Yes.  In fact, if you are using disk cleanup (start > run > cleanmgr.exe > OK) it will delete all files in this directory that have been consulted at least 7 days ago.

You can go directly to this folder by typing the folder in the start menu > run box and click OK.

Nothing in the Windows or Program Files and files their subfolders should be left alone.  You won't earn a significant amount of disk space, and you may cause to yourself untold trouble sleeping herein.  Use instead the provided Windows Disk Cleanup.  You can get to it by clicking on start-> computer, then click on the C: drive and click Properties.  On the general tab, you will see disk cleanup.  Use it and you will be safe (and not sorry).  Everything you personally placed on the computer can always be removed of course as long as you do not try to remove installed manually the software (use the programs and features in the control panel for this).

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

  • Is it safe to delete the log file in/private/var/log/vnetlib?

    [Fusion 4.1.2 / Lion 10.7.4]

My vnetlib log file is greater than 22 MB in size and has > K 250 lines of entries dating back to September 2011. Is it safe to delete this log file? A planning at startup, remove the file and then do a restart immediately after to restart VMWare network components - and we hope to recreate a new empty file. I tried erasing the contents of the file via the Terminal but do not have sufficient permissions, even with sudo - guess it was because the VMWare networking processes running at the time.

    Thank you

If you do not experience network problems, then it is safe to delete.

I had no problem to remove in a Terminal (while VMware Fusion is running) by using the following command in (although I would recommend VMware Fusion of closing first and it doesn't have to be done in safe mode).

    sudo rm -f /var/log/vnetlib

Just curious, what the big problem is why you want to delete, 22 MB is not that big a deal.

  • Is it safe to delete the original score after successful cloning?

I have a Mac mini mid2010. I swapped his optical drive to an SSD. Then I cloned the operating system partition and everything works perfectly. My question is whether it is safe to delete the original "Macintosh HD" that I cloned, or if there is a way to keep its files being accessible if I don't get them mixed up.

    Thank you

Delete the old folder on the internal drive home page only. I should leave everything alone in case you need to boot from this drive. However, in general, it is safe to reformat the hard drive. But it depends on what you plan to do with it.

  • Is it safe to delete the partition OSXRESERVED? because it is still there after the installation of windows 10

I recently got a MacBook Pro 15 "2015 model retina running MacOSX 10.11.5 El Capitan.

My steps for installing Windows 8.1:

Create a. ISO file from DVD installation disc and save it. ISO on a USB Flash drive.

run bootcamp and run the. Location of the ISO on the usb flash drive.

    The SSD partition

and then it reboot and the windows installer is on and I finish installing Windows 8.1

then the program to install bootcamp drivers intervenes and installs the drivers

then it restarts and I upgraded towing 10 Windows later and update the bootcamp drivers

Then I start to Mac OS X, but the OSXRESERVED partition is still there.

And when I restart by pressing the option key, I see 1 Macintosh HD but 2 displayed Windows disks

Is it safe to delete the partition OSXRESERVED?  I read online that deleting it will cause 10 Windows do not to start over.

Or should I leave it alone?

Delete the contents of the prefetch folder will not help speed things up.  In fact, it will probably slow things down.  See http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-system/can-i-delete-the-data-in-the-prefetch-folder/c54a8e56-c8cf-451d-a88f-07f06a2f2d54
I guess temp5% is a typo and you really wanted to say %Temp%.  Percent signs indicate that it is an "environment variable" with the usual value of C:\Documents and Settings\, yourusername\Local Settings\Temp

The directory specified by %Temp% is, in fact, the directory cleaned by the cleaning of record under the name "temporary files".  Why do you think that disk cleanup is not delete files?  Note that disk cleanup does not remove the files in this directory which came in the last 7 days (this period may be changed by changing a registry value).

What disk cleanup does NOT, however, is to clean temporary files, files for the Internet browser cache and other files in places of profile-specific to the user of different profiles that you are currently using.  Disk Cleanup also does not delete the contents of C:\Windows\Temp (although it doesn't fill up with very much).  C:\Windows\Temp is the directory that appears when you type Temp in start > run (without the percent sign).  And, of course, disk cleanup will not empty the cache of the browser by non-Microsoft browsers, e.g. Firefox.

There are third-party applications that make a "deep" cleaning  Some of them clean files of all users without having to login to each profile separately.  Most understand the characteristics that you should not use.

Here are 2 - there are others, but I haven't used.

    ATF-Cleaner  (do not delete prefetch)
CCleaner (do not use the registry tool)

  • Cannot delete the user folder?

I can't delete the folder \\JONESPC\Users\Jack2 I tried to use regedit, but just ended up with a new \\JONESPC\Users\Jack2.JONESP folder

This problem occurred when I tried to change the username to my main account I could do successfully by using the mode without fail & regedit
But in the process, I created a new account I wanted to delete it later
I went through the normal process via Add or remove user accounts & then click on delete the user account & then remove all files
    But this folder Jack2 remains!

    Then try:

    1. Safe boot mode.
    2. Log in as Jack.
    3. Property to enter the profile folders that bothers you - see here.
    4. Rename the folders unwanted profile by adding the suffix .junk.

How can I permamnetly delete the user account in Windows xp?

    1. 1

Go to the control panel. There are several ways to do this, but the most common is to go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Control Panel" on the right side. Follow whatever it is more convenient for you.

    2. 2

Click on "user accounts" in the window that appears. Or, you see the standard view (with lines of icons) or the display of the categories (which is explicit). Both have a shortcut to the user accounts Control Panel.

    3. 3

If a control panel is not yet made, click the 'user accounts' Panel at the bottom of the window. If so, you can skip this step.

    4. 4

Click the link you want to get rid of any user account.

    5. 5

The next window will have a list of actions you can do for the user account, one of which will be "remove account". It is the action that you'll want to click on.

    6. 6

The last window that you will see will ask you if you want to keep the soon-to-be-used user represents the files in a folder on your desktop. It's your choice here.

      • If you have already backed up all important data on this user account, you can safely click on 'delete files '.
      • If you do not, you must click "keep files".
