Issue whith EXSi 4.1 installation

Hello

I have problems installing EXSi 4.1 on an Asus P5Q - E motherboard.

The configuration is: a Sata CD and a Sata HDD not formatted, both on the controller Intel ICH10 Sata ports.

CD starting it until the screen validation 'Type F11 to install' and just after tapping F11, the shutdown of the PC, a black screen with tracing appears.

Last info is 'vmkctl. "HostCtlException: could not load module/usr/lib/VMware/vkmod/vmfs3: failed"

I tried several times by different storage configuration of the BIOS (IDE, SATA AHCI) with the same result.

So...

Maybe this question related to access HARD drive, even if Intel ICH10 is reported to be taken in charge?

In this case, the installation using a SATA PCI-E card (and also to access the RAID configuration) might work?

Thank you very much.

Explanaition given by asatorian seems to be right: ICH10 supported but impossible installation on native SATA drives.

Many cases, ICH series 'works' If you change mode in the BIOS.  (for example: try "Legacy IDE" instead of AHCI or RAID.)  You will not get RAID, just readers.  (ESX only supports hardware RAID and non RAID software, which is what ICH is.)

... Does this mean he could work with a SATA drive, attached to a SATA/RAID controller card supported?

Perhaps, but as already suggested, it is very probably do not have a supported network card.  ESX is very picky about what NIC and HD controller.

That I found in this thread not supported motherboards that worked well with ESXi4.0, had problems with the installer for ESXi4.1.  Therefore, if you use your model of motherboard as you google somewhere that it worked with ESX, it could very well NOT work now with ESXi4.1 you can try what I did in this thread by installing on another system, and then moving the hard disk or USB on the motherboard.  Or install 4.0 and then upgrade to 4.1. But no guarantee.

Since these disabling Firefox works well. But I was forced to use another browser for a week until you find the time to research the problem.

Why are these called not - for and of course (at least one) annoying plugins installed by default? It does not have any good Firefox!

Plugins are not included in the Firefox download, because Mozilla is not allowed to distribute. Firefox automatically detects the plugins on your system through a number of methods, so it was a good idea to revisit and disable those you don't need. I have really no idea whence the special ones.

  • On the issue of LR2 LR3 demo installation

I currently have LR2 installed on my laptop. I'm out of town for a long period of work, and the project I turn often requires very high ISO. I wanted to try the LR3 noise reduction to see if it would be worth the upgrade for me. My concern is that I don't have my LR2 disc or the key with me here. If I choose to stay with LR2, would I be able to continue to use it without reinstalling or who have need of the diskette or key again for some reason any?

    Thank you

    Aaron

LR 3 will install regardless of the LR 2, so you can have both on the laptop. During the installation of LR 3 it will ask if you want to convert your LR2 catalog in a catalog LR 3. The conversion will not delete the LR 2 catalog.

If you are working with this catalogue, it cannot be converted back into LR 2 in LR3. (i.e. 2 LR will be unable to read the catalog LR 3.).

If you decide to buy the upgrade of LR 3, you as well your number of license of LR2 and LR 3 license number to activate LR 3 when the trial period runs out.

LR 3 is a major upgrade and a new treatment called 2010 compared with the LR2 technology called 2003 technology. (e.g. technology designed by the year 2010 compared to technologies for the year 2003)

    SUNWi1cs SUNWi15cs SUNWxwfnt

Is there a reason that SUNWsprox appears in the code example, but not in the list above?

    Just curious!

It looks like a typing mistake. To be fair, installation guide he says "to determine if the necessary packages are installed, enter a command + similar to the next" (my italics!). For Solaris 10, I think you can skip the SUNWspro check * x *. Told me that the library which was SUNWspro * x * Solaris 8 and 9 is now in SUNWspro * t * to Solaris 10. Check with Sun.

  • Issues of start-up after installation of updates last week

After HP or microsoft updates installed last week (the two are set to auto install) my laptop - Pavilion dv7 is having published the beginning upward. When the Office lights after start upward, my security essentials icon is red and my network icon has a blue spinning circle in it. After about 10 minutes and then a box pops up saying HP Support Assistant not working, looking for bugs (or something to that effect). 5-10 minutes later, the box disappears from high office, Security Essentials will illuminate green and the laptop connects to my network. This could be the cause of this problem? If I restore to before last week, everything works fine until the computer is updating again...

    Welcome to the HP Forum,

It seems that 'something' in the update list does not approve the configuration of your system.

    • You can turn off the automatic updates: Set of updates from Windows to notify you when updates are available so that YOU can decide which updates you want to download and install.
    • Disable "Recommended updates", if you wish.

Try the following to dig up the "broke" your configuration update:

    1. Use system restore to return the system to a working state.
    2. DISABLE automatic updates in Windows Updates - notify only the value.
    3. Reset one of your programs and settings that have been lost due to "going back in time."
    4. Manually CREATE a RESTORE point.
    5. You can even take this opportunity to create a new backup for your System Image.
    6. Then, in Windows Updates > > check for updates
    7. The updated list will show you that the updates are available for your system.
    8. Select AN update to the time - and install it.
    9. Restart the system - check the result.
    10. When you have found the culprit, stop > use system restore to 'come back' when things worked.
    11. Search for "Updates" in Windows Updates
    12. Find the update of 'Guilty' in the list of "Important available updates"
    13. Right-click on this update and then click on "HIDE".

Let it "Auto-Updates" off - a lot of people do it and it works very well.

I hope this helps you solve the problem.

Click on the star of congratulations !

It's a big 'thanks' for the author's efforts to help.

  • EXSI 4.1 Installation

Hello all, please help me with this.

I have a hp proliant 165 G7 server running windows Server 2008 R2. I decided to install ESXI 4.1 on it and it seems ok, I installed the client vsphere on another machine and the connection between client and host of ESXI succeed. But the problem is that the server can I not boot windows server 2008 more! It starts from vmware Hypervisor and stops with the following screen:

"VMware ESXI 4.1.0 (VMKernel Release Build 348481).

What you are doing now are actually using more of your server, in a better way.

You put a 2008r2 on that vm for ad, dns and dhcp, maybe an another vm for Web sites, another VM to test another vm for... etc. When you run out of room, memory etc. you just to buy a new server now and start adding the vm is to this one.

This way you use your resources more effective and it is indeed a very good practice.

You don't have any idea where you want to go with this well. ESXi is very powerful and has many features.

  • New installation of XP PRO sp3 does not recognize the 500 GB HD

    OK, here are the details:

System: Computer PORTABLE of Acer Aspire 1700 Pent4, 2 GB of RAM, 80GB (3.5 "full-size, trainee) IDE HD [this is the original HD on this laptop of size important which is designed to use disks 3.5" hard].

Initial situation: Windows XP Pro (SP3 integrated) installed on HDD of 80 GB and works without poblems. BIOS does NOT show the ability of the intern HD in the BIOS screen. BIOS reports only the model and the serial number of the HD, and there is no options to specify the HD type/format (e.g., MLA, etc.)

Available: Win XP Pro bootable CD slipstreamed with SP3; It is tested and verified work well to install PC or laptop!

When running XP Pro on a partition internal 80 GB HD, and when I join a brand new WD 500 GB IDE HD via USB, HD is recognized correctly. I can partition and copy data on the HD 500 GB with no problems!

When I replaced the old 80 GB HD with the new HD 500 GB HD interning on the laptop, I have the following problems:

    1. I can NOT boot into Windows XP Pro (SP3) which was Ghost on the HD 500 GB of the old 80 GB portable HD it recharges, and if I try the console recovery or secure boot, then the laptop restarts also.
1B. I have Ghost xp partition to 80 GB HD to a piece of spare HD (40 GB) and replaced the 80 GB with the 40 GB HD and was able to start the laptop without problem. So the problem is NOT related ghost!

    2. I can't perform a clean install of Windows XP Pro (SP3 integrated) because Windows XP Setup recognizes the HD 500 GB GB 131 HD. Therefore, the remaining capacity is not recognized.

    3. I can NOT perform the installation of Windows XP pro (SP3 integrated), even if I have previously partition new HD 500 GB by attaching it to a free desktop PC and use Partition Magic, partitioner of Paragon Disk or other partitioning tools. After partitioning prior, when the 500 GB HD is installed on the laptop (as a trainee HD), then win xp installation lists quality HD of GB 131 and lists the existing partitions as corrupt!

    4. Curiously, if I use Knoppix, Debian, Ubuntu or linux boot CD Mint and start the laptop computer with one of these linux distributions, then the linux installer recognize the HD properly during the phase of recognition of material and later during the phase partitioning HD, the linux system to report a full capacity of 500 GB available for partitioning. In addition, when there are partitions, partitioning linux program then lists these partitions properly as well!

Considering the 4 points and especially MS Windows XP PRO (integrated with SP3, which should recognize HD with sizes exceeding 137 GB limit - from MS says you must be at least XP SP1 to overcome the size 137 GB limit - and that the different distributions of linux can see the full-size HD 500 GB with no problems) which is exactly the problem with Win XP? Why it does not recognize the full capacity? And how to win xp recognizes a 500 GB capacity, if the new HD is attached to the laptop via USB as an external drive when running XP PRO (SP3) of the 80 GB internal HD?

so... Can anyone sheds light on the issue with Win XP Pro installation on HD 500 GB IDE?

    Nicely,

    LO

    Hi Palcouk and Doc,

I think that's the final answer!

Although, there is a mixture of simple to complex responses to the problem at hand, what it all comes down is that there is a significant difference between the installation of Windows XP and Linux installer program. The XP installation program needs help from the BIOS to deal with HD, and if the BIOS does not support, XP not has no facility to remedy the situation. OTOH, most of Linux new kernels rely on the BIOS for a limited number of extended, but communicate directly with the hardware, in this case, with the HD and therefore manages the material accordingly.

It seems among users of dual-booting (win/linux) using old PCs, it is a matter of very pretty. What they end up doing is using the first 137 GB that is seen by the BIOS without problem for XP (either as a single partition or divided into several partitions), and the rest of the space is used for Linux because linux has no problem.

I guess that it really nails the problem with my laptop to a BIOS NON-lba-48-bit!

Then close this thread as answered or matter who has more to say about this?

    LO

P.S.: It was very nice meeting you fellows and appreciate all the help and tech expertise.

    Hi, Jerry,.

    Uninstall your antivirus software

Tips for solving common problems when Windows 7 won't install troubleshooting

    1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor to see if there are known issues that might affect the installation and correct them.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/downloads/Upgrade-Advisor

2 disable any security software: anti-virus, firewall etc. Don't forget to activate the Afterwords.
3 make sure that your computer has the BIOS and latest drivers. Update of the BIOS can be risky, don't do that if nothing else works.
    4. disconnect all external devices except the keyboard and mouse before installing.
    5. If using a video card and the computer has integrated video use and remove the video card.
6 unplug the computer from the internet, if you have wireless disable.
    7. RAM (memory) - reduce the amount of RAM. 1 GB if 32-bit installation, 2 GB for 64-bit, then replace RAM if the upgrade was successful. If you added new RAM make sure it is also compatible.
    8. If you have several hard drives remove all except the one that you install Windows 7, and then replace it after Windows 7 is installed.
    9. If you have downloaded Windows 7 and it burned a DVD test burn again at the slowest speed possible. It is also possible the download may have errors, you can try to download it again.
    10. If you click 'Upgrade' to start the installation make sure that you take a supported upgrade path. You can't make a square by update: type A) XP to Windows 7, B) fuse change - 32 to 64-bit, C) change languages, D) decommissioning editions ex: Vista of the month last 7 Pro, or E) Vista Home Pro 7.

    11. check your RAM (memory) to find errors. Can take a long time, don't make that if nothing else has worked.
    (A) Insert the Windows 7 DVD and restart the computer.
    (B) start from the Windows 7 DVD.
    (C) select your language, and then click Next.
    (D) click on "repair your computer" then select the operating system to fix it.
    (E) click on the link of the Memory Diagnostics in the system recovery menu.
    (F) the computer will restart and your memory is checked for errors.

    12 turn off startup programs:
    (A) click Start, type MSCONFIG in the search box and press ENTER.
OK the authorization of user account control and password if necessary
If you are using XP: click Start, run, and type: MSCONFIG and click OK.
    (B) on the general tab, click Selective startup.
    (C) just below the selective startup, clear the checkbox "Load Startup items".
    (D) click the Services tab, check "Hide all Microsoft Services", and then click Disable all.
    (E) click OK, and then restart the computer.
    (F) try the upgrade again.

(NOTE: If the upgrade fails and you continue to use your rear security software, then also go back into MSCONFIG and under the general Tower XP/Vista tab, click "Normal startup", and then click OK to exit.)
