, crypto isakmp and crypto engine socket the following can be seen on the hub:

  • Issues after migration to one macbook to another.

I've just migrated from my macbook pro15 to a new macbook pro 13 retina.

I migrated my files and applications anywhere in the transfer from one machine to another and now I have problems with Photoshop CC.

I can't open Photoshop as it asks me to install the Application Cloud Creative Manager, that I previously had installed and should therefore be met.

I tried to download it and install it, but repeatedly get an accident shortly after it starts the process.

I tried to uninstall the existing applications and start from scratch, but they will not uninstall without the application manager. I ' v been deleted manually to see if that would help, but no joy.

I am at a loss as to how I can get the apps on the machine.

    Any help appreciated.

    See you soon

    Chris

If it's good for you, remove all Apps and Adobe on folders and then install again as a new Installation, it will be ideal to avoid these problems somewhat in the future. As you had migrated Apps and its support files.

Just uninstall and reinstall will overwrite the files on an existing folder that is very well . But complete removal and re-setup is ideal.

Good to know information about full manual removal and re-setup process,

    (1) trash Adobe apps to Applications.

    (2) trash below mentioned cases of Applications > utilities.

    • Adobe Creative Cloud
    • Adobe Application Manager
    • Adobe utility.
    • Adobe Installers.

    3) files Adobe garbage below locations.

Files from Adobe will be present inside the Application Support folder.

    ~/Library/Application support /    [ User library ]

    /Library/Application Support /     [ Library system ]

Then run Adobe Cleaner tool and select the option all own .

    http://download.Macromedia.com/SupportTools/cleaner/Mac/AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool.dmg

Then install Adobe Creative Cloud app.

  • The issue of Migration

    Hi all

We intend to migrate our oracle database server to the new server. We have apex 3.1.2 installed on the old server. We intend to install an Apex 4.0 on the new server.
What is the best way to migrate the existing application to the new server? I appreciate your help.

    Thank you

    Hi James,

If you do not have too many applications I could import them to the new server one by one.

But the other approach works as well.

    brgds,
    Peter

  • cold vsphere 4.1 - should migration take how long?

    Hello!

We begin the process of upgrading our hosts and components vSphere 4.1 to 5.5.  We have to increase the RAM on the hosts and therefore need to move some virtual machines between hosts.

Some of these virtual machines have no VM Tools installed, so they must be cold migrated.  Stop, migrate, restart, rinse and repeat.

I'll do some tests, but my previous experience on it's a little blurry.  Let's not storage, just the virtual machine.  I remember this will only take a couple minutes to complete.

What is your experience with this kind of cold migration how long does?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Cold migration of MSCS cluster node clients?

Work on the establishment of a MSCS cluster on 2 hosts.  The hosts are the ESXi 5.5 build 1892794.

My shared disks are RDM compatibility mode physical that I have attached to a second SCSI controller in physical sharing mode.

My cluster validation wizard is successfully completed.

However, if I turn off the guests, everyone migrate to a different host (with FC to the RDM LUN connectivity), turn on and then run the cluster validation Wizard error e/s disk wizard reports on tests of arbitration and failover.

I learned that when I see these mistakes I can unsubscribe the VMs, detach the storage from the host, restart the host, attached storage, re - save virtual machines, and then validation is successful.  However, it is a bit complicated and if I say lose a blade and need to put one of my guests node elsewhere, I want to do without the time and hassle.  Is this possible?

I know vMotion is not supported with the physical bus sharing, but this ban applies to cold (power off) so migration?  Or is this an indication that I screwed up my configuration?

    Any thoughts would be great.

    Thank you

    Here's what VMware has sent:

    =======================

-A virtual machine that has a ROW in a MSCS cluster connected in physical compatibility mode cannot be vMotioned.

-Even if you do a cold vMotion (stop the virtual computer, then vMotion), the ROW could be detected as vmdk and you may need to remove
She and present it back or re - enter as you mentioned.

-Best practices recommend Vmware are that - before the migration, remove the ROW of the virtual machine, and then migrate the virtual machine. Once the
VM was vMotion, then you can attach the RDM to the virtual machine.

Unfortunately there is no work around on this
    scenario.

    ======================================

So I guess the cold, you can migrate the MSCS cluster nodes but sometimes it does not work quite as well and so its best to remove the ROW before migration cold.

Thanks to all who have posted!
